They also criticised the report of European  Union Election Observer Mission which alleged a lack of transparency in the guidelines of election.

The parties under the aegis of Joint Forum of 60 Presidential Candidates and National Chairmen, at a press conference addressed by Alhaji Mohammed Shittu, said the Independent National Electoral Commission did creditably well.

BENITEZ TO LEAVE NEWSCATLE AS CONTRACT TALKS FAIL

0

Rafael Benitez will leave Newcastle United after three years as manager when his contract expires next week, the Premier League club confirmed on Monday.

“It is with disappointment that we announce manager Rafael Benitez will leave Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract on 30th June 2019,” Newcastle said in a statement.

Despite failing to keep Newcastle in the top flight shortly after taking over, Benitez earned hero status on Tyneside as he led Newcastle back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and then stabilised the club by finishing 10th and 13th in the last two seasons.

However, the Spaniard did not hide his displeasure at the lack of backing he was afforded by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and was believed to be seeking assurances over the budget he would have to work with before committing his future to the club.

“We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time, however, it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives,” continued Newcastle’s statement.

“We would like to thank Rafa and his coaching team for their efforts over the last three years and their significant contribution to what has been collectively achieved.”

Benitez, who won the Champions League when in charge of Liverpool in 2005, has been reportedly offered a contract worth £12 million-a-year at Chinese club Dalian Yifang.

A kidnap and armed robbery kingpin, identified as Zulu Ogwumike, aka Black Bush, was also killed during a shootout in a separate operation by the personnel of the command attached to the Rumuji Police Station.

The corps members and two other victims were said to be travelling from Lagos to Port Harcourt when the vehicle they were travelling in was stopped and the six of them were seized and taken into a forest in Evekwu, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The vicitms were said to have been abducted last week and had been in captivity for some days before they were eventually rescued.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said in a statement that the operation that led to the rescue of the corps members was led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Rumuji Police Station, Ademola Adebayo.

Omoni explained that the victims were rescued unhurt and had since been debriefed and ready to be reunited with their families.

He said in a statement, “Today, June 23, 2019, around 7.30am, in our sustained and unrelenting efforts in tackling criminality on the East-West Road, operatives of the Rumuji Police Station, in a sting operation led by the DPO, CSP Ademola Adebayo, stormed a forest at Evekwu in the Emohua Local Government Area, where six kidnap victims were rescued.

“The victims, including four youth corps members, are those abducted last week in a commercial bus travelling from Lagos to Port Harcourt. They were, however, rescued unhurt and have been debriefed. Their families have been contacted for necessary handover.

“The victims are Ogechi Onyema, Chioma Nnaji, Florence Ogeh, Abel Akinduro, Franklin Ayama and Solomon Akinpelu, (two males and four females).

Tribunal dismisses Atiku, PDP’s request to have access to INEC’s server

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Monday dismissed an application by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, requesting permission to have access to the central server said to have been used by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the February 23 poll.

The Justice Mohammed Garba-led bench of five judges, in a unanimous ruling, upheld the separation objections by the three respondents to the petitioners’ application.

The three respondents are INEC, Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress.

Dismissing the application, the tribunal held that granting it would amount to pre-judging the main issue meant for trial during the substantive hearing of the petition.

Justice Garba, who delivered the lead ruling of the tribunal, held that INEC having denied the existence of the said server and insisted that results of the election were not electronically transmitted into any server as alleged by the petitioners, granting the application would amount to deciding the central issue in the petition at the interlocutory stage.

“This will be unpalatable,” Justice Garba held.

He added that granting the application would imply that the court had “indeed recognised and found out that there is a central server into which results of the held on February 23, 2019 were electronically transmitted by the 1st respondent (INEC)”.
