FIRS boss lauds Nigerian Army for providing enabling environment for economic growth

The Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS has commended the leadership and personnel of the Nigerian Army for their tireless efforts in securing the nation thereby providing an enabling environment for stable and sound economic activities to strive in Nigeria.

Mr Fowler gave the commendation on Wednesday when he paid Courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

He also expressed the desire of the FIRS to partner with the NA training institutions to help in the area of corporate social responsibility intervention.

Lt Gen TY Buratai in his remarks expressed the readiness of the Nigerian Army to collaborate with the FIRS. He described Mr Fowler as an “administrator with a midas touch” having substantially improved the revenue of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He added that with increased revenue accruing to the various sectors of the Nigerian economy, governance will be easy and the state would be able to deliver the required services to Nigerians thereby improving security and overall living standards of the citizens of the country.

NYSC grieves over loss of Corps Member killed by Shi’ites

The Management, staff and Corps members of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme NYSC have expressed grief over the death of Owolabi Precious Ayo (FC/18C/5226) who was killed by the Iranian backed terror group, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria IMN.

According to reports, Owolabi Precious Ayo, a Corps member who was serving with Channels Television lost his life after sustaining wounds from gun bullet that hit him, while covering the protest staged by the Shi’ite movement, around Federal Secretariat, Central Business District, Abuja on Monday.

The Director General of NYSC Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim in his usual disposition of placing welfare and security of Corps members above every other thing,  on Monday evening rushed to National Hospital Abuja immediately on getting information from NYSC Coordinator of Federal Capital Territory Coordinator, Hajiya Walida Isa Saddique concerning the Corps member’s ill fate.

TeleVision Nigerian learnt that the Director General was at the hospital with the aim of seeing the possibility of reviving the Corps member, and he remained there until around 12:00 midnight, when doctors informed him that all hope was lost.

The humane Brigadier General still returned to the hospital at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday in company of some directors, other officers and Corps members, where they paid their last respect to the young patriot, who paid the supreme sacrifice for the fatherland, before his body was taken to his family Zaria in Kaduna state.

Before leaving the medical facility, the Director General also checked on Corps member Suleiman of Leadership newspaper, who is recuperating from the gun wounds he sustained from the same protest. The Director General assured him that NYSC is taking full responsibility for his treatment.

He commended the management and staff of the hospital under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. JAF Momoh for taking good care of Corps and other patients.

NIPR commends Nigerian Army over war on insurgency, warns against illegal practice

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has commend the Nigerian Army for their resilience and determination in securing the territorial intergrity of Nigeria from criminal elements.

The National President Mallam Muktar Zubairu Surayo gave the commendation today when he led the National Council on a courtesy call to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai at the Army Headquarters.

He also commended the Nigerian Army for adherence to relevant laws guiding the practice of Public Relations adding that practioners without licence are criminal liable as enshrined by the act establishing the regulatory body.

“Nigerian Army has been adhering to rules guiding Public Relations practice in appointing their Public Relations Officers. This act by the Army authority deserves commendation and should serve as a reference point to other institutions”, he said.

According to him, the visit is part of advocacy campaign to sensitise institutions and organisations on the need to hire qualified and licence practioners. “It is criminal to practice PR without licence ” he said.

Mallam Zubairu while extolling the leadership quality of COAS frowns at high level of insecurity in Nigeria which he attributed to lack of understanding between various region that made up the country. He then urged Nigerians to always dialogue issues rather than using violence.”

The National president also used the opportunity to invite the COAS on the forthcoming Annual Conference of the NIPR slated latter in the year. He also seek for partnership with the Nigerian Army to organise a workshop on strategic planning and study on public Relations practice .

Gen Buratai in his response thanked the NIPR Executives for the visit which he said is timely.

He described Public Relations practice as a link between institutions and its public adding that it brings understanding and harmony among people.

He said the visit is a turning point for the Nigerian Army Public Relations Practitioners.
He called on the Institution to partner with the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Informations (NASPRI) to ensure a higher cradle of learning.

Among the members of the National Executive entourage is one time Director General, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Prof Tony Iredia and the former Director Army Public Relations, Maj Gen Chris Olukolade (Rtd) among others.

BREAKING: FASHOLA, AKUME, KEYAMO, 40 OTHERS MAKE MINISTERIAL LIST

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally sent his list of ministerial nominees to the Senate.

This was made known by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who read out the president’s letter at plenary on Tuesday.

The president appointed 43 ministers.

Among the appointees are former Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, senior lawyer Festus Keyamo, ex-Benue governor George Akume and 40 other nominees.

The president also retained Babatunde Fashola, Chris Ngige and a few other returnee ministers.

The appointments were made across the six geopolitical zones.

The Senate President noted that screening of the ministerial nominee will commence on Wednesday and “legislative activities will take the back stage.”

Mr Lawan had hinted of the Senate receiving the ministerial nominees list last week.

President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in for a second term on May 29 after winning re-election in February.

The constitution of his cabinet comes almost two months after his swearing-in.

CBN LICENSE THREE NEW BANKS

According to an updated list made available on the apex bank’s website, the number of banks has increased to 23 from 21.

The CBN also issued a licence to a non-interest bank, increasing the number to two.

The new deposit money banks are Titan Trust Bank Limited and Globus Bank Limited.

TAJ Bank Limited also joins Jaiz Bank as a non-interest bank.
