Army-Police clash: Buhari directs Defence Headquarters to commence investigation

0

The Defence Headquarters has been directed to set up a special panel to investigate the clash between the Army and Police in Ibi, Taraba State, where some Policemen lost their lives.

Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said this while speaking to State House Correspondents, and also briefing them on the outcome of Thursday’s National Security Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buahri.

He said: “The Council decided that a committee will be set up under the Defence Headquarters, to critically investigate the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident in Ibi, Taraba State.”

The Chief of Air Staff said after reviewing the security situation in the country, it was satisfied with the progress so far recorded.
“The Council evaluated the current strategy of managing internal security operations all over the country and we are satisfied with the current efforts, we are making substantial progress in all the areas of conflict,” he said.

Air Marshal Sadique, who assured citizens of their safety, said technology would continue to play a very critical role in addressing security challenges in the country.

“All the services are using one form of technology or the other in order to ensure that our country is secured so technology will continue to play a role and we are also looking at other areas of technology that are not currently in use, to ensure that we put together all that is required to ensure security of Nigeria and Nigerian,” he pledged.

Protesters vow to commence 40 days civil disobedience over Amnesty International’s refusal to leave Nigeria

0

The Coalition for Civil Rights and Good Governance has threatened to embark on “40 days civil disobedience” over the refusal of Amnesty International to leave the shores of Nigeria.

The group stated this on the 7th day of its occupy Amnesty International office, Abuja over its alleged connivance with some agents of destabilization to cause unrest in Nigeria.

CCRGG vowed not to give up until the NGO leaves Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, Princes Ajibola, President of the group, averred that “If we are pushed to begin the 40 days occupation, our member will make a daily advance of one metre upon the premises of Amnesty International until we enter its reception, workstations, conference room and offices to bodily throw out its staffers and escort them to the airport.”

He statement below.

Seven days ago, we took the bold step of standing up for our country by openly confronting the monster that threatens its future in the form of an international non-governmental organization called Amnesty International. We consistently occupied the Amnesty International for the seven-day period irrespective of the intense blackmail and propaganda directed at us by the NGO.

In the course of the seven days, over two million protestors took part in the anti-Amnesty International protests in Lagos and more than one million participated in Abuja under rain, sun and unwarranted brutality from Amnesty International.

The occupation has been illuminating for us because it surfaced a lot of facts and useful information that were hitherto in the realm of conjecture.

For one, we have been able to establish that the conspiracy against the existence of Nigeria is more extensive and elaborate than previously thought. While Amnesty International is the arrowhead of the foreign component of this evil agenda, it has a large network of other NGOs, CSOs and even quasi-business entities that are running errands for it – these are the groups that jointly issued statements to condemn the occupation of Amnesty International’s office. Individuals that are on its payroll equally exposed themselves as such by condemning our action.

The extent of Amnesty International’s infiltration of Nigeria is alarming to a point where it even has the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on a leash like a dog. It launched NHRC like an attack dog against this protest in an act of desperation forgetting that it has exposed the lapses at the Commission in terms of playing its own role of monitoring issues of human rights in Nigeria. We now understand that NHRC deliberately abandoned its duties to create a vacuum for Amnesty International to exploit. Our protest exposed this unholy alliance, which forced NHRC to tediously attempt to disparage our efforts.

Not to be left out are members of the opposition. The people that contracted Amnesty International to run local side shows for them in the course of implementing its internationally hatched destabilization agenda. They owned and tele-guide the proscribed organizations like IMN and IPOB as well as anarchist movements like RevolutionNow and DaysofRage, which have been deployed to cause widespread violence. Even as we occupied its offices, the NGO continued to defend the rights of these groups to destroy Nigeria without being challenged or prevented from doing so. It defended their incitement and call to violence as “freedom of speech”.

For those that ever doubted that Amnesty International is interested in plunging into war, its sponsorship of the fake revolution by the proscribed and anarchist movements against the democratically elected Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari is a final proof that should jolt all patriotic citizens into action. We should be alarmed that upon being found out as a subversive organization, instead of giving up its destabilization agenda, Amnesty International has rather intensified its attack on the Nigerian state while urging that inciting and hate speech should be allowed as “freedom of expression”.

This strategy had served the NGO in other countries that are today in disarray and it is to our collective peril to allow it replicate same successfully in Nigeria.
It is instructive that Amnesty International and its allies have condemned our occupation of its offices while decrying our call for more Nigerians to join the protests against its subversive activities while defending the rights of anarchist movements to do exactly the same thing and even worse against the Nigerian state and its government.

The implication is that the NGO is not willing to accept the treatment it is encouraging its clients to give the federal government. It is clear that this organization knows that the people it is supporting are doing the wrong thing but it is defending them simply because it wants to get at the government and weaken it.

It was discovered that the protests being backed by Amnesty International are a fallback position after its support for Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) did not translate into an ability to penetrate metropolitan cities and carry out attacks against places of interests. An option to use violent protests by IMN and IPOB similarly failed.

But we have also learnt that this NGO has no desire of giving up on its destabilization agenda as it will always plot new schemes to achieve its goals whenever its strategy is defeated.
This is why we have resolved that Amnesty International must leave Nigeria now. We stood up, as a coalition of several groups, to challenge its subversive activities in the last seven days. We expect that this organization will use the benefit of the end of the seven days occupation to slink away at night because criminals are accustomed to making their getaway under the cover of darkness.

But where we discover that the NGO continues to violate the space of Nigeria by remaining in the country after these seven days of occupation, we want to categorically warn that the various groups may be forced to return on Monday, this time for a round 40 of days of occupation.

If we are pushed to begin the 40 days occupation, our member will make a daily advance of one metre upon the premises of Amnesty International until we enter its reception, workstations, conference room and offices to bodily throw out its staffers and escort them to the airport. The 40 days will witness impassioned Nigerians overrunning this Office with their properties to permanently occupy the place until the needful is done.

It is reassuring that more Nigerians have indicate interest to join the occupation that will expel the monster that is threatening Nigeria from the jurisdiction of the country. We salute the patriotism of these people that have indicated commitment to act even before they are called upon just as we salute all Nigerians that have come out in solidarity with this protest. We shall keep everyone up to date on the status of the protest and when the 40 days of occupation will begin.

Finally, we want to put Amnesty International, its allies and supporters on notice that there will be no giving up until it shuts down its operations and leave Nigeria. The worst that can happen is for it to unleash law enforcement agents of thugs on us and we are prepared.

Flood waters dislodge 500 residents in Sierra Leone

0

Local authorities said on Wednesday that over 500 residents have been dislodged in Sierra Leone due to a flood caused by torrential rain.

The flooding swept over 60 houses in Tombo, a fishing town in the west of the country, with some fishing boats sunk and rendering residents homeless.

The dislodged victims are currently housed in schools, community centers and other makeshift facilities.

Local authorities are calling on donor partners to come in and help salvage the situation of the victims.

Some of the affected residents said that they were unable to take out their property, which were all destroyed by the flood.

Trump visits mass shooting victims; as protesters shout ‘Do something!’

U.S. President Donald Trump met victims and first responders from last weekend’s deadly shootings in Texas and Ohio on Wednesday, as chanting protesters accused him of inflaming tensions with anti-immigrant and racially charged rhetoric.

Trump visited hospitals where victims were treated in El Paso, Texas, on the border with Mexico, and in Dayton, Ohio, after massacres 13 hours apart that shocked the country and reopened a national debate on gun safety.

In both cities, crowds of protesters gathered to confront Trump and condemn his visit. Some held signs reading “Trump is racist,” “Love over hate” and “Send him back!”

Chanting crowds in Dayton urged Trump: “Do something!”

The president and first lady Melania Trump avoided the press on both hospital visits and stayed out of public view.

They visited survivors in their hospital rooms at the University Medical Center in El Paso and Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, and thanked the medical staff and first responders, White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said.

“It was a warm and wonderful visit,” Trump said on Twitter after leaving Dayton. “Tremendous enthusiasm & even Love.”

Trump also visited law enforcement personnel at an emergency operations center in El Paso to thank them for their response on Saturday, when a man killed 22 people at a Walmart store, apparently after posting an anti-immigrant manifesto online.

BREAKING: DSS obtains injunction to detain Sowore for 45 days

The Abuja division of a Federal High Court has granted the Department of State Service (DSS) an application to detain the convener of #RevolutionNow Protest, Omoyele Sowore in their custody.

The vacation judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said he will grant the application only for a period of 45 days.

The Judge added that the 45 days will start to count from today.

Stop running errands for Amnesty International to destabilize Nigeria – CSO warns Ojukwu, NHRC

Although the DSS had asked for 90 days in line with Section 27 Sub -Section 1 of the Terrorism Act Justice Taiwo held that the “MAY” in that section is a directory which gives the court discretion to decide as to the number of days to give the applicants and having looked at all the prayers and evidence attached, he is of the view to grant 45 days for the applicants to carry out their investigation.

He said, however, the DSS is at liberty to return to court via an application to ask for more days.

The DSS had earlier on Tuesday approached the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, seeking leave to detain Sowore, for 90 days to enable it to carry out further investigation.

Sowore, who is the publisher of Sahara Reporters and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 elections was arrested in the early hours of Saturday by operatives of the DSS in a hotel in Lagos.

The state agency said Sowore was arrested on account of the  #RevolutionNow protest which he had spearheaded.

Police killings: Army opens inquiry, calls for proper coordination of operations

0

Following the unfortunate incident that occurred involving troops of 93 Battalion Nigerian Army Takum where some officers of the Nigerian Police lost their lives, the Nigerian Army has called for proper coordination of covert operations wherever they are to take place.

According to a statement made available to TeleVision Nigerian, troops of 93 Battalion Nigerian Army Takum pursued and exchanged fire with some suspected Kidnappers who indeed turned out to be an Intelligence Response Team from the Police Force Headquarters on a covert assignment from Abuja resulting in the death and injury of some members of the Team on the 6th of August 2019.

The said Nigerian Army troops, while responding to a distressed call to rescue a kidnapped victim exchanged fire with the suspected kidnappers along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba State.

The suspected kidnappers numbering about ten and driving in a white bus with Reg No LAGOS MUS 564 EU refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive check points. The flagrant refusal of the suspected kidnappers to stop at the three checkpoints prompted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects by the troops. It was in this process that the suspected kidnappers who were obviously armed opened fire at the troops sporadically thus prompting them to return fire.

In the resultant fire fight, four suspects were shot and died on the spot while four others sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and two others reportedly missing. It was only after this avoidable outcome that one of the wounded suspects disclosed the fact that they were indeed Policemen dispatched from Nigerian Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja for a covert assignment.

However, following inquiries from a Police Station officer who was asked by the commander of the Army troops whether he was aware of any Nigerian Police team being dispatched to operate in the LGA, the Divisional Police Officer of Ibi Police Division responded that he was not informed about any operation by the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters thus lending credence to the distressed call from members of the community that the suspects who turned out to be Policemen on a covert mission were rather suspected kidnappers.

The incident the Army said could have been avoided through proper coordination and liaison as the Nigerian Police Force are partners in the fight against crimes such as kidnapping amongst myriads of other internal security threats confronting our nation of which the Nigerian Police is the lead Agency.

Consequently, the Army Headquarters and the Force Headquarters of the Nigerian Police have agreed to constitute a Joint lnvestigation Panel to be headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Mike Ogbizi, to jointly investigate and report on the true circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

The Army called on the public to desist from making flagrant statement on the matter until the Joint Investigation Panel concludes and submits its report, hence it will be premature to officially conclude and speak on the real circumstances that caused this unfortunate but very avoidable unfortunate incident.

Stop running errands for Amnesty International to destabilize Nigeria – CSO warns Ojukwu, NHRC

0

The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC) has condemned the stand of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the call by some civil society organizations for the expulsion of Amnesty International from Nigeria.

Recall that some civil society organizations have been occupying the premises of Amnesty International to demand that the international human rights NGO been expelled from the country.

The protesters said the call for the organization to leave Nigeria was not arbitrary as it arose out of the subversive activities that Amnesty International continues to engage in.

According to them, the alleged subversive activities are aimed at destabilizing Nigeria to satisfy the objectives of the NGOs clients locally and internationally.
However, the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Anthony Ojukwu, through a statement by the Director (Corporate Affairs and External Linkages), Lambert Oparah claimed “nobody or institution has the right to oust any lawful organisation from exercising its freedom of association and expression in Nigeria without an order of a court of competent jurisdiction.”

Angered by Ojokwu’s comment, SHAC wondered why NHRC would be running errands for the notorious Amnesty International, whose aim is to destabilize the nation.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, Ibrahim Abubakar , the Executive Secretary of SHAC said NHRC is deliberately failing in its statutory responsibilities to create room for Amnesty International, in order for it to have the locus to issue its frivolous reports on the state of human rights in Nigeria.

The group, therefore, called on the Federal Government to investigate the NHRC and its leadership with a view to establishing the extent of its complicity in the destabilization agenda that Amnesty International is running in Nigeria
His statement below.

We realize that Amnesty International has been condemning the occupation of its offices by these CSOs that are resolute on saving Nigeria from its grip. It has been blowing hot about how it would not be intimidated while also doing what it knows how to do best: lying that those protesting against its criminal activities in Nigeria are pro-government or are being sponsored to decry the crimes it is committing in Nigeria. Several ineffective groups have been conscripted to join Amnesty International’s lying train.

The follow-follow syndrome of some compromised NGOs that have joined Amnesty International in echoing its lies appears understandable to some extent. Some of them are sub-contractors to Amnesty International in delivering projects and assignments aimed at destabilizing Nigeria – some of the NGO’s staffers actually owned such groups. Others are participating in helping it to destabilize Nigeria because of the money they are getting from the same circuit of sponsors and financiers for which Amnesty International is running errands. Some others are doing what they do out of ignorance – these are those that have the ridiculous belief that anything foreign or international is naturally superior or better than the indigenous content.

The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC) has been at a loss as to where it should place the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which has abandoned its core mandates to run errand for Amnesty International. We understand that the Executive Secretary of NHRC, Anthony Ojukwu, through a statement he caused the Director (Corporate Affairs and External Linkages), Lambert Oparah to issue, was saying “nobody or institution has the right to oust any lawful organisation from exercising its freedom of association and expression in Nigeria without an order of a court of competent jurisdiction.”

This position, be it Ojukwu’s personal view or NHRC’s official position, it’s ridiculous to the extent that it should cause the commission to be overhauled in order to redirect its focus to its thematic areas as advertised on its own website. The behavior of NHRC and its leadership also calls for certain past developments to be reassessed in retrospect since it has heightened the possibility that the Commission is in bed with Amnesty International in the plot to destabilize Nigeria. We shall mention a few instances that now look too suspicious to be mere coincidences.

The two recently proscribed terrorist organizations, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) always use NHRC office for their
protests, which means that people in that Commission encourage them and such decision could have only come from the leadership. Even more curious is how the NHRC was always spared each time IMN took its violent protests to the Commission’s premises while neighboring government offices get vandalized.
It is of concern that NHRC has failed in the few instances it bothered to investigate issues around these groups (IMN and IPOB) especially when it has to do with the human rights abuses, they inflict on other Nigerians. This is even when the accusations raised against these groups touch on “Freedom of Religion & Belief” and “Torture, Extra-Judicial, Summary & Arbitrary Executions,” which are thematic focus for the Commission.
The Commission’s Executive Secretary, Anthony Ojukwu, is in the same circle with the decision makers in Amnesty International. These are the people that have instructed Ojukwu to issue the statement in support of their organization, which raises the question of what other instructions the leadership of NHRC has received from and executed on behalf of the foreign NGO.

NHRC is deliberately failing in its statutory responsibilities to create room for Amnesty International, in order for it to have the locus to issue its frivolous reports on the state of human rights in Nigeria. If the Commission tasked with monitoring human rights issues in Nigeria has decided to outsource its responsibility to a foreign entity, which has an agenda against the interest of Nigeria. It is disheartening that the NHRC leadership continues to defend Amnesty International even when it has full knowledge of the destabilization agenda being implemented against Nigeria.
Gentlemen of the press, you can now appreciate from the above that NHRC is a failed institution where rights abuses start and stop. It is an organization in need of urgent help that the Federal Government must urgently provide. It appears that it is now more beholden to Amnesty International and its affiliated donor agencies.

We like the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), its Executive Secretary – Anthony Ojukwu and their NGO client that the occupation of Amnesty International’s offices will continue and possibly exceed the promised advertised 7-days until it leaves Nigeria. Perhaps the only saving grace would be an undertaken from the group to discontinue all aspects of its subversive activities in Nigeria. The combined threats from NHRC, the NGO and its partners would do nothing to stop patriotic Nigerians from defending their country.

The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC) urges the Federal Government to investigate the NHRC and its leadership with a view to establishing the extent of its complicity in the destabilization agenda that Amnesty International is running in Nigeria. Any official of the Commission found to have aided this crime against Nigeria should be properly sanctioned and made to face the law.

Revealed: How Sowore Sought Refuge With DSS

0

Investigations by the TheNigerian has revealed that leader of the #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, intentionally baited the Department of State Services (DSS) in order to be taken into custody both as a safety measure and a face saving move.

If confirmed, it will imply that Sowore, who is the publisher of Sahara Reporters, a news blog, sought refuge with the DSS as an alternative to being arrested in the actual course of the protest or being harassed to refund money by those that financed the protests from abroad.

The secret police, DSS, arrested Sowore on Saturday on allegations that he was calling for a revolution to forcefully overthrow a democratically elected government. He went on to say that the secret police will be history by Tuesday when the protests tagged “Days of Rage” have bundled the elected government out office. He could be tried for treasonable felony.

While Sowore’s arrest has triggered criticism from those sympathetic with his cause, a source close to him has revealed that he deliberately antagonised authorities so that he can save face, evade sponsors and also escape the danger of being attacked by his supporters if he called off the protest.

The source who craved anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue revealed that “Yele (Sowore) had seen these protests as face saving given the disappointing choice Nigerians made during the election by rejecting him. But it soon became clear that the protests were going to be more disappointing than the election result because even the 33,000 people that voted for him in the election won’t turn up to protest.
“There was no way to back out without losing face. Those that bankrolled the protests will have questions. It was becoming dangerous because he could be attacked,” he explained.

According to him, Sowore struck on the idea to get taken into custody and possibly arraigned knowing that such development will raise his profile as an activist while diverting attention from the failure of the protests while his absence will be justified by the arrest.

The protests largely failed on Monday as the police prevented those that have gathered from carrying out their threat of raging through the streets in Lagos. The police had said it is illegal to use a revolution to overthrow a democratic government. Inclement weather put paid to the prospect of protests in Abuja as a prolonged downpour made it impractical to gather on the streets.

Sowore remained in custody on Monday and it is unclear when he would be formally charged or arraigned in court for the treasonable felony the DSS has accused him of.

Other members of his inner cycle have not commented on whether he deliberately sought refuge with the secret police and thereby sabotaging the protests.

Sowore has a history of run-in with law enforcement agencies having been held recently on allegations of threat to life after an open brawl with another blogger over financial largess from political patrons.

El-Zakzakky: DSS set to comply with court order

0

Following the court order granting a medical leave to the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria IMN, Ibraheem El-Zakzakky, the Department of State Services DSS has indicated that it is ready comply.

In a statement made available to Television Nigerian, spokesman of the Service Peter Afunanya confirmed that it received the order granting El-Zakzakky leave to travel to India for medical treatment.

He said the Service is liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance.
”Conformity with the order is in line with the Service’s avowed commitment to the Rule of Law inherent in a democracy.” He said
