Tinubu’s Aide: Kwankwaso Has Lost Kano Grip, Now Eyeing APC for Survival

The political significance of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State politics has been disregarded by Yusuf Ata, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
In order to stay relevant, Ata claims Kwankwaso is attempting to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) since he is no longer a desirable politician.
When the Minister visited APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje at the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday in Abuja, it was claimed that he made this statement as a courtesy call.

Kwankwaso’s authority in Kano has diminished considerably, he said, and the red caps that stand for his “Kwankwasiyya” movement have all abandoned him.

“Kwankwaso has ceased operations in Kano. The only reason he is wanting to join the APC is to survive. Everybody has their grassroots records, including the president. He is no longer a desirable alternative, Ata declared.

Adding that the APC does not require Kwankwaso’s influence to win Kano’s 2027 presidential election for Bola Tinubu, he cautioned that the former governor’s return would cause internal strife inside the party.

Ata responded to rumors that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would follow Kwankwaso to any political event by saying he would not personally welcome the former governor back into the APC until Ganduje had instructed him to do so.

I was a member of the House of Assembly during Kwankwaso’s tenure as governor in 1999. He is someone I know well. He stated, “We have no deal unless our father [Ganduje] decides to accommodate him.”

During the visit, Ganduje spoke more tactfully, stating that Kwankwaso would be welcomed if he chose to join the APC.

He did concur with Ata, though, that Tinubu may win Kano in 2027 without Kwankwaso’s help.

Kwankwaso, according to the APC leader, is “a stranded politician.”

The American President proclaimed November 11 and May 8 as national holidays remembering the end of World War I and World War II, respectively and the country’s successes during the wars.

He, however, underlined that the holidays would not involve time off work for federal employees.

“The only country that doesn’t celebrate the World War I and World War II is the U.S.,” asserted the historian. While underlining that the announcement would not require employees to take time off work.

“We will not be closing the country for these two very important Holidays, November 11 and May 8,” a spokesperson stated.

The White House has yet to publish an official proclamation or provide details on how the holidays would be recognized at the governmental level, and it remains to be seen what legislative action will be taken to support the President’s statement.

Senate Queries NNPC, Other Bodies Over Federal Character Infractions

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Nigerian Senate will begin investigation hearings into the alleged misuse and poor application of the federal character concept by important government institutions. This will be a fresh attempt to promote equity in hiring the public and allocating infrastructure.

Under the direction of Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh (Rivers East), the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs is conducting the hearings, which will be held in the Equal Opportunities Hearing Room 211 in the Senate Building at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The Senate unanimously approved a motion introduced by Senator Osita Ngwu (Enugu West) in March, which prompted this action. The motion, which was headed Urgent Need to Address Systemic Abuse and Ineffective Implementation of the Federal Character Principle, denounced what it said was widespread disregard for the 1999 Constitution’s (as modified) Sections 14(3) and 14(4).

A “flagrant disregard” for the federal character standards, which are meant to guarantee fair representation of all regions and groups in national appointments and infrastructure projects, has been alleged against a number of federal agencies.

On Tuesday, May 6, Senator Onyesoh confirmed in a statement that all designated Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) had received formal invitations and requests for documentation. The Committee plans to present its findings to the Senate in three months, and the hearings are anticipated to take several weeks.

VeryDarkMan (VDM), a social media activist, has been granted administrative bail, according to confirmation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Over the weekend, VDM was taken into custody at an Abuja GTBank branch. He had allegedly gone to the bank to contest a dubious loan deduction from his mother’s account, a loan for which she had never submitted an application.

According to reports, security guards physically abused him and blindfolded him while making the arrest.

His arrest caused a great deal of worry, with many claiming that prominent people influenced the EFCC’s decision to detain him as payback for his vocal social media presence.

According to a statement released by the EFCC on Tuesday, Otse was arrested in relation to “severe allegations of financial malfeasance.” The agency clarified that they were able to hold him for longer than the first 24 hours allowed by law since they had received multiple petitions and had since secured a lawful remand order.

The EFCC acknowledged that he has been offered administrative bail and will be released after fulfilling the requirements, even though he is still being held.

Like any other suspect under investigation, Otse may be lawfully detained by the EFCC. In this regard, the proper Remand Order was acquired. Administrative bail has been offered to him, and he will be released once he complies with all requirements.

Nevertheless, it should stop making assumptions about why it is performing its duty. The EFCC should be able to carry out its duties without fear or favor. Charges will be brought as soon as investigations are complete,” the statement said.

Additionally, the agency clarified that Otse’s arrest was the result of his failure to reply to many official invitations given to him using his known addresses and contact channels.

The EFCC emphasized that the allegations pertain to significant financial malfeasance, which is within its purview as part of its primary objective to combat financial and economic crimes.

Pressure for his release has increased since the arrest, both domestically and internationally.

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has declared the beginning of a three-day warning strike on Tuesday, May 6.
The doctors made the decision following their emergency congress meeting on Monday at Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja.
Following the meeting, Dr. George Ebong, president of FCT ARD, stated that the strike was required as a result of the FCT Civil Service Commission’s arbitrary dismissal of 127 health workers last Friday.

He described the dismissal as harsh and illegal, requesting their immediate reinstatement and restoration of their April earnings.

He also demanded that Emeka Ezeh, the chairman of the FCT-CSC, step down immediately.

Ebong claimed that if their demands were not granted by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the FCT Administration within three days, they will go on indefinite strike and close the nation’s capital hospitals.

“We are going on a three-day warning strike since the majority of our members were removed from duty on Friday without due process. They were branded as ghost workers, ex-employees, and absconders, despite the fact that these colleagues are still working in the system today.

“We are furious that the FCTA service commission will make such an inhumane judgment without consulting the health management board, permanent secretary of health, association of resident doctors, or Medical & Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, MDCAN. Nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory scientists are also affected, in addition to doctors.

“The hospitals’ managing directors are unaware. In reality, three MDs are impacted.

“127 health personnel are impacted. If these are ghost workers, how do these hospitals run? The hospitals would have crumbled. What is the staffing capacity of FCT hospitals?

“The impacted health workers’ salaries were terminated without prior notice. The last month’s salary. This is a clear case of insensitivity and injustice to healthcare personnel.

“We want prompt salary payments for all affected health professionals.

“A letter of apology to the affected health-care personnel.

“It is a three-day warning starting from tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 8 am, and if within the space of three days (which is Friday, May 9, 2025), our demands are not met, we will go on an indefinite strike after an appraisal,” said the worker.

“To alleviate the suffering and save Nigeria from her current hazardous state, people like Amaechi must be present on the scene. Amaechi would do whatever to ensure Nigeria’s success.

If the USA lives up to her claims and makes the purported file on Mr. President public, Tinubu might not be able to survive the election he intends to rig. 2027 will be full of surprises.

Tinubu: Embittered Souls Must Not Endanger The Country’s Rotational Principle – OPC Sends Warning To El-Rufai, Others

The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has accused Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, and other northern political elites of plotting to end President Bola Tinubu’s term.
The group expressed support for Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 and cautioned against self-appointed “leaders of the North” from undermining the zoning principle and removing the President prematurely.
In a statement issued on Monday, the group’s General Secretary, Bunmi Fasehun, accused Rufai and other northern political figures of attempting to shorten the North-South unwritten power rotation agreement.

“Those advocating for Asiwaju’s removal should consider the rotational system, which has ensured inclusive and egalitarian government since 1999. “That principle must not be jeopardized for the selfish interests of political adventurers like Hameed Baba-Ahmed and Nasir El-Rufai,” Fasehun stated.
Fasehun emphasized that the OPC’s nearly 10 million members and supporters will not keep silent while such political moves jeopardize national unity.

“No one can erase Asiwaju’s historic role in returning the presidency to the North in 2015 by acting against a sitting President from the South. For the first time in Nigerian history, an opposition party won the presidential election.

“It was a mission impossible that God made achievable through Tinubu’s strategy, contacts, and resources from the primaries to the general elections in 2015 and 2019.

“Evidently, Tinubu mobilised his South-West to vote massively for Buhari in both elections,” claimed the party’s statement.

Fasehun also labeled Tinubu as a product of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, comparing him to the late South African icon Nelson Mandela.

This was revealed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, during the opening of the First Legislative Conference and Expo on Renewable Energy in Lagos.

The Speaker emphasized Nigeria’s active involvement in the Mission 300 Initiative, a partnership with the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The initiative aims to tackle the continent’s electricity deficit, showcasing Nigeria’s leadership in advancing access to clean and affordable energy across Africa.

Abbas also commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a $1 billion financing package for the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in December 2024. The funding will support the expansion of solar energy, with plans to deploy 124 mini-grids and 25,000 solar home systems, benefiting over 200,000 Nigerians in underserved areas.

At the conference, Abbas reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to a clean energy transition, citing key legislative reforms. The 10th House of Representatives recently established a Standing Committee on Renewable Energy to coordinate national efforts to improve access to clean power. He also highlighted the passage of tax reforms that eliminate VAT on renewable energy components and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) technologies to encourage investment in the green energy sector.

Abbas stressed that energy reform is central to Nigeria’s national priorities and emphasized the need for continued investment, legislative action, and collaboration with the private sector to achieve long-term energy goals. He noted that the global energy market is rapidly shifting toward renewable sources, with more than 92% of new power generation capacity in 2024 coming from clean energy.

Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, which targets achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, is set to play a vital role in the country’s environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness. The Speaker also praised the government’s recent Electricity Act of 2023, which empowers sub-national governments and encourages private-sector participation in local energy solutions.

The event also featured speeches from African parliamentarians, including Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who highlighted the importance of strong legal frameworks in accelerating Africa’s energy transition. UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Elsie Atafuah, called on Nigeria to continue leading the way in securing a sustainable energy future for both the country and the continent.

With these collective efforts, Nigeria is poised to be a driving force in Africa’s energy transformation, supporting the provision of affordable, clean energy across the continent by 2030.
