2027 Race: APC Leader Says Tinubu May Withdraw, Awaits Amaechi’s Position

0

In Rivers State, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a close associate of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi and a leader of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu might not even run for president in 2027.

Eze predicted that there would be many surprises at the 2027 election, particularly if the United States makes the purported file on Mr. President public.

He added that the former Transport Minister is the ideal person to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Eze, Nigerians are contacting him every day to ask questions regarding Amaechi’s political interests and future plans, including his desire to become the nation’s leader, in anticipation of 2027.

In a statement released to the media, Eze claimed that Nigerians contact him about the same topics, such as “whether Amaechi is ready to run for President in 2027,” “whether Amaechi has interest for 2027,” “what is the political direction of Amaechi for 2027,” and similar questions.

According to the former national publicity secretary of the now-defunct New People’s Democratic Party, or nPDP, “Nigerians are contacting Amaechi to inquire about his interests because the current administration is not concerned with the country’s problems.”

“A government that aims to control the process in order to stay in power in 2027 has failed.”

“Any responsible government should be concerned about the faltering economy, famine and starvation, insecurity, violent killings, and other horrible crimes that are committed on a daily basis.”

However, the president is attempting to hold onto power by all means necessary in spite of the growing obstacles. That isn’t how leaders operate. Democracies are not it.

“So, it makes sense that people are urging Amaechi to act because Nigeria needs guidance.”

He stated that Amaechi is still a source of pride for Nigeria and that Nigerians are aware of his exceptional public service record, which makes him a perfect candidate for president.

“To alleviate the suffering and save Nigeria from her current hazardous state, people like Amaechi must be present on the scene. Amaechi would do whatever to ensure Nigeria’s success.

If the USA lives up to her claims and makes the purported file on Mr. President public, Tinubu might not be able to survive the election he intends to rig. 2027 will be full of surprises.

“His government’s failure, which is staring us all in the face, normally prevents the president from considering reelection.”

Tinubu: Embittered Souls Must Not Endanger The Country’s Rotational Principle – OPC Sends Warning To El-Rufai, Others

The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has accused Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, and other northern political elites of plotting to end President Bola Tinubu’s term.
The group expressed support for Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 and cautioned against self-appointed “leaders of the North” from undermining the zoning principle and removing the President prematurely.
In a statement issued on Monday, the group’s General Secretary, Bunmi Fasehun, accused Rufai and other northern political figures of attempting to shorten the North-South unwritten power rotation agreement.

“Those advocating for Asiwaju’s removal should consider the rotational system, which has ensured inclusive and egalitarian government since 1999. “That principle must not be jeopardized for the selfish interests of political adventurers like Hameed Baba-Ahmed and Nasir El-Rufai,” Fasehun stated.
Fasehun emphasized that the OPC’s nearly 10 million members and supporters will not keep silent while such political moves jeopardize national unity.

“No one can erase Asiwaju’s historic role in returning the presidency to the North in 2015 by acting against a sitting President from the South. For the first time in Nigerian history, an opposition party won the presidential election.

“It was a mission impossible that God made achievable through Tinubu’s strategy, contacts, and resources from the primaries to the general elections in 2015 and 2019.

“Evidently, Tinubu mobilised his South-West to vote massively for Buhari in both elections,” claimed the party’s statement.

Fasehun also labeled Tinubu as a product of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, comparing him to the late South African icon Nelson Mandela.

“Like the OPC and our Founder, the Late Dr. Frederick Fasehun, Tinubu was a formidable force in NADECO, the ultimate vehicle for our country’s democratic struggle, both at home and abroad. Tinubu, like Nelson Mandela, is the first Nigerian President in the Fourth Republic to emerge from the trenches of the struggle against military rule,” he added.

Nigeria is positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s energy transition, with a bold target to provide electricity to 300 million people across the continent by 2030. This was revealed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, during the opening of the First Legislative Conference and Expo on Renewable Energy in Lagos.

The Speaker emphasized Nigeria’s active involvement in the Mission 300 Initiative, a partnership with the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The initiative aims to tackle the continent’s electricity deficit, showcasing Nigeria’s leadership in advancing access to clean and affordable energy across Africa.

Abbas also commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a $1 billion financing package for the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in December 2024. The funding will support the expansion of solar energy, with plans to deploy 124 mini-grids and 25,000 solar home systems, benefiting over 200,000 Nigerians in underserved areas.

At the conference, Abbas reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to a clean energy transition, citing key legislative reforms. The 10th House of Representatives recently established a Standing Committee on Renewable Energy to coordinate national efforts to improve access to clean power. He also highlighted the passage of tax reforms that eliminate VAT on renewable energy components and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) technologies to encourage investment in the green energy sector.

Abbas stressed that energy reform is central to Nigeria’s national priorities and emphasized the need for continued investment, legislative action, and collaboration with the private sector to achieve long-term energy goals. He noted that the global energy market is rapidly shifting toward renewable sources, with more than 92% of new power generation capacity in 2024 coming from clean energy.

Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, which targets achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, is set to play a vital role in the country’s environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness. The Speaker also praised the government’s recent Electricity Act of 2023, which empowers sub-national governments and encourages private-sector participation in local energy solutions.

The event also featured speeches from African parliamentarians, including Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who highlighted the importance of strong legal frameworks in accelerating Africa’s energy transition. UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Elsie Atafuah, called on Nigeria to continue leading the way in securing a sustainable energy future for both the country and the continent.

With these collective efforts, Nigeria is poised to be a driving force in Africa’s energy transformation, supporting the provision of affordable, clean energy across the continent by 2030.

Nigeria First: FEC Approves Tinubu’s Policy to Promote Local Industries

In a significant move to prioritize local industries and businesses, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy, an initiative spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu. The policy aims to ensure that Nigerians are at the heart of all business and economic activities within the country.

Following the FEC meeting on Monday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, addressed State House Correspondents, explaining that the policy’s central focus is to promote Nigerian industries by giving them precedence in government procurement and business activities.

“If local content is available, there is no reason to seek imports,” Idris declared. “The policy is designed to place Nigerians first in all business endeavors, from procurement to production.”

Idris went on to highlight that the policy is meant to reshape government expenditure and procurement systems to boost domestic industries, ensuring that Nigerian industries take priority in government contracts. When local supply is insufficient, the government will seek to build local capacity rather than relying on foreign goods.

He also pointed to the sugar industry as an example, emphasizing that despite the existence of the Nigerian Sugar Council, the country still imports large quantities of sugar. The Minister stressed that the president’s vision is to eliminate the importation of items that could be locally produced.

To implement the policy, the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has been tasked with creating a local content compliance framework for all government procurements. The BPP will also maintain a register of high-quality Nigerian manufacturers and service providers regularly engaged by the federal government.

In an effort to further strengthen this policy, the BPP has been directed to deploy procurement officers from all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as the primary agency for procurement processes. Additionally, the Sugar Master Plan will now require participants to present clear plans for backward integration and local investment.

The Minister confirmed that all MDAs will conduct audits of their procurement plans, which will be revised to align with the new policy. Non-compliance will lead to severe penalties, including the cancellation of procurement processes and disciplinary actions against the officials responsible.

Idris concluded by underscoring that this policy marks the beginning of a new era for Nigeria’s industrial growth, national self-reliance, and a renewed sense of pride in local businesses. He emphasized that the Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy is a call for Nigerians to invest in their own industries and reduce the dependency on foreign alternatives.

According to Aminu Dahiru Ahmad, Senior Special Assistant to All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Umar Ganduje on Visual Communication and Events, his principle enjoys a positive working relationship with his domestic workers.
A brief video purportedly showing Ganduje’s police officer tightening the laces of his shoes went viral on social media on Monday. There were reactions to the video.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Ahmad said that opposition politicians had spread the footage to damage Ganduje’s reputation.

He asserts that the previous governor of Kano State shows respect and decency to his employees. He urged the people to ignore the video’s unfavorable interpretations.

He stated, “The brief video only serves as proof of the friendly relationship that exists between Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his assistants. There is a constant smile on this man’s face.

Every one of His Excellency’s domestic helpers and aides feels at home in the vicinity. The public can verify Ganduje’s warmth and regard for his subordinates.

People who know His Excellency would tell you that he is among Nigeria’s most honorable political figures. He and I have been working together for about a decade. He considers me to be his biological son. This individual rejects the notions of ego-massaging and sycophancy.

“Mischief makers who wish to make a political point by exposing the public to a new scandal are spreading the film. The public ought to completely reject the assertion.

However, this will undoubtedly not make Abdullahi Umar Ganduje less popular. After providing excellent service to the Kano State populace, he is currently serving his nation.

The opposition is unhappy that His Excellency has given the APC a remarkable boost. With the defection of Ifeanyi Okowa, Atiku’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, and Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta, to the APC, the party is gaining traction.

Battle for LG Seats: APC, PDP Roll Out Plans as July Polls Near in Lagos

0

As Lagos State prepares for its upcoming local government elections in July, the state chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have stepped up political activities across the state.

At the APC secretariat in Ikeja, the party’s Screening Appeal Committee, chaired by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kazeem Adeniji, has commenced hearings on petitions filed by aggrieved chairmanship aspirants who were earlier disqualified. This move comes just days before the party’s primaries scheduled for Saturday.

In anticipation of the primaries, the Lagos APC Electoral Committee led by Babatunde Ogala (SAN) has called for a crucial stakeholders’ meeting. Scheduled for Wednesday at the party’s headquarters, the meeting will bring together members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), local government chairmen, federal and state legislators, outgoing council officials, and cleared aspirants.

Meanwhile, the PDP has launched its nomination process by distributing free forms to chairmanship and councillorship hopefuls. PDP BoT member and party leader in Lagos, Chief Bode George, explained that the gesture is aimed at removing financial barriers to political participation.

Focus on Women Representation

Lagos APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has issued a directive urging party leaders at the local level to prioritize female aspirants in accordance with the party’s commitment to gender inclusion.

While 187 female aspirants were screened for councillorship positions, the party’s Central Working Committee has approved 90 women to proceed to the primaries. In support of this, the party slashed nomination fees to ₦250,000 for women, compared to ₦1 million for male aspirants.

Rep. Kafilat Ogbara joined calls for increased gender parity, advocating for a leadership model that ensures either a male chairman with a female vice-chairman or vice versa.

“We need intentional policies that bring women into local government leadership. It’s time to follow models like that of Governor Wike and others who gave women equal seats at the table,” she said.

PDP Eyes Strong Comeback

In the PDP camp, Lagos Chairman Philip Aivoji confirmed the party’s readiness for the election. He noted that screening will soon follow the nominations, with the party already deploying an electoral management committee.

Speaking on the party’s chances, Aivoji expressed confidence in winning some LGAs, but declined to reveal the target areas, citing strategic reasons.

Chief Bode George also addressed internal party unity, saying that the PDP in Lagos had resolved its differences and was now more focused than ever. He dismissed concerns over the departure of former governorship candidate Olajide “Jandor” Adediran, insisting the party remains intact and undeterred.

“We’ve moved past our divisions. Our goal now is to support credible candidates and give Lagosians a true alternative,” George said.

Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a content creator, Muhammed Kabir Sa’ad, over alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency.

Sa’ad, known on TikTok and Instagram as @youngcee0066, had posted a video showing himself spraying naira notes on the ground, stepping on them, and taunting the EFCC in Hausa, daring the anti-graft agency to arrest him if they could.

In a statement issued on Monday by the EFCC spokesperson, the Commission confirmed the arrest, stating that Sa’ad was apprehended through surveillance operations in the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna State.

He has since been taken into custody at the EFCC’s Kaduna office for further interrogation.

The agency stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the EFCC also confirmed the arrest of controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following multiple petitions from members of the public.

According to reports, Otse was picked up on Friday, May 2, 2025, after visiting a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch alongside his mother to lodge a complaint about alleged unauthorized deductions from her account.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, told BBC News Pidgin on Monday that the arrest was based on several complaints lodged by different individuals, and not necessarily related to the GTBank incident.

“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale stated.

He added that Otse would be granted bail upon meeting stipulated conditions, and would subsequently be arraigned in court.

“We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible; we are law-abiding,” Oyewale said.

“Despite their struggles in this tournament, they are a capable team, and we must treat them with the utmost respect. Our focus will be on maintaining high levels of concentration to ensure we earn the three points required to proceed to the quarter-finals.”

Meanwhile, Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi reacted on his team’s hard-fought draw with Morocco, recognizing the difficulties they encountered during the game.

The team started strong, displaying their skills and imposing dominance in the first half; however, the Moroccans rallied and controlled much of the second half, resulting in a tense scenario on the pitch.

Bameyi praised both his teammates and the other side, stating, “It was an intense and fierce encounter, and I believe the result appropriately reflects the war we fought. We are grateful to God for the point we gained. It was critical for our morale as we gear up for the vital match against Kenya.”

Otti Misleading Public with Propaganda – Okiyi Kalu Alleges

According to former Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment John Okiyi Kalu, Governor Alex Otti would rather engage in propaganda than lead.
According to reports, Okiyi Kalu, the former governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s commissioner, made this statement in response to Governor Otti’s interview last week.
Kalu refuted the claim that Ikpeazu’s government left nothing in the state’s treasury in an interview with Arise News on Monday.

He claimed that before leaving government, Ikpeazu left ₦4 billion in cash and nearly cash assets for the next administration.

“As you may have heard, Governor Alex Otti received nearly N4 billion in cash, according to KPMG reports commissioned by his administration. This is a process review document. He was also left with near-cash instructions. We also abandoned other assets since Okezie Ikpeazu likes to talk about liability and wasn’t quite pressured, even though his administration also won N24 billion in stamp taxes. He ought to be discussing assets if you have come to the public forum to discuss liability.

“You claimed there was nothing left in the coffers despite the fact that Otti inherited a $60 million round fund, $225 million African Development Fund, N24 billion in stamp duties owed to Abia State, and roughly N4 billion in cash in Union Bank,” he stated.

Kalu charged that Governor Otti’s knowledge of project planning and state finances was inadequate.

“I like that interview because it revealed a lot of information. For the first time in my life, I witnessed a state governor who was unable to discuss the monthly IGR earnings of the state.

For the first time, I observed a governor who raised concerns about an airport project but was unaware of the costs to the state’s citizens or the federal government’s investment in the project, despite the project having budgetary approval. That reflects Dr. Alex Otti’s character; he is very poor on content and very high on propaganda,” he said.

“He told you that’s the first floor of the new Government House that was commissioned, that he visited that place and it was fantastic,” he continued, referring to the unfinished government house. Permit me to acknowledge for a moment that the structure was not finished.

Ikpeazu constructed 213 roads, hospitals, and street lights throughout the state, he continued.

“There was no excellent road when he came to power. Ikpeazu constructed all of the nice roads, placed cameras, and constructed schools and streetlights, he said.

Breaking: National Assembly’s Agbese Pushes for Cooperation Between State and Federal Governments to End Benue’s Security Crisis

By Udume Chibueze

Abuja, Nigeria: Rt. Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesman of the 10th House of Representatives and Okanga 1 of the Agila Kingdom, has decried the worsening state of insecurity in Benue State, blaming the escalation on the state government’s prolonged denial of the crisis.

Speaking to journalists on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily in Abuja on Monday, Agbese revealed that the security situation in Benue had been deteriorating long before the current administration took office in 2023 but worsened due to the state government’s refusal to acknowledge the extent of the problem.

“When we came on board in 2023, over 80 percent of us were new lawmakers elected under the same political party. As representatives of the people, we conducted assessments across various constituencies and compiled a comprehensive report on the insecurity ravaging the state,” Agbese said.

He explained that the report was submitted to Governor Hyacinth Alia and also presented on the floor of the National Assembly, alongside formal communications with security agencies and relevant government bodies.

“Unfortunately, although the governor received the report and promised to pray about the situation, no concrete action followed. Instead, we were met with consistent denial from the state government, even as lives were being lost daily,” Agbese stated.

According to him, efforts by members of the National Assembly to engage federal authorities eventually led to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directing security agencies to take action. However, conflicting narratives between the federal and state governments created delays.

“At every point, while we informed the federal government that our people were being killed, the state government kept insisting that there was no crisis or that the people were killing themselves,” he lamented.

Agbese welcomed the recent visit by the National Security Adviser and expressed hope that it would mark a turning point in the government’s response to the crisis.

“We thank God it is not too late. His Excellency has now acknowledged the gravity of the situation, though many lives have already been lost across the 23 local government areas,” he said.

The lawmaker called for full cooperation with the military and other security agencies, pledging the support of parliamentarians to ensure a swift and lasting resolution.

“With unity of purpose and coordinated efforts, we believe we can restore peace to Benue State,” Agbese concluded.

Insecurity: Governor Alia Failed Benue People, Says Rep. Philip Agbese

Deputy Spokesman of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, has faulted Governor Hyacinth Alia for what he described as a failure to act promptly in addressing the escalating insecurity in Benue State.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Agbese was asked directly whether he was blaming the governor for the latest wave of violence. In response, the lawmaker stopped short of an outright accusation but made his position clear.

“It would be unfair for me to stand before Nigerians and say things that are not true or clear,” Agbese said. “But I believe it is left for Nigerians to judge, based on what I’ve shared.”

According to him, the state government had been warned about rising tensions and attacks in various constituencies, but failed to act in time. He emphasized that if Governor Alia had taken the necessary steps earlier, many of the recent killings could have been prevented.

“We are all members of the All Progressives Congress. When we saw the early signs of insecurity spreading from different parts of the state, we drew His Excellency’s attention to it. Had we acted swiftly, some of the people who lost their lives would still be with us today,” he said.

Agbese called for compensation to be given to affected families and urged the state government to collaborate more effectively with federal security agencies.

“Now is the time to correct those failures. The state government must consider organizing compensation for families that have lost loved ones and work directly with federal authorities to decisively end this crisis,” he added.

The lawmaker concluded by stating that honesty was needed at all levels of leadership and called on Governor Alia to acknowledge the lapses and take urgent corrective steps.

“If we are being honest—including His Excellency—we must admit that the people of Benue were failed in this regard. But it’s not too late to fix it.”

Agbese’s remarks come amid renewed efforts by the Federal Government, including the recent involvement of the National Security Adviser, to tackle the security crisis in Benue State.

Breaking News: Rt. Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese Addresses Security Issues in Benue State

Rt. Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman of the 10th House of Representatives, addressed the escalating security concerns in Benue State. His comments came as questions were raised about the political dynamics and the impact of the rift between Governor Hyacinth Alia and the SGF, George Akume, on the state’s security situation.

In his response, Agbese emphasized that the attackers in the state are not selective in their victims, disregarding political affiliations, religion, or tribe.

“The people who come to kill don’t care whether you’re from the APC or PDP. They kill indiscriminately. The real issue here is not the political rift but the lack of effective action and leadership,” Agbese stated firmly.

He pointed out that despite the security challenges in Benue, internal conflicts at the political level had hampered the necessary response from the state government. Agbese revealed that he and other members of the National Assembly had presented the issue to the Chief of Defense Staff, but reports on the situation were often conflicting, with local government and state authorities downplaying the severity of the crisis.

Addressing the situation further, Agbese called for an end to politicizing security matters, noting that when the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, attempted to visit displaced persons in Benue, the state government blocked his visit due to political differences.

“We must put the lives of our people above politics,” Agbese said, adding that the people of Benue need action, not political maneuvering.

Despite his criticism of the state government’s handling of the crisis, Agbese remained hopeful. “I believe that the recent visit by the National Security Adviser will help bridge the gap between the federal and state governments and lead to better cooperation,” he said. He urged both the state and federal governments to work together, putting aside their differences to tackle the ongoing security challenges.

Agbese reiterated that the security of Benue State should not be about personal or political gains, but about fulfilling the promise to protect the lives and property of the people. He concluded by urging the state government to take immediate steps to address the insecurity plaguing the region and expressed confidence that collaborative efforts could lead to meaningful change.
