Coronavirus: Oyakhilome attacks government officials arresting pastors

0

Founder of Loveworld Ministries International, popularly known as Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has expressed his disapproval of law enforcement officers arresting pastors flouting government’s directives.

Oyakhilome spoke during a midweek service held online and reacted to reports that some pastors were arrested by government officials in a bid to enforce lockdown order as a preventive measure against the coronavirus pandemic.

The cleric warned that anyone who assaults a pastor could be in danger.

“He was excited he arrested a pastor. Terrible! But he is not the first to arrest a pastor,” he said.

“Jesus was arrested and Jesus was doing what the people didn’t want him to do and the apostles did what they were not allowed to do.

“The government said, ‘Don’t preach in this name anymore’. They went on preaching. Right? They arrested them.

“So it is not enough to say, well, if you do what the government say not to do, then we have the power to arrest you. Arrest! That pastor was not the first person to do what government said don’t do.

“When I heard of it, I didn’t judge him because what if he was praying and that was the guidance he got?

“Let me tell you, it is not everyone that will take some of the steps that we might take. Not everyone. The Holy Spirit knows exactly how he wants things done. It’s up to him. What I’m always saying is that, anybody who assaults a pastor is in danger,” he said during the sermon.

Oyakhilome continued: “He is in more trouble than the pastor. Pastors are not ordinary people. If you like you can call them ordinary men, that is up to you, but the Spirit that works with them, when that Spirit is fighting you, nobody can help you. No amount of prayer, no one can help you.

“It is only people who say they are Christians that fight ministers of the gospel. Others when they know, they remove their hands, He is a pastor. They shift away, but the one that is a Christian is bold, he enters the church. So, if you are a pastor and they assault you. Don’t feel bad, you are not the first, don’t feel bad.

“But, for the rest pray for your pastors, remember to pray for them. Never condemn a pastor. Never. Don’t ever do it. Don’t do it. Don’t join those who do it. Don’t! Keep your mouth to yourself.”

Oyakhilome recently joined renowned preacher, Benny Hinn, in a live broadcast to pray for the world against the coronavirus pandemic.

Twenty seven commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as okada riders, who left Nigeria and took illegal routes to Ghana were on Friday, April 3, arrested and paraded by the Ghanaian Police.

The okada riders were said to have decided to leave Lagos State following the ban on okada riding in the state and the current lockdown imposed by the Federal Government and Lagos State government.

According to Ghanaweb, a Ghanaian online news agency, the men were arrested at the border town of Ketu South after they had entered the country through the illegal routes.

When questioned, the men said they were okada riders in Nigeria but due to their inability to do their job, they decided to move to Ghana to ply their trade as they were on their way to Aflao in the Volta region to do okada business.

Head of the police in Ketu South, Elliot Agbenorwu, says the 27 men are currently being questioned and after all necessary interrogations are done, they will be sent back to Nigeria.

The Ghana Immigration Service recently disclosed that some Ghanaians are helping foreigners to enter the country through illegal routes.

“We have noted especially at the Afloa border stretch various attempts by individuals both foreigners and Ghanaians to enter illegally. They have been intercepted by the border patrol…” Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCGI) in-charge of Command Post and Operations, Mr Laud Kwesi Affrifah, said.

Project

By Chinonso Alozie, Owerri

The Imo state commissioner for Special Projects, Simon Ebegbulem, yesterday called on the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Fafowora, to unravel the sponsors of the murder of three persons in Umuike Ndiowere community in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner made this call in Owerri while expressing the grief suffered by his people regarding the killings.

Just as he asked Fafowora, to do everything professionally to investigate the six persons the villagers had arrested and handed over to the police, so as to enable him to uncover how the suspects linked to the killings have been operating within the affected communities.

Narrating how the tragedy occurred serially in the villages, Ebegbulem said: “Three persons were killed in my community, specifically in Umuchaku Uhuala, another one at Umuodoma Alaocha. Two of the people killed were dumped in a hole where the bodies were found.

“While the third person was killed at Mbaraocha Umuike when she went to the farm. These killings were carried out a month ago. Again, these killers who came from outside the Local Government stormed my community again on Thursday.

“Six of them came on a bus and when they arrived in the same area, they attempted to abduct a man called Rufus on his farm. While they were struggling with him to push him into the waiting bus, the wife raised an alarm which attracted our community members.”

He continued: “That was how these suspected ritualistic were apprehended. Four of them were apprehended at the scene while two escaped but were later arrested after our people combed the bushes.

“They were handed over to the police for further investigation because we believe that these same people may have been involved in the killings going on in our community.

“So we are appealing to the CP of police in the state to investigate the six persons arrested thoroughly so we can get to the root of these killings in the community. We want to know their sponsors and why they have unleashed mayhem in our community. And of course, those involved must be prosecuted.”

OPEC+ ministers to talk on Monday, seeking to stabilize oil price

OPEC+ debates biggest ever cut as virus destroys oil demandOPEC

Energy ministers from the OPEC+ oil cartel would conduct a video conference on Monday, in an effort to find a way to stabilize prices for the commodity, Azerbaijan announced on Friday.

“This meeting is being held at the invitation of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia after the talks mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump,” Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting will include the members of the Vienna-based Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allied oil-producing states in the OPEC+ format, such as Azerbaijan and Russia, according to the statement.

A Vienna-based source confirmed that OPEC+ ministers will conduct talks on Monday, which may be joined by additional countries.

Azerbaijan, an oil-rich, former Soviet republic on the Caspian Sea, has close economic relations with Russia.

Trump said on Thursday that he expected Russia and Saudi Arabia to cut oil production in an effort to stabilize prices.

A price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia has drastically driven down oil prices globally. On top of that, a slowdown prompted by the coronavirus pandemic has reduced demand.

Trump has been in contact with Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed Bin Salman, and Russian President Vladimir Putin this week to discuss the oil market.

“I expect and hope that they will be cutting back approximately 10 million barrels and maybe substantially more, which, if it happens, will be great for the oil and gas industry,’’ Trump said on Twitter.

COVID-19: Warri video clips fake – Delta Govt

0

Mr. Charles Aniagwu

The Delta State Government has urged the public, particularly Deltans, to discountenance video clips purportedly on Warri residents defying the stay-at-home order of the state government over the Coronavirus pandemic and confronting security operatives, saying it was concocted and therefore, fake.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made the call in a statement on Friday in Asaba and said that the concocted videos were not a true representation of happenings in Warri or any part of Delta in the last 48 hours.

According to him, the videos in circulation are figments of the imagination of a few disgruntled elements bent at pitching the people against the state government.

Aniagwu stated that the purported video of two military personnel threatening the residents of Warri was an arrangement of those who didn’t want the peace of the state, adding that the video was not a true representation of Nigerian military officers who knew the implication of threatening citizens with such an illicit video.

He added that the military command whose responsibility it was to deploy personnel, had debunked the video material.

The commissioner, therefore, called on the public, especially Deltans, to disregard the video as it was the machination of those bent at causing disaffection between Deltans and military authorities.

“Let me thank Deltans for their cooperation so far and urge them to discard the concocted videos aimed at causing disaffection between the military and Deltans.

“There is no report of killing of soldiers in Warri or any other part of Delta”.

“The concocted videos were aimed at causing disaffection between Deltans and the security agencies carrying out lawful duties”.

“While we appeal to our people to remain law-abiding, it is imperative to state that videos trending in social media are not a true reflection of happenings in the state”.

“We, therefore, call on our people to discard the videos and continue to remain indoors as directed by the government to enable us to curb the possible outbreak and spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state”.

“As a government, we will continue to appeal to the security agencies to apply rules of engagement as practiced in most democracies as they carry out their lawful duties,” he added.
