I Have My Own Strategy – Fubara Cautions Loyalists Against Unauthorized Moves

0

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of suspended Rivers State, has cautioned his followers to exercise caution when acting or speaking on his behalf.
The governor advised his followers not to carry out any unapproved acts on his behalf because doing so could put him in further trouble.
Governor Fubara claims to be the one who wears the shoes and is therefore aware of their pinching points.

He reportedly made the proposal on Sunday while addressing at the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum’s Night of Tributes, which was held in memory of the late elder leader Chief Edwin Clark.
“Do what I want, not what you want to do,” he urged. Since I am the one wearing the shoes, I am aware of the answer to my issue. I know how to solve my issue. There are some things you do that ruin my peace process instead of bringing me peace. It causes me issues. I’m warning everyone here. In order to avoid giving the impression that I’m sending a private message to anyone, I’m being serious and saying it in church.

‘Our Output Is Sufficient’ – Dangote Refinery Counters Marketers’ Accusations

Claims made by oil marketers that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery cannot meet local fuel requirements have been refuted.
The refinery insisted that it has enough fuel to meet demand at home and export to other countries.

In response to remarks made by the refinery’s founder, Aliko Dangote, regarding the $20 billion facility being undermined by certain powerful marketers, Olufemi Adewole, the Executive Secretary of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), reportedly said that marketers are mainly concerned with maintaining their operations through fuel imports.

While he acknowledged the vested interests of private depot owners who have made significant investments over the years to guarantee a consistent gasoline supply for Nigerians, Adewole dismissed Dangote’s idea of a “cabal” within the business.

The DAPPMAN official stated that even with its substantial 650,000 barrel capacity, the Dangote refinery has been unable to supply even the current lower levels of local consumption, and that private depot owners still bear the bulk of the fuel distribution duties across the country.

In a recent presentation at the Villa, the chief executive of the authority (NMDPRA) quoted the Dangote refinery as saying that it is not able to meet even the lower level of local consumption. Thus, the Dangote refinery is currently unable to meet. The DAPPMAN scribe declared, “We, the owners of private depots, have been filling the void and attending to the needs of Nigerians.

It is untrue to say that the Dangote Refinery is not fulfilling demand.
After meeting the demands of the local market, the refinery continues to ship fuel abroad, a senior official from the Dangote refinery informed media, requesting anonymity because of constraints on addressing the matter.

He questioned how marketers concluded that the refinery could not meet local demand, given that it ships millions of liters every day.

He maintained that local consumption data in Nigeria has been skewed throughout time for a variety of reasons, especially during the fuel subsidy era, and that the public will eventually be informed of the true consumption levels.

According to several accounts I’ve seen, the marketers claimed that our refinery was unable to satisfy local demand. The statement is untrue.

The official said, “We export and produce more than enough fuel for the local market.”

Another refinery official warned reporters that importers will try to thwart the “Nigeria First Policy,” maintaining that President Bola Tinubu’s decision to ban the importation of commodities that may be produced domestically is the only way to boost the economy.

“The President’s decision to prohibit imports is the only option to boost the economy, but importers will stop at nothing to make the strategy fail. The source questioned, “Why are we importing what we have locally?”

The DAPPMAN chairman reportedly accused Dangote on Friday of attempting to monopolize the downstream industry, particularly when the refinery implemented price reductions.

He disclosed that price slashes after cargoes left the gantry have left many marketers absorbing losses quietly, just to stay afloat.

“We weren’t here to create a stir. However, in order to continue being profitable and sustainable, we have been taking the brunt of it,” Adewole said.

In response, the Dangote representative stated that certain importers disregard the welfare of the average citizen, focusing solely on profit maximisation.

He noted that many of these importers participated in round-tripping while the Federal Government was still subsidizing imported petroleum products.

“These people don’t care for the ordinary man. They are interested in their pockets. Many of them engaged in round-tripping during the fuel subsidy era,” the source stated.

He also queried the current daily fuel consumption figure, saying the real figure must be disclosed.

“Ask them to state how much we consume as a nation. Let them give us the real figure. That’s what they don’t want the masses to know. But the masses will know that one day. Those keeping the secrets know themselves, but nothing lasts forever. We produce every day, and we export steadily. So, what are they talking about?” he queried.

How Did They Get To Know Dangote Refinery’s Stock?
Before deciding whether the refinery can sufficiently meet local demand, a consultant for the facility, which processes 650,000 barrels per day, urged DAPPMAN, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria to disclose the amount of fuel currently held in stock by the refinery.

“We need to ask DAPPMAN and the other marketers how they got to know the amount of stock that Dangote has. How did they arrive at the conclusion that the refinery can’t satisfy local needs?” the consultant asked while speaking with the media.

Ganduje Criticized by NNPP, Ohanaeze, Afenifere Over One-Party State

0

Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has come under fire for his remarks regarding a one-party state.
According to reports, Ganduje stated in the presidential house on Friday that there is no need to worry about Nigeria becoming a one-party state.
China has made great economic strides under a one-party system, according to the APC National Chairman.

“There is no need for leaders to be alarmed about a one-party state. One-party states are negotiated, not imposed. Other political parties are observing the results of our party’s effective leadership. “I think there is nothing wrong with them coming to our party voluntarily,” he said.
Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano, responded to the former governor of Kano State’s remarks by accusing Ganduje of lacking democratic principles.

“Ganduje’s views on a one-party system did not surprise me because they demonstrate a lack of dedication to democratic principles. A true democracy values dissent, diversity of thought, and involvement.

“There are major issues when someone in a position of authority ignores other people or their opinions. Openness, inclusivity, and acknowledging the legitimacy of various political players are all aspects of democracy. Being a member of a different party does not render one insignificant; rather, it enhances democratic dialogue.

It becomes an issue when someone begins to feel that there should only be one party or that their opinions are the only ones that count. Without a strong opposition, no nation can grow. The United States and Britain, two democracies we hold in high regard, do not have one-party systems.

The chairman of the Kano NNPP urged Ganduje to take back his remarks, pointing out that power is temporary.

Respecting the idea that the people are ultimately in charge is essential to leadership. The roles we currently occupy will eventually be filled by someone else. That’s what democracy is all about. He told Daily Trust, “I genuinely urge him to withdraw the statement, as I believe most Nigerians are uncomfortable with such remarks.”

Ohanaeze: “One-Part State Not Possible”
Speaking, Ezechi Chukwu, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s National Publicity Secretary, cautioned that a one-party state is detrimental to democracy.

Chukwu reminded supporters that a one-party system is insufficient for Nigeria to prosper. But Nigeria needs powerful opposition parties, he said.

He emphasized that a multi-party democracy could only succeed if there was a robust opposition.

“Our modern polity is not conducive to a one-party state or mono-party democracy. Nigeria’s current constitution does not allow for a one-party system. “It allows for a democracy with multiple parties,” he stated.

The rationale for the multi-party system contained in our constitution is clear: the writers of our constitution must have taken into account the pluralistic nature of our nation and our aspirations as a people.

Therefore, it is detrimental to our democracy when anything is done or institutionalized that erodes the complex political structure of our constitution.

Because we lack independent, strong, and robust institutions, there isn’t any significant opposition. Our multi-party democracy would prosper if our institutions were depersonalized and independent of any ruling government.

It is the moral responsibility of our political leaders to foster an atmosphere that supports the growth of our democracy. The pillars upon which our political life is built will be threatened by anything to the contrary,” he stated.

Afenifere: Nigerians Will Oppose a One-Party State
Prince Justice Faloye, the spokesperson for Afenifere, also talked to Daily Trust and lamented that Lagos State has been a one-party state for 12 years, saying that this is not possible in Nigeria.
A one-party state, according to Faloye, is not democratic and therefore not to be supported. He pointed out that an undemocratic electoral system is the reason why lawmakers switch to the ruling party.

This system is democratic, whereas a one-party state is not. We are aware that they are moving in that direction, threatening governors to defect.

This is the situation in Lagos, which has essentially operated as a one-party state for the past twelve years. Nigerians, however, will oppose it.

“We’ve witnessed it. Democracy is dead because he has the judiciary, police, and INEC in his pockets. Violent change is unavoidable if peaceful change is rendered impossible.

“People will vote for you if you perform very well. The PDP resigned after losing, despite their belief that they would reign for 60 years. We anticipate the same outcome if Tinubu loses. He asserted that no one-party state has ever been able to avert an eventual uprising.

Amid Defections, Wike Participates in PDP Stakeholders Forum

In a stunning turn of events inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), unexpectedly attended a pivotal PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja on Sunday.
In the midst of rising tensions and defections inside the opposition party, it was understood that this was his first time attending a gathering of this nature in months.
Given his prominent position in the breakaway G5 faction and his ongoing support for the APC-led federal government, Wike’s participation is noteworthy.

Rumors regarding his possible defection have been circulating, raising doubts about his commitment to the PDP due to his affiliation with the ruling party.

However, as the general elections of 2027 draw near, Wike’s Sunday sitting with his current and past colleagues raised the possibility of a détente or a reassessment of his political approach.
Six current PDP governors as well as a number of past state chief executives who had previously served under the party’s platform attended the meeting, which was presided over by Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State. Seyi Makinde from Oyo, Ademola Adeleke from Osun, Caleb Mutfwang from Plateau, Ahmadu Fintiri from Adamawa, Peter Mbah from Enugu, and Dauda Lawal from Zamfara were among the governors who attended the meeting.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who has also been suspected of favoring the APC, was conspicuously absent.

When Wike arrived at the location at approximately 9:23 PM, former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), who are his G5 friends, had already seated themselves with other interested parties.

Notwithstanding the prior rifts and differences that had created a schism within the PDP, his attendance at the meeting is interpreted as an indication of a potential concerted return to discussion within the party.

Three-Storey Building in Onitsha Destroyed by Fire

A fire disaster in Fegge Onitsha, Anambra State, destroyed property worth millions of naira, causing chaos.
The event occurred on Thursday, May 8, according to one of the victims, who only gave journalists his name, Jude.
The person who claimed to run a small industrial sewing factory on the building’s upper floor blamed an electrical surge for the fire.

He said to the Daily Post that the fire started at 2:30 am as a result of a shaky electrical supply that continued all night Wednesday, causing large losses.

Jude added that everything was destroyed in the fire, including six more sewing machines, seven industrial sewing machines costing about ₦1.5 million apiece, and an unknown quantity of fabric materials valued at millions of naira.
The landlord, Aaron Ezeobi, was irate and said he had advised his tenant on several occasions not to use the residential property for business or a workshop.

Before the fire, I had previously given him a quit notice that was set to expire the following month. I’m hurting because building materials are so expensive,” he stated.

Emeka Idu, the member of the House of Representatives for the Onitsha North & South Constituency, offered his sympathies to the victims of the recent fire tragedy.

He sent his condolences to the landlord and the renter, encouraging them to maintain their fortitude in the face of their loss in order to avoid any possible health problems.

Idu gave Jude financial help and prayed for a speedy recovery.

In order to provide further support, he also promised to look into the price of the industrial sewing machines.

Idu also asked the landlord to let him know when the damaged building’s roof will be replaced so he may make a financial contribution.

In order to prevent high blood pressure, which might result in stroke, please hold yourself and try not to dwell too much on your loss.

He promised, “The ₦200,000 is to hold yourself for now pending when you are ready to replace the sewing machines. Let us see how we can further assist you.”

National Assembly Clerk Calls for Deliberate Effort in Implementing e-Parliament Model

For efficient operations, National Assembly Clerk Kamoru Ogunlana has advocated for the country’s parliament to be digitalized.

Ogulana made this statement on Friday, May 9, during a three-day retreat that the National Assembly and the Policy and Legal Advocacy Center (PLAC) had organized.
According to him, the National Assembly needs to use digital technologies for legislative procedures with purpose.

He asserts that the legislature now views digitizing the system as a pressing requirement rather than an optional one.
In addition to addressing new issues, Ogunala stated that the retreat’s itinerary included team-building exercises that efficiently utilized its human capital.

Legal restrictions have slowed the adoption of digital technologies in the legislature, he added, but Nigeria no longer has any justifications now that the Evidence Act of 1945 has been repealed.

“That barrier has been removed with the new Evidence Act 2004 in place, and there should be no justification for delay.” “Failure to integrate digital technology exposes us to future shutdowns.” When implementing the e-Parliament paradigm, we must be deliberate,” he continued.

Breaking: Governor Zulum of Borno Bans Fuel Sales Over Ongoing Insurgency

Amid intensified efforts to counter insurgency, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has placed an immediate ban on the sale of gasoline in the Bama Local Government Area, which includes Bama town and the border settlement of Banki.

Following discussions with security authorities, the instruction aims to cut off supplies to Boko Haram militants in the area.
In a statement issued in Maiduguri on Saturday, Malam Dauda Iliya, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, made the news.

Governor Zulum announced, “I have ordered the immediate prohibition of the sale of gasoline in Bama town, Banki, and other areas of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect.”

He cautioned that any attempts to disobey the directive will be met with harsh enforcement of the restriction.

To be clear, there will be no sacred cows when this restriction is enforced.

Security forces have been ordered to take strong action against any fueling station or person who disobeys this order. “Anyone found guilty will be dealt with appropriately,” he said.

At the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, Nigerian Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima has officially opened the historic 2025 Hajj pilgrimage exercise. This is the airport’s first international flight since it opened in 1983.

Three hundred and fifteen pilgrims were transported to Medina, Saudi Arabia by Nigeria’s top airline, Air Peace.

At Friday night’s flag-off event, Shettima praised Imo State Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma for encouraging religious inclusivity and tolerance in the state.

In addition, the vice president urged the pilgrims to respect Nigerian principles and act as genuine representatives of the country while they were in the Holy Land.

Uzodimma reaffirmed in his speech the administration’s dedication to improving the state’s aviation facilities.

He emphasized that the airport would further establish Owerri as a center for international and religious travel by facilitating the airlift of Christian pilgrims during upcoming activities.

315 pilgrims were evacuated from the airport to Medina, Saudi Arabia, according to a statement by Air Peace.

To get to the Asian nation for the 2025 Hajj, the pilgrims were airlifted in a nonstop flight.

The airline used its wide-body Boeing 777-300 aircraft for the journey, which was the first time a plane of that size had ever touched down on the runway at Owerri, according to Air Peace’s management.

The airport’s increased capacity and preparedness to manage international operations of international standards was implied by the statement.

Nigeria’s rising aviation capabilities in expanding international operations across all geopolitical zones are further highlighted by this historic development, which also marks a key milestone for the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, the statement stated.

Recent rumors that Air Peace would be suspended from Hajj operations are also strongly refuted by this successful flight.

The airline has launched its 2025 hajj operations from Owerri, a new departure city, in addition to maintaining its standing as a trustworthy partner in national service.

His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, as well as other national dignitaries and religious leaders were also present at the historic event, which further supported the event’s unity and national significance.

Tinubu Meets APC Stakeholders from Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday hosted top-ranking political leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States in a high-level consultative meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The strategic engagement featured the presence of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, and other prominent political figures from the North-West region. Discussions centered around party unity, regional security, and accelerating sustainable development in the zone.

Speaking after the meeting, Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State emphasized the importance of the gathering, describing it as “a demonstration of collective leadership and unwavering dedication to the prosperity of our people and the nation at large.”

“It was an honor to be part of this important dialogue with our leader, Senator Wamakko, our party chairman Dr. Ganduje, and other stakeholders from Kebbi and Zamfara States. Our interaction with His Excellency, President Tinubu, reaffirmed our shared vision for peace, progress, and inclusive development across the North-West and Nigeria as a whole,” Governor Aliyu said.

The meeting is seen as part of broader political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the APC intensifies efforts to consolidate its base and ensure stronger national cohesion.
