APC Governors Stand with Tinubu, Vow Support Amid Economic Reforms

0

In the midst of widespread economic hardship and mounting popular discontent, governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform have reaffirmed their steadfast support for President Bola Tinubu’s bold reform initiatives.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma, declared at a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Wednesday that despite early criticism, Tinubu’s economic reforms are gaining respect domestically and internationally.
The summit, which brought together APC governors, ministers, and party officials, provided an opportunity to assess the administration’s success, reaffirm party unity, and define a course forward in support of Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria.

“At the start of this administration, the opposition was very vocal in criticizing the government’s reform efforts. But today, the president is vindicated,” Uzodimma stated.

He explained that Tinubu’s economic measures, which have been heavily criticized domestically, are now being praised by renowned worldwide institutions. “The president is being commended by international bodies such as the World Bank and the IMF,” the official said.

Uzodimma stressed that the APC’s unity and internal democracy are critical to the party’s success. “This government was created by all progressive governors. Everyone present today is an APC member, regardless of their official status. “We’ve come together to congratulate ourselves and Nigeria on recent developments,” he said.

According to him, the discussion focused on strategizing how to effectively serve party members and residents who remain loyal to the party even during difficult times.

“We have a duty to support this brave man, who is committed to Nigeria’s progress,” according to the governor.

Speaking about President Tinubu’s forthcoming second anniversary in office, he stated that plans were underway to mark the occasion with a mix of celebration and reflection. “The APC National Working Committee will soon unveil the anniversary programmes and events, with full participation,” he assured us.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, described the meeting as a strategic and private-party conversation.

“This was a family meeting of APC governors, ministers and National Working Committee members,” Idris told the media.

He emphasized that the event provided an opportunity to assess the government’s success as it approached the midway point of its tenure. “We are delighted with what has been accomplished thus far. “There’s a lot to show,” he remarked.

The minister stated that the APC is increasing public engagement to better inform residents about the administration’s milestones while also soliciting comments for future improvements.

“We aim to collectively ensure Nigeria achieves the prosperity President Tinubu promised on taking office,” he stated. “In spite of challenges, we’re on the right path, and with God’s help, Nigeria will succeed.”

Group Protests Tinubu’s NCDC Pick, APC Forum Breaks Silence

The concerns against President Bola Tinubu’s choice of Cyril Tsenyil as the Managing Director of the recently established North Central Development Commission (NCDC) have been dismissed by the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum.
Through its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the APC Forum said Thursday that those behind the protests against Tsenyil’s appointment are opposition-funded imposters who are trying to discredit the North Central Development Commission and thwart its goal of fostering rapid development in the North-Central area.

According to information obtained, the Concerned Plateau Youth Forum, a group of Plateau State residents, urged President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday to immediately withdraw Tsenyil’s candidacy, claiming that the appointment does not serve the interests of the state’s citizens as a whole.

The organization said it would demonstrate in Abuja to demand that Tsenyil’s nomination as MD of the North Central Development Commission be withdrawn in a statement signed by Danladi Pam. The North-Central APC Forum responded by calling the Concerned Plateau Youth Forum and Danladi Pam mysterious organizations that are controlled by opposition politicians who are unhappy with the accomplishments of the APC government under President Bola Tinubu.

The Forum also denounced the group’s statement as an effort to exert pressure on President Tinubu.

In order to avoid being seen as enemies of the North-Central area, the APC Forum advised individuals responsible for the purported conspiracy to think again about their actions.

We boldly state that these individuals are neither native to the North-Central region nor inhabitants of the Plateau. With a tried-and-true technocrat like Mr. Cyril Tsenyil appointed as the Managing Director, no right-thinking North Centraler would want to stand in the way of the North-Central Development Commission’s accelerated development.

We don’t know the aforementioned Danladi Pam or his crew. We think that the faceless people are instruments in the hands of the opposition, even when we challenge them to reveal their identities.

“We disassociate ourselves from these anonymous people as legitimate North-Central stakeholders. They and their sponsors are neither our members, nor are they interested parties in the joint effort to advance and develop the North-Central area.

The statement, which Zazzaga, an APC campaign council member for the 2023 election, signed, said, “We urge the well-meaning people of the region to ignore the attempts being made by these entities to cause confusion and sabotage the mandate of the North-Central Development Commission.”

The nominee works for Tinubu and is an APC member.
According to the APC Forum, Cyril Tsenyil’s selection as the North-Central Development Commission’s managing director was well-earned.

Together with his illustrious career as a professional accountant, the Forum observed that Tsenyil has shown steadfast loyalty and dedication to the APC by carrying out a number of duties and responsibilities that have greatly aided in the growth and accomplishments of the party.

Mr. Cyril Tsenyil has an APC card. He has contributed to the accomplishments of President Bola Tinubu’s government, and we fully trust him to fulfill the North-Central Development Commission’s mandate.

Many of our members have worked with him on various committees and can vouch for his skill, so we are aware of his capacity.

As those involved who advocated for the establishment of the North-Central Development Commission, we would want to state unequivocally that we support Mr. President’s selection of Cyril Tsenyil.

“We urge the North-Central community to provide him with all the assistance he requires to complete this crucial task. Following a first delay, this new commission was answered for the North-Central, and we encourage the local population to pray and contribute to its success,” the statement continued.

The APC Forum commended Tinubu for selecting Tsenyil as the Commission’s Managing Director, claiming that with Tsenyil spearheading the organization’s mission, the North-Central region is well-positioned to meet its pledge to cast six million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 election.

On May 8, 2025, President Bola Tinubu reportedly formally presented his candidates to the Senate for the positions of South West, North Central, and South-South development commission leaders.

A new Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination has been planned for the 379,997 applicants who were impacted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) blunder.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the examination body’s registrar, announced the rescheduling during a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, and it started Thursday morning.

Punch claims that one of the impacted applicants has been rescheduled to take her exam on Saturday, May 17, 2025, by 12 p.m. at one of the Lagos centers in Igando village, which is located in the Alimosho Local Government Area of the state, according to a reprinted exam slip that was seen on Thursday morning.

Oloyede reportedly acknowledged mistakes in the recently finished exam that affected 206,610 students in 65 locations in Lagos and 92 locations in the Owerri zone, totaling 173,387 candidates across the five South East states.

Oloyede acknowledged, “What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors.” “Even after we arranged all the equipment, mistakes persisted.”

“206,610 in 65 centers in Lagos and 92 centers in the Owerri zone comprising 173,387 candidates in the five states of the South East were affected,” he continued.

Oloyede, who accepted responsibility for what he called a “sabotage” of the 2025 UTME, stated that the Board will begin texting the impacted candidates on Thursday.

Affected candidates will now have the chance to repeat the test between May 16 and May 19, 2025, he added.

Solitary Confinement: DSS Rejects Allegations in Kanu’s Case

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied that it kept Nnamdi Kanu, the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in solitary confinement.
The DSS stated that Kanu, who is facing a seven-count terrorism and treasonable felony charge preferred by the federal government, is not being held in solitary confinement.
At the case’s resumed hearing on Wednesday, a DSS operative whose identity was protected for security reasons continued to testify as a witness before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Answering questions while being cross-examined by Kanu’s legal team, led by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, the operative, identified as PW-BBB, insisted that “solitary confinement is not a practice of the DSS.”

Agabi has raised worry over Kanu’s protracted arrest, stating that he was held in solitary confinement.

In his response, the witness denied the claim and informed the court that he was only an investigator, admitting that he was not Kanu’s “handler.”

Not deterred by the response, Agabi questioned the legality of Kanu’s continued detention, which he described as “cruel and inhuman treatment.”

Responding, the witness informed the court that he could not speak on Kanu’s psychological state because it was not part of his investigative duties.

19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin passed away, and the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is in sorrow.
According to reports, Opesusi committed suicide after getting a low mark on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The terrible death of Opesusi Faith Timilehin, 19, who purportedly committed suicide after being extremely disheartened by her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, has cast a pall over the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Faith, a Lagos resident originally from Ogun State’s Abeokuta, was determined to get a degree in microbiology. Her UTME score of 190, which was well below her expectations and, in her opinion, insufficient to gain admission to a university, caused her to become emotionally overwhelmed.

Faith has already attempted the UTME, according to a close family friend. The results of this year’s exam were especially heartbreaking because she had previously taken it and done better.

“She insisted that there was no hope for her future and that her prior score was higher,” the family friend revealed.

Faith apparently consumed a dangerous drug known locally as “Push Out” shortly after seeing her results on Monday. Medical staff failed to save her despite her rapid arrival at Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan. Not long after arriving, she was pronounced dead.
A bitter reminder of a desire that may have come true, an email notification offering her provisional admission to study microbiology arrived just 30 minutes after her death.

Shortly after her death was officially verified, the email arrived. In fact, admittance had been offered to her,” a family insider disclosed.

Locals recall her as kind, quiet, and hardworking, and her sudden death has left a void in the town.

Her distraught parents made the trip from Abeokuta to set up her funeral, while distraught neighbors and supporters expressed their annoyance with the testing process. The young woman’s dejection was attributed by many to the emotional pressure brought on by the general lackluster performance in this year’s UTME.

Senate Confirms President Tinubu’s INEC Commissioner Nominees

On Wednesday (today), the Nigerian Senate approved the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) selection of five resident electoral commissioners (RECs).
This confirmation was said to have occurred following the presentation of the INEC report by the Senate committee during today’s plenary session.
Chukwuemeka Obeziako, Umar Yusuf Garba, Sa’ad Umar Idris, Umar Mukhtar, and Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem are the people who have been verified. The 1999 Constitution’s modified clause 154(1) was followed in making these appointees.

The committee confirmed that the nominees met the requirements for their positions, under the direction of Senator Sharafadeen Alli of Oyo South. Each of the recently appointed RECs is expected to hold office for a period of five years.

The Senate received a letter from President Bola Tinubu on March 18 containing the nominees for the new RECs.

“In accordance with section 154(1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) constitution, I am pleased to submit to the Senate for confirmation the appointment of the following five (5) nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” the letter states.

“The distinguished Senate is invited to take note that I have approved the re-appointment of the Borno State commissioner for a second term, and this letter supersedes my previous one referred to as pres134/2 dated March 12th.”

Imo People Deserve Competence, Not Waste – PDP Faults Uzodinma’s N2.1 Billion Hajj Spending

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced the Hope Uzodimma-led government’s decision to spend an astounding ₦2.1 billion on Muslim pilgrimages and throw a party to celebrate the pilgrims’ airlift.
In regard to the airlift of the pilgrims, the party contended that there is no reason why the administration should spend taxpayer funds on a program that serves just 315 people and throw a lavish celebration to welcome Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In a statement released in Owerri by its spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, the PDP called the gesture a waste of money, particularly in light of the nation’s escalating security threats and economic suffering brought on by the country’s skyrocketing inflation rate.

He bemoaned the fact that it was particularly alarming and unsettling because it happened the day after armed attackers besieged the settlements of Umuna and Okigwe in Onuimo LGA, murdering at least 20 people, kidnapping others, and burning more than 22 vehicles.

He insisted that Uzodimma retire after accusing him of egregious ineptitude.

“We vehemently condemn the fact that Governor Uzodimma frequently acts as though he is not an Imolite, consistently reluctant to offer leadership or express empathy over the harrowing challenges of insecurity, poverty, and lack of basic amenities confronting the people of Imo State,” the statement says in part.

“Normally, the threat of suspected Fulani terrorists in NgorOkpala would have prompted the governor to act quickly, since the ruthless outlaws have made the area their stronghold.

In Okigwe, Orsu, Njaba, Onuimo, Oru West, and Orlu LGAs, criminal groups have taken over communities and are still terrorizing innocent inhabitants. This adds to the sad stories coming out of these areas.

“Imo cannot put up with a distant administration that doesn’t care about the suffering of its people and an inept governor. Therefore, the Imo PDP urges Ndi Imo to band together in order to hold this administration completely responsible at this crucial juncture in the history of our state.

Labour Party Chairman Abure Warns Peter Obi, Otti, Others of Looming Exposé

Julius Abure, Labour Party National Chairman, has issued a direct challenge to Peter Obi and other previous presidential contenders running on the party’s platform, demanding that they present documentation of any money allegedly handed to him or the party during the 2023 general elections.
Abure made the statement during a Symfoni video broadcast on Tuesday, where he addressed party members in the Federal Capital Territory and responded to ongoing corruption allegations against the party’s leadership.
Naija News believes that he categorically denied accepting any monies for personal use from any of the party’s candidates, including Obi.

“I want to challenge everyone who contested the election, from Peter Obi on down. “Let any of them come out and tell the world what they personally gave to me or the party,” Abure said.
“If they have evidence, let them to present it. If they don’t, let them remain silent indefinitely.”

He denounced what he called “cowardly whispers” of corruption and accused adversaries of using the media to avoid facing the party leadership directly.

Abure also hinted about hosting a world news conference, promising to publicly reveal members of the party’s opposition wing.

He claimed he remained silent out of a feeling of leadership and a desire for reconciliation, but cautioned that further provocation might force him to speak up.

“When people were discussing agents and money for agents, I remained silent. I feel it is my responsibility to manage the good, the terrible, and the ugly. “But now, some are going beyond their limits,” he said.

“I’m waiting for them to make their next move. When I open my mouth, wherever they go, they will smell like rotten eggs that no one wants.”

Abure also criticised Abia State Governor Alex Otti, the Labour Party’s only elected governor, accusing him of failing to contribute financially to the party during the elections.

“Look at the governor, who is moving like a cricket from one spot to another. “We didn’t get a dime from him,” he explained.

“When I saw him at Transcorp, he said, ‘Chairman, what can I do for you?’ I said nothing. “Use your funds for your election.”

He also noted that, other from a few MPs who gave little funds, the party has gotten no significant backing from elected members.

Abure denied allegations of financial misconduct, stating that the Labour Party leadership declined multi-billion naira bribes during the election season.

“We turned down offers due to the integrity of the positions we held. But today, these same people are attempting to kick us out,” he stated.

Soludo Under Fire from YPP Candidate on Education Issues

Sir Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressives Party’s (YPP) candidate for governor of Anambra state in the November 8, 2025, election, has criticized state governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for the state’s low student performance on the recently released National Examination Council (NECO) and Join Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams.

Cancel Chukwuma expressed regret that Anambra State, which had topped the national ranking for over ten years in a row, had unexpectedly dropped to 28th place in the most recent statistics.

“Today, we have seen a shocking decline in some of the key indicators of development in our State,” the YPP candidate for governor stated in a statement Tuesday.

Anambra State was formerly the leader in education for more than ten years, but the current administration has let this progress wane.

“Anambra State’s education rating has suffered greatly in recent years, to the point where our state now lags behind Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi States in terms of student performance.” With pupils earning five credits on their senior certificate exam, Anambra State was unable to make it onto regional and national lists of the best states during the current administration. This is the worst it has been in almost ten years.

“This is a fragmented promise. Now a gain has been lost. We as a people see it as a warning sign for our State and our children’s future,” Sir Chukwuma continued.

Chukwuma, however, promised that his administration will undo the regrettable event if elected to power.
