JUST IN: Suspected Ondo COVID-19 patient returns to hospital

Suspected Coronavirus (COVID-19) patient, who ran away from the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo, has returned to the hospital.

POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the suspected patient had caused panic among residents after leaving the hospital last Saturday.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Oluwole Ige, said the patient showed symptoms of the disease and the result was being expected when he ran away.

He said: “I can tell you that the patient has returned to the hospital. We are on top of the situation. He is still a suspected case.

“We are waiting for the result of the test conducted for him and two others.”

BREAKING: Osun records death of two Coronavirus patients

The Osun state government has announced its first death of Coronavirus.

The governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, confirmed the death of two patients in a press briefing in Government House, Osogbo on Sunday.

He said out of the 12 new cases of COVID-19 patients, two have died.”The casualties are from Ede and in Ile-Ife”, he said as he appealed with security officials not to compromise the lockdown order.

He also stressed the compulsory use of face masks across the state.

A South Korean Official has debunked rumours that North Korean leader, King Jong Un has died.

Foreign policy advisor to South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in, Chung-in Moon, has stated that the North Korea Supreme Leader is instead staying at his holiday resort on the North Korean coast.

“Our government position is firm…..Kim Jong-un is alive and well, ” Chung-in Moon told Fox News.

“He has been staying in the Wonsan area since April 13. No suspicious movements have so far been detected.”

It will be recalled that a Japanese media outlet claimed Kim was in a ‘vegetative state’ after he underwent heart surgery earlier in the month. The North Korean leader has not been seen publicly since April 11 when he led a meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party committee of policymakers, North Korean state media said.

Kogi Tribunal: Chambers of Smart Adeyemi’s Counsel Burgled by Hoodlums

Armed hoodlums early yesterday morning burgled the Chambers of Senator Smart Adeyemi’s lawyer, Dr. Oladapo Otitoju, located in the Mpape new layout, Abuja.

According to the lawyer, the armed gang, numbering about seven invaded the office at about midnight on yesterday and tied the security mam on duty while their operation lasted.

Dr. Otitoju is the counsel representing Senator Adeyemi at the Kogi State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Senator Dino Melaye is challenging the victory of Senator Adeyemi, at the November 16 and 30th Kogi West senatorial election.

Last week, Senator Melaye closed his case against Senator Adeyemi, after calling his witnesses who gave evidence at the tribunal.

Some of Senator Melaye’s witness had in their evidence told the tribunal that the election was free, fair and without violence.

The office of Dr. Otitoju was buggled three days after Senator Melaye closed his case before the tribunal against Senator Adeyemi.

According to Dr. Otitoju, in the process of forcing their way into his office, doors, windows and other valuables were destroyed.

He said unknown to the hoodlums, no document relating to the case before the tribunal was kept in the office.

”My office was attacked by suspected armed gang looking for documents of cases in court.

”Unknown to them, the documents and files of cases were not kept in the office”, he said.

The tribunal led by Justice Isa Sambo adjourned sitting last week Thursday, April 23 2019 to April 28, 2019 when the Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to open its case.

Apart from Senator Adeyemi, Senator Melaye had also joined INEC and the All Progressives Congress, APC in the petition before the tribunal as respondents.

Billionaire, Abdulsamad Rabiu donates additional N3.3 Billion to fight COVID-19

Billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Abdulsamad Rabiu has donated an additional N3.3 billion naira to fight the deadly COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the country. It will be recalled that the mogul has previously donated N1 billion.

POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that in a letter written to the Presidential Task-force on COVID-19, Rabiu announced the donation will be made via his BUA Foundation.

“Based on what is going on especially in Kano at the moment, we have decided in the immediate, to commit a 3.3 billion Naira grant to a working group made of the Presidential Taskforce, NCDC and other stakeholders in equipping 2 existing permanent facilities in Kano and Lagos States – whilst collaborating with the teaching hospitals in those states.”

“To this end, I am immediately committing and making available – through the BUA Foundation, two grants of Two Billion Naira for the Kano-based intervention and One Billion Naira for Lagos state being the two epicentres of this virus in Nigeria. A sum of N300million will also be made available immediately in cash to the Presidential Task Force to assist with logistical and operational activities of the task force. This grant is in addition to BUA’s earlier contributions to the private sector-led CA-COVID coalition and donations to other states.”

“The working group will be expected to use resources at its disposal to ensure these facilities – to be determined by the Working Group – are fully equipped in the shortest possible time. I believe this will effectively help to expand the scope of interventions, ongoing research, as well as support, already stretched medical facilities dedicated to this fight.” the letter read in part.

Professor Balarbe Maikaba of Faculty of Communication, Bayero University is dead. POLITICS NIGERIA learnt this from a statement signed by Dr Ashir T. Inua, a member of the Faculty.

He said the erudite professor of Mass Communication died today.

Dr Inua said, “Professor Balarabe Maikaba. We love you and Allah loves you more than we do. We lost you, Professor. May Allah forgive your sins and accept you as His obedient servant.”

It’s currently unclear if the Professor died from COVID-19 but a close source revealed he died after a brief illness.

Lagos Police arrests 39 Strippers for violating Lockdown [PHOTOS]

The Lagos state police command has announced the arrest of 39 Strippers/Clubbers for violating the lockdown currently in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Several others were arrested including bus drivers. This was contained in a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA by police spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana.

“On 21/4/2020 at about 2000hours, acting on information, operatives from Denton Police Station arrested 95 inter States travellers at Bhojson area, Ebute Metta in seven commercial buses with registration numbers LG 91 BGT, Lagos to Benue; BDA 690 XA, Lagos to Abuja; BGA 86 EA, Lagos to Abuja; LSD 459 XA, Lagos to Benue; LRN 105 YR, Lagos to Ilorin; LSD 81 XX, Lagos to Ilorin and BWR 975 PN, Lagos to Abuja. ”

“The buses were impounded, the drivers and passengers were charged to Mobile Court and sentenced accordingly. In addition, 211 violators of lockdown order were arrested in different parts of the State and also charged to Court.”

“On 23/4/2020 at about 2230hrs, operatives from Maroko Police Station arrested 10 suspects for organising a party at Lekki Garden. The suspects were arraigned in Court on three counts charges and found guilty as charged. They were sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and community service, to run concurrently. Similarly, 121 violators of lockdown order were arrested in different parts of Lagos State and charged to Court. They were awarded fines ranging from #5000 and #10,000 and two hours community services. ”

“On 24/4/2020 at about 0130hours, acting on credible intelligence, operatives from Idimu Police Station arrested 39 suspects in a hotel at Idimu, for clubbing and striptease. This is in total violation of the lockdown order and social distancing regulations. Also, on 24/4/2020 at about 2030hours, Enforcement team from the Rapid Response Squad arrested one Suleiman Abubakar, the Imam of Sheik Central Mosque, Mile 12 Ketu for holding evening prayers (Maghrib and Isha prayers) in the Mosque with a large number of worshippers in violation of the social distancing regulations. A total of 288 violators of the lockdown order were over the weekend, arrested in different parts of the State.”

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc calls on residents to continue to be law-abiding, especially during this lockdown period. He warns against spreading fake news and recycling old videos on social media with new captions that suggest that the incidents happened during the lockdown period in Lagos, mainly to create panic. The Command is investigating sources of such mischievous messages with a view of bringing the perpetrators to Justice.” the statement read.

Pastor Adeboye tells Nigerians what to do as Coronavirus cases rise

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised Nigerians to stay at home if they do not want to contract  COVID-19.

Adeboye, in a sermon on Sunday, also urged Nigerians to obey all the rules and regulations put in place by the government in order to curb the spread of the dreaded virus.

He said, “There are categories of power. There is political power. Ecclesiastes 8:4 says where the word of a king is, there is power. You put it in the modern language, where the word of the President is, there is power.

“If you don’t believe that, just check what is happening now. The President sits in his house and makes a decree or pronouncement, everybody stay at home, and if you love yourself, stay at home.”

ISWAP: Again Nigerian military kills scores of terrorists in air strikes in Northeast

Several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have been killed in a sustained air strikes by the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE on Saturday, at Kolloram on the fringes of the Lake Chad in Borno State.

The operation the military say, was conducted based on credible intelligence reports indicating that some of the ISWAP leaders and fighters had converged in the settlement for a meeting.

Accordingly, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and surveillance aircraft were scrambled to attack the location. Overhead the target area, the terrorists were seen moving towards the edges of the settlement and were engaged, leading to neutralization of several of them. The few survivors were taken out in subsequent passes as the jets strafed the area.

Coordinator of Defence Media Operations Major General John Enenche in a statement said: “The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the North East, will intensify offensive operations against the enemies of our Nation.”

BREAKING: Suspected killer of Funke Olakunrin tests positive for COVID-19

One of the suspected killers of Funke Olakunrin, Pa Fasoranti’s daughter, has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This is coming barely 24 hours after the state confirmed its fourth case on Saturday. POLITICS NIGERIA reported that he was a police operative who tested for the virus in Lagos and travelled to the state last week.

As at the time of filing this report, Nigeria has recorded 1,182 cases of the pandemic in 27 states and the FCT.

On Sunday morning, the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, disclosed this on social media.

He said, “We have confirmed two other cases in Ondo state. One of the cases involves one of the recently arraigned suspects in the murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, Pa Fasoranti’s Daughter.”

This paper earlier reported the arrest and arraignment of the suspected murderers of the daughter of the Afenifere’s leader.

Mr Akeredolu noted that the Commissioner of police has been informed and the line tracing of police officers and others in the SARs facility where he was kept has started and their specimens are being collected.”

The suspect has been isolated from others and will be moved to the IDH for treatment. The commissioner of police has assured the state that there will be adequate security around the IDH premises to prevent his escape and while on treatment, he will be manacled to the bed,” he added.
