#EndSARS: Why I won’t sue CNN like Jack – Adamu Garba

0

A former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba,  says he would have sued American news-based pay television channel, CNN had it instigated Nigerians with its report on the EndSARS protest.

CNN, on Wednesday, released its report on the shooting at Lekki Toll Gate on October 20.

And Garba, who had previously instituted a $1 billion lawsuit against Twitter and its founder, Jack Dorsey, at the Federal High Court Abuja, over his role in the #EndSARS protests which led to violence across the country, said CNN was only doing its job.

In a post on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, the tech-entrepreneur said CNN’s report isn’t conclusive.

“I would have sued CNN if they instigated or sponsored people of Nigeria against its Govt. But one thing is clear,” he wrote.

“CNN is doing its job: Investigative & not “Conclusive” reporting. Unlike Jack who interfered directly While you enjoy the fleet, wait for response from authorities.”

Insecurity: Troops Clear Bandits’ Camp, Eliminate Scores Along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway

The Land and Air Components of Operation THUNDER STRIKE have killed scores of armed bandits in a joint offensive operation to clear identified bandits’ camp around Kuku area of Kagarko Local Government Area along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway axis of Kaduna State.

The operation according to the Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche was executed yesterday, 17 November 2020, on the heels of credible Human Intelligence reports indicating that a cluster of huts and other structures at the location served as hideout for a notorious bandits’ leader, named “Major”, along with his fighters.

”The first wave of the Air Component’s air strikes, which involved 6 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft undertaking 5 missions in a total of 13 sorties, commenced at dawn and targeted the cluster of huts housing “Major”. The attack aircraft hit some of the target structures and neutralized some of the bandits.

”The second wave of attacks was executed by NAF helicopter gunships which, while continuing to engage the bandits’ location, also provided close air support to the Land Component as they advanced from Kagarko via Kuku into the bandits’ enclave. This paved way for the ground troops to overrun and destroy the camp without effective resistance from the bandits.

”A NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft remained airborne providing situational awareness for the troops throughout the operation.” Enenche added.

Umahi defected to APC long ago – Fayose

0

A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) a long time ago.

Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the move as a reflection of the type of leadership Nigeria parades.

Umahi, who once served as the chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi, deputy governor of the state between 2011 to 2015 and the state governor from 2015 till date under the platform of the party, on Tuesday defected to the ruling APC.

He claimed he dumped the PDP due to alleged injustice being meted to the South-East by the opposition party.

However, in a post on his Twitter handle, @GovAyoFayose, on Wednesday, the former Ekiti State governor wrote:

“Gov Umahi defected to APC long ago before this unjustifiable move, which clearly has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation.

“This is a reflection of the type of leadership our country parades.

“Though his action dampens hope for liberation, but I’m sure Nigerians will laugh last because sometimes, it will appear to have gotten so bad before it will begin to get better.”

A man has been arrested in Delta State for allegedly holding his wife in a cage for four years, subjecting her to dehumanising conditions.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly impregnated her three times while she was in bondage at their home in Orerokpe.

The couple have eight children together.

The incident got to the police after it was reported to a charity organisation Behind Bars Defenders.

Director-general of the organisation Harrison Gwamnishu said the suspect accused his wife of being behind his financial woes.

“She was peeing and defecating in the same room where he fed her bread. Not the regular sweetened bread though. She gave the said man eight children, three of which she had while she was locked up by him in Orerokpe community,” she told the news media.

Delta police spokesperson Onome Onovwakpoyeya also confirmed the incident.

“The DPO said the man alleged that his wife had a mental problem and that she is a witch. He said he took her to her family but they rejected her. He said he equally took her to several herbalist homes but after some time, he had to take her back home,” Onovwakpoyeya said.

‘My friend Umahi wants to be president’ — Wike

0

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the defection of his Ebonyi State counterpart, David Umahi did not come to him as a surprise adding that the governor had been fraternizing with members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for some time before he eventually jumped ship.

The Rivers State governor, however, faulted Umahi’s claim of injustice meted out to the people from the South-East zone for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party noting that the Ebonyi governor defected to the APC to pursue a presidential bid.

Wike said this in a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Kelvin Ebiri, on Monday

Umahi had, at a media briefing in Abakaliki on Tuesday, said his decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, was premised on his conviction that the All Progressives Congress was more amenable to working in the interest of the South East zone.

Umahi, explained that he was leaving the PDP because of the injustice meted out to the people of the zone despite several years of loyalty.

Wike said, “My friend, Umahi wants to be president. There is no problem about that. You have a right to be president. Nobody can stop you. You are educated. You have been a governor for two terms, so you are qualified to say I want to be president of Nigeria.

“My reaction to Governor Umahi’s defection is not that he has no right to defect, but to say he is defecting because of injustice meted to the South-East that is insulting to the South-East.”

While demanding that Umahi should retract his alleged false claims against the PDP, Wike argued that under the PDP, the South-East had over the years produced Senate Presidents; National Vice Chairman of the PDP and Secretary to the Federal Government.

He urged the PDP National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee to take decisive steps to ensure that PDP does not die in Ebonyi State.

But Umahi had equally dismissed speculations that he was dumping the PDP to pursue a presidential ambition.

Umahi said, “I have been a successful governor for two terms and a successful business man in business, where I also have a calling.

“I am not driven by selfish interests but because we need to protest against marginalisation. We have benefited more from the APC government. I didn’t start this protest today. I have no regrets. In life, you have to be courageous.

“The South-East has remained faithful to PDP, voted for its candidates yet had not been considered fairly in Nigerian polity. The APC is amenable working for the South-East zone than the PDP.”

The governor also faulted claims made by the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jubrin, that the South-East never requested for the party’s presidential ticket.

Umahi saud contrary to Jibrin’s claims, over 50 organisations, the Ebonyi Assembly, as well as the PDP State Working Committee had demanded that the position should be zoned to the South-East.

According to him, the quest for the emergence of a President of Igbo extraction come 2023, was in the interest of Nigeria’s peace and progress.

We’re verifying alleged abduction of 12 officers — NPF

0

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday said that the reported abduction of 12 police officers on an official assignment by gunmen, is being verified.

The officers, who are of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), were said to be on their way to Zamfara from Borno to conduct a special operation when the kidnappers waylaid them.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded a N10 million ransom.

But the Force Headquarters said that it is making efforts to verify the kidnap claim while the Borno State Police Command denied that any officer was missing from the command.

A BBC report said the abduction took place 12 days ago but came to light yesterday.

A wife of one of the kidnapped officers said she did not hear from her husband for three days and decided to seek further information from a police barracks in Borno where she learnt about the abduction.

She was quoted as saying that her husband later called and asked her to raise ransom money by selling their home.

“He called me on Wednesday and told me that he was in the hands of the kidnappers,” she said.

She stated that her husband told her that if she failed to raise at least N1 million, “there will be trouble.”

She added that a police officer subsequently called her to request that she should raise N800, 000 for his release.

“I can’t tell you that I have any other information. We are in a state of frustration,” she said.

But the Force Headquarters said it is verifying the kidnap claim.

“We are aware but we are trying to verify that the kidnap took place,” Deputy Force Public Relations Officer and Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Aremu Adeniran, said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has wished Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, well following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party, in a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Tuesday, also dissolved the state’s executive committees as well as the South-East Zonal Caretaker Committee.

Ologbondiyan said: “The PDP says that the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi, left our party for personal reasons, which Nigerians will come to know at the fullness of time.

“Our party thanks Governor Umahi for services rendered to the people of Ebonyi State, as the State Chairman of Ebonyi PDP (2003 to 2007); deputy governor of Ebonyi State (2007 to 2015) and two-term governor of Ebonyi (2015 till date), all elected on the platform of the PDP.

“As we wish Governor Umahi all the best in his adventure, we call on the members of our party to remain calm and committed to the ideals of our party as no individual is bigger than the PDP.”

“These decisions are pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC by the PDP Constitution.”
