Unmasking the Evil Formation of an Individual, Independent Parallel Panel of Enquiry

0

By Nwambu Gabriel

It is now in public domain that some individuals have orchestrated the setting up
of a private, individual, independent, and parallel Panel of Enquiry named the
Alliance for Survival of COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB). This panel has askedNigerians to submit complaints of human right violations encountered, witnessedor heard during the #ENDSARS protest. In a statement made available by ASCABtitled “Call for complaints of Human Rights Violations by Police, Military, and other Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria”, asked Nigerians to come forward to submit reports of human rights violations linked to the #ENDSARS.

There were no restrictions for victims who had already submitted to panels set up by the
government since according to ASCAB, outcomes and investigations might differ
in form and content. The panel is to receive complaints from the general public on
violations before, during and after the #ENDSARS protest across Nigeria.
However, our coalition has observed with dismay that these are the same
functions the judicial panel of enquiry set up by government is performing. The
duties as performed by the various judicial panels of enquiry are with utmost
integrity and credibility as fresh facts and evidences are emerging. If we may ask;
what is then the interest of the pioneers of this individual, independent parallel
panel of enquiry?

Intelligence report has shown that Amnesty International and Transparency
International has released the sum of $750,000 US dollars. This money is paid to a
foreign account and more would be released for this parallel panel progresses
provided that their clandestine aim is achieved.
The CNN, a news channel that has never seen anything good or reasonable in
Nigeria is waiting to give coverage to this independent individual body of enquiry.
This panel targets at bringing the entire Police, Military and Para Military
organizations in Nigeria to disrepute by presenting them to be as murderous as
ever in the world with an aim of blackmailing some targeted officers with a view
to prosecuting them at the ICC.

For the records, as civil society organizations domicile in Nigeria, it is our civic
responsibility to lay distinctions between fiction and facts, false and truth,
blackmail and reality. While we believe that we have some bad eggs within the
police, military and other law enforcement agencies, just like any other part of the
world as we have seen in the case of George Floyd in the US, an advanced
democratic nation of the world and a defender of human rights across the globe.
Nigeria we know is an evolving democratic nation. Government is also seen to be
committed to ensuring that perpetrators of heinous crimes or human rights
violators are brought to justice. The disbandment of the SARS is evident.
Again, the #ENDSARS came with varying degrees of fatalities.
Recent activities by unscrupulous elements have shown their desire to acquire
arms and ammunitions.

The Nigerian Police lost 37 officers and men who are performing their
constitutional duties. These officers and men are someone’s father, someone’s
mother, someone’s husband, someone’s wife, etc. We saw in video clips how
police stations were ransacked, weapons looted, policemen beaten to death and
their remains roasted and eaten as seen in OGIDI, Anambra state by the so-called
#ENDSARS protesters. Indeed, cannibalism was at play. Once again, this heinous
and barbaric act was under reported.

Nigerian Army lost 7 soldiers and 10 riffles of AK-47 to #ENDSARS protest. But
sadly in Nigeria, deaths recorded by the Nigerian Police, Military, etc. are analyzed
in a most lopsided manner. The deaths are perceived as normal since they are
personnel of the Armed Forces or law enforcement agencies. Wrong perception.
The #ENDSARS protesters burnt down 205 police stations. Some fire arms and
police uniforms were looted by criminals. With this, crime may likely take an
alarming dimension as an upsurge in criminal activity is expected to skyrocket.
A total of 196 policemen were injured,164 police vehicles were destroyed. The
Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Customs Service and the
Nigerian Immigration Service lost infrastructures, equipment and other valuables
to the attack of hoodlums during the crises.

The Correctional Service Medium Security custodial centres in six states (Edo,
Lagos, Abia, Delta, Ondo and Ebonyi) were attacked with 1,957 inmates set free
and 31 members of staff injured. A total of 57 civilians were also killed during the
#ENDSARS protest.
Over 248 private stores owned by private individuals were looted. These are
people who are not connected directly with government nor the #ENDSARS
agitation. These are small and medium scale businesses employing thousands of
youths. Today, these businesses are in comatose with no possible means of
revival in an economy that has moved into recession following the global
pandemic and depression. The worse in 30 years.

Also, 71 public warehouses were looted. Food and materials meant for the
palliatives and treatment of covid 19 patients were stored in these warehouses.
Sadly, we saw individuals who made away with several bags of food stuffs. These
are people agitating to right the wrongs in the society as the #ENDSARS
supposedly depicts. But in an ideal situation, we rather opine that such looters
should also show some sign of exemplary leadership by taking just one (1) bag of
rice or semovita each as the case may be while he gives way for other persons to
get one bag as well. Ironically, in the video clips, we saw survival of the fittest at
play. We saw greed. We saw hooliganism at play.

The jail brake in Benin City, Edo state was even more scaring. Hoodlums under the
#ENDSARS cover besieged the reformation Centre shooting sporadically with
several casualties. Thirteen (13) states and the FCT were worse hit by the
#ENDSARS devastation. These includes: Lagos, Edo, Delta, Oyo, Kano, Plateau,
Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Rivers, Abia, Imo, Ekiti state and the FCT.
A total of 205 critical national security assets, corporate facilities and private
property were attacked, burnt or vandalized.

Several Banks were also looted across the nation. In Enugu state, it has been
reported that 3 branches of First Bank were vandalized and some money carted
away by #ENDSARS protesters. The protesters attacked several ATM machines in
Kano state. In Broad street, Marina, Lagos state, a new generation bank was
attacked and large unspecified sums of money carted away by protesters.
Lagos was the worst hit with over 200 BRT buses and station razed down by fire.
Over one Trillion Naira is required to fix the damaged infrastructure in Lagos state
alone in a country with 98 million people living within the extreme poverty. This is
also a country with a high unemployment rate. Now the funds that would have
been used to build industries which in turn would get a whole number of youths
off the street would be used to replace these critical national infrastructures first,
without which the state cannot function.

So any person or group of persons aiding, abating, sponsoring the formation of
individual, independent panel of enquiry which is parallel to the ones already
formed by government is grossly unpatriotic and does not have the interest of
this great nation at heart. We believe that this panel is orchestrated, it has
ulterior mission and prototype of targeted organizations and individuals to tarnish
their image and witch- hunt them. The panel seems to be replicating the script
written by Amnesty International and Transparency International. Of course, most
of these people have dual citizenship. So they can afford to burn down the
country and move to some other nation to live. But for some of us, our lives begin
and ends with Nigeria. We must therefore be warrying of these merchants of
destruction. We call on Nigerians to be watchful.
As members of the fourth realm, our coalition hereby disassociate ourselves from
this dastardly act, obviously inimical to the co-existence of this at great nation.

A political obituary for Donald Trump

0

To his supporters, his shamelessness became a badge of honesty and strength. They grasped the message that they, too, could say whatever they wanted without apology. To his opponents, fighting by the rules—even in as small a way as calling him “President Trump”—seemed like a sucker’s game. So the level of American political language was everywhere dragged down, leaving a gaping shame deficit.

To  assess the legacy of Donald Trump’s presidency, start by quantifying it. Since last February, more than a quarter of a million Americans have died from COVID-19— a fifth of the world’s deaths from the disease, the highest number of any country. In the three years before the pandemic, 2.3 million Americans lost their health insurance, accounting for up to 10,000 “excess deaths”; millions more lost coverage during the pandemic.

The United States’ score on the human-rights organization Freedom House’s annual index dropped from 90 out of 100 under President Barack Obama to 86 under Trump, below that of Greece and Mauritius. Trump withdrew the U.S. from 13 international organisations, agreements, and treaties. The number of refugees admitted into the country annually fell from 85,000 to 12,000. About 400 miles of barrier were built along the southern border. The whereabouts of the parents of 666 children seized at the border by U.S. officials remain unknown.

Trump reversed 80 environmental rules and regulations. He appointed more than 220 judges to the federal bench, including three to the Supreme Court—24 percent female, 4 percent Black, and 100 percent conservative, with more rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Association than under any other president in the past half century.

The national debt increased by $7 trillion, or 37 percent. In Trump’s last year, the trade deficit was on track to exceed $600 billion, the largest gap since 2008. Trump signed just one major piece of legislation, the 2017 tax law, which, according to one study, for the first time brought the total tax rate of the wealthiest 400 Americans below that of every other income group. In Trump’s first year as president, he paid $750 in taxes. While he was in office, taxpayers and campaign donors handed over at least $8 million to his family business.

AMERICA under Trump became less free, less equal, more divided, more alone, deeper in debt, swampier, dirtier, meaner, sicker, and deader. It also became more delusional. No number from Trump’s years in power will be more lastingly destructive than his 25,000 false or misleading statements. Super-spread by social media and cable news, they contaminated the minds of tens of millions of people. Trump’s lies will linger for years, poisoning the atmosphere like radioactive dust.

Presidents lie routinely, about everything from war to sex to their health. When the lies are consequential enough, they have a corrosive effect on democracy. Lyndon B. Johnson deceived Americans about the Gulf of Tonkin incident and everything else concerning the Vietnam War. Richard Nixon’s lifelong habit of prevaricating gave him the nickname “Tricky Dick.” After Vietnam and Watergate, Americans never fully recovered their trust in government. But these cases of presidential lying came from a time when the purpose was limited and rational: to cover up a scandal, make a disaster disappear, mislead the public in service of a particular goal. In a sense, Americans expected a degree of fabrication from their leaders. After Jimmy Carter, in his 1976 campaign, promised, “I’ll never lie to you,” and then pretty much kept his word, voters sent him back to Georgia. Ronald Reagan’s gauzy fictions were far more popular.

Trump’s lies were different. They belonged to the postmodern era. They were assaults against not this or that fact, but reality itself. They spread beyond public policy to invade private life, clouding the mental faculties of everyone who had to breathe his air, dissolving the very distinction between truth and falsehood. Their purpose was never the conventional desire to conceal something shameful from the public. He was stunningly forthright about things that other presidents would have gone to great lengths to keep secret: his true feelings about Senator John McCain and other war heroes; his eagerness to get rid of disloyal underlings; his desire for law enforcement to protect his friends and hurt his enemies; his effort to extort a foreign leader for dirt on a political adversary; his affection for Kim Jong Un and admiration for Vladimir Putin; his positive view of white nationalists; his hostility toward racial and religious minorities; and his contempt for women.

The most mendacious of Trump’s predecessors would have been careful to limit these thoughts to private recording systems. Trump spoke them openly, not because he couldn’t control his impulses, but intentionally, even systematically, in order to demolish the norms that would otherwise have constrained his power.

Trump’s barrage of falsehoods — as many as 50 daily in the last fevered months of the 2020 campaign—complemented his unconcealed brutality. Lying was another variety of shamelessness. Just as he said aloud what he was supposed to keep to himself, he lied again and again about matters of settled fact—the more brazen and frequent the lie, the better. Two days after the polls closed, with the returns showing him almost certain to lose, Trump stood at the White House podium and declared himself the winner of an election that his opponent was trying to steal.

This crowning conspiracy theory of Trump’s presidency activated his entitled children, compliant staff, and sycophants in Congress and the media to issue dozens of statements declaring that the election was fraudulent. Following the mechanism of every big lie of the Trump years, the Republican Party establishment fell in line. Within a week of Election Day, false claims of voter fraud in swing states had received almost 5 million mentions in the press and on social media. In one poll, 70 percent of Republican voters concluded that the election hadn’t been free or fair.

So a stab-in-the-back narrative was buried in the minds of millions of Americans, where it burns away, as imperishable as a carbon isotope, consuming whatever is left of their trust in democratic institutions and values. This narrative will widen the gap between Trump believers and their compatriots who might live in the same town, but a different universe. And that was Trump’s purpose—to keep us locked in a mental prison where reality was unknowable so that he could go on wielding power, whether in or out of office, including the power to destroy.

For his opponents, the lies were intended to be profoundly demoralising. Neither counting them nor checking facts nor debunking conspiracies made any difference. Trump demonstrated again and again that the truth doesn’t matter. In rational people this provoked incredulity, outrage, exhaustion, and finally an impulse to crawl away and abandon the field of politics to the fantasists.

For believers, the consequences were worse. They surrendered the ability to make basic judgments about facts, exiling themselves from the common framework of self-government. They became litter swirling in the wind of any preposterous claim that blew from @realDonaldTrump. Truth was whatever made the world whole again by hurting their enemies — the more far-fetched, the more potent and thrilling. After the election, as charges of voter fraud began to pile up, Matthew Sheffield, a reformed right-wing media activist, tweeted: “Truth for conservative journalists is anything that harms ‘the left.’ It doesn’t even have to be a fact. Trump’s numerous lies about any subject under the sun are thus justified because his deceptions point to a larger truth: that liberals are evil.”

How did half the country—practical, hands-on, self-reliant Americans, still balancing family budgets and following complex repair manuals — slip into such cognitive decline when it came to politics? Blaming ignorance or stupidity would be a mistake. You have to summon an act of will, a certain energy and imagination, to replace truth with the authority of a con man like Trump. Hannah Arendt, in The Origins of Totalitarianism, describes the susceptibility to propaganda of the atomized modern masses, “obsessed by a desire to escape from reality because in their essential homelessness they can no longer bear its accidental, incomprehensible aspects.” They seek refuge in “a man-made pattern of relative consistency” that bears little relation to reality. Though the U.S. is still a democratic republic, not a totalitarian regime, and Trump was an all-American demagogue, not a fascist dictator, his followers abandoned common sense and found their guide to the world in him. Defeat won’t change that.

Trump damaged the rest of us, too. He got as far as he did by appealing to the perennial hostility of popular masses toward elites. In a democracy, who gets to say what is true — the experts or the people? The historian Sophia Rosenfeld, author of Democracy and Truth, traces this conflict back to the Enlightenment, when modern democracy overthrew the authority of kings and priests: “The ideal of the democratic truth process has been threatened repeatedly ever since the late eighteenth century by the efforts of one or the other of these epistemic cohorts, expert or popular, to monopolise it.”

Monopoly of public policy by experts — trade negotiators, government bureaucrats, think tankers, professors, journalists—helped create the populist backlash that empowered Trump. His reign of lies drove educated Americans to place their faith, and even their identity, all the more certainly in experts, who didn’t always deserve it (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, election pollsters). The war between populists and experts relieved both sides of the democratic imperative to persuade. The standoff turned them into caricatures.

Trump’s legacy includes an extremist Republican Party that tries to hold on to power by flagrantly undemocratic means, and an opposition pushed toward its own version of extremism. He leaves behind a society in which the bonds of trust are degraded, in which his example licenses everyone to cheat on taxes and mock affliction. Many of his policies can be reversed or mitigated. It will be much harder to clear our minds of his lies and restore the shared understanding of reality — the agreement, however inconvenient, that A is A and not B—on which a democracy depends.

But we now have the chance, because two events in Trump’s last year in office broke the spell of his sinister perversion of the truth. The first was the coronavirus. The beginning of the end of Trump’s presidency arrived on March 11, 2020, when he addressed the nation for the first time on the subject of the pandemic and showed himself to be completely out of his depth. The virus was a fact that Trump couldn’t lie into oblivion or forge into a political weapon—it was too personal and frightening, too real. As hundreds of thousands of Americans died, many of them needlessly, and the administration flailed between fantasy, partisan incitement, and criminal negligence, a crucial number of Americans realized that Trump’s lies could get someone they love killed.

The second event came on November 3. For months Trump had tried frantically to destroy Americans’ trust in the election — the essence of the democratic system, the one lever of power that belongs undeniably to the people. His effort consisted of nonstop lies about the fraudulence of mail-in ballots. But the ballots flooded into election offices, and people lined up before dawn on the first day of early voting, and some of them waited 10 hours to vote, and by the end of Election Day, despite the soaring threat of the virus, more than 150 million Americans had cast ballots — the highest turnout rate since at least 1900.

The defeated president tried again to soil our faith, by taking away our votes. The election didn’t end his lies — nothing will — or the deeper conflicts that the lies revealed. But we learned that we still want democracy. This, too, is the legacy of Donald Trump.

NATIONAL: We froze accounts of EndSARS campaigners in error — CJ

0

The Chief Judge of a Federal High Court in Abuja, John Tsoho, said on Tuesday that the court did not freeze the accounts of #EndSARS promoters but those of corporate bodies under doubt of illegal tax avoidance.

Speaking at a special court session to mark the beginning of the 2020 to 2021 legal year of the court, Justice Tsoho said that those who made such allegations of the court freezing the accounts of #EndSars protesters were being uncharitable to the court.

According to him, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) approached the court seeking an order to freeze certain accounts of corporate bodies and names of individuals were not attached to the applications.

“I assigned those cases and no individual’s name was mentioned,” Tsoho said.

“Three months before the protest, the CBN kept bringing applications, almost in their hundreds, based on what they call deliberate resolve to ruin the economy through money laundering.”

“So if it was the #EndSARS people that were involved in the activity undercover, then it is unfortunate for people to begin to call and vilify the court, making damaging allegations against the court,” he added.

He maintained that if such steps had not been taken, the Nigerian economy would have collapsed.

He added that if any of the accounts belonged to any #EndSars protester, it was a mere coincidence.

In  the wake of the widespread EndSARS protest, the CBN governor Godwin Emefiele obtained an ex-parte order from the Abuja Division of the federal high court to freeze the accounts of 19 individuals linked to #EndSARS protests and Gatefield Nigeria Limited, a company that sponsored freelance journalists to cover the #EndSARS protests.

The government action was largely viewed as a deliberate crackdown on the protesters. There are also issues around the legality of the action as the central banker was said to have affected the restriction on the affected accounts before obtaining the order.

But early this month again, the CBN begged the court not to unfreeze the accounts of #EndSARS campaigners because they were still under probe for terrorism financing.

The CBN said this in a counter-affidavit in opposition to a motion on notice filed by Gatefield Nigeria Limited

Tsoho’s assertion could further raise the controversy on a matter that has already drawn condemnation locally and internationally.

‘Pray for Buhari’, Umahi urges Nigerians

0

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has urged Nigerians to continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Umahi stated this in Abakaliki, on Tuesday, while addressing party supporters on how to distribute fresh palliatives to the people of the state, noting that he was committed to the development of Ebonyi irrespective of party affiliations.

He maintained that he defected to APC because of the injustice the PDP meted to the Southeast in spite of the support the zone had given the party, adding that he would continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari.

His words: “I want to tell you that we must continue to pray for our President, when people said PDP made me, I asked whether it is man that makes a party or party that makes man.”

“When I left, I asked my detractors whether I took anything from the party. I also asked them if I am the only governor who was in PDP.”

Further justifying his decision, he said people should remember that Ebonyi State saw more development under President Buhari’s government, adding: “So, you cannot say that Ebonyi developed under PDP because all that you have seen here are the result of the support Mr. President gave to all the states and ours.”

Tinubu’s loyalists inaugurate 2023 campaign movement in Ibadan

0

Former senators, political leaders and loyalists of former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, stormed Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to launch a campaign movement, tagged: “The South West Agenda (SWAGA ‘23),” for him ahead of the 2023 presidency contest.

The loyalists of Tinubu, who said that they launched the campaign movement in a bid to support his candidature, said that the former governor towered over others who may be interested in the bid.

It would be recalled that the loyalists had on Monday visited the palaces of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyeml III to seek the support of the monarchs for Tinubu’s candidature.

Those present at the launch included Dayo Adeyeye, who is the chairman of the planning committee, Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, Oyetunji Ojo, Bosun Oladele, Rotimi Makinde, Kafilat Ogbara, Toba Oke, Deji Jakande, Gboyega Okegbemi and immediate past Secretary to Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde.

Others were Suraj Adekunbi, Prof. Abideen Olaiya and politicians from both the southern and northern parts of the country.

In a welcome address, Adeyeye pointed out that Tinubu towered above others jostling to occupy the coveted office, saying that Tinubu is the most experienced politician in the country to succeed Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

He maintained that 2023 election was already on the front burner of the national discourse.

“We are gathered here today to make our own contributions to the arduous and crucial task of helping to shape the future direction of our beloved country, Nigeria.

“For the discerning mind, 2023 election is already on the front-burner of the national discourse. The discussion right now everywhere in the country is about what should and should not happen in 2023. That being the case, it is imperative that we should be part of these national discussion and activities.

Also, a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, said Tinubu remained the best man for the plum job, having garnered experiences and built men while in the saddle as governor of Lagos State.

Akanbi said the Third Republic senator remained the most qualified political leader for the number one office in the land, saying that he possessed the intellectual capacity and good character.

The Federal Government has ordered the mobile telecommunication operators (telcos) to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without valid National Identification Numbers (NINs) after December 30.

The Spokesman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Ikechukwu Adinde, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the SIM update exercise would take place from December 16 to December 30.

According to him, the decision was taken at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, in Abuja.

Adinde added that the meeting was convened by the minister following an earlier directive on the suspension of new SIM registration by network operators.

He said the need to consolidate on the success of last year’s SIM registration audit and improve the performance of operators in the sector was exhaustively discussed at the meeting.

The NCC spokesman said: “Operators have been directed to require all their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number to update SIM registration records.

“The submission of NIN by subscribers will take place within two weeks, from December 16, 2020, to December 30, 2020. After the deadline, all SIMs without NINs are to be blocked from the networks.

CJN not positive for Covid-19 – Supreme Court

0

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed  the report that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, had tested positive for COVID-19.

The CJN, who was absent at the inauguration of 72 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria held in Abuja on Tuesday, was reported to have contracted the virus and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In Justice Mohammed’s absence, the event was presided over by the highest-ranked Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour.

The Director of Information at the apex court, Dr. Festus Akande, who reacted to the claim in a statement, said no medical report has been made available indicating that Justice Mohammed had tested positive for COVID-19.

The spokesman had in an earlier statement dismissed a report that the CJN was critically sick.

He said: “In furtherance to the press statement earlier issued, I wish to state categorically clear that there is no medical report so far made available by anybody indicating that the Hon. CJN has tested positive for COVID-19

“Those peddling the rumour should go a step further to confirm from their sources and equally obtain the copy of whatever laboratory test result they are relying on.

“As of this moment of issuing this statement, no one has so far shown me or any other person in Supreme Court a copy of the test result they are referring to in the report.”

A justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, had said at the event that the CJN tested positive for the virus during the commissioning of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria headquarters in Abuja.

Exclusive: How Amnesty, Transparency paid over 2billion to CSOs to blackmail Nigeria Armed forces

0

By Gabriel Amedu

Fresh facts have emerged on how Amnesty and Transparency International forged an alliance towards undermining the Nigerian Military. According to investigative findings, the plot was hatched by Amnesty International, while Transparency International was conscripted to give the plot the needed bite to succeed.

According to top security sources, the objective of Amnesty and Transparency International was to ensure that civil society groups in Nigeria are the face of the slander campaign while the real promoters are at the background monitoring events as they unfold.

“I can tell you that lots of monies exchanged hands. The exact figure I can’t quote, but it runs into billions of naira and traceable to Amnesty International and Transparency International. Some select lawyers were paid handsomely from the pool of funds, and they are meant to recruit willing collaborators in the plot to discredit the Nigerian Military.

Another source who pleaded anonymity stated that some Civil Society Organizations were recruited to issue press statements and conferences disparaging the Nigerian Military and accusing it of engaging in human rights violations in its operations in North-East Nigeria and other parts of the country.

“If you have observed that in the past months, some Civil Society Organizations have been very vocal in criticism of the Nigerian Military especially during and after the EndSARS protest across the country. The arrowhead of the group is a respected Nigerian lawyer and also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.”

“This lawyer was greased with a hefty sum of monies to lead the charge against the Nigerian Military and as such he has been very prominent in the media making quite weighty allegations against the Nigerian Military most of which were dictated and not a function of the reality on the ground.”

In a related development, investigative findings revealed that there is a grand plot by some vested interest to bring about political instability in Nigeria beginning from April 2021, and as such the Nigerian Military have been identified as a potential stumbling block to the actualization of the agenda, which was reliably gathered, is sponsored by Amnesty and Transparency International.

According to credible Intel analyzed by this medium, the Nigerian Military has been subject of ferocious attacks, from within and outside the country. And the recent being from the International Criminal Court (ICC) wherein it stated that the Nigerian Military would be investigated for war crimes in the prosecution of the war against insurgency. The line of thought is that if the Nigerian Military can be tamed, then the next rounds of political protest would be a smooth sail.

According to insiders in the security sector that unravelled the plot disclosed that substantial amounts of monies were wired through the accounts of one of the International NGOs in Nigeria domiciled outside the country to evade the prying eyes of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) domiciled within the Central Bank of Nigeria and the central coordinating body for Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorist Financing and Counter-Proliferation Financing.

It was also revealed that tranches of monies were wired to the accounts of a law firm under the narration of payment for legal services. Upon interrogation by the security agencies, there was no record of the law firm representing the International NGO in any matter of dispute.

A source who is conversant with the antecedent of the lead counsel in the law firm confided that the lead counsel is a man of many faces and never to be trusted.

“Nigerians would be in for a shocker when the atrocities of the supposed lawyer of repute come to the open. He cuts deals not minding the implication for national security and those of us close to him; we have warned him times without number to tread carefully. His response has always been that who would feed his family?”

The source further added that the lawyer would jump at any given opportunity to make money.

“His greed is legendary. It has now become more of a curse because he quakes at the mention of money and goes all out about it. I recall there was a particular case where some monies were traced to his account, and he cleverly made some very despicable statements about the government that took the attention away from the findings. I can bet that the government has a dossier on him and waiting for the perfect time to come to the open.”

The above stated was corroborated by another source who pleaded anonymity, stated that the EndSARS protest was a significant harvest for the lawyer as he received mind-boggling sums of monies through proxies for him to act in support of the protest even with the knowledge of the agenda of the promoters.

“It was a reign of monetary harvest as lots of monies exchanged hands during the EndSARS protest. The lawyer, as we call him, was unapologetic in his approach. He told all that cared to listen that he was for sale to the highest bidder and that much was what played out with regards his role in the whole saga.”

The source further added that Amnesty International played a key role in the EndSARS protest and in conjunction with some select Civil Society Organizations that were recommended by the same lawyer.

“I can say authoritatively that Amnesty International relied on the opinion of the lawyer during the EndSARS protest. He was the one that made recommendations on the number of civil society groups to work with and imagine a situation where some of the civil society groups only exist on paper and not in reality.”

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Military has been subject of media scrutiny for the role it played during the EndSARS protest that rocked the country.
