I’m pleased with bye-elections outcomes – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says he is pleased with the outcomes of various bye-elections held in different parts of the country.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement, said results from the polls showed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remained the choice of the people adding that they will not be disappointed.

The statement which added that the people would not be taken for granted, thanked the Interim Management Committee of APC led by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, party leaders and representatives for what it described as their impressionable performance.

The statement read: “Results coming from the states of the long list of bye-elections show definitely that our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), remains the chosen party of Nigerians.

“We do not take this confidence of the people for granted and we will not fail them.
“Nigerians who appreciate the efforts of the administration in making life better for all citizens, especially under an economy facing the severest test from the global Coronavirus pandemic will not be disappointed.

“We thank them immensely for their trust in the party and government. We equally thank the Interim Management Committee of the party under the capable leadership of His Excellency Mai Mala Buni, the Governor of Yobe State, the Progressive Governors Forum under Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, all our governors, parliamentarians, state, local government and ward level APC chapters and the entire ranks of the membership for this brave and impressionable performance.

“While congratulating the successful candidates, President Muhammadu Buhari in particular, is very pleased with the election outcomes and urges the party to uphold the spirit of hard work, unity, progress, cooperation that forms the bedrock of these victories.”

Katsina communities pen letter of appreciation to COAS Buratai over improved security

 

The Faskari communities of Katsina State have applauded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur, over the improved security situation in the area.
This was contained in a letter dated December 2, signed by Alhaji Aminu Tukur Usman, the ‘Sarkin Yamman Katsina’ and addressed to the COAS.
According to the District Head, the entire district and Local Government now enjoys a new lease of life, thanks to the launch of the Nigerian Army Super Camp IV.
He wrote, “On behalf of the good people of Faskari Communities, I hereby write to extend our appreciation over your contribution waboutthe improvement of the general security situation in the entire District and Local Government in particular.
“The timely intervention through the establishment of the Nigerian Army Super Camp IV is indeed commendable and well appreciated by us”.
The traditional ruler also hailed the Army Chief for approving payment of compensation to farmers as well as rehabilitation of the health facility in the community.
“Similarly, we also recognise and appreciate your approval of the payment of compensation to farmers whose farmlands/crops were affected by the work in the Nigerian Army Super Camp IV and the ongoing rehabilitation of our health facility as an implementation of corporate social responsibility under your good office,” the letter added.
” At this juncture, the people of Faskari within and outside Nigeria are proud to be associated with you and your excellent officers and men. May God Almighty reward you abundantly amin”.
Recall that the COAS had in July  lagged off a Special Army Super Camp IV in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The establishment of the super camp was part of the activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2020 and the commencement of “Exercise Sahel Sanity 2020” to curb banditry and other forms of crimes plaguing the communities in the North West.

‘Born again’ Kanye West beats Kirk Franklin, others to clinch Billboard’s Top Gospel Artiste 2020

American rapper and latter day born-again singer, Kanye West, has emerged Billboard‘s Top Gospel Artiste of the year 2020. He defeated Kirk Franklin who took second, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Sunday Service Choir, Travis Greene, Marvin Sapp, Kierra Sheard and others to clinch the award.

According to Billboard, West’s 2019 album, Jesus Is King, his first spiritual-themed set, opened atop Top Gospel Albums, Top Christian Albums and the all-genre Billboard 200.

“In its opening week on the November 9, 2019, dated lists, the set earned 264,000 equivalent album units, the biggest week ever for a faith-based album. Since its arrival, Jesus Is King has spent more than a year at No. 1 and is the No. 1 album on the Top Gospel Albums year-end tally.

“The No. 2 Christian Album of 2020 also comes from West’s world. Jesus Is Born, credited to the Sunday Service Choir (with production by West), finishes in the runner-up position. The album was released on December 25, 2019.

“After just a day-and-a-half of tracking, Jesus Is Born entered Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart (dated January 4, 2020) at No. 2 starting with 6,000 equivalent album units earned (3,000 in album sales) in the week ending December 26, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Jesus Is Born peaked at No. 2 on Top Gospel Albums, not making it to the summit only because West’s own Jesus Is King LP was dominating at No. 1. Sunday Service Choir is also the leading gospel group of 2020,” Billboard wrote.

West’s Follow God song bagged the number one song of the year on Hot Gospel Songs. “Meanwhile, the lead track on Jesus Is King, Follow God, is the No. 1 song of the year on Hot Gospel Songs, which is powered by streaming, airplay and sales. Follow God has spent more than 40 weeks at No. 1. Concurrently, it is the No. 1 song on the year-end Gospel Streaming Songs list and No. 2 on Gospel Digital Song Sales.

“West’s Wash Us in the Blood, featuring Travis Scott, is the No. 4 Hot Gospel Songs title of 2020. Wash Us started at No. 1 on both Hot Gospel Songs and Hot Christian Songs on the surveys dated July 11. It reigned for eight weeks on the former and two frames on the latter. It’s also the No. 1 song of 2020 on Gospel Digital Song Sales,” It added.

Meanwhile, Tasha Cobbs Leonard has been name the top female artiste of year 2020. Cobbs who is No. 3 on the overall ranking, came in behind West and Kirk Franklin.

She places two sets in the Top Gospel Albums’ year-end list. Her 2017 album Heart, Passion, Pursuit, which bowed in the penthouse and spent 29 frames there, is the No. 3 album of the year. The set has yet to leave the weekly top 10 of the Top Gospel Albums chart since its debut on the list on Sept. 16, 2017. Her first Top Gospel Albums appearance, a 2013 EP titled Grace, is her second top 10 of 2020, coming in at No. 9 for the year.

In 2020, Cobbs Leonard scored her fifth No. 1 on Top Gospel Albums. Her Royalty: Live at the Ryman blasted in atop the chart dated October 10 with 3,000 units. The 17-tracker was initially intended to be recorded live in front of a crowd at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium but due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cobbs Leonard opted to record it at the historic setting without an audience.

In July this year, Cobbs Leonard added to her Top Gospel Albums top 10 tallies when her EP Intercession arrived at No. 3. To date, she has notched five No. 1s among six top 10s.

Kano Council of Ullammas endorse Tinubu to run for presidency in 2023

The Kano State Council of Ullammas has endorsed former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to run for presidency in the 2023 presidential election.

The Ullammas and Immams in Kano gave Tinubu the endorsement on Saturday during the wedding Fatiha of the daughter of an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Bin-Uthman, saying that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has all it takes to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari since he has a nationwide appeal that cuts across every part of Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the Ullammas and Imaams, Sheik Shehu Shehu Maihula said the endorsement of Tinubu was “payback for what the Jagaban did to one of our own, President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, who had tried severally to clinch the presidency but failed,” until Tinubu joined forces with him in 2014.

“It is indeed on record and in our minds what you did for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2014. This is somebody who had tried all he could to clinch his Presidential ambition but failed serially, not until you joined forces with him,” Sheik Maihula began.

“You, Bola Tinubu, brought to Buhari the Muslims and Christians in the south to mend fences with the North for him to achieve his long time desire.

“This, we will revenge and revenge well, by giving you all the necessary support you require to achieve your desire; this is an assurance to you for what you have done for us.”

Recall that Tinubu had denied that his visit to Kano last week was for political campaign.

APC wins Bakori state Constituency bye-election in Katsina

Dr. Ibrahim Aminu Kurami of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was on Sunday declared the winner of the Bakori State Constituency bye-election held on Saturday

Kurami defeated Alhaji Aminu Magaji of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge victorious.

Announcing the final result, the returning officer of Bakori local Government State Constituency Bye- election, Professor A. D. Kankia, declared that Dr Aminu Kurani of the APC scored 20,444 votes, while hi closest rival, Alhaji Aminu Magaji of the PDP

Recall that the member representing Bakori State constituency in the House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdurrazaq Tsiga died in May this year, after a protracted illness.

Tsiga was said to have fallen ill shortly after the inauguration of the 6th Katsina Assembly in June 2019.

He was the House Deputy leader and Chairman, House Committee on business, ethics and privileges, before his death

Buhari aware of hardship in Nigeria – Aregbesola

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, says President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of the hardship Nigerians are facing.

The minister made this known while speaking at the commissioning of a central mosque built by Ta’Awunu Islamic group in Iwo, Osun State, on Saturday.

He said that COVID-19 pandemic and EndSARS protest have caused suffering to the people, noting that Buhari is aware and on top of the situation.

“The President is aware of the hardship facing the citizens of the country. This was caused by the pandemic and the End SARS protest which erupted in many states of the federation. The president is doing all his best and I can assure you that very soon, all will be well and we will be happy again.”

Aregbesola also urged Nigerians to go about the festive period with caution, saying that coronavirus pandemic is still very much on.

He said that the country can’t afford to return to when the dreaded Virus was at its peak in the country, urging Nigerians not lower their guards at this point that cases are being recorded ona daily basis.

“My reasons for coming to the state is in two folds: End SARS and to remind us that Coronavirus is still very much with us. We can’t afford to return to when the virus was at its peak in the country. That is why we must observe social distance and we use our face masks always. Cases are still being recorded everyday.

“During this festive period, we must be cautious. We should obey the holy prophet’s teachings that say, ‘when there is an outbreak of epidemic somewhere, we should not leave there and those outside should not join until the epidemic is over. We must take responsibilities of our lives,” he said.

Female Professor Nora Daduut wins Plateau South Senatorial bye-lection

A female professor, Nora Daduut, has been declared winner in Saturday’s Plateau South senatorial bye-election.

Daduut is a Professor of French Language.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled a total of 83,15104 votes, while Hon. George Daika, her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, garnered 70,838 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lafia, Professor Idris Amale, therefore declared Daddut as the winner of the election.

The candidate of the APC defeated her closest opponent in four local government areas in the senatorial zone, namely Shendam, Wade, Quan’pan, and Mikang, while the PDP candidate won in two local government areas; Langtang North and Langtang South.

INEC had rescheduled the bye-election into Plateau South which became vacant due to the demise of the former occupant, Ignatius Datong Longjan.

Longjan, a former Deputy Governor of Plateau State died in October at the Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja hospital after a brief illness.

INEC declares APC winner of Imo North senatorial bye-election without candidate
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Dec. 5, Okigwe senatorial bye-election.

Announcing the result, the returning officer, Mr Hakeem Adikum, said that the APC polled a total of 36, 811 votes, while PDP came second with 31,903 votes.

The News Agency of Nigera (NAN), however, reports that the commission did not return a candidate from the party.

Adikum said APC won in five out of six Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the senatorial district while the PDP came second having won only in Obowo LGA.

He declared that the LGAs won by the APC are Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, and Ihitte Uboma.

“I hereby return the All Progressive Congress as the winner of the by-election held in Imo North on Saturday, Dec. 5,” he said.

Speaking, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo, Prof. Francis Ezeonu, said that the commission was unable to return a candidate from the APC as winner.

He explained that this was as a result of what he described as “several Court orders” for and against the two major contenders, Frank Ibezim and Ifeanyi Araraume, a former senator.

He said that two Court judgments had surfaced on Friday, one from the Court of Appeal, Owerri, and another from the Federal High Court, Abuja.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal faulted the judgment of the Federal High Court, Owerri, which had nullified the candidacy of Ibezim and declared him candidate while sacking Araraume barely 24 hours to the election.

The Federal High Court, Abuja had on the other hand declared Araraume as candidate of the party, on the grounds that Ibezim presented fake certificates to the APC and INEC.

BAUCHI: APC’s Bala Lukshi wins Dass bye-election

 

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bala Lukshi, has won the Bauchi State House of Assembly bye-election held in Dass Local Government Area (LGA )on Saturday.

Lukshi pulled a total of 12,299 votes ahead of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), counterpart, Lawal Wandi who got 11,062 votes.

The Returning Officer, Professor Ahmed Mohammed of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) made this known on Saturday night.

Mohammed therefore declared Bala Lukshi of APC as winner of the keenly contested election and was returned elected having scored the highest votes.

The Dass Assembly election was held following the death of Hon. Musa Mantle Baraza, who was murdered by unknown gunmen in his residence in August this year.

Lukshi was appointed acting Head of Service in the state following the sack of Alhaji Ahmed Ma’aji in September.

INEC declares Bakura constituency by-election inconclusive in Zamfara

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decalared  the Bakura House of Assembly by-election in Zamfara State inconclusive.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, made this known on Sunday.

He explained that, after collation the result of the votes cast, the two major contenders, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 16,464 and 18,645 respectively, giving a difference of 2,181.

Prof. Magawata further said that results from 14 polling units were cancelled due to over voting.

He also said that some polling units scored zero due to ballot box snatching, violence, assault on INEC officials and burning of election materials by thugs.

According to him, the cancellation of the 14 Polling Units affected 11,429 voters which is higher than the margin announced and so declared the election inconclusive.

Meanwhile, the electoral umpire, INEC is expected to brief the media on the development and the next line of action.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that tension was high in Bakura some days to the election leading to the deployment of more security personnel.

There were also accusations and counter accusations especially on rigging and intimidation between the former state governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari (APC) and Gov. Bello Matawalle (PDP).

The development created conflict among the supporters of the two political parties.
