Oyakhilome prophesied I’ll go to prison, Orji Kalu says

0

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has disclosed how the Founder and President of LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, told him that he would be imprisoned for about after six months.

Recall that Senator Kalu was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in December 2019 on corruption charges but was released from Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja in June 2020.

His release was following the judgement of the Federal High Court in Lagos in line with the Supreme Court judgment nullifying his trial and conviction. The Supreme Court had, in May, ruled that the trial and judgment.

Kalu, speaking during Sunday Thanksgiving service at Christ Embassy headquarters in Lagos, said Pastor Chris Oyakhilome told him in October 2019 that no amount of intervention from world leaders would prevent him from going to prison.

He said: “I was traveling to Abuja and Pastor (Chris) asked me to drop by for dinner. We have been friends for more than 28 years, but when I was about leaving, we prayed together, and he told me what I didn’t know how to digest.

“He said I should prepare myself because I was going to be in prison for six months. He told me it is something I cannot stop, and no amount of intervention from world leaders can stop it.

He added that Pastor Chris told him to be closer to God because it’s a phase God wanted him to pass through.

“Today, I am very grateful for that experience. Then, I wished the cup could pass by but today I am glad and extremely happy very to God for everything.

According to him, that was not the first time Pastor Chris would prophesy to him but he has always disagreed with him because he doesn’t believe in prophecies.

Kalu also revealed that the Pastor prophesied that President Buhari will become President in 2015 and it came to pass.

“In 2011, he told me I should not contest for the Senate election because my mandate would be stolen and won’t be recovered. I disobeyed him and it went as he said.

“In 2014, he also told me Muhammadu Buhari would win the 2015 election. So I am here to thank God and to thank the Pastor for being the instrument God uses to speak to me,” the former governor added.

Nigeria in demographic Catastrophe, States NIPSS boss

Speaking at the alliance of 77 delegates of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 42 yesterday, Galadima said just 27.9 per cent of the populace was encouraging and productive others.

He explained: “Nigeria’s population is increasing at 3.2 per cent annually that equates to an extra 6.7 million men annually, which makes it among the greatest on earth. As at 2019, 86.7 per cent of Nigerians rely on other people to live, meaning only 27.9 million people from roughly 210 million are effective.”

Galadima said farther that the demographic crisis, characterized by a higher speed of out-of-school kids, youth bulge in the population census, higher dependency ratio; also as high unemployment, was leading to conflicts over resources, insecurity, violence and youth restiveness.

To tackle the emergency, the SEC 42, who spent his research period researching the topic, requested the President to approve the revised National Population Policy 2019 and guarantee a successful implementation of this policy.

They, and the Federal Ministry of Public Health, must collaborate with the NOA to make consciousness and concentrated advocacy for the behavioural and social influence on people issues continuously in 2021 into 2024″.

Galadima is known for the execution of family planning methods to look at the nation’s population growth.

“Family planning is very important to the management of Nigeria’s population and it plays a very important part of the decrease in maternal mortality and morbidity. It is still one of the very cost-effective tactics to stop maternal, child and infant mortality,” he explained.

In his address, President Muhammadu Buhari, who had been symbolized by Plateau State Senate, Mr Simon Lalong, promised the SEC 42 his government would apply the 12-point recommendations on Population Growth and Human Capital Development in Nigeria.

CAN to FG: Use religious, traditional leaders to tackle sexual violence

0

Following the high rate of sexual violence in the country, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has advised the Federal Government and other civil rights groups working against gender-based violence to use religious leaders to fight the menace.

This, according to the CAN, is because the religious and traditional leaders command loyalty and respect from thousands of followers who could easily obey their instructions and act on issues of gender-based violence.

CAN President, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, gave the suggestion in Abuja at the launch of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence where he stated that the menace had had immeasurable and devastating effects on the life of victims.

He was particularly concerned that most of the gender-based violence was recorded at homes from trusted close family members.

His words: “Home is not always a safe place to live, especially for adults and children living in situations of domestic and familial violence. Home is often the space where physical, psychological and sexual abuse occurs. This is because home can be a place where dynamics of power are distorted and subverted by those who abuse often without scrutiny from anyone outside the couple or the family unit.

“Children face particular protection risks, including that of being separated from their caregivers. Social norms put a heavy caregiving burden on women and girls in many countries and are likely to cause their physical and mental health to suffer and impede their access to education, livelihood sources and other critical support.

“The commitment of faith actors to human rights is not an arbitrary cultural or ideological preference, but rooted in religious convictions. There can be no justice where God-given human rights are violated or where duty bearers fail to discharge their responsibilities”.

The CAN boss advocated that all responses against gender-based violence should involve faith actors, adding that: “They should ensure coordination and meaningful partnerships between faith and secular actors. They are key in reaching communities both with essential information, providing service to vulnerable groups and promoting behaviour change and challenging harmful norms, stereotypes and stigma”.

Ayokunle advocated that there should be adoption of gender-just policies and funding of Coronavirus (COVID-19) response plans that will holistically address the pandemic, including the secondary impacts on education, health, economy and livelihoods.

Religious Blacklist: U.S misled by political CAN, terrorist groups – Igbo group

0

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement (INM) has blamed “political” Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and groups that have showed incurable bias and sympathy for terrorist organisations for the inclusion of Nigeria in the United States’ blacklist for religious intolerance.

The group said it came to this conclusion after a thorough review of the circumstances that led to the inclusion of Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its President, Mazi Ifeanyi Igwe, the Igbo group said the U.S. was misled by the political wing of CAN and groups affiliated to terrorism.

The INM noted that the U.S’ report was extracted from NGOs and international news reports that are totally out of tune with the reality in Nigeria.

According to the group, the United States’ blacklist could ultimately incite Christians against their Muslim neighbours in parts of the country that have till date remained peaceful and free of ethno-sectarian crisis

The INM, however, that the United States discards its report listing Nigeria as a country that promotes religious persecution as it is lacking in facts while it is a product of misleading reports by the political wings of supposed religious groups.

Read the full statement below:

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement (INM) taken time to review the inclusion of Nigeria on the Special Watch List for having engaged in or tolerated severe violations of religious freedom by the States Department of the United States in its 2019 Report on International Religious Freedom: Nigeria.

The logical conclusion we arrived at upon our review is the United States was misled by the political wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and groups that have shown incurable bias and sympathy for terrorist organizations.

INM’s decision to make this public clarification derives from the realization that the UN report contained too many fallacies that will do long term damage to harmonious relations among the diverse ethnic nationalities in Nigeria if they are not immediately challenged, exposed as false and rejected in their entirety.

We particularly noted that the US report was largely based on the information it extracted from NGOs and international news reports that are totally out of tune with the reality in Nigeria. The NGOs and the news outlets engaged in a lot of inferences and generalization that magnified incidents in a way that fits into preconceived stereotypes they have for Nigeria.

It must be noted and documented that CAN, which the report relied heavily on for input and subsequent endorsement and marketing of its content, has in recent years metamorphosed into the NGO wing of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP). It has made it a mission to frame whatever the Federal Government of Nigeria is doing from the perspective of the ethnic and sectarian prism, which has served to sow divisions where none existed prior.

INM is concerned that the manner that the US report is promoting the concept of Muslims versus Christians will dangerously incite Christians against their Muslim neighbours in parts of the country that have till date remained peaceful and free of ethno-sectarian crisis. We further fear that the report is validating a suggestion that other ethnic groups should exterminate the Fulani from Nigeria.

We are raising this alarm because of the risks this report poses as something that will incite and inflame passion among the Igbos, first as having large Christian population and secondly as originally being from the south-east of Nigeria, in a manner that will make them take the law into their hands. This has the potential of misleading our people to commit crimes in addition to sparking off tit-for-tat reprisals that will make the whole of Nigeria a sectarian war zone.

INM, therefore, demands that the United States discards its report listing Nigeria as a country that promotes religious persecution as it is lacking in facts while it is a product of misleading reports by the political wings of supposed religious groups. The wild categorization of Nigerians as sharply divided along ethnic and sectarian lines is something that the US also has to desist from doing forthwith because experience has shown us that these concepts of identity war that is projected into the consciousness of Nigerians amount to a kind of subtle war that is meant to make Nigerians kill themselves.
