At Lagos Airport, the NDLEA intercepts 6.5 billion dollars worth of heroin.

0

At the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a shipment of 26.150 kilograms of heroin with a street value of over 6.5 billion dollars.

The illicit drugs arrived in Lagos in 25 parcels via an Air Peace Airline flight on June 30 and were detained for screening due to suspicions about the contents of the consignment, according to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi in a statement released on Sunday.

The following day, narcotics officers from the MMIA command trailed the driver and a clearing agent who were assigned to deliver the consignment to the house of a baron, Tony Chidi Onwurolu at No. 132 Lateef Adegboyega Street, off Ago palace way by Grandmate bus stop Okota, Lagos.

Tony Chidi Onwurolu, who had clearly mounted counter-surveillance around his neighborhood during the follow-up operation, fled his home before the arrival of the team of operatives who stormed his residence. They were able to search his home and recover a number of documents that helped them figure out who he was.

As a result of the development, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has ordered that the fleeing drug baron, Tony Chidi Onwurolu, be declared wanted immediately and his details submitted to Interpol for global tracking. As a result, he ordered the Directorate of Assets and Financial Investigations, as well as the Directorate of Intelligence, to deploy their networks in order to expedite Onwurolu’s arrest.

Because of the amount of heroin brought into the country by the fleeing baron, Marwa said the agency would use all available mechanisms, both locally and internationally, to track him down and bring him to justice.

“We have tracked down those who have been on the run for ten years, and some for five years, and they are now facing charges and cooling their heels behind bars. The latest one will be no different, because he can only run but not hide for long before we catch him,” Marwa explained.

Similarly, the Command’s operatives seized 4.3 kilograms of skunk imported from Canada. The package, which arrived on Ethiopian Airlines, was hidden among nine cereal packs.

NDLEA operatives also intercepted one Babatunde Usman Omogbolahan Bakare with 550 grams of cannabis and 50 grams of Rohypnol (Flunitrazepam) concealed in six jerry cans of local herbal mixtures known as Gabo at SAHCO export shed, MMIA, Ikeja on July 9.

During the outward clearance of cargo bound for Dubai, the drug was discovered.

On Tuesday, July 6, MMIA Command operatives conducted a follow-up operation at Gate 2, Ladipo Oluwole Street, Ikeja, opposite the Guinness Bottling Company, where one Animashaun Kabiru was apprehended for questioning about a bag containing bitter cola that was brought for export to the UK.

“When the bag of bitter kola was searched, it was discovered that the bitter kola had been mixed with some wraps of an unknown substance. Thirty-six wraps of the suspected substance were later found to contain 600 grams of cocaine, according to an NDLEA spokesman.

In a related development, an Uber driver, Lawal Tunde Rasheed, who was arrested on June 8 in connection with the seizure of a cocaine consignment has been released after his cooperation led to the arrest of the real owner of the drug, Mr. Egbo Emmanuel Maduka, who accepted ownership of the consignment and absolved Lawal of any complicity in his statement.

While praising the officers and men of the Agency’s MMIA Command for recent seizures and arrests, Gen. Marwa warned them not to rest on their laurels, saying, “We must all remain fully prepared and proactive at all times if we are to bring this scourge to a halt.”

Bandits Say Abducted Kebbi Secondary Schoolgirls Already Married To Criminals

0

The kidnappers of some schoolgirls from the Federal Girls’ College in Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, have told their parents that their daughters have been married off.

The abductors sent them footage showing their daughters were already married, according to some of the parents who raised the alarm on Sunday.

On June 16, bandits broke into the school and abducted a large number of students to an unknown location. During the incident, a police officer was also killed.

Meanwhile, one of the parents who spoke to BBC Hausa said that the kidnappers always told them that their daughters were fine.

“Sometimes they call and give us our daughters to talk to us,” he added. Your child will call and talk to you if they have your phone number.

“However, I haven’t spoken to my daughter since they were kidnapped.”

On June 17, it was reported that some students at Federal Government College in Birnin Yauri had been kidnapped after a police officer was killed.

In Northern Nigeria, there have been a series of attacks on schools and kidnappings of pupils and students.

Gunmen raided the main campus of the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria, Kaduna state, three weeks ago, killing one student and kidnapping at least ten others.

According to Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner of internal security, the gunmen kidnapped two lecturers and eight students.

Two students were shot, according to Aruwan, one of whom died while the other was being treated in the hospital.

The kidnapping of Kajuru Emir is a farcical joke, according to Kaduna Speaker.

The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, has described the kidnapping of the Emir of Kajuru, Adamu Kajuru, and ten others as a farcical joke.

He stated this in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, and made available to journalists in Kaduna on July 11.

“The news of the kidnapping of the Emir of Kajuru, Adamu Kajuru, and ten people said to be members of his family is a farcical joke that must be condemned,” he said.

“Traditional leaders play an important role in ensuring peaceful coexistence and the stability of our society; thus, the abductors seek to destabilize our society.”

Zailani stated that because of his significant role in society, security personnel should track down the abductors and ensure that all hostages are released unharmed.

He went on to say, “I appeal for calm from all concerned at this time, assuring that our security agencies will act swiftly to ensure their safe return.”

Bandits stormed the Kajuru Emirate in the early hours of today, kidnapping the Emir and 13 of his family members, including two of his grandchildren, in the Kajuru Local Government Area.

The latest incident occurs just six days after 121 students from Bethel Baptist School in the neighboring Chikun Local Government Area were kidnapped.

It was reported that over 200 bandits stormed the emirate, firing gunshots before proceeding to the Emir’s palace and kidnapping him and 13 members of his family.

Three women, two of his grandchildren, three of his aides, and five other people were taken hostage.

Kwara 2019: APC groups tackles Gov. AbdulRazaq

Governor Abdulrahman-Abdulrazaq of Kwara

Governor Abdulrahman-Abdulrazaq of Kwara

By Abiodun Esan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Integrity Group in Kwara says Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Sen. Gbemi Saraki raised funds to prosecute the 2019 elections in the state.

The group’s spokesman, Alhaji Abdul-Rahoof Bello, said this in Ilorin on Tuesday in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The group was reacting to an allegation by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, pocketed the campaign fund for Kwara.

According to Bello, the truth of the matter is that Mohammed, Saraki and other APC chieftains sourced for the fund to finance the 2019 elections in Kwara.

“Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in collaboration with the junior Minister, Sen. Gbemisola Ruqayyat Saraki, and other national leaders of the party, worked round the clock to raise funds to finance, not only the 2019 general elections,” he said.

Bello also explained that Mohammed and other chieftains sourced for money to conduct party primary elections; campaigns; training of party election officials; mobilisation; security; logistics and funding of the presidential rally in the state.

“Since we (APC) was fighting the 2019 elections from the trenches of opposition, the planning could not have been conventionally perfect.

“Not surprisingly that a mixed-grill of approach that was improvised did achieve the desired goals beyond imagination.

“For Kwara APC as an orphan, the national leadership of the party came to the rescue by making the most senior Minister from the State, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the defacto leader of the party in the State.

“That was the money Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq claimed to have been ‘stolen’ because he was supposed to be consulted before disbursement.

“But at that point in time, who or where was Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq? What locus standi has he to query the sources and uses of funds he knew nothing about?

“It is sickening to note that the character and quality of leadership in Kwara, a State of Harmony, continue to depreciate like a weak currency, as the helmsman, Gov. Abdulrahaman Abdulrasaq unabashedly waxes stronger in mastery of barefaced lies, denials and goals displacement.

“The APC Integrity Group, like many right-thinking Kwarans, is worried and apprehensive about this ugly trends in our body politic.

“Therefore, we are constrained to speak out against the abnormality with a view to giving a sense of direction to the drifting ship of the state.

“It leaves a sour taste in the mouth that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (GAA) has become unremorsefully notorious in propounding different conflict theories to make his ends justify his means on the crisis rocking the APC since assumption of office.

“The governor has been entertaining Kwarans with overdose of lies and half-truths to a nauseating level, that his administration becomes synonymous with deceit and falsehood personified.

“This is a contradiction in context and reality to the stated objectives of ‘O To Gẹ́ẹ́’ revolution in Kwara State,” Bello added.

The spokesman who blamed AbdulRazaq for causing the crisis rocking the party, said the governor however preferred to blame everyone except himself.

“He tarred party leaders with corrosive bitumen, portraying them as fastidious and gluttonous elements with insatiable lust for power and material gains.

“The governor was also never tired of appealing to public sentiments that he was under the pressure by Hon. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and a few clique, who were trying to undermine his authority as the custodian of people’s mandate and as the APC Leader in the state,” he added.

According to Bello, the governor should however tell the world what happened to the N1 billion he collected from the national headquarters of APC instead of accusing the minister of stealing campaign funds.

“Curiously, the governor has added a new stanza to his political anthem by taking refuge under immunity clause, to make a libelous allegation of ‘stolen’ campaign funds and neglect during 2019 elections.

“He made such other fallacious accusations against the leadership of the party that delivered victory on his lap without tears!

“These slanderous statements were made at a book launch by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, last weekend.

“Despite the Divine intervention in his political career, it is unbelievable that Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who allegedly collected and sat on a whooping amount of money (N1bn) from the national headquarters of APC, part of which was meant to reimburse the nomination fees paid by all aspirants who lost the tickets in the botched primary elections.

“Was he, by then, not a dark horse and an unknown quantity who was later to gate crash to have benefited from the harvest even without tilling the soil.

“Anyone could be at liberty to blame the laundry but certainly not a bed wetter! A deity that cannot help should rather leave the worshipper intact.

“What an irony that this same man is playing holier than thou, weaving spurious allegations against his benefactors,” Bello said.

He said that the APC Integrity Group was forced to react to the allegations against the minister and ithe leaders of the party because of the gravity of the allegations which, he said, amounted to perjury.

“Ordinarily, the APC Integrity Group wouldn’t have bothered responding to the acidic darts from the irritant GAA group at the book launch, but for the possibility of it misleading a section of the public.

“By generous impulse, we had wanted to give a benefit of doubt for the governor that he would come out, as usual, to disown and deny the message and the messenger after gauging the trend of public opinion on it.

“This optimism was influenced by the temerity of GAA to lie on oath before a Court of records, to disown the illegality of TIC Chairmen, sworn-in and inaugurated by the same deputy governor recently.

“The criminal offence taken for granted by GAA is known to Law as perjury, which carries a minimum of five years imprisonment on conviction.

“The same face-saving denial was made when the first attempt at Banquet Hall to remove Hon. Bashir Ọmọlaja Bolarinwa from office as party Chairman failed.

“The governor, who was physically present at the occasion, drafted his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, to paint the town red with media denial.

“However, the need to straighten records has taken priority over the speculation of repentance for posterity sake,” he added.

According to him, AbdulRazaq has lost focus because he has abandoned the APC Manifesto and Roadmaster, which were the key elements in the party’s ‘Social Contract’ with the people of Kwara in 2019.

On the allegation of a cabal trying to frustrate his government, the APC Integrity Group spokesman therefore threw posers to the governor thus:

“Are the cabals or past administration responsible for the diversion of LG statutory monthly Allocations?

“Who were the cabal that armtwisted the APC local leaders to foist your candidature on members against all odds?

“On whose behalf was Hon. Bashir Ọmọlaja Bolarinwa prostrating to a congregation of members, pleading for continued support and cooperation, at Savannah Event Centre?

“If the party did not campaign for you, in whose interest did Rotimi Amaechi came to Ilorin to launch a digital ‘Election Situation Report Website? Was the idea yours?

“Was the ‘cabal’ or past administration responsible for corruption in high places such as SUBEB; Ilorin Government High School inflated contracts; false claims on road rehabilitation, etc?

“Who are the ‘cabals’ stalling the staggered nomination and appointment of mediocres into your administration?

“Was it the ‘godfathers’ preventing Ifelodun from having a Commissioner till date?

“Who was responsible for the illegality of suspension and appointment of TIC? Who was responsible for the denial?

“Was the cabals or past administration responsible for your uncountable failed promises?,” he asked.

Bello therefore challenged the governor to provide satisfactory answers to these and other issues bothering the state, concentrate on good governance and wait patiently to log out in 2023.

Gombe Gov heads Anambra APC governorship primary election appeal committee

Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe State: Heads APC Appeal Committee for Anambra governorship election

Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe State: Heads APC Appeal Committee for Anambra governorship election

By Emmanuel Mogbede

The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday in Abuja appointed Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State to head its five-member Anambra Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee.

Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), disclosed this in a statement.

He said that the committee would be formally inaugurated on June 30 at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja.

He listed other members of the committee as Sen. Julius Ucha, Hajia Maryam Salifu and Alhaji Bukar Dalori, while Dr Ijeoma Arodiogbu would serve as its secretary.

“In this capacity, the committee is expected to hear all appeals arising from the conduct of the primary election in line with the provisions of our party’s Constitution and guidelines for the nomination of candidates,” Akpanudoedehe.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 14 aspirants were said to have participated at the APC Anambra governorship election primary, held on June 26.

The aspirants include; Sen. Andy Uba, Nwokafor Amobi Daniel, Dr George Moghalu, Mr Paul Izuchukwu Orajiaka, Mr Edozie Madu and Dr Chidozie Nwankwo.

Others are Mr Maxwell Okoye, Col. Geoffrey Onyejegbu, Mr Azuka Okwuosa, Onwa Mokelu, Igwebuike Hygers, Godwin Okonkwo, Beneth Etiaba and Onunkwo Obinna.

Uba who is re-contesting the Anambra governorship election, was announced by the Gov. Dapo Abiodu-led APC primary election committee for the state as its winner.

Uba won the Anambra governorship election in 2007 with a landslide victory and was sworn on May 27, 2007.

However, on June 14, 2007, barely two weeks and three days after being sworn in, Uba was removed from office by a judgment of the Supreme Court which ruled that the tenure of the then incumbent, Gov. Peter Obi of APGA, had not expired.

The election in which Uba emerged victorious was therefore declared as null and void because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted it in contravention of the law, the court had said.

Uba who hailed from Uga, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) in Anambra South, had since then made tenacious efforts to claim the top political job in the state.

In April 2011, he won the Senatorial election to represent his district and served for two terms.

It’s a VERY SAD DAY:

In Bantex, I have lost a dear friend and partner in the service of Kaduna State

In the midst of trying times, I have received with utter sadness news of the departure of my friend and brother, His Excellency Barnabas Yusuf Bala (Bantex).

From our days as undergraduates in the 1970s to our practice as professional colleagues in the construction industry and eventually partners in a governance project, Bantex was consistently a dependable man of brilliance and imagination. He believed in the potential of our state and in the capacity of our people to work together for progressive attainments.

Together, we took on the task of providing new leadership for Kaduna State in 2015. He brought to his duties as Deputy Governor during our first term his unique insights as a politician with experience in navigating the diversity of our state. Bantex radiated hope and optimism in the future of our state, even when the circumstances were dreary.

Bantex had served the people of Kaduna State in several capacities prior to becoming Deputy Governor. As a delegate to the 1994 Constitutional Conference, chairman of Kaura Local Government Council and member for Kaura Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, he was a sterling symbol of representative democracy.

We would miss his brilliance and his commitment to Kaduna State, his easygoing manners, his sense of humour and steadfastness to his convictions.

I have spoken to his family and conveyed our condolence on behalf of the government and people of Kaduna State. We shall work closely with his family to grant a befitting farewell to a man who gave so much to this state even when hobbled by ill-health.

We have been blessed to know Bantex and to work with him. We pray God to grant him peaceful repose and to comfort his wife, children and the entire family in this moment of grief and loss.

NYSC and Kemi Adeosun’s ‘Victory’ Dance

0

By Oluwabunmi Ogunmola

These are indeed interesting times with the recent acquittal of the former minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, by a federal high court in Abuja. In its ruling, the court averred that the ex- Finance Minister, being a British citizen, was not qualified to take part in the NYSC as she graduated at the age of 22.

The court held that since the 1979 Constitution, which was in force when Adeosun graduated, did not recognize dual citizenship, she could not have participated in the NYSC scheme, being a British citizen. This is indeed very interesting, and one wonders if some of these judges live in Nigeria or are from outer space. This is a topic for another day.

The fact of the matter still stands on certificate forgery and not eligibility for participation in the NYSC scheme. This is where I think it’s too early for Madam Kemi Adeosun to dance because she hasn’t been cleared of the allegations of certificate forgery.

This is the crux of my piece and why the government must do the needful in putting her to trial for forgery, culminating in her resignation from office as minister and her subsequent disappearance from the shores of Nigeria obviously to evade justice. It suffices to state that in her resignation letter, Adeosun did admit that the NYSC exemption certificate she presented to the Ogun State House of Assembly and the Secret Police was not genuine.

In her words, she stated thus, “Your Excellency, kindly permit me to outline some of the background to this matter. I was born and raised in the United Kingdom; indeed, my parental family home remains in London. My visits to Nigeria until the age of thirty-four (34) were holidays, with visas obtained in my UK passport. I obtained my first Nigerian passport at the age of thirty-four (34).
When I relocated, there was debate as to whether NYSC Law applied to me. Upon enquiry about my status relating to NYSC, I was informed that due to my residency history and having exceeded the age of thirty (30), I was exempted from the requirement to serve. Until recent events, that remained my understanding.”

“Based on that advice and with the guidance and assistance of those I thought were trusted associates, NYSC were approached for documentary proof of status. I then received the certificate in question. Having never worked in NYSC, visited the premises, been privy to nor familiar with their operations, I had no reason to suspect that the certificate was anything but genuine. Indeed, I presented that certificate at the 2011 Ogun State House of Assembly and in 2015 for Directorate of State Services (DSS) Clearance and the National Assembly for screening. Be that as it may, as someone committed to a culture of probity and accountability, I have decided to resign.”

Two things came out instructive in her submission; one was the fact that she admitted that she relied on “trusted associates” and she had no reason to suspect that the certificate was anything but genuine.” The implication of the above is that she admitted to committing a crime, but out of ignorance. But ignorance is not an excuse in law.

The maxim ‘ignorance of the law is no excuse” has much to answer for. Defendants arguing that they did not know or misunderstood the law have been told that their ignorance or mistake made no difference to their liability. The institutional writers have laid down as much. The courts have repeatedly emphasized it. As such, justice must take its full course, hence why the government must begin to put her to trial since she has voluntarily returned to the country from her sojourn.

In my considered opinion, the implication of non-action by the government would make a caricature of the government commitment to the rule of law, and the consequences might come back to haunt us if utmost care is not taken.
It is not Uhuru for Kemi Adeosun. It would do her well to desist from the grandstanding any further with the recent court pronouncement on her eligibility to participate in the NYSC scheme.

Her recent resurgence in Nigeria is also suspect to coincide with the questionable court judgement. Again, it seems her trusted associates have not briefed her well as to her liability.

The crime of forgery is as grievous as the crimes committed by Boko Haram insurgents. Some might not understand that forgery under Section 467 provides a general punishment of 3 years for forgery, and life imprisonment is provided for forgery of seals of the federal and state government of Nigeria.

In her case, it is a forgery of the seals of the federal government because the NYSC certificates are seals of the federal government. If this is the case, I wonder why Kemi Adeosun and her bandwagon of ignoramus associates would turn the volume high in celebration, when in truth, there is more for her to be sober about. I can bet that many schemings are ongoing with the active connivance of some influential people in government.

But these individuals, in my considered opinion, do not mean well for her. Some of them know the position of the law in this case but have elected to insult our sensibilities.

Two questions are begging for answers; are Nigerians that gullible? Should there be sacred cows in the interpretation of the law? The custodians of the law should not feign ignorance of the law as the whole world is watching. It would be tantamount to saying the Boko Haram group and other militant organizations have not committed any crime. As such, they should be allowed to roam the street freely.

The Muhammadu Buhari administration is presented with a unique opportunity to show Nigerians that nobody is above the law and that its commitment to preserving the rule of law is sacrosanct. If the needful is not done in this case, we might just come to the sad reality that anything goes in Nigeria.

I will conclude this piece with the words of Edward Snowden “The rule of law doesn’t mean the police are in charge, but that we all answer to the same laws.”

Set the agenda for politicians, Yahaya Bello tells journalists

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State

By Lizzy Okoji

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has called on Nigerian journalists to set the agenda for politicians to follow to ensure that credible Nigerians devoid of any bias come into governance.

Bello made the call during the Gala Night at the end of the maiden GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political and Crime Correspondents on Saturday in Abuja.

Bello urged Nigerian journalists to work in line with their mandates as the Fourth Estate of the Realm as they play a key role in setting the agenda for good governance.

He said that having a more united and secured Nigeria from 2023 and beyond lies in the hands of journalists through responsible reportage and setting the agenda for politicians seeking to serve.

Bello added that any politician seeking any position is there to serve the citizens hence, the responsibility of citizens to set the criteria and agenda for who they want and trust to serve them.

“How prepared we are for a better Nigeria depends on how we have to set the agenda for those in governance.

“Politicians seek to serve you which mean you are hiring a servant, and so, you should be able to set the criteria and tone because those who hire dictate the terms.

“Through your reportage, set the tone now, sit down, prepare your requirements and your check list.

“Make sure you choose leaders without sentiments and bias, a leader who is detribalized, without religious bias and one who will be a leader for all Nigerians.

“Whatever success we have achieved in Kogi today can be replicated in Nigeria and that depends on how journalists set the tone for politicians to follow.

“That is what happens in developed world and advanced democracies and we can also attain that in Nigeria if you set the agenda for political parties, including my own party.

“From 1960, 1999 till date, I think we should have learnt enough from our past mistakes and learn to do things differently,” Bello said.

Bello said that as a leader he would continue to serve and sacrifice for his people and the entire Nigerians in fairness, equity and justice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants in the workshop were drilled with a newsroom exercise on political essay writing to further task them on accurate and responsible reportage.

A cash price of N1 million was given to the winner, N500,000 to the first runner-up, N250,000 to the second runner up.

Each of the five contestants who scored above 50 per cent, received consolation price.

Speaking to NAN, Ms Chinelo Obago, winner of the competition, expressed joy and appreciated Governor Bello for the training opportunity given to journalists.

Obago said that what she and other participants have learnt would further equip them for responsible reportage.

“The Essay Competition came as a surprise to us and there wasn’t time to really research on the topic but we did it and some of us came out victorious.

“I am really happy and I appreciate the support Governor Bello gave to this workshop to be a success.

“I am excited and this will only spur me to put in more efforts in my job,” Obago said.

Centre calls for immediate arrest, prosecution of ex-minister, Adeosun

0

The Centre for Social Justice Equity and Transparency (CESJET) has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of former Minister of Finace, Kemi Adeosun for forgery.

The centre, in a statement by its Executive Director, Kolawole Johnson, said Adeosun forged her way into a very sensitive position.

According to Johnson, Adeosun should face the wrath of the law just like ex-South Africa president Jacob Zuma who is currently languishing in prison for contempt of court.

The centre, however, urged all well meaning Nigerians to rise up as statesmen and protect the institutions that have made us who we are as a nation especially the judiciary to avoid these kind of embarrassing judgements.

It, therefore, issued a 48 hrs ultimatum for Adeosun to be arrested to face prosecution for a crime she has already admitted to have committed to avoid a mass action of Nigerians against the judicial system of this country.

Read full statement below:

The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency received the news of the fictitious judgement that freed Mrs Kemi Adeosun, ex- Finance Minister in the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari with mixed feelings.

It will be recalled that in 2018 Kemi Adeosun was accused of forging her NYSC certificate and that led to her resignation as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Before her resignation she had admitted forging the NYSC certificate that she was using and had no moral ground to continue in public office which led to her resignation. She was subsequently sneaked out of the country to avoid been arrested by security agencies which irked the anger of many Nigerians till date.

Recently Nigerians had begin to see the hands of the conspirators that sneaked her out of the country to avoid arrest rearing it’s head again. Kemi Adeosun appeared from the blues and was seen launching a foundation in Nigeria. As if that was not enough, few days ago Nigerians woke up to the rude shock of a court judgement vindicating her complicity in the forgery and possession of fake NYSC certificate days after her showmanship in Lagos.

All these took place in connivance with her conspirators in high places who are bent on soiling the reputation of the NYSC as a scheme, re-write our status as regards to Nigerian citizenship and the rule of law as applicable to all citizens of the country.

It’s quite appalling to realize that someone who had forged her way into a very sensitive position as Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic could be treated with levity instead of persecuting her to establish our sovereignty and show the world that we are a country guided by the rule of law.

CESJET wishes to draw the attention of Kemi and her handlers to the recent happenings in neighboring South Africa where a former President is currently languishing in prison for contempt of court. Kemi’s status doesn’t in any way equate to the office which Comrade Jacob Zuma once held in that country and could be tried yet our own cannot be made to account for her acts and deeds. This is a shame on all Nigerians.

The Director General of the State Security Service and the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force should immediately put her into custody to obtain her statement and trial before a court of law.

We wonder how a court could delve into the said judgement that vindicated someone who has confessed to forgery just to set a negative precedence and the bastardization of our judicial system. Especially in an incidence that has been well thought out to humiliate the people of Nigeria that have been hurt by her actions.

Her comments after the fictitious judgement expose her stubborn tenacity towards the crime she admitted to have commited and hence has the audacity to maneaover our judicial system with a glaring bizarre.

The pain of Nigerians occasioned by Kemi Adeosun who was clearly not qualified to manage our economy but yet forged her way into such an enormous position cannot be ignored. This is why the Board of CESJET join other men of good conscience to call for her immediate arrest and persecution for forgery, a crime she has already confessed to in order to appease the conscience of the good people of Nigeria for the pain they have been subjected to by her actions.

We call on well meaning Nigerians and Patriots to rise up as statesmen and protect the institutions that have made us who we are as a nation especially the judiciary to avoid these kind of embarrassing judgements emanating from our judicial system which are ridiculing the Nigeria judicial system before the international community.

We therefore give a Grace of 48 hrs for Kemi Adeosun to be arrested to face prosecution for a crime she has already admitted to have commit to avoid a mass action of Nigerians against the judicial system of this country or Mrs Kemi Adeosun should honorably surrender herself to the law enforcement authorities and ace prosecution.

Thank you
