Buhari’s Media Attacks Bishop Kuka For Informing The US Congress About The President

The Buhari Media Organization (BMO) has accused Bishop Mathew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, of providing false information during his recent testimony before the United States Congress.
It warned the US Congress to be suspicious of Kukah and to disregard his submissions.

BMO stated that the clergyman was being deliberately mischievous in his recent virtual testimony before the United States of America’s Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, where he discussed the state of insecurity and religious crisis in Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

According to Naija News, Kukah previously chastised the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration over Nigeria’s religious crisis.

Although attacks on Christians in Nigeria have occurred for many years, the outspoken cleric noted that they have increased in the last decade.

Bishop Kukah made this statement during a virtual presentation to the United States Congress in Washington, DC, on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria by Islamic extremist groups in the country’s Northern Region.

The Catholic leader testified before the US Congress that extremists, bandits, Fulani herdersmen, and Boko Haram are targeting numerous schools in the North, particularly Christian ones, with the intent of “indoctrinating the children.”

However, in a statement issued in response to the development, BMO Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke accused Kukah of ‘deliberate mischief.’

“Like many Nigerians, we were appalled to watch Bishop Kukah, a key leader of the National Peace Committee (NPC), make a presentation before a US Congress commission about alleged government-sanctioned persecution of Christians that is manifestly at odds with reality on the ground.”

“We boldly assert that banditry and insurgency in some parts of Northern Nigeria are pure criminality, not necessarily sectarian, and we are gravely concerned that Kukah, who admitted in his testimony that Muslims have also been targeted, would attempt to present criminal matters as religious cleansing or systemic persecution of Christians.”

“In fact, all indications point to the Muslim community facing more attacks from criminal elements in the North than the Catholic Bishop painted for Americans in his presentation of a worsening situation for Christians over the last decade.”

“What is more concerning is Father Kukah’s suggestion that the Buhari administration is not only powerless but also unwilling to deal decisively with bandits. Our position is that this line of thought can be advanced only by an unrepentant government critic who has purposefully refused to acknowledge the administration’s and military’s efforts to stem the tide of banditry and other security challenges in the country.”

“We simply cannot fathom how someone who lives and works in Sokoto could be unaware of the Nigerian Air Force’s numerous bombing raids on bandit hideouts in neighboring Zamfara State, including the most recent one that killed at least 120 bandits in Sububu forest the day before his skewed testimony before the US Congress.”

“The case of Bishop Kukah is not one of innocent ignorance. It is deliberate mischief, because no public affairs analyst worth his salt would be unaware that no administration in the last two decades has done more to improve the operational efficiency of the Police and other security agencies than the current one”.

“We would like to advise American legislators to be cautious of the Catholic Bishop, who, despite being the Secretary of the National Peace Committee (NPC), has done little to promote national peace. Rather than that, he consistently takes potshots at the Buhari administration.”

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has chastised President Muhammadu Buhari for approving N6.25 billion for ranching in Katsina State and disbursing N5 billion from the fund.

Ortom described the President’s action as deception and hypocrisy, given that he has advocated for the establishment of cattle routes and open grazing in other states of the federation.

He added that the President’s decision to approve such funds for Katsina while excluding other states is questionable.

2.8 billion dollars AKK Pipeline: FG seeks $1 billion in funding following a delay in Chinese funding

The $2.8 billion AKK gas pipeline ran into financing difficulties this month, as reports indicated that China’s expected financing had been delayed. The Federal Government is seeking $1 billion to continue work on the pipeline, which it hopes to connect to the Trans-Saharan pipeline from Kano, which connects Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK).

This was revealed in a report by Reuters on Friday, citing unnamed insiders at the NNPC who stated that Nigeria is still negotiating with Chinese lenders for the pipeline. According to the sources, the NNPC was still negotiating with Chinese lenders – Bank of China and Sinosure – to cover the project’s $1.8 billion cost, adding that “there is no reason for alarm.”

According to Reuters, the NNPC is actively seeking alternative financing sources after Chinese lenders initially agreed to fund the majority of the $2.8 billion project.

“Chinese leaders refused to agree to disburse the cash NNPC had anticipated by the end of the summer, forcing the company to seek alternative financing,” they said.

“They view Nigeria as a single loan, and at the moment, they believe they are overexposed,” a source told Reuters.

This comes at a time when China is reducing its funding to Africa as concerns about China’s debt default grow. Chinese lending to African governments fell by nearly a third in 2019 and is expected to continue to decline in 2020.

What you should be aware of
According to Nairametrics, the FG disclosed last month that it was considering expanding into the Trans-Saharan and European markets through the ongoing construction of the Ajaokuta, Kaduna, Kano Gas Pipeline, or AKK Gas Pipeline.

“The plan is that if we can get it to Kano, it can continue all the way to Algeria via the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline, where it will connect to the Algerian pipeline, from which it will be transported to Europe. As a result, our gas can be transported from the South to the European market. Thus, it is a critical piece of infrastructure, and the president is fully committed to it, and it is progressing well,” Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, said.

Action of APC senators a defilement of the 1999 Constitution – PDP : Electronic Transmission

0

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the decisions of the All Progressives Congress, APC, senators to vote against electronic transmission of results as a defilement of the 1999 Constitution.

On Thursday, 52 APC senators voted no to electronic transmission of election results.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the main opposition party said that the “action of the APC senators is a direct affront, novel in its recklessness and a defilement of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which clearly conferred operational independence to INEC to conduct elections, free from interferences and regulations from any other agency of government.”

The statement read:

“Electronic Transmission: @OfficialAPCNg Senators in A Haste to Murder Our Democracy, Says PDP

“The PDP and indeed majority of Nigerians are shocked over the decision of the APC-led Senate to undermine our electoral process by refusing to approve the demand by Nigerians across board for electronic transmission of election results without conditionalities.

“The action of the @OfficialAPCNg senators is an atrocious assault on the sensibilities of Nigerians, who looked up to the @NGRSenate for improvement in our electoral process in a manner that will engender free, fair and credible process.

“It is outrageous that the @OfficialAPCNg and its Senators, in their desperate bid to annex the @inecnigeria seek to route a statutorily independent commission to the approval of an individual masquerading in the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC); an agency under executive control in addition to an extra endorsement of the legislature, before conducting elections.

“This action of the @OfficialAPCNg senators is a direct affront, novel in its recklessness and a defilement of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which clearly conferred operational independence to @inecnigeria to conduct elections, free from interferences and regulations from any other agency of government.

“The decision of the @OfficialAPCNg Senators, therefore, amounts to a suspension of the 1999 constitution (as amended) which is a recipe for the crisis that could derail our democracy and destabilize our nation. It is, to say the least, preparation for mass rigging of elections across Nigeria by the @OfficialAPCNg, which must be firmly resisted.

“Our party, standing with Nigerians, however, commends the @OfficialPDPNig senators as well as other democratically minded senators in the chamber for their resilience in voting for unconditional electronic transmission of results, in line with the wishes and aspiration of Nigerians for a free, fair, clean and credible election.

“The @OfficialPDPNig however notes the efforts being made in the House of Representatives and urges lawmakers to return to the chamber tomorrow and save our nation from the machination of the @OfficialAPCNg as being pushed in the Senate.”

CP Warns Organizers Steer Clear Of Lagos: Yoruba Appraisal Forum Rally

0

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odunmosu has warned a Non-Government Organisation, under the aegis of Yoruba Appraisal Forum, to steer clear of the state as no protest will be allowed.

The Command said it has come to its notice that the organisation has concluded plans to embark on another rally slated for Friday 16th July 2021, at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, by 9 am.

A statement signed by the Command Spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that the Command has painstakingly carried out threat analysis and gathered intelligence on the proposed rally which has been considered ill-timed due to a number of security and health-related dangers it portends on Lagos State.

The command also noted that the Lagos State Government has just announced the emergence of the Delta Variance of COVID-19 pandemic in the State and increased number of COVID-19 cases recorded has forced the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to shut down while others live in the fear of the new deadly variance.

The command said this singular health-related reason is enough to halt the rally as it will definitely trigger and spread the pandemic in the state.

“In addition, a gathering of such kind at a strategic location of Ojota in Lagos State will definitely compound the traffic situation in the state due to the ongoing road rehabilitation in the area, as well as the upsurge in the movement of people in and out Lagos because of the forthcoming Eid-Kabir.
