Former President Goodluck Jonathan is welcome to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the party.

Senator John Akpanudoedehe, the APC’s National Secretary, stated this on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday night.

According to Akpanudoedehe, Jonathan, like every other new member, will be given the same rights and privileges as all other members, regardless of when they joined.

He said this in response to a question about whether rumors that the party was courting Jonathan to join and run for president in the 2023 general elections were true.

“I’m not going to speculate.” Everyone is welcome to join the APC, and we encourage everyone to do so. In terms of our progressive agenda, we are becoming more powerful. For the first time, I’m hearing that if he comes, we’ll welcome him, which is fantastic news.

More governors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to join the APC before December, according to Akpanudoedehe.

Buhari welcomes Bello to the APC and explains why the Zamfara government dumped the PDP.

Gerard Pique reacts to Barcelona’s Champions League loss to Bayern Munich

Gerard Pique, a Barcelona defender, claims he has no idea how many “kids” Barcelona used against Bayern Munich.

Pique made the remark after Barcelona’s 3-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

Barcelona’s quest to win the Champions League without Lionel Messi began with a home defeat to Bayern Munich.

Thomas Muller scored once before Robert Lewandowski’s second-half brace gave Bayern Munich an emphatic victory.

As a result of the result, Barcelona has now lost their last three Champions League home matches.

Pique, on the other hand, was dissatisfied after the game, citing the lack of experienced options on the Barcelona bench as a major concern moving forward.

“We competed in the first half, Bayern took the lead on a deflected goal,” Pique said after the game in his post-game press conference.

“At the end of the day, I’m not sure how many kids we had on. “It is what it is, and we are what we are,” says the narrator.

Barcelona’s next LaLiga match will be against Granada on Monday.

UN condemns school attacks and calls for further efforts to protect students

Mr. Edward Kallon, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, has strongly denounced the ongoing attacks on schools and kidnappings that have impacted hundreds of children across the country.

In a statement commemorating the 2021 International Day to Protect Education from Attack, Kallon stated that school attacks are a direct attack on the future generation, adding that it is traumatic for the children, undermines their individual dignity, and sometimes leads affected families to withdraw their children from school entirely.

He condemned the attacks and called on the federal and state governments to do more to protect schools and guarantee that teaching and learning are safe and conducive in all Nigerian institutions.

When teaching and learning are disturbed, the impact on human capital development is huge, according to the Resident Coordinator, because the recovery phase is always tortuous and longer than the duration of the initial disruption.

Nigeria, he believes, cannot afford to allow the ongoing attacks on schools to continue unabated. “Children have been traumatized; parents have been terrified; teachers and school administrators have been terrified; and school attacks are increasingly extending to locations where insurgencies are unknown. Nigeria’s collective future is jeopardized because of attacks on education. This has to come to an end right now.”

He urged the government to assess progress in implementing the declaration’s safe school provisions and to fully implement commitments made in 2019 by taking decisive measures to protect education and allow “our wonderful nation’s youth the chance to achieve their promise.”

Kallon explained that the right to education was frequently violated, particularly in conflict-affected places where entire populations may be denied access to education.

“With over 10 million children already out of school, violence has exacerbated the situation and had a significant impact on education and the future of many young people, particularly the most vulnerable,” he continued. In Nigeria, it is believed that 1.3 million children were affected by school attacks or abductions during the previous academic year.”

According to the statement, over 600,000 children are still out of school in the north-east region, with 1.1 million need educational assistance to stay in school. All of this has been made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic’s setbacks.

“UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, has been working hard to expand the availability of classrooms and teachers in Nigeria’s most conflict-affected regions,” according to the statement. In addition, the Agency has been assisting the Nigerian government in implementing the Safe Schools Declaration, which was ratified in 2019. According to UNESCO, there have been 13,400 instances of assaults on educational facilities globally in the last five years, with more than 22,000 students and instructors injured or killed.

“The International Day to Protect Education from Attack aims to raise awareness of the plight of children growing up without access to education in conflict-affected countries. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognizes education as a fundamental human right. It is a critical factor in promoting peace, building just societies, and encouraging long-term development.”

Anti-open grazing: Governor Ugwuanyi a shining light in Igboland – Ohanaeze

On Wednesday, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, praised Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for signing the state’s anti-open grazing bill into law.

Governor Ugwuanyi signed the bill into law on Tuesday at Government House in Enugu, according to reports.

The Enugu State House of Assembly recently passed a bill prohibiting open grazing, regulating cattle ranching, and for other related purposes.

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described Gov. Ugwuanyi as a shining example in a statement made available to journalists.

“We have always said that governance is not about making noise, but it is a lot about action,” Okwu said. Governor Ugwuanyi is a man who does a lot for the people but says little in the media.

“While governors are squabbling over open grazing, he has once again demonstrated that he is a man of the people. He has engraved his name in gold, and history will remember him for it.

“When it mattered most, he put politics aside and stood up in defense of Enugu people’s lives and property. In Igboland, he is now a mirror, a shining light.

“We, the millions of Igbo youths, salute his extraordinary bravery and pledge our unwavering support. He must remain unwavering in his commitment to the safety of our people. He has proven to be a man we can put our trust in when it comes to power at any level.”

The OYC, on the other hand, was dissatisfied with other states in the zone, accusing them of only paying lip service to the open-grazing ban.

Since the Southern Governors announced a total ban on open cattle rearing, no other state in the South-East has passed the anti-open grazing bill into law, with the exception of Enugu.

“This is unacceptable, and we have previously stated that if anything bad happens to any Igbo community, the governors will be held responsible. They cannot put our people’s lives on the altar of politics,” Okwu warned.

He urged the Southern Governors, who will meet in Enugu on Thursday, to persuade all of their members to support the ban.

He went on to say, “We heartily welcome them to Enugu, a very peaceful State, and urge them to ensure that the resolutions they make during these meetings are implemented by all member states.”

BREAKING: Notorious ISWAP Commander, Al-Barnawi Killed [PHOTO]

0

The leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province(ISWAP), Abu Musab Al-Barnawi is dead.

It was gathered that the notorious terrorist was killed in August 2021. He was the son of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, who was gruesomely shot dead by security agents in 2009.

Al-Barnawi rose to power in 2016 when he was announced as the leader of the Islamic State’s West African affiliate Boko Haram, which was being led by Abubakar Shekau. This development caused a serious rift within the terrorist group.

It can be recalled that Shekau had sworn allegiance to ISWAP in 2015. His removal in 2016 leading to the rise of Albarnawi, split the terrorist group into two factions.

Shekau had solid control over Sambisa forest and part of the Mandara Mountains while Albarnawi controlled large territory in Northern Borno, imposed taxes on the local population and earned serious income from fishing.

In May 2021, Reports emerged that Shekau killed himself after ISWAP fighters engaged him in a fierce battle in one of his enclaves in Sambisa Forest. Albarnawi celebrated Shekau’s demise.

However, his death is shockingly coming two months after Shekau’s. According to sources, he was killed around Bula Yobe, a community near the Borno/Yobe states border along Mobbar and Abadam axis that leads to the Lake Chad area.

Circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear but reliable sources disclose that a leadership tussle within his group led to his death.

As gunmen kidnap a woman and her children in Zaria, a soldier and a bandit are killed

Bandits raided Milgoma, a hamlet near the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Kaduna state, and killed one soldier and kidnapped four others.

A wife, her daughter, and two sons were among those seized by the gunman.

However, the Kaduna police and military authorities have yet to corroborate the alleged occurrence on Monday night.

In an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, the Secretary of the Milgoma community, simply known as Sani, said that the bandits stormed the region in huge numbers around 9 p.m.

They proceeded straight to the home of a male lecturer at Kaduna State University, he added, with the goal of kidnapping him.

According to Sani, soldiers stationed in the region responded quickly to a distress call from nearby neighbors.

The criminals quickly attacked the security personnel in a furious fire battle as they saw them, he explained.

One of the troops who advanced to the lecturer’s home was reportedly shot by gunmen who had already set up an ambush around the compound.

The security worker was taken to a hospital and later died, according to reports.

Soldiers, on the other hand, uncovered the body of one of the bandits who died from bullet wounds.

The soldiers, according to Sani, were able to prevent the criminals from seizing the lecturer.

The shooters then moved to another part of the town, where they abducted the woman and her three children, he claimed.

Milgoma was attacked a day after gunmen killed 12 people in Peigyim hamlet in the state’s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, reported that the community was attacked on Sunday night, with intruders opening fire on the residents.

Two additional residents were hurt in the incident and were transported to the hospital for treatment, while the state’s security services stated they were already searching the area in the hopes of apprehending the offenders.
