Under Governor Seyi Makinde’s direction, the Oyo State government has proclaimed Friday, June 27, to be a day off for all employees.
Professor Olanike Adeyemo, the Secretary to the State Government, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, June 25.

In honor of Hijrah, the start of the new Islamic calendar, the day was deemed work-free, according to Naija News. Smartphones from POCO

The message urged Muslims and other state citizens to commemorate the Islamic New Year and consider the occasion’s spiritual meaning.

Governor Makinde asked the state’s citizens to use the occasion to offer prayers for long-term peace, harmony, and prosperity for Oyo State and, by extension, Nigeria.

Part of the statement said, “The Governor encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to pray for the peace, harmony, and prosperity of the state in particular, and the nation in general.”

The notification states that the holiday is to be observed in all state offices and public institutions.

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’s (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate, has claimed that the government is more terrified of unarmed demonstrators than of violent threats.

In an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Sowore reportedly stated this while denouncing the government’s continued crackdown on nonviolent demonstrators.

Sowore responded, “I do,” when asked if he thought the administration was afraid of protesters. I fully do. Because they are capable of responding to those who are shooting at the government, but lack the ability, capacity, and plan to stop the majority, they are more terrified of placards than they are of firearms.

“They are more dangerous when their light numbers are carrying placards than when they are carrying guns.”

Mama Boko Haram Faces Justice Again – Slapped with 14-Year Jail Term

On Wednesday, Aisha Alkali Wakil, better known as Mama Boko Haram, Tahiru Saidu Daura, and Prince Lawal Shoyode were found guilty by Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri. Each of them was given a 14-year prison sentence.
According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the development in a statement released on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.
On September 14, 2020, the EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate placed the defendants before the court on a two-count accusation of conspiracy and acquiring ₦11 million under false pretenses.

In July 2018, in Maiduguri, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, you, Aisha Alkali Wakil, Tahiru Saidu Daura, and Prince Lawal Shoyode, while serving as Chief Executive Officer, Programme Manager, and Country Director, respectively, of Complete Care and Aids Foundation (a Non-Governmental Organization), along with Saidu Mukhtar (who is currently at large), obtained ₦11 million from Muhammad Ambare of Muhammed Ambare Ventures under the false pretense of signing a purported contract for the supply, installation, and servicing of two units of X-Ray Machine Model 1800, which you knew to be untrue. This was a violation of Section 1(1)(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and is punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

However, when the accusations were brought, the defendants entered a not guilty plea, which resulted in a full trial.

It was understood that Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, the prosecution’s attorney, and S. O. Saka called one witness and provided the court with a number of papers to support their case throughout the trial. Smartphones that are accessible

Justice Kumaliya delivered the verdict on Wednesday, convicting the defendants on counts one and two and sending them to seven years in prison each, following several adjournments that the defendants had asked.

Concurrent service of the sentences is required.

The judge ordered the prisoners to pay back N8 million to the petitioner both individually and collectively, or else they would be sentenced to seven more years in prison.

The inmates’ journey to the correctional facility began as a result of their dishonest behavior in giving the petitioner and his business false contracts for the provision, installation, and maintenance of two X-Ray Machine Model 1800 units.

Neither the contract nor the money were completed after they forced the petitioner to transfer ₦11 million into the account of a third person, Saidu Muktar, who is currently at large.

The CEO of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Complete Care and Aid Foundation, Aishal Wakil, also known as Mama Boko Haram, and two other officials from her group were sentenced to five years in prison each six months ago for their roles in a fraud involving more than ₦6 million. Tahiru Saidu Daura, the NGO’s program manager, and Prince Lawal Shoyode, the organization’s country director, are the other two people that were jailed with Mama Boko Haram.

“Placards Scare Them More Than Bullets” – Sowore Slams Government

The government is more terrified of unarmed protestors than of violent threats, according to Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’ (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate.
Sowore stated this in an appearance on Arise Television on Wednesday, according to reports, while denouncing the government’s continued repression of nonviolent demonstrators.
When asked if he thought the administration was afraid of protesters, Sowore replied, “I do.” I totally do. They fear placards more than they fear firearms because, although they are capable of responding to those who are shooting at the government, they lack the ability, capacity, and plan to stop the majority.

It is more perilous for them in their light numbers to carry placards than for those with guns.
In addition, Sowore called the government’s treatment of the 11 #EndBadGovernance treason trial “politically motivated and without merit.”

“As is common in Nigerian law enforcement, the prosecutors in this case came to court requesting an adjournment, stating that the police officer who initiated the prosecution had retired, which is untrue,” he stated. He was not retired. He changed his age, which led to his termination from the police force. First of all, the person who made the charges will also be charged around a week from now for changing his age.

Most certainly, those were minors. Yes. And the allegations were promptly dropped due to the embarrassment that accompanied that. They wish to keep using these, however, in order to deter future innocent protesters.

IBB Stands Firm: Protecting Northern Interests Is Non-Negotiable

According to General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), a former military president, Northern Nigeria needs powerful supporters who would genuinely work to improve the region and protect its interests.
According to reports, IBB said this while officials from the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative, led by Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the former governor of Sokoto State and chairman of the organization’s board of trustees, visited his hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday.
IBB extended his support and applauded the initiative to start the movement.

He underlined that, especially at this point in Nigerian history, the North needs a movement of this kind supported by respectable people like Alhaji Bafarawa and the movement’s director general, Dr. Abdullahi Idris.
He asked the Arewa cohesion authorities to continue to be steadfast in protecting the country’s interests as well as those of the north.

“This new advocacy group for northern unity and good governance has emerged at a critical time when the region needs strong voices,” the former military leader said.

According to Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the Arewa Cohesion Movement was founded because the North needs a strong voice to protect its interests in national affairs.

Nigerians Will Sleep Better If There Is Peace – Bafarawa
Both the North and Nigeria urgently need peace and efficient democratic processes to fulfill the demands of the people, Alhaji Bafarawa said in a press conference after his conversation with IBB about the situation of the country and the future of the North.

He stressed that it is improper to blame Nigeria’s problems on any one area and called on leaders and citizens to stand together in order to progress the country.

“We’ve come to see how our leader is doing and to get his opinion on the state of affairs and how to proceed with Nigeria.

Therefore, it is up to us to figure out how we can help ourselves—not even the government. Nigerians will sleep comfortably if there is calm. Thus, it is our responsibility to explore what we can do to help the north and the nation as a whole advance.

When we explained the reason for our visit, he blessed us and promised to continue guiding us in all that we do.

“This nation needs peace and harmony. Furthermore, democracy cannot exist without opposition. Thus, we must let democracy flourish. Thus, I fail to see why anyone should claim that there is no opposition.
“I am currently on sabbatical leave. I haven’t given politics up entirely. But as of right now, I am not a member of the APC, the PDP, or any other political party—not even the coalition movement. I’m conducting my politics in a really constructive manner so that people will see what it’s all about. According to Bafarawa, “even if we are going to help anybody, you have to come up with a blueprint to tell us the problems and we see how we can assist and support you to move our region and the country forward.”

Bafarawa stated that it is incorrect to attribute the nation’s problems to a specific area, stating that “if your head or your eye is sick, it will affect all your body.” No Nigerian understands this nonsense of referring to the North or the South. Let’s make sure Nigeria is a part of anything we do.

The initiative’s goal, according to Dr. Abdullahi Idris, Director General of Arewa Cohesion, is to “promote unity and development in the North, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to foster the region’s progress.”

He stated that Nigerians are not happy with the current security issues, emphasizing the need for group efforts to effect positive change.

He conveyed his appreciation to the former president for his cooperation and support of the cause.

NEC Holds the Key to PDP’s Future — Bode George on Anyanwu Saga

0

Bode George, a PDP chieftain and member of the party’s board of trustees, has denied claims that Nyesom Wike’s dominance in the opposition party is reflected in the appointment of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.
George insisted that the party’s best interests guided the decision to recognize Anyanwu and that no one person had any influence on it in an interview with Punch on Wednesday.
George responded, “Absolutely not!” when asked if the action indicated the PDP had given up to Wike.

“Let us meet at the NEC,” he added. You will find out who is winning and who is losing at the NEC meeting.

George emphasized that at the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025, all unresolved matters pertaining to the role of the National Secretary will be settled.
“Any decision made at NEC is final,” he said. For reasons that are most well-known within the party, Anyanwu’s return as PDP National Secretary carries a lot of implications. As an elder, I am appealing to all parties, particularly the irate ones. They ought to relax. We shall resolve our internal issues when we meet.

The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP emphasized that no one individual can take control of the PDP organization, taking a subtle jab at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Our party is different from the APC, which is owned by an individual,” he stated. We are pleading with all parties to consider peace. We’ll figure things out, but I have to say that one person cannot outweigh this party.

“There is a saying in Yoruba land that when you prostrate for a dwarf, you will still be taller than the dwarf when you get up,” George continued, using a Yoruba proverb to support his argument.

George cautioned that the PDP needs to reorient itself in advance of the general elections in 2027 and asked all party members to cease viewing events as a win-or-lose scenario.

“There is nothing permanent in this life,” he continued. We shouldn’t assign a winner or a loser to this event (Anyanwu’s comeback).

“We must settle down to present to the people, and Nigerians are anticipating improved governance in 2027.”

Actress Toyin Abraham Showers Love on Husband Kolawole Ajeyemi

Toyin Abraham, a Nollywood actress, has expressed satisfaction and fulfillment following her marriage to Kolawole Ajayemi.
In an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Toyin praised her marriage to Kolawole while recalling her previous relationship with actor Adeniyi Johnson.
The actress revealed that her family had doubts about her marriage to Johnson, explaining why they divorced after two years.

Toyin revealed that her family had sought heavenly direction and conveyed concerns about the marriage’s chances of failure, but she ignored them.

The film star described her marriage to Kolawole as one based on understanding, love, and mutual support.
She explained that their bond became stronger through shared experiences and religion, eventually leading to marriage and the blessing of two children.

She stated, “In real life, he is quite peaceful, a prayer warrior; whenever I visit Abeokuta, he is always present. So we became closer and then started dating. I didn’t want anyone to know at first, but I eventually developed feelings for him. I’ll accompany him to work whenever he decides. As time passed, I stopped caring what others thought, so I introduced him to my parents, and he took me to his, and we had a brief introduction before I became pregnant and married.

“I came from a Christian household, so my family prayed about it, and God revealed that he was my husband. Now we have two children: a boy and a girl. Trust me: I married one of the best. I won’t say the best because I like other people’s marriages, such as my godmother’s, but my spouse is one of the best.

Waziri Title Stripped from Atiku as Adamawa Implements New Indigene Guidelines

0

Following the adoption of a new policy that prohibits non-indigenous people from holding positions as kingmakers or members of traditional councils, the Adamawa State Government has terminated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s traditional title of Wazirin Adamawa.

Atiku, who was given the title by Muhammadu Barkindo, the Lamido of Adamawa, in November 2018, is not an indigenous person of the Adamawa Emirate, where the Waziri title is given. Instead, he is originally from Jada in the Ganye Emirate.

Adama Felicity Mamman, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Chieftaincy Affairs, signed a circular dated June 19, 2025, which issued the directive. All traditional councils are required by the circular to promptly dismiss kingmakers and council members who are not native to their respective chiefdoms or emirates.

The circular said:

“All state council members and kingmakers must be natives of their respective chiefdoms. However, regardless of their place of origin in the local government, people with solely honorary traditional titles are free to keep their jobs.

Under the new rules, Atiku, who was promoted from Turakin Adamawa to Wazirin Adamawa, is effectively no longer able to serve on the Adamawa Emirate Council.

Humwashi Wonosikou, the chief press secretary for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, responded to questions by stating that while the directive is not new, it is now being formally implemented. Although Atiku has lived and registered to vote in Yola for a long time, he pointed out that only the Lamido of Adamawa can decide whether he is an indigenous person.

Additionally, Wonosikou denied rumors that Governor Fintiri and Atiku were at odds politically, stating that the policy is only administrative in nature. A rift does not exist between them. He stated, “The directive aims to ensure loyalty and integrity within traditional councils.”

Following the adoption of a new chieftaincy law by the Adamawa State House of Assembly in December 2024, seven new emirates and chiefdoms were established. This brought the state’s total number of traditional councils to 14.

The former vice president’s traditional title is unaffected by any formal message, according to Paul Ibe, Atiku’s spokesperson.

The Okanga Brothers: A Brotherhood of Loyalty, Purpose, and Progress

0

Behind every great leader is a movement and behind Okanga is a family of fire-hearted men and youths known proudly as the Okanga Brothers.
They are not just followers. They are not just supporters. They are believers: men who have seen in Chief Dr. Philip Agbese a leader worth standing with, fighting for, and building alongside.
Across Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo, the Okanga Brothers have become a symbol of loyalty, unity, and dedication. Young men who have found purpose in service. Elders who have found hope in Okanga’s vision. Farmers, students, artisans, professionals all united by one thing: unshakable belief in a man who has never failed his people.
They are the first to arrive at community events and the last to leave.
They are the ones rallying support at the grassroots not for money, but for mission.
They don’t serve for titles. They serve because they see themselves in Okanga and Okanga sees himself in them.
The Okanga Brothers are more than a political network, they are a brotherhood of purpose. Through thick and thin, they’ve walked beside Okanga, not only during campaigns, but also during moments of sorrow, insecurity, rebuilding, and growth. They are there when communities need to be mobilized. They are there when bridges need to be built, both literal and social.
And Okanga? He doesn’t take them for granted. He knows each face, each name, and each story. To him, they are not political tools, they are family.
He empowers them with opportunities. He listens to them. He lifts them. Because he knows that real leadership is not about climbing up alone, it’s about taking your people with you.

Ndume: El-Rufai Got What He Deserved, But Tinubu’s Role Still Baffles Me

0

Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has commented on the political repercussions between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, saying that although El-Rufai might have deserved to be left off the ministerial list, it is still unclear why.

Ndume, who played a pivotal role in Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign, expressed surprise at El-Rufai’s exclusion from the cabinet in an appearance on Arise Television on Tuesday night.

El-Rufai was meant to be on Amaechi’s side, which is our side. Nevertheless, he took action to back Tinubu. And as he correctly stated, Tinubu invited him to join the team. El-Rufai left our group, therefore I haven’t been close to him since,” Ndume remarked.

He pointed out that during the APC presidential primary, El-Rufai first sided with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, but he later changed sides and emerged as a crucial member of Tinubu’s campaign apparatus.

Tinubu proposed El-Rufai for a ministry position after the election victory. However, El-Rufai’s name was inexplicably removed off the final list even though she was given a warm reception and the “take a bow and go” treatment during Senate screening.

“He did a lot for Tinubu and really mobilized.” He was nominated by the president, but I still don’t understand what transpired. But that’s none of my concern,” Ndume said.

By suggesting that El-Rufai’s treatment was a reflection of his own previous behavior, the senator alluded to political karma.

“You also did that to us. It’s retaliation against you. Even though I don’t like El-Rufai, the facts must be stated,” he continued.

Ndume called President Tinubu’s decision to fire El-Rufai following his verified campaign contributions a mistake.

Mr. President made a mistake there. When El-Rufai entered the room, we requested him to bow and go. He already had plans in place and had the experience. “I was prepared,” he declared.

Within political circles, the rift between Tinubu and El-Rufai is still causing people to wonder what causes led to the surprise choice.
