0

Tino Livramento, a former Chelsea right-back, has spoken out about his sentiments since leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer.

In the summer transfer window, Livramento moved from Chelsea to Southampton.

Under Thomas Tuchel’s management at Chelsea, the 18-year-old was unable to break into the first squad.

“Regrets?” Livramento remarked in an interview with the Mirror. It would have been lovely to play a game, but I had to consider my own needs.

“Everyone concerned had to make a difficult decision. They agreed that it was also in my best interests, and they have always taken care of me.”

On Monday, a Department of State Services (DSS) security official was assassinated in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

The incident occurred less than 48 hours after the agency’s offices in Nnewi, Anambra State, were destroyed.

According to our sources, the officer, Prince Nwachinaemere Ezemuonye Ozuzu of Umuoyo, Irete in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen on the Owerri-Onitsha route on Monday.

The officer was alleged to have been dispatched to Anambra for official assignment just hours after the DSS headquarters in Nnewi was set ablaze.

He was said to have been murdered on his way back to his station.

Another story claimed that he was killed in an unintentional discharge from the gun of one of his teammates with whom he was on a combined task force returning to Owerri.

Deacon Daniel Opara, one of his cousins who corroborated the occurrence, called it as unfortunate.

“We are still waiting for the specifics of what happened,” he added, adding that he was allegedly murdered by an accidental fire from the gun of a police officer with whom he was on assignment in Anambra State.

Senate approves NURC’s four-member board

President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of a four-man board for the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NURC) has been confirmed by the Senate.

Isa Ibrahim Modibbo, Chairman; Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive; Hassan Gambo, Executive Commissioner, Finance and Accounts; and Ms Rose Ndong, Executive Commissioner, Exploration and Acreage Management, are among the confirmed nominees.

Following examination of a report by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, the nominees were confirmed in plenary on Wednesday.

Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, Chairman of the Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), said the nominees demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the petroleum industry, particularly the upstream petroleum sector, as well as the economics of petroleum exploration and production, when presenting the report.

He further stated that the nominees’ nominations complied with Sections 11 and 18 (1-5) of the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021.

“There are no adverse complaints against the nominees,” he says, “because record checks and other sorts of security agency investigations revealed no bad trace against them.”

The committee was satisfied with the applicants’ qualifications, experience, fitness, competence, and integrity to serve as NURC chairman, chief executive, and executive commissioners, according to Akpan.

The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, stated that the NURC’s founding will create a platform for the stabilization of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

“As established in the Petroleum Industry Act, the Regulatory Commission has the great and huge responsibility of setting and establishing the commission,” he said.

“They have the unpleasant task of ensuring that they devote themselves and work hard to lay a solid and sturdy foundation for that subject, and that they do not waste time because time is of the importance.

“The petroleum business is undergoing change, and the process has already begun.

“This commission is one of the major pillars of the reforms that will bring Nigeria’s petroleum industry back into balance.

“We expect nothing less than devotion and patriotism from them while the Senate confirms them.” As they take their seats in the Senate, the Senate bids them well and wishes them a long and prosperous stay.

“We anticipate that the additional regulatory authorities for downstream and midstream will be confirmed as quickly as possible, allowing them to get to work right away.”

COVID-19 vaccine to begin in private hospitals- FG

0

Dr. Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has announced that his organization has begun implementing decentralization of vaccine consumption by integrating the private sector in vaccine administration.

Private hospitals that meet the requirements would be given COVID-19 vaccinations to administer to eligible Nigerians under this arrangement.

Shuaib made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to him, the decentralization of the COVID-19 immunization program is in response to indications that Nigeria will get a large supply of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility in the coming months, necessitating an efficient and faster approach to use them.

The immunizations, according to the NPHCDA’s director, will be administered at private health facilities with the help of government health professionals.

“In the next months, Nigeria will receive more doses of COVID-19 vaccinations through the COVAX facility,” Shuaib stated.

“We predict that the vaccinations would be in enormous quantities, necessitating more efficient and speedier methods of administration, including expanding vaccine access.

“As a result, we’ve begun to execute vaccine decentralisation by enlisting the help of the private sector in vaccination administration.

“At the moment, COVID-19 vaccines are only available at government-run clinics. As we decentralize, private health institutions that meet the criteria will be given COVID-19 vaccinations after their immunization service providers have been properly trained. Vaccinations will continue in private health facilities with the assistance of government health professionals.

“Clients will then be able to get COVID-19 vaccines at both government and private health care facilities throughout the country.

“This will be carried out at several levels, including state and local governments. We are taking every precaution to ensure that the decentralization policy is not tainted when it is implemented. Private health-care facilities will be carefully chosen based on transparent qualifying criteria, and oversight will be increased to ensure discipline and adherence to safety regulations.

“As I have stated, the goal is to increase access to COVID-19 vaccinations while also ensuring efficient and safe vaccine administration.”

Dr. Shuaib, on the other hand, reported that his agency received 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccinations from the COVAX facility yesterday (Monday) evening as a gift from the French government, as well as assurance that it will receive 3,577,860 doses of Pfizer vaccines within the next two weeks.

He also stated that Nigeria is not on the UK government’s red list of countries that must be quarantined for 14 days in a supervised UK facility, as stated in a statement made two days ago.

According to him, the UK government’s stance is in accordance with a press statement issued last week that Nigerians will continue to isolate once they get in the UK. This is identical to our demand that visitors from the United Kingdom isolate for seven days after arriving in Nigeria.

“The vaccines delivered in Nigeria have been approved by the UK Government, according to my conversations with UK government officials.

“Through the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), they are also participating with the vaccination program in Nigeria, and they are optimistic that Nigeria’s COVID-19 vaccination program certification will be accepted by the time it is assessed.

“Because there are so many countries in the world, we, like so many others, are in line for this assessment. We are more than likely to get accepted in the coming weeks whenever it comes to our time. The assessment process would take place in phases, as the UK government has said clearly.”

Insecurity: Plateau govt creates committee to route and automate tricycle operations

0

The Ministry of Transport has established a committee to set in motion the registration and routing of tricycles as a pilot towards the automation of transportation services in Plateau State, in an effort to reduce security and other challenges faced by passengers and commuters in Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

The state government stated that it was necessary due to the criminal activities of some tricycle operators, particularly after the recent security breach in the areas, where some operators were involved in the murder of innocent persons who had boarded the tricycle.

This was revealed by the state’s Commissioner of Transport, Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar, at the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos, during the inauguration of the Committee for the Ministerial Registration and Routing of Tricycle Operations in Jos and Bukuru metropolitan.

“The inauguration of the Ministerial committee I established to set the machinery in motion for the registration and routing of tricycles as a pilot project towards the automation of Plateau State’s transportation services,” Abubakar added.

“This became critical in implementing worldwide best practices to address security and other issues that travelers and commuters face on our roads. The recent tragic events in our beautiful state serve as a reminder of this fact.”

“Despite the government’s massive investment in achieving peace and tranquillity in Plateau State, it became embarrassing to note that some tricycle operators were reportedly involved in the carnage responsible for the untimely demise of some law-abiding and innocent citizens using the tricycles as suppose convenient means of transportation from one destination to another within the m,” he said.

“This prompted the Plateau State government, led by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, to place a ban on the operating of tricycles throughout the state. While the motorcycle ban remains in place, the government has heard the people’s cries and lifted the tricycle ban in order to restore peace and allow lawful enterprises to resume throughout the state.

“In order to achieve this, the government, security operatives, my ministry, in conjunction with stakeholders and other well-meaning individuals, will not rest until law, order, and peaceful cohabitation are restored in Plateau State.

“As a result, this committee must begin the process of registering all tricycles, their owners, and operators, as well as identifying specific routes and parks for each tricycle operator.”

He went on to say that the Plateau State Information, Communication, and Technology Development Agency is working hard to automate the transportation subsector (PICTDA).

“The government recognizes the strategic importance of transportation in all aspects of life.

“The state’s economy would suffer if it did not have a safe, secure, and convenient transportation infrastructure. As a result, the government is concerned about and committed to improving Plateau State’s transportation system.

“As a result of these, the ministry carefully selected professionals from sister agencies to form this committee with clear terms of reference, to electronically capture the identity and biometric data of tricycle operators and owners, as well as to identify routes and parks to assign each tricycle with an inscription of their registration and phone numbers on the tricycles for easy id,” says the ministry.

Men from the Nigeria Immigration Service, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Federal Road Safety Commission, Vehicle Inspection Officers, and officials from the Ministry of Transport were among those who were inaugurated.

In Kaduna, motorcycle riders accuse security agencies of extortion

0

Commercial and private motorcyclists in Kaduna State have accused security officials, mainly the police, of extortion in implementing the state’s motorbike ban.

As part of measures to combat bandit activity in the state, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced on Wednesday a ban on the use of commercial and private motorbikes across the state’s 23 local government units.

Despite IPOB’s threats, INEC persists on holding the Anambra gubernatorial election on November 6.

The police charged between N5,000 and N10,000 before releasing confiscated motorcycles, according to a private motorcyclist who did not want his name used.

Idris Mohammed, the Secretary of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle, Tricycle, and Riders (ACOMORAN), reported that several police officers travelled across the city a few days ago to evict motorcycles parked in mosque grounds.

“Some of the security officers implementing the legislation are harassing and intimidating people, as well as extorting money. But it’s possible that the top commanders are unaware of what’s going on, which is why they need to keep an eye on people on the ground,” he said.

He requested the state administration to extend the operating hours of tricycle operators from 7 p.m. to at least 9 or 10 p.m. to help the masses.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has warned that any officers discovered extorting motorbike riders will be prosecuted, and has urged the public to report any erring officers.

ASP Mohammed Jalige, a Police Public Relations Officer, warned in a discussion that only the courts, not the police, could fine those arrested.

“What I know is that we have issued signals to all DPOs informing them that they must provide us with the number of impounded motorcycles and those who have broken the law in their divisions. Only the court, not the police, will decide how much the defaulters would pay in fines,” he explained.

Anambra gubernatorial election on November 6, no going back, says INEC

0

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned that the increased insecurity in Anambra State could be related to the November 6 governorship election, but that it is committed to holding the election.

According to current intelligence, individuals attacking the Commission’s offices and other public institutions in the State intend to prevent the governorship election from taking place.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), revealed this at an emergency meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

He pointed out that the significance of election security in a governorship race has never been greater.

Yakubu, on the other hand, warned that if INEC loses critical materials and facilities again, the ongoing election preparations will be jeopardized.

“From the reports we’ve received, many of the assailants’ declared purpose is to prevent the Governorship election slated for November 6, 2021 from taking place,” he said.

“The Commission is concerned about this. We are quite afraid that certain voting facilities and materials could be targeted once more.

“Recall that our State Office in Awka was attacked in May of this year, and all of the non-sensitive election materials assembled at the time were destroyed. In addition, our store, collation center, and main office building were all damaged to some extent. The Poll Commission also lost a number of cars that were supposed to be used for the election.

“We have, thankfully, nearly fully recovered from the attack. The devastated structures have either been totally reconstructed or are nearing completion, and the materials that were destroyed have been completely replaced.

“Only because this is an off-season election has this swift recovery been feasible. We obtained some of these materials from neighboring countries, such as the 326 electric generators and vehicles destroyed in the raid.

“However, if we lose critical materials and facilities again, the ongoing preparations will be jeopardized.”

“We want to reassure the people of Anambra State that the Commission is committed to holding the poll as planned,” he said. To demonstrate its commitment, the Commission is adding two more activities to the election schedule in the coming days.

“On Thursday, October 7th, 2021, the voter registration will be given to political parties in Awka. On the same day, the Commission will release the election’s final candidate list.

“We are convinced that by the end of this conference, we will have agreed on precise steps to ensure the safety of all election participants, including voters, election officials, observers, media organizations, and voting materials.”

Representatives from the National Security Adviser, the military, the police, and other security agencies were present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, governors and other leaders from the South East geopolitical zone emerged from a protracted emergency security meeting without saying anything about arrested IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for whom a weekly sit-at-home protest had been held across the zone.

“The Governors and Leaders of the South East condemned,” the leaders declared in a communique produced at the end of the meeting and read by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state.

the region’s atrocities and have committed to work together.

The group also determined that governors and other people should “condemn the sit-at-home directives, which are largely issued by our people in diaspora who do not feel the pains,” according to the statement.

do all within the law to ensure that there are no more sit-at-home zones in the South East and that individuals are free to move around freely throughout the zone.”

“The meeting agreed the South East Ebubeagu security outfit be launched in all the South East States and laws passed in various South East States before the end of 2021,” the leaders said.

The leaders also recognized receiving the report from the “Ohanaeze Committee on different issues impacting the South East, particularly on the problem of security and marginalization of the South East.”

people, and determined to review the Ohanaeze Worldwide reports for urgent implementation, as well as engage with the Federal Government for a peaceful resolution of all issues stirring the minds of our people, particularly the youths.”

The leaders agreed to assist security forces in restoring peace in the South East; they also determined to support the November 6 election in Anambra State and instructed security authorities to completely ensure a peaceful election.

Leaders from major religious organizations in the zone, as well as royal fathers, community leaders, youth and women leaders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership, elected office holders, National Assembly members from the zone, and retired military and security top brass from the zone, were all in attendance at the meeting.

kidnappers are now operating from motor parks, Police warns

0

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning to motor park operators, warning them to be cautious since kidnappers have devised a new method of operating from the parks.

The warning was issued by the Force Spokesman, Frank Mba, a Commissioner of Police (CP), as 34 alleged criminals, including two women, were paraded in Abuja on Tuesday.

The suspects were apprehended by Special Tactical Squad (STS) operatives for kidnapping, cattle rustling, cross-border automobile snatching, gun-running, and armed robbery, among other crimes.

The suspects were found with 11 grenades, five teargas canisters, two AK-47 rifles, and other weapons.

Kidnappers are now utilising designated motor parks as their operational centers in all states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, according to the Force Spokesman.

“Kidnappers would go to a prearranged motor park, load passengers, and leave the park in a lawful manner, then communicate with other members of their abduction gang about their whereabouts.

“Unbeknownst to them, the passengers would continue on their journey, only for the driver to pull over to the agreed-upon location, where all of the passengers would be kidnapped and the driver would be released,” Mba claimed.

According to him, the police became aware of the new tactic after the arrest of Basiru Sule, a 25-year-old Kano resident whose gang members were operating on highways in the country’s Northeast and North West zones.

As a result, he urged motor park operators around the country to take note of the new development and work closely with the police to monitor the activities of their employees and other criminal elements posing as drivers.

CP Mba promised that the police will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend and prosecute additional members of the kidnapping gang.

An 11-man kidnapping group, which included two ladies, was among those exhibited. The group, led by Mallam Musa Ibrahim, was alleged to be operating in Abuja and Kaduna before being apprehended.

Because of their gender and form of dress, the two ladies, according to Mba, played crucial roles in the movements of the kidnappers’ weapons. They frequently concealed firearms under their gowns.

Among those paraded was a group of trans-border car snatchers who specialized in stealing exotic cars in Nigeria and transporting them to neighboring Chad and the Niger Republic.

The suspects were found with 15 advanced cars, mostly Toyota models, two communication jammers, ECOWAS documents, and other incriminating things, according to the Force Spokesman.

Mba has therefore appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, and other northern states whose cars have gone missing, to come to Abuja to inspect the recovered vehicles, promising that those who identify their vehicles with proof of ownership will have them released.
