Undersupply is to blame for the increased price of cooking gas – Kyari

0

Mele Kyari, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s Group Managing Director, has informed Nigerians that the company is working with necessary agencies to keep gas prices affordable by boosting the volume delivered to the domestic market.

During a courtesy visit to the Department of Petroleum Resources headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Kyari provided the promise while answering questions from journalists.

“Today, this country is undersupplied with gas; we can tell you that stocking our network across the country with gas is proving difficult,” he stated. As a result, if supply is low, pricing will be affected.

“The LPG supply mechanism is now quite poor. As a result, we’re working closely together to ensure that we can extract LPG from our gas resources and make it available to the market.

“We are aiming to increase the volume of gas available in the domestic market to make prices more accessible. By doing so, we bring it closer to home and expand the networks; once supply is plentiful, prices will undoubtedly fall.”

Sarki Auwalu, DPR’s Chief Executive Officer, stated that the company intends to boost gas production to 230 trillion cubic feet by 2030.
“Let me take this occasion to inform the NNPC’s GMD that we were able to expand the gas reserve by 3.6 trillion cubic feet last year.”

In a similar development, the Department of Petroleum Resources’ Abia State Field Office has stated that the current scarcity of petroleum products in the south-eastern states is not due to the Federal Government’s hike in the official pump price.

On Tuesday, our reporter in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, observed a scarcity of petroleum products that began last weekend, with many filling stations lacking the products and those that did selling at N220 for petrol.

On his 68th birthday today, President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) congratulated Gen. Muhammad Buba Marwa (Rtd.) on his Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Buhari praised Marwa’s efforts in the fight against drug misuse and trafficking in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

He admired his commitment to repositioning the NDLEA, cleaning up the streets, and educating young people about the dangers of substance usage.

“The President affirms that the former Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA) and Ambassador to South Africa, the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland, has an inspiring track record, reflecting his passion, training, and experience, both local and international,” Adesina says.

Gumi, Apostle of Peace, pays a visit to Igboho

0

Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic cleric, paid a visit to Igboho town in Oyo State, South-West Nigeria, last weekend.

Sunday “Igboho” Adeyemo, hailed as a hero by his supporters and dubbed the “golden son of the town,” is viewed as a dangerous rabble rouser by his opponents. They accuse him of inciting racial animosity. The Department of State Services (DSS) claims that Igboho is stockpiling illegal weapons in a similar vein.

Igboho, who was previously only known in his home region of south-western Nigeria, rose to national prominence after becoming embroiled in one of the country’s deadliest conflicts – clashes between Fulani herders and other groups over land and grazing rights.

Following the assassination of a politician (Fatai Aborode) in January, Igboho and other Yorubas felt they had had enough and demanded that the Fulani herders from northern Nigeria leave the south-west, which is considered the Yoruba ethnic group’s home, for all of their alleged crimes. Gumi, on the other hand, has a different viewpoint.

“This is a place where I believe Nigerians must recognize the importance of living together. Because there is nothing here that can justify people agitating to be separated from our beloved country Nigeria,” Gumi said, pointing to cattle grazing in a ‘pasture.’

Gumi was accompanied on the journey by Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), whose tenure was marred by financial scandals.

“This is Igboho, made famous by a detainee in the Benin Republic,” he said.

“Nigeria is and will always be one nation. We’ve just come from the hinterland (Ilesha-Baruba in Kwara State’s Baruten local government area), where we’ve seen examples of how people should live. And it is for this reason that we have come. Nigeria is our country, and we’re trying to figure out how to bring people of all faiths together. We don’t want Nigeria to be poisoned by Igboho.

“And there are those who claim Nigeria is divided. No. Nigeria is being sunk by the elites, not the common people. The people in general are all the same.

Igboho, a self-styled activist, hails from the Aladikun compound in Modake, Igboho, Oke Ogun, Oyo state, where Gumi and his associates also stopped by.

“It’s always difficult when one of our parents, especially our mothers, abandons us. I know how it feels because I went through it when my mother died.

“But take comfort in the fact that Mama lived to be a ripe old age, which is something we always pray for when it comes to our parents. Her life, I understand, was devoted to Allah’s worship and service to humanity.

“We are grateful to God that Mama left behind deserving children like you and your siblings. Almighty Allah, grant her Aljanna Firdaus, is my prayer.”

“May He also comfort you and your other siblings, and give strength to all those left behind by Mama.”

The Nigeria Basketball Premier League kicks off today, September 8, 2021, in Abuja, the nation’s capital, and Akure, Ondo State.

Remember that a court case had previously halted the league, but the February 2021 judgment quashed all of the cases, a decision that many hailed as a victory for basketball in the United States.

By 2:45 p.m., Gboko City Chiefs will face Reformers, and by 4:45 p.m., Nigerian Army will face Kano Pillars in the final game of the day.

In addition, 11 teams from the Atlantic conference will compete at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Akure Township stadium, including the Rivers Hoopers, Kwara Falcons, Raptors, Police Baton, Ondo Raiders, Islanders, Coal City, Impressions, CAMAC, Invaders, and Lagos Warriors.

All hands are on deck, according to him, to start the Basketball Premier League in both the Atlantic and Savannah conferences.

Lingard Turns Down New Man United Deal, Demands First-Team Guarantees

0

According to ESPN, Jesse Lingard has rejected a new contract with Manchester United because he wants assurances about his first-team prospects at Old Trafford.

Lingard is in the final year of his contract with the club and has been offered new terms to extend his stay. However, the England international forward has turned down United’s initial approach and wants to make sure he gets regular playing time before deciding on his future.

If a new contract cannot be reached with United, Lingard, who has made over 200 senior appearances after coming through the academy, will be able to leave as a free agent at the end of the season and begin negotiating with clubs outside of England in January.

The 28-year-old is determined to keep his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He missed out on a place in the Euro 2020 squad by a whisker as England advanced to the final, but he was back in the team for the 4-0 win over Andorra on Sunday, scoring twice and adding an assist.

Lingard has struggled for playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United, but he made an impression on loan at West Ham United last season. He scored nine goals in just 16 appearances after joining on a temporary basis in January, winning both the Premier League player of the month and Premier League goal of the month awards for April.

Despite interest from a number of other Premier League and international clubs during the summer transfer window, Solskjaer was keen to keep Lingard at the club. He has only appeared as a substitute once this season, in a 1-1 draw with Southampton.

After the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, there is more competition for places at Old Trafford this season. Daniel James, a winger, signed a £30 million deal with Leeds United on deadline day.

Kwara APC council congress had accredited delegates -Chairman

0

Alhaji Abdullahi Samari, Chairman of the APC’s Kwara State Caretaker Committee, said on Tuesday that there was no parallel congress in the state last Saturday.

In an interview with journalists in Ilorin, he stated this.

“Unlike the ward congress, which included all party members, the local congress was not an open house,” Samari explained. Only accredited delegates, including elected statutory delegates, were permitted to vote.”

According to him, the party’s constitution requires the provision of delegates’ lists to the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police prior to the start of voting at the local government congress venue for a lawful congress to take place.
To be called a lawful congress, he added, the exercise must be conducted by accredited party officials and monitored by the INEC.

“This is exactly how we conducted ourselves as a group. Any group of people who claim to be carrying out anything contrary to this in Kwara State or elsewhere are a bunch of clowns who should never be taken seriously.

“We are glad that our party’s national secretariat has also stated this clearly, especially in light of some false reports about the congress. The rules and guidelines for the party are very clear. The consequences for anyone who disobeys the guidelines, thereby exposing the party to ridicule for their own self-serving agenda, are also very clear, and we are grateful that the party’s national secretariat has also spoken on the subject.”

Abductors of Niger Monarch have yet to contact the monarch’s family

0

The abductors of their monarch have yet to make contact with the people of Wawa kingdom, in the Borgu local government area of Niger State.

Dr Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, the Dodo of Wawa, was kidnapped last Saturday night by ten gunmen suspected of being bandits.

The abductors have not contacted his family or the Borgu Emirate four days after his abduction, raising concerns about his abduction and safety.

While some attribute his kidnapping to his long-standing opposition to the activities of some foreign Fulani men who arrived in the area from Benin and Niger Republic to settle, others accuse one of his security guards of being a bandit informant.

Some feared that the abductors had harmed the monarch, who had resisted his kidnapping but decided to follow his kidnappers after they threatened to kill members of his family.

“Everyone is now a suspect,” a source close to Dodo of Wawa palace told yesterday. “Even some of his family members were being questioned.”

“The bandits were led by a woman, and when they arrived, the son was standing outside the building; he was the one who informed them that the father was inside the palace, so even the son is being interrogated,” the source added.
Wasiu Abiodun, a spokesman for the state police command, said the tactical squad and local vigilantes have been activated and are on the lookout for the kidnappers.

Nigeria’s Economic Resilience Indicated by GDP Growth – Olawepo-Hashim

0

Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the recent data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showing that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 5% is indicative of the country’s economic resilience.

Most economic handlers in government, according to Olawepo-Hashim, were encouraged by the NBS’s year-on-year Q2 2021 GDP growth data, which was widely published on August 21.

He believes that with more effort and putting “our internal divisions behind us,” Nigeria can become one of the world’s top ten economies because it “has everything it takes.”

Unlike when there is news of economic contraction, which always causes panic in the stock exchange, currency markets, and domestic price levels, the news of GDP growth takes time to trickle down positively, according to the former presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, Olawepo-Hashim said that while GDP growth does not always translate into lower prices for ordinary people to see and feel, “for economic watchers; this underscores the resilience of Nigeria’s economy.”

“The important item for me is that, despite relatively high oil prices, it is the non-oil sector that rises more, as the oil sector’s contribution to GDP fell by 1.83 percent points,” the global energy executive continued. The non-oil sector, on the other hand, increased by 1.93 percent. While oil remains a major source of foreign exchange, it is becoming increasingly insignificant in Nigeria’s GDP, accounting for only 7.42 percent of the country’s total.

“The GDP growth of 5% is a sign to doomsayers that Nigeria will not perish as they predict. The economic recovery is not a fluke or due to oil money; there are quiet revolutions taking place in the communication sector that will transform Nigeria into a cyber power in the near future, which many people are unaware of.”
He claimed that between 2020 and June 2021, Nigeria added 19.0 million new internet users, bringing her total to over 104.4 million, putting her ahead of many European countries.

“Once Nigeria’s security challenges are addressed and rising ethnic and religious divisions are addressed, the country will be on its way to the top. Her top priorities will be to reform the electricity sector and ensure a reliable supply of electricity, upgrade infrastructure, stimulate industrialization and job creation, and reduce rising poverty by closing the gap between the rich and the poor.”

Price Water Cooper (PWC), a global consulting firm, predicted in a 2015 report that Nigeria will be the world’s 14th largest economy by 2050, ahead of Spain, Italy, and Canada, among others.

“I dare say that with more effort and a focus on internal divisions, we will be able to outperform PWC’s predictions. Nigeria can be one of the world’s top ten economies; we have everything we need,” he said.
