INEC has listed PDP candidate Ozigbo for the Anambra election

0

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Valentine Ozigbo as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the Anambra governorship election on November 6.

INEC stated that it made the decision in response to a court order.

Mr Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, announced this in an Abuja statement on Thursday.

INEC met on Thursday, according to Okoye, and discussed a number of issues related to the governorship election, including the most recent court order.

“The Commission has been ordered by the Court of Appeal to recognize and publish the name of Ozigbo as the governorship candidate,” he said.

He pointed out that the PDP had previously substituted its deputy governorship candidate within the legal deadline.

According to Okoye, Ozigbo is the governorship candidate, while Lilian Enemo is the deputy governor.

According to the timetable and schedule of activities for the election, the final list of candidates will be published on Oct. 7.

Arewa leaders have been given a wake-up call – Wike receives support from Ganduje’s former aide on the VAT issue

0

Former adviser to Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has backed Governor Nyesom Wike on tax payments to the state government.

It was recalled that the Rivers State Government, through the State Attorney General, had taken the Federal Government agency to court to challenge the collection of VAT.

Wike had asked the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service to begin implementing the state’s value-added law 2021 as soon as possible.

He warned all corporations that if they don’t pay their taxes to the state government, they risk being sanctioned, including having their operations “sealed off.”

“Let me warn you that the Rivers State Government is in complete control of the state and will not allow any more attempts by the FIRS to sabotage or undermine our power to administer our tax and other relevant laws freely in our own state. Those who dabble with fire run the danger of burning their fingertips. Wike cautioned, “Enough with the pranks.”

Governor Wike stated that the law will remain in effect until the judgment is overturned by a higher court.

On his Twitter page, Dawisu stated that any northerner who opposes the state government’s implementation of VAT does not care about his people.

According to him, northern authorities need to wake up and figure out how to improve the region’s economic standing in the country.

“Any northerner opposing Wike over the VAT problem is not doing his region any favors. On this, I completely agree with Wike.

“It’s past time for us to go inward and do some soul searching about how to restore our country’s economic status.

Dawisu remarked, “This is a wake-up call to Arewa leaders and supporters.”

Third Wave Deaths in Edo COVID-19 Have Reached 33

0

The Edo State Government announced yesterday that the number of deaths of people who have not been immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine has increased.

It confirmed three more COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the state to 33 in the third wave of the pandemic.

Dr. Andrew Obi, the state COVID-19 Incident Manager, made the announcement following the state COVID-19 Taskforce’s daily virtual meeting, which was chaired by Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the state Governor.

He added that out of 365 samples taken in the last 24 hours, the state documented 49 additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 889 since the third wave of the pandemic began.

The Incident Manager, who expressed concern about the rising number of infections and deaths caused by the virus, emphasized the importance of residents getting vaccinated as well as complying with non-pharmaceutical interventions to contain the pandemic, such as the mandatory use of facemasks in public and regular hand washing, among other things. Obi also advised Edo residents to take advantage of the second phase immunization opportunity to provide full protection against COVID-19, stating that vaccination is the safest and most effective way to combat the pandemic. “Edo State documented three more COVID-19-related deaths and 49 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, with a case positivity rate of 13.4 percent,” he said.

“We also reported 10 recoveries, with 614 current cases being monitored around the state at various treatment and isolation centers.”

Obi said the state has vaccinated over 56,724 people since the second phase immunization began, with 50,430 people receiving Moderna vaccinations and 6,294 receiving AstraZeneca vaccines.

Only 38 of the 889 confirmed cases have received the COVID-19 vaccine, urging “all residents who have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to come out for the second dose to get full protection against the virus, while others who have not been vaccinated to come out and get the vaccination.” The immunizations are risk-free, efficacious, and safe.”

In Imo, Buhari declares that any Igbo man would never want to leave Nigeria

0

*Wants to be recognized for restoring the country’s security and economy *Reiterates promise to finishing the Second Niger Bridge and other projects *Promises credible elections in 2023 *

Ohaneze advocates equity, justice, and fairness for all citizens, claiming that Ndigbo are Nigeria’s most federating people.
President Muhammadu Buhari, on his first working visit to Imo State since winning a second term, said it was ludicrous to him that any Igbo guy would consider leaving Nigeria because the area controls the country’s economy.

The president also stated that by the end of his eight-year term in May 2023, most of the country’s economic and security concerns would have been resolved.
The president made the remarks during a town hall meeting with South-east leaders in Owerri, which was the first time Imo has hosted a working visit by a president since 2009.

“It is inconceivable to me that any Igbo man does not consider himself a Nigerian. He stated, “The proof is there for everyone to see that Igbos are in charge of Nigeria’s economy.”
Buhari also stated that he wished to be remembered as the president who improved Nigeria’s security and economic conditions, as well as bringing prosperity and defeating corruption.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to holding legitimate and fair elections in 2023, as well as promising to finish the Second Niger Bridge and other ongoing government projects in the geopolitical zone’s south.

Professor George Obiozor, President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, assured Buhari of Ndigbo’s continuing support in his speech. Regardless, Obiozor requested that Nigerians be guided by the idea of equity.

“No matter how hard you try or how much initiative you have, there is nothing anyone can achieve if there is no security,” Buhari said. The first priority is security, followed by the economy. People will mind their own business if they feel safe.”

Despite the fact that battling corruption in the country had grown increasingly complicated and challenging, the president stated that he would continue to work to leave a legacy of honesty and accountability in government.

“No one can accuse me of owning firms or houses anywhere in the country, and I thank God that I try to keep myself as clean as possible so that I am not held hostage,” Buhari stated. I would do all in my power to ensure that Nigerians who work hard succeed.”

He asked regional leaders to educate their communities about the need of holding their elected officials responsible.
Buhari hailed the Igbo and expressed his respect for their resourcefulness and entrepreneurial spirit. “The essential thing about the Igbo people is that there is no location in Nigeria where you will not see Igbos in charge of either infrastructure or the pharmaceutical industry,” he remarked.

The president stated that without infrastructure development, no country can achieve significant progress. He expressed remorse for consecutive federal governments’ contributions to the deterioration of essential infrastructure in the country.

“When you get infrastructure properly, Nigerians would mind their own business,” he added, adding that Igbos as a group stand to benefit more from the country’s ongoing infrastructure development since “they are more enterprising.”

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State declared earlier during the town hall gathering that Ndigbo believed in a united Nigeria based on “justice, equity, and fairness.” Uzodinma praised Buhari for addressing the concerns of Igbos through intentional policy efforts aimed at instilling a feeling of belonging in the people, such as the ongoing construction of the Second Niger Bridge and other projects.

The governor said the people of the region would be grateful to the president for sanctioning the construction of a naval facility in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area, adding that the installation’s economic benefits would become apparent as time went on.

He also praised the president for strongly supporting the appointment of two prominent Igbos, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, as Director-General of the World Trade Organization and Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization, respectively, into key international organizations.

Ndigbo’s backing, Obiozor assured the president.
“Ndigbo are devoted to Nigerian unity, and there is news for those seeking to push us out of Nigeria,” the Ohaneze president-general added. The Ndigbo people of Nigeria are like fish in the ocean, and no storm can force them out.

“Mr. President, we see a new dawn in your distinguished presence in Igbo land in this context, and we think that when you return to Abuja, the importance and substance of this visit will establish a new basis for meaningful discourse on vital matters of concern to the Igbo nation.”

The president’s visit, according to Obiozor, was reassuring that there was still reason to be optimistic about Nigeria and Nigerian unity.
He expressed optimism that the visit will usher in a new age of discussion, collaboration, and understanding between Ndigbo and the Buhari administration.

“Mr. President, after all that Nigeria has been through in its nearly 60-year history of crises and continuity, and after the spectacular patriotic role of Ndigbo in ensuring its unity and survival, the persistent perception that the Igbos are separatists and secessionist agitators is a historical fallacy,” he said.

“In fact, if the truth be told, among all Nigerian citizens, Ndigbo are the most federating unit. Generally speaking, if you don’t see the Igbos anyplace in Nigeria, something is wrong. Igbos are traders and adventurers who love to travel. As a result, the Igbo character is defined by a proclivity for kindness, harmonic peaceful coexistence, and the spirit of humanity’s universalism. We are who we are. Our Igbo proverb goes, “Ojemba Enwe Iro,” which means, “A traveler creates no enemies.”

Another misunderstanding, according to the Ohaneze chief, is that Igbos cannot speak in unison.
“Mr. President, despite all the risks of secession or separatist that the country faces, there is little doubt that no secessionist element can triumph in Nigeria if effective government is built on equity, justice, and fairness to all citizens,” he stated.
The most pressing and critical need of Ndigbo today, Your Excellency, is security. Ndigbo security in Nigeria and beyond has become a compelling primary obligation that Ndigbo are deeply concerned about.

“Unfortunately, our South-east zone has recently become a hotbed of strife, undermining our people’s peace-loving mentality. Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in this backdrop, urges for the creation of a zonal and state police apparatus to support and complement the present federal security architecture.”

Buhari’s visit to the Igbo heartland, Obiozor said later on the Arise News Channel, offered the Igbo hope for Nigeria’s future.
The Naze/Ihiagwa/Nekede/Obinze link road, the Balloon Driven/Flood Control drainage at Dick Tiger Road, the Egbeada Bypass road, and the New Exco-Chambers, Government House, Owerri were among the projects Buhari commissioned during his visit.
The president told Imo citizens at the inauguration of the Egbeada bypass, which was named after Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, that he was impressed with the state government’s performance.

“I am extremely satisfied with what I have seen, and I assure you that Imo State will be supported within the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution,” Buhari stated.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) issued a sit-at-home order in response to the president’s visit, which was observed to be followed.

Residents of Owerri, the state capital, and, indeed, most of the states in the South-east, complied totally with the IPOB command. The streets were desolate, with banks, offices, shops, and marketplaces closed.

Benue’s state and governance are under war

0

The scholarly piece How Leaders Effectively Manage Conflicts was brilliantly written on June 27, 2018 and is currently earning rave reviews throughout the world.

Conflicts are without a doubt one of the most severe dangers to effective governance and the continued existence of states around the world. Conflict reporting has thus occupied a major position in contemporary journalism, just as many developing-world countries are among the most afflicted regions on Earth, where humankind is increasingly threatened with extinction.

Nigeria and the rest of the Samuel area in Africa are hotbeds of terrorism and violence, despite the fact that Nigeria has had its own share of serial battles and terrorism. Unfortunately, there have been pockets of unnecessary conflicts in Nigeria, particularly in the last six and a half years of the administration of Daura, Katsina-born retired military dictator Major General Muhammadu Buhari. These conflicts have been stoked by persons identified as belonging to the Fulani ethnicity, which is the nationality of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Fulani militia’s war on Nigeria has become pervasive, vast, and deadly, yet the promoters of the war, as well as those supporting the conflict, are protected by the powers-that-be in Abuja. Entrepreneurs are those that parade the Nigerian media space, expressing general and specific threats without much accountability for the simple fact that powerful people in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration have thrown their weight behind these war mongers and terrorism advocates.

Benue State, along with Southern Kaduna and Plateau State, is the hottest location in Nigeria’s war zone, with a connection between all of these places facing deadly attacks and violence by armed Fulani militia being that they are nearly entirely Indigenous peoples and Christians. In Benue State, there has been a lot of bloodshed in the last six years.

The people of Benue state are fortunate in having as their state governor someone who is forthright and tells it like it is, in the figure of Samuel Ortom. His outspokenness and tenacious defense of his people’s fundamental right to life has made him many enemies within President Muhammadu Buhari’s current central government, which has concentrated so much on cows and Fulani herders to the cost of national security.

The governor of Benue State has come dangerously near to death on several occasions, most recently when he was ambushed by some brave terrorists. Ironically, a group openly claimed responsibility for the attack just hours after he survived it, but President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration did not act to apprehend, investigate, or prosecute this person or his associates. Instead, the President has repeatedly verbally attacked Governor Ortom because he refused to give up any land for the construction of Fulan cow settlements.

As I previously stated, the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State was claimed by a Fulani organization known as the Fulani Nationality Movement, or FUNAM.

FUNAM stated it planned to assassinate Ortom on Saturday, but the operation was thwarted due to a minor communication blunder.

Ortom, according to a statement by one Umar Amir Shehu, is opposed to open grazing and Fulani interest in the country.

“Our attention has been called to media headlines today speculating about who attacked Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom,” states the statement headlined “Why we attacked Ortom.”

“Yes. We did, in fact. The attack was carried out by the Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM). We have legitimate reasons for doing so. In 15 nations, we acted on behalf of millions of Fulani people.

“It’s a case of retribution against an infidel who has spent his life and fortune destroying Fulani values and legacy.

“This historic attack was carried out by our brave fighters to send a powerful message to Ortum and his collaborators: wherever you are, once you are against Fulani long-term interests, we will bring you down. This is a strong cautionary statement. We hope that those who take us for granted understand the clear message.

“ONE THING IS FOR SURE: WE ARE GOING TO KILL HIM. That task will be completed one day, and very soon.”

“The attack was carried out by eleven FUNAM operatives. Ortom was able to get away today due to a little technological communication blunder. He will not be so fortunate the next time. We can give him and his followers our assurance.”

Ortom’s property at Tyo-mu village, along the Makurdi – Gboko route, had been assaulted by herders, as I mentioned before.

The governor retaliated by alleging that the murder attempt was related to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, or MACBAN.

According to the governor, MACBAN had finalized plans to murder him over his stance on open grazing.

Ortom claimed that during a recent meeting in Yola, the Myetti Allah made the decision to eliminate him.

He stated that his life is in the hands of the Supreme God and that no Fulani man can kill him. He also stated that he got intelligence that the Association planned to assassinate his security aides and capture him alive.

Several months after his personal brush with the Fulani terror network’s sudden and preplanned execution, the Benue State governor has continued to be a thorn in the flesh of Abuja’s political authorities only because his administration passed a law prohibiting open grazing of cattle, which the President finds unacceptable, despite the fact that the extant Land Use Act of 1978 ceded power over land to the President.

President Muhammadu Buhari, through his spokesman Garba Shehu, devotes a significant amount of public time and resources to criticizing the governor of Benue State. Even when the governor was interviewed by a privately owned television channel, Channels Television, the station was investigated by the National Broadcasting Commission, which is the present administration’s attack dog against media plurality and freedom.

My interpretation of the many attacks sponsored by the Federal government against Benue people, when compared to specific threats made against Benue State residents and the numerous acts of bloodcurdling violence perpetrated by armed Fulani attackers, shows that there is indeed a declared war on Benue State, and that the President does not even hide his partisanship in all of these displays of savagery.

The governor has shown exceptional endurance as a competent leader and a great conflict management in all of these intentional attacks and conflicts against the people of Benue State by infamous conflict entrepreneurs. I just finished reading an essay on conflict resolution that was published in 2008, and the authors told us the following.

“The ability to detect and resolve problems in a timely and equitable manner is defined as conflict management. On a daily basis, leaders must deal with conflict resolution. Leaders must remember to deal with the crisis and resist the urge to get involved in unrelated matters.

Leaders must communicate with their teams on a regular basis and establish a vision. Conflict in the workplace can stifle employee productivity and hinder the fulfillment of company goals. Leaders are frequently faced with the task of negotiating conflict in a smooth manner. A detailed study of the problem is required to identify the contradicting source.

The following are some essential leadership tactics for dealing with conflict management:

Act in a responsible manner. When dealing with conflict, a leader must be responsible. Respect for the leader may be impacted if the leader is not responsible.

Determine the source of the disagreement. A detailed examination of the circumstance is the first step in diagnosing the dispute. It is critical for leaders to remember not to sidestep the problem. The leader must make every effort to reduce or eliminate the conflict. The leader must realize that they are not competing for popularity, and that not everyone will agree with all of their actions. Before taking action, the leader must make certain that there is proof of misconduct. It is critical to avoid unnecessary conflict and to act before the problem has become irreversible. Others will perceive the leader as hesitant to make decisions if he or she takes too long to act.

Keep your boundaries in place. In order to preserve boundaries, a leader must aid and support others. Additionally, the leader must have sufficient self-awareness to avoid crossing lines. A constant awareness of limits will aid in the establishment of standards that will help prevent additional disagreement.

Differences should be respected. Rather than influencing others, the leader must accept their individual abilities. Far too frequently, a leader takes the side of those he or she trusts the most and fails to take advantage of their staff’ different skills. A leader must strive to recognize and value everyone’s contributions to the workplace.

Make a goal for yourself. Doing things that others dislike is part of being a leader. This includes resolving conflicts. When only one person’s point of view is addressed, the leader must use caution. The leader must gather data, grow in self-awareness, and be prepared for the unexpected. Identifying a goal for managing conflict should be a priority.

Banditry: Zamfara NMA calls on the government to convene a stakeholder meeting

0

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Zamfara State has urged the state government to convene a stakeholders’ security conference to enable residents to contribute to the fight against banditry and other kinds of crime in the state.

The request came after the state government failed to meet a two-week deadline set by the organization to provide protection in and around health facilities across the state to protect health professionals from being attacked or kidnapped.

The state NMA stated that the ongoing battle on insecurity is everyone’s business, and that the state government should convene a stakeholders’ security conference to brainstorm and develop a realistic and long-term solution to the problem.

Dr. Mannir Bature, the NMA Chairman, stated yesterday in Gusau, the state capital, that the harmful impact of banditry is impacting the people’s socio-economic and political lives.

He stated that the state’s health facilities are vital and must be protected.

The NMA boss stated that leaving the facilities unguarded poses a serious risk to not only health personnel but also patients.

A few weeks ago, bandits broke into the Dansadau General Hospital in the state’s Maru Local Government Area and kidnapped a health attendant and caregiver.

The event caused the state NMA to call the state government’s attention to the necessity to provide proper protection to the state’s health facilities.

Ugwuanyi is the chairman of the PDP’s Zoning Committee

The leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Enugu State Governor, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as chairman of the committee to identify where its next national chairman should emerge in a last-minute move to realign all dissident voices ahead of the 2023 general election.

Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, his Adamawa State counterpart, was also named chairman of the PDP National Convention Planning Committee.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made the revelation while briefing journalists on the resolutions of the PDP’s 93rd National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

He added that the NEC also named Sen. Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, as the Deputy Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee, and Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, as the committee’s secretary.

Dr. Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State, has been selected as the Zoning Committee’s Deputy Chairman, while Barr Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, has been appointed as the committee’s Secretary.

“NEC gathered today to examine crucial matters concerning the party,” he stated. The NEC applauds the National Working Committee, the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees (BoT), the national assembly caucus, and other stakeholders for their efforts in resolving the party’s difficulties.

“The national convention planning committee, as well as the zoning committee to zone national working committee offices, were approved by the NEC.

“The National Executive Committee approved Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State, as Chairman of the organizing committee for the 2021 National Convention.

“The committee’s deputy chairman is Senator Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, and the secretary is Engr Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.

“The Chairman of the Zoning Committee, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State, was approved by the NEC.

“The Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom, is the deputy chairman, and Barr. The committee’s secretary is Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed.

“NEC charged the committees to work tirelessly to ensure the national convention’s success.

“The Senate David Mark committee, which is interfering in some areas connected to our party’s leadership concerns, has submitted its findings to the NEC.

“The David Mark committee promised that all court proceedings are being addressed.

“The NEC expresses its gratitude to Nigerians for their faith in the PDP and for the collective solidarity and support they have shown our party during this challenging time.”

The fate of the party’s embalmed National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, was not tabled for discussion, according to the party’s spokesperson, just as the NEC did not deliberate on the deadline for the various committees to submit their reports.

Earlier in the opening session, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar stated that the PDP is the only political party that can overcome the recent issues it has faced without collapsing.

He congratulated the members of the party for their unwavering commitment to democracy and the rule of law.

He praised the party’s various organizations, particularly the PDP Governors Forum, for providing leadership to the party during the recent crises.

In his remarks, the party’s Acting Chairman, Chief Akinwonmi, stated that the purpose of Thursday’s NEC meeting was to approve the committees that had been agreed upon at the previous NEC meeting.

He warned that the success of the October conference would benefit the entire country.

Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and the governor of Sokoto State, assured that governors under the party’s umbrella would work together to bring the party victory in 2023.

FG work with South Africa to promote peaceful coexistence

0

The Federal Government has stated its willingness to continue working with South Africa to develop creative and effective programs that would engage both nations’ young in order to avoid the negative consequences of recent events.

Mr. Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, made the announcement yesterday in Abuja during a courtesy call from Mr. Thamsanga Mseleka, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria.

He stated that both countries’ youth may be involved in sports, education, ICT skills, and culture to help the countries’ socioeconomic development.

Mr. Dare went on to say that the two countries’ exchanges, which began today, are intended to work out systems that will allow for constant conversation and the development of solutions that will be implemented by both governments.

“I am glad that, just as Nigeria is discussing how to defend its citizens’ rights, South Africa is doing the same.” This, he claims, will ensure that both countries’ goal for mutual cooperation is realized.

The Minister stressed that the discussion should extend beyond youth meetings to stakeholder consultations in order to deepen relationships between the two countries, noting that Nigeria and South Africa have a long-standing diplomatic relationship that should not be allowed to sour.

Mr. Nebeolisa Anako, the Permanent Secretary, had earlier stated that the engagement that would improve the bilateral connection between the two countries had been long overdue, especially given the fact that both countries share so many shared interests such as sports, youth, and culture.

Mr. Thamsanga Mseleka, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, stated that he was in the Ministry to brief the Minister on his country’s readiness to open up areas that will solidify the two countries’ long-standing diplomatic relationship.

He stated that South Africa was willing to cooperate with Nigeria to develop mechanisms that would improve their connection, particularly through the involvement of both nations’ youth in sports, culture, and education.

You’re a bootlicker, Gumi says to Femi Adesina

0

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has criticized Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, for calling him a “bandit lover.”

“My objective has not failed,” Gumi claims, “but it was undermined or discouraged by the same powerful people who profit from the chaos.” Gumi revealed his opinions on Thursday morning via his well-known Facebook page.

Read the rest of Gumi’s post here:

WAR HAS NEVER BEEN A SOLUTION IN ANY PART OF THE WORLD AT ANY TIME.

You bootlicker who referred to me as a “bandit-lover”! I am a country-lover, a region-lover, a state-lover, a people-lover, and a humanity-lover, to name a few.

I am a board-certified medical doctor who understands how to accurately extract a brain tumor without harming the delicate brain tissues in the process. I was a commissioned military officer who understands the purpose of the military and its capabilities. I am a scholar with a Ph.D. from another country. I am an Islamic scholar who understands the depravity of taking the lives of innocent people. So, in this sea of forgetfulness, silence is not an option for me.

Only a fool would allow his home to be used as a battleground. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fools out there. Killing rats with an iron rod in your rat-infested living room will most likely destroy your devices and furniture without killing any. We should not use weaponry to cover up bad governance.

Some deceitful people claim that peace talks with herdsmen bandits have failed, and that your goal has failed as well.

My objective, I added, had not failed, but it had been undermined or discouraged by the same powerful people who profit from turmoil or who want us to destroy ourselves and leave the herders in permanent ignorance.

We tried amnesty, some remarked, but it didn’t work. You tried amnesia rather than amnesty. Amnesty isn’t amnesty unless it includes rehabilitation, reconciliation, and compensation. If you want to know what an amnesty is, ask former Niger Delta Militants who have slain security personnel in the past. What’s stopping us from establishing a federal ministry of Nomadic Affairs to handle their issues and complaints?

All of the bandit leaders we met stated that after surrendering their guns, some remorseful ones were selected and extrajudicially executed. Peace and negotiations with them will not succeed until they trust the very unjust system that all Nigerians complain about and for which they used guns to fight. This brings us to our mediation duty. They know we won’t fool them as holy men, so they came out in force to see us. To our surprise, the same unfair system swings around and betrays our peace effort. Some in the press, whom I also refer to as criminals-in-purpose, and some politicians, whom I refer to as urban-bandits, cause the death and infirmity of more people than the bandits do as a result of their shared misuse of our meager resources and misplacement of priorities.

How many Nigerians have died recently from cholera, a water-borne disease, or typhoid, malaria, and malnutrition due to a lack of simply clean water to drink? Because of a lack of suitable maternal health facilities and competent workers, the country has a maternal death rate of almost 500000 per year. A country whose high-priced medical personnel are hunting for a way out of the blaze. Please, such a country!

By the way, you might not know that the bandits have created escape routes from aerial bombardment over time. They warned us that your attacks could only murder our women and children!

Just yesterday, two groups of banditry victims approached me, claiming that their loved ones had been kidnapped by bandits in the Kaduna suburbs of Rigachukun and Keke. When he overheard and realized they were outsiders in the region as they were summoning the villagers to guide them, an escapee engineer in the later said it gave him the courage to slip through heavily cultivated maize crops to escape. The argument is that if Zamfara is on fire for them, it is a foregone conclusion that they will seek refuge elsewhere. So, will the entire country of Nigeria be imprisoned incommunicado?

When it comes to the economic consequences of the places currently under siege, it’ll only be a matter of time before you hear them wailing. A man from Tsafe came begging yesterday because of economic stagnation; one would think that Gusau, the capital, is closer to beg than Kaduna.

We know the substance of those cynics who have nothing useful to contribute to the situation other than vituperation and abuses. There are no reservations! You don’t expect poo to smell good.

So, what’s the answer?

Excellent Intelligence! Good policing, including the involvement of local herders in policing, as well as the rehabilitation, reconciliation, and recompense of all banditry victims. The protection of people’s rights by a good, honest judiciary. Money and time well spent on these will undoubtedly cure the sickness of delinquency, crime, and poor governance in the country.

Bandits kill six people and injure others in Sokoto

0

Suspected bandits fleeing a military operation in Zamfara State have killed six people and kidnapped others in Sokoto State’s Tureta local government area.

The Tureta local government area shares a border with Zamfara State, which is currently undergoing a military operation.

Many people were injured as a result of the bandits’ invasion and are now receiving treatment in the hospital, according to reports.

Aside from the bandit invasion, the area is currently experiencing a telecommunications network outage in a neighboring state.

The bandits stormed the area around 2 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to the source.

According to the source, the attackers imitated Muslim prayers in order to deceive community members and draw attention to themselves.
