FG signs MoU with KONGA to increase youth employment

0

The Federal Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KONGA to empower Nigerian youth through the exploration of Information Communication Technology (ICT) with a view to building their capacity towards self-reliance and employability, as part of its stated commitment to continue to harness youth potentials for improved socio-economic growth and development in the country.
At a signing ceremony in his office at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, reaffirmed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is fully committed to improving the lives of Nigerian youth through various initiatives such as e-commerce and small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).
He added that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on state economies is expected to prompt governments to consider harnessing youth potentials to combat unemployment, youth restiveness, and other social vices, and that it is in this vein that his Ministry has partnered with KONGA, a leading global e-commerce company, not only in Nigeria but globally.

”No Nation solves unemployment without leading on entrepreneurship,” he says, adding that “this MoU will open another window through which our youth can explore more sustainability.”
“The agreement will strengthen and support the Federal Government’s deliberate policies of engaging the youth through various initiatives aimed at providing solutions to the burden of youth unemployment and putting them on the path to entrepreneurship,” according to the Minister.
Mr Nebeolisa Anako, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, thanked KONGA for collaborating and identifying with the Ministry earlier in his remarks.

He promised that the Ministry would continue to create an enabling environment for the full implementation of the government’s various policies and programs in line with the current Administration’s policy priorities.
Mr. Leo Stan Eke, President of the KONGA Group, also spoke about how the MOU will change the narrative by giving the youth a platform to take a bold step toward self-development.
He stated that the program will benefit at least 500, 000 young people. Mr. Eke continued, “They will be trained in Digital Technology with the long-term goal of wealth creation through the E-Commerce system.” Display the text that has been quoted

Nigeria, two other countries may be added to the UK’s COVID-19 travel risk list

According to a British data expert, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Grenada are among the countries that could be added to the red list today.

Most international travel was halted for months due to the pandemic, but many of the restrictions for British travelers were lifted in June.

The pandemic, however, is evolving differently in each country, and the British government plans to update its COVID-19 travel list as part of a three-week review, according to Sky News.

Nigeria is currently on the amber list of countries and territories, but if the COVID-19 infection rate does not improve, it may be moved to the red list.

Countries are assumed to be amber unless they present a low public health risk, in which case they will turn green, or a high public health risk, in which case they will turn red.

To assist ministers in making decisions, the Joint Biosecurity Centre has developed a risk assessment methodology. Infection rates, testing rates, positivity rates, rates of variants of concern or variants under investigation, the ability to test for variants (genomic sequencing), and travel links with countries linked to VOCs or VUIs are all taken into consideration.

Vaccination rates are taken into account as well.

Countries and territories are categorized as red, amber, or green, with each list having its own set of rules.

Jamaica and Grenada, both popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean, may be added to the red list, according to data expert Tim White.

In Africa, the data suggests Nigeria could be vulnerable, White said, adding that St Lucia is at risk because infection rates rose after the last travel review – but they are now declining, and case numbers are low overall, leading him to believe the country will be spared.

Anyone traveling to England, according to the authorities, must:

In the three days leading up to your trip to England, take a COVID-19 test.
COVID-19 tests must be booked and paid for after arrival in England.
Fill out a passenger location form.
Whether you are fully vaccinated or not, you must do these things.
A fully vaccinated traveller must take a COVID-19 test on or before the second day after arriving in England.

This is true if you’ve been fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination program, the UK vaccination program abroad, or an approved vaccination program in Europe or the United States, as not all are recognized in England.

Michael Owen picks his favorite clubs to win the Champions League this season

0

Michael Owen, a former Real Madrid striker, has tipped Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United to win the Champions League ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite having Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe, Owen believes all four Premier League clubs, including PSG, are far ahead of other clubs to win Europe’s top-flight competition this season.

As PSG drew 1-1 with Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday night, the former England international said this while giving his verdict on Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe’s combination.

PSG’s first Champions League group game was against Club Brugge on Wednesday night, and Messi started in a front three with Neymar and Mbappe, but none of the club’s all-star forwards were able to score in a disappointing 1-1 draw.

“As much as we lust after them [Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe], this PSG team with those forwards are all phenomenal players in their own right,” Owen told BT Sport.

“However, three makes it weaker for me, and I’m not sure why they’re one of the favorites for it [the Champions League].”

“I believe the English teams (Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United) are far and away the best.”

Rooney’s Derby close to agreeing point reduction with the EFL

0

Derby County and the EFL are close to reaching an agreement on a points deduction for breaking financial fair play rules.

If a final agreement is reached, the penalty will be reduced from what would have been imposed otherwise, but a reported nine-point deduction would immediately drop them to the bottom of the second tier with minus-two points.

Rule 85 of the EFL regulations allows a club to accept a lesser punishment in exchange for avoiding the time and expense of having the case heard by a formal disciplinary commission in the future. According to reports from Wednesday night, a three-point suspension will be lifted pending future compliance.
Derby accepted a suspended three-point deduction for failing to pay their players last December under that rule in July.

The Rams are already operating under a transfer embargo, which restricted their search for new players this summer to free transfers and six-month loans.
Derby were charged with breaking spending rules in January 2020 and were later cleared, but the EFL’s appeal over their accounting policies resulted in a £100,000 fine in June.

Derby are currently 16th in the Championship with seven points after seven games, with one win and four draws, after avoiding relegation to League One on the final day of last season.

Fear, concern are growing in Bauchi as the military ‘kills’ terrorists and bandits from neighboring states

0

Bauchi State, in the North-East, is bordered to the north by Kano and Jigawa States, to the south by Taraba and Plateau States, to the east by Gombe and Yobe States, and to the west by Kaduna State.

Despite the relative peace in the state, Bauchi State still has its fair share of insecurity, including kidnapping, cattle rustling, thuggery, and rape, among other crimes, which both the state government and security agencies are assiduously battling to eliminate in order to ensure that the relative peace in the state is maintained for the benefit of the people.

People fear that fleeing bandits will find their way into Bauchi State, especially with the presence of Lame Burra forest in Ningi Local Government Area, Balmo forest in Gajuwa LGA, Yuda and Mundu, Panshanu and Megemu forests in Toro LGA, and Yankari Games Reserve in Alkaleri LGA.

According to security sources, the location of these forests in the state could provide a safe haven for fleeing bandits who have turned Bauchi State into their operational base to avoid military bombardment in the ongoing operation against them.

In response to this fear, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, stated that the police were aware of the location of the forests and had taken proactive measures to ensure a crime-free Bauchi State, including sustained operations, intelligence-led community-policing engagements, and other crime-fighting strategies.

“The Command has put in place crime prevention measures, such as visibility policing, community partnerships, constant raids of black spots, regular foot and vehicular patrols, surveillance on buildings and vulnerable areas, stop and search, and intelligence-led policing through partnership with sister agencies and other non-governmental organizations in o,” according to the police image maker.

While acknowledging that the state’s forests provide cover for criminal elements, Wakil stated that the police and other stakeholders, such as other security agencies and vigilante groups such as Danga Security, were working together to ensure that the state was secure from bandits and other criminals fleeing Zamfara and other Northern states.

“Police and other security agencies in the state have now joined hands to secure and block all borders that lead into the state,” the PPRO said, adding that the state’s relative peace was due to the robust synergy with the state government and other security agencies, vigilante groups, religious/traditional institutions, youths, and other stakeholders.

To ensure that peace reigns in Bauchi State, the police spokesman stated that the state’s police recently rounded up some arms and ammunition.

He said the weapons included 25 AK-47 rifles, one locally made SMG, one locally fabricated AK47, one English Barretta and one magazine, 27 rusted/unserviceable locally made revolvers, 29 unserviceable locally made pistols and cartridges, two pistol Berettas, five Dane guns, three locally made single barrel guns, three locally made revolver pistols, and six locally made pistols.

He went on to say that the ammunition recovered in the state included 874 7.6mm rounds, 5,022 5.56mm rounds, 113 9X19mm rounds, 274 62.7mm rounds, and 177 38mm rounds, among other things.

While reiterating that the police will continue to protect the state not only from bandits and other criminal elements, the PPRO urged residents to continue to provide information that will allow police and other security agencies to take swift action to prevent banditry and other crimes.

In a similar vein, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu Alkaleri, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the State Governor on Security, described Bauchi as the most secure state in Northern Nigeria.

He stated that the Bauchi State government was doing everything possible to keep the state free of banditry and other forms of criminality in order to maintain the current relative peace.

As part of its effort to combat insecurity and bandits across the state, the government deployed about 10,000 hunters to support police and other security agencies, according to Alkaleri, who also stated that the government distributed 70 patrol vehicles to hunters and security agencies to ease their operations.

“In light of the current security situation in Zamfara, Katsina, and other parts of the country, the Bauchi State government has registered hunters in the state’s 20 local government areas. With the help of security agencies, the hunters will assist in routine patrol as well as dislodge suspected bandit camps in the state’s forests,” the governor’s security aide said.

Alkaleri, who is also the state chairman of the Nigerian Hunters Association, said that registered hunters had been patrolling the state’s nooks and crannies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to make citizens sleep with their eyes closed. He went on to say that the hunters were working with security agents in all of the state’s 20 local government areas.

He said that in the state, hunters recently arrested 29 suspects accused of kidnapping, banditry, and armed robbery, and that they also demolished a kidnappers’ camp between Dass and Tafawa Balewa.

He then urged traditional rulers, particularly district, village, and ward heads, to continue to provide security agencies with all necessary support and cooperation in order to make Bauchi the most peaceful state in the country.

On his part, Air Commodore Ahmed Tijjani Baba Gamawa (rtd) said that, despite the country’s current security situation, particularly in some Northern states, “we are really lucky in Bauchi State.” Only Bauchi is peaceful when compared to the rest of the Northeast sub-region.”

He claimed that, despite the fact that bandits and other criminal elements may be tempted to flee to Bauchi and other neighboring states as a result of the military’s onslaught, such disgruntled elements would find it difficult to gain access to Bauchi State due to the measures already in place.

This, he claims, is due to the fact that the state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, does not take security issues lightly, adding that the governor has been providing logistics for the state’s security agencies.

“The governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, is the type of person who takes security seriously. He collaborates with security agencies and looks after security operatives by providing vehicles and other logistics. He also ensures that they have everything they need to do their jobs well, such as securing the state to prevent bandits and other bad people from entering,” the retired military officer explained.

“We have military and police checkpoints,” he said, adding that all entry points into the state have been secured.

Despite the fact that the situation is peaceful, other stakeholders interviewed believe that security agencies and the state government should not rest on their laurels in order to avoid being caught off guard by bandits, insurgents, and other criminals.

CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, has described how men from the command turned down a N500,000 bribe allegedly offered by suspected cultists.

This was stated in a press release titled, “Armed Robbery Suspect, Cultist Nabbed; Arms, Ammunition Recovered.”

An anti-crime patrol team from Area ‘J’ Command, Elemoro, arrested an armed robbery suspect and a suspected cultist with a locally made double barrel gun and three cartridges, according to the PPRO.

“The armed robbery suspect, Alabi Timothy ‘m’, 23, of 9, Baale Street, Majek, Ajah, was arrested at General Paint, Garden area, Lekki, at about 0030hrs on 4/9/2021 during a routine stop and search by the police.

In June of 2021, the suspect confessed to being initiated into the Aye Confraternity.”
“Two suspects have been arrested for offering bribes to the police in order to secure the release of the two suspects and pervert the course of justice,” Ajisebutu continued.
While Adariku Sunday ‘m’, 34, of 66, Henry Smith Close, Abidjan GRA, Ajah, offered a cash bribe of N400,000 to secure the release of the robbery suspect, Folorunso Akeem, (m), 43, offered a cash bribe of N100,000 to secure the release of the suspected cultist.

“Determined to ensure justice through a thorough investigation, the case’s unyielding police officers turned down the bribe.

“While praising the police officers’ professionalism and unwavering actions, Commissioner of Police (Hakeem Odumosu) cautions other officers to follow in the footsteps of the incorruptible ones.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is welcome to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the party.

Senator John Akpanudoedehe, the APC’s National Secretary, stated this on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday night.

According to Akpanudoedehe, Jonathan, like every other new member, will be given the same rights and privileges as all other members, regardless of when they joined.

He said this in response to a question about whether rumors that the party was courting Jonathan to join and run for president in the 2023 general elections were true.

“I’m not going to speculate.” Everyone is welcome to join the APC, and we encourage everyone to do so. In terms of our progressive agenda, we are becoming more powerful. For the first time, I’m hearing that if he comes, we’ll welcome him, which is fantastic news.

Gerard Pique reacts to Barcelona’s Champions League loss to Bayern Munich

Gerard Pique, a Barcelona defender, claims he has no idea how many “kids” Barcelona used against Bayern Munich.

Pique made the remark after Barcelona’s 3-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

Barcelona’s quest to win the Champions League without Lionel Messi began with a home defeat to Bayern Munich.

Thomas Muller scored once before Robert Lewandowski’s second-half brace gave Bayern Munich an emphatic victory.

As a result of the result, Barcelona has now lost their last three Champions League home matches.

Pique, on the other hand, was dissatisfied after the game, citing the lack of experienced options on the Barcelona bench as a major concern moving forward.

“We competed in the first half, Bayern took the lead on a deflected goal,” Pique said after the game in his post-game press conference.

“At the end of the day, I’m not sure how many kids we had on. “It is what it is, and we are what we are,” says the narrator.

Barcelona’s next LaLiga match will be against Granada on Monday.
