This latest development was confirmed by the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who stated that Obi Cubana was allowed to leave after the commission finished questioning him.

This also comes after several reports that he was released a few days ago; however, the commission came out to refute these reports and explain why Cubana was still in custody.

Obi Cubana was in the news prior to his arrest because of the lavish funeral he organized for his mother.

I stopped going to church because pastor always criticizing Buhari — Adesina

0

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, claims he stopped attending a church in Abuja because the pastor was constantly criticizing the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

This was stated by Adesina in an article titled ‘This Kumuyi is Simply Different’ published on Thursday in support of a statement made by the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi.

Although Adesina did not specify which church he left, according to his public profile, he is a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church, where he was ordained a pastor and has been a member since 1988.

The President’s spokesman said in the article that it was unfortunate that some pastors had turned their pulpits into soapboxes from which they spew hatred.

“I used to attend an Abuja church from 2015 to 2018, until the pastor began to see himself as someone who had to bring the Buhari government down,” he wrote. It was all kinds of criticism from the pulpit, Sunday after Sunday. But I persevered because it was a branch of a church I had been attending for over 30 years. Until one day, he went too far.

“The Dapchi girls were kidnapped, and the pastor did not call President Buhari that Sunday.” It was appalling that such things could be said from the pulpit. But I sat through the sermon, or what was supposed to be a sermon, for a long time. I then went home, wondering where the God’s church was going.”

Adesina stated that after the majority of the Dapchi girls were rescued, the pastor did not think it was appropriate to commend the President for his subsequent service.

However, the President’s aide praised Kumuyi for saying last week that Christians should not “disdain those in power because they appear to be failing to deliver on electoral promises.”

While a former Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Prof. Dapo Asaju, was within his rights to be upset about the state of the country, he added that the Buhari administration was doing a lot to improve the country’s fortunes.
According to Adesina, some men of God predicted that Buhari would lose the 2019 election, but it turned out to be a forgery.

“Regardless of their titles, I hear bishops, apostles, prophets, pastors, and evangelists cursing the government and issuing doomsday warnings.” One even publicly stated that the Buhari administration would end before the 2019 elections. But the man won handsomely, and that preacher is still strutting and fretting on the pulpit every week, not repenting in sackcloth and ashes,” Adesina said.

He noted that during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, some pastors came out to support the protesting youths, but they quickly returned to their shells when the protests became out of hand.

“Pastor Kumuyi also says that if you are a true believer in Christ, you would not go on the rampage, destroying government property,” Adesina added. However, this was not the case in the country in October of last year. Under the guise of EndSARS, the country was almost completely destroyed.

“Unfortunately, they were encouraged by pastors and preachers who simply despise the fact that their President is a Fulani man.” Many of them are on record as encouraging the protesters until things turned ugly and awry. And then the pastors vanished into thin air. There was no word of caution or restraint as cities burned and police officers were killed and even eaten up.”

Army will train 21, 885 people in 2022

The Nigerian Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) announced on Thursday that 21,885 soldiers will receive various training in 2022 to improve their ability to deal with security challenges in the country.

The training was designed for cadets, recruits, and special forces, according to TRADOC Commander Major General SO Olabanji, who revealed this when testifying before the House of Representatives Committee on Army to defend the command’s budget for 2022.
In his presentation, Olabanji proposed a budget of N43.3 billion for TRADOC in 2022, which would cover personnel emoluments, capital, and overhead costs.

The budget proposal includes N30.8 billion for personnel emolument, N4.9 billion for overhead, and N7.4 billion for capital projects.

He said the TRADOC training for 2022 was designed for 3,885 cadets expected to be commissioned into the Nigerian Army’s officers’ cadre; 18,000 recruits as other ranks; and 4,800 special forces cadets among the commissioned and other cadres.

Watermanship, deep-diver, airborne, and leaving off the land are among the aspects of the training mentioned by Olabanji, as are target acquisition, tracker, assailing, and repelling, as well as counterterrorism and counterinsurgency.

He explained that the training was aimed at increasing the army’s personnel strength and fighting capabilities in order to combat insecurity.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim was among dignitaries that witnessed the signing of the Peace Accord by political parties and their candidates ahead of the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra State.

Also in attendance at the event organised by the National Peace Committee in Awka today were the Chairman of the Committee and former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar; INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu; General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army Major General TA Lagbaja; representative of the Inspector-General of Police, other top security officers, traditional rulers and clerics.

In his address, the Chairman of the National Peace Committee General Abdulsalami Abukakar decried violence, ballot box snatching, vote buying and other irregularities that often marred elections in the country.

He said the committee, which had been contributing to the improvement of the electoral process since its inception, was concerned about the peace of Anambra State.

Abubakar, therefore, called on all the political parties and their supporters to be committed to ensuring violence-free election and accept the outcome.

In his remarks, the INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu commended the National Peace Committee for its role in ensuring credible and peaceful conduct of elections in the country.

Yakubu noted that the accord brokered by the Committee contributed in no small measure to the peaceful conduct of the Governorship Elections in Edo and Ondo States last year, while also expressing confidence that similar feat would be achieved with that of Anambra State.

He called on all parties that signed the accord to abide by its spirit and letters.

Also speaking, the representative of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Joseph Egbunike  said security agencies had mapped out strategies for peaceful conduct of the election, and assured that they would be firm and professional in their approach.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim used the opportunity of his presence in the State to pay courtesy visits to the Commander 302 Artillery Regiment Onitsha, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police and the Director, Department of State Services.

He thanked the agencies for their support for the Scheme, especially in the area of security and welfare of Corps members, and called for the sustenance of the cordial working relationship.

In their separate responses, the Commander 302 Artillery Regiment Colonel AB Usman and the Commissioner of Police Mr. Echeng E. Echeng assured of their support for the Scheme be sustained.

Ibrahim also addressed Corps members in Awka, the State capital.  He enjoined those of them that would be engaged in the conduct of the election to perform their duty with high sense of responsibility.

He urged them to act as impartial umpires and be guided by the provisions of the electoral laws.

IPOB Breaks Silence, Claims We Didn’t Call For Election Boycott in Anambra

Members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have denied calling for a boycott of the anticipated Saturday governorship election in Anambra State ahead of the November 6 governorship election.

The outlawed group had declared a one-week sit-at-home order in solidarity with its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is being held by the Department of State Services, according to the Daily Independent (DSS).

Following the declaration, various groups claimed that the secessionist group had threatened to boycott the Anambra election if Kanu was not released before the election date.

Following the declaration, various groups claimed that the secessionist group had threatened to boycott the Anambra election if Kanu was not released before the election date.
“This action has nothing to do with the election in Anambra.” We are unconcerned about whether or not anyone wants to vote in the Anambra election. However, our only advice to Ndi Anambra residents, particularly those planning to vote, is to be extremely cautious about their safety.

The banned organization stated that it had not asked anyone to enforce sit-at-home orders, and that a voice message purportedly emanating from it, warning hoteliers in Anambra State to close their doors, was false.

“We want to state categorically that IPOB has not asked anyone to monitor or enforce any sit-at-home because it is unnecessary because Biafrans willingly and consciously obey IPOB’s call for Sit-At-Home.”

“Our people are tired of the suffering and oppressive conditions imposed on us by the abomination known as Nigeria, and they don’t need persuasion to act.

“We also want to distance IPOB from a viral voice message warning hotel owners in Anambra to close their doors on November 4th.” IPOB never made the aforementioned voice note. In their desperate attempt to implicate IPOB, our oppressors have created yet another work of art. As a result, we urge members of the public to disregard such nonsense. Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB is not the author.”

NCC: Four innovative tech startups will receive N20 million in grants

0

Prof. Umar Danbatta, NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman, is accompanied by dignitaries at the grand prize ceremony on Thursday in Abuja, where he is represented by Alhasan Haru.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has awarded a N20 million grant to four deserving Nigerian tech startups for their innovative digital solutions aimed at reducing insecurity and advancing Nigeria’s IoT frontier.

Prof. Umar Danbatta, NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman, stated this on Thursday in Abuja during the grand prize award ceremony for the ‘Virtual NCC Internet of Things (IoT) Code Camp and Hackathon 2021,’ held at the commission’s headquarters.

Clearflow system Hub and Aelaus Engineering teams/Hyech Electronics solutions were two startups that focused on IoT (Internet of Things) for kidnapping and banditry.

Kalibotics and CyberNorth Tech, the other two startups, focused on assistive robotics for effective e-waste management.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the winners of the second edition of the startup awards each received a N5 million grant.

The event, according to Danbatta, was planned in accordance with the Commission’s Strategic Vision Plan 2021-2025 as well as the Nigerian Economic Sustainability Plan (NESP).

Alhasan Haru, NCC’s Director of New Media and Information Security, represented the executive vice-chairman.

“Today’s event is in line with Nigeria’s Economic Sustainability Plan (NESP) 2020, which emphasizes the importance of promoting local production, services, innovation, and the use of local materials,” he said.

“This is in accordance with the Presidential Executive Order 5 of 2017, which mandates the promotion of Nigerian content in contracts as well as science, engineering, and technology.”

“Through this event, the Commission’s Strategic Vision Plan 2021-2025 is demonstrated, which captures the need to encourage the development of new technologies and indigenous content through cutting-edge research in order to stimulate sustained economic growth and development in Nigeria.”

“Our goal for this year’s Hackathon is to test our young digital-driven population’s creativity and harness their innovative prowess to develop Smart Solutions.”

“To use emerging technologies to address banditry, kidnapping, and e-waste management challenges.”

Mr Ubale Maska, NCC Commissioner, Technical Services, had earlier stated that the event had demonstrated the critical role that the telecommunications sector plays in providing innovative solutions to Nigeria’s social and environmental problems.

Maska, who was represented by Kelechi Nwokwo, the NCC’s Head of Research and Development, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to continuing to support innovations for nation building.

He stated that the goal was to develop innovative Internet of Things (IOT) solutions to combat kidnapping and banditry, as well as to improve the country’s e-waste management.

“We received 54 proposals from 34 organizations at the close of entry, but after a two-stage evaluation by the panel of judges, four top startups, two from each of the Hackathon’s thematic areas, were chosen to pitch.”

He said there were four final winning digital solutions from indigenous startups.

Dr. Uche Uwaje, the Chairman of the Panel of Judges, stated that all of the entries deserved to win.

One of the winners, Mr Francis Idachaba, CEO of Clearflow System Hub, responded by saying he would put the grant to good use and achieve the goal for which it was intended.

The initiatives were applauded by representatives from security agencies, telecommunications operators, the National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), and other sister agencies.

According to NAN, the first edition of this event was held in 2020, and the winners took home N9 million in prizes.

Nigerian POS transactions drop N552.3 billion

0

In October 2021, Nigerian POS transactions fell by 0.74 percent to N552.26 billion, down from N556.36 billion the previous month.

This is according to data obtained by Nairametrics from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, NIBSS.

Despite a 33.6 percent increase in transaction volume to 91.39 million from 87.71 million in September 2021, the value of POS transactions fell.

According to further analysis of the data, the number of POS terminals deployed in October increased by 7.6% month over month to 764,589 in the previous month.

In October 2021, the value of POS transactions fell by 0.74 percent month on month to N552.3 billion. However, when compared to the N460.95 billion recorded in the same period of 2020, it increased by 19.81 percent.

Between January and October 2021, a total of N5.17 trillion in POS transactions were recorded, which is 40.9 percent higher than the N3.67 billion recorded in the same period of 2020.

In the month under review, the number of transactions increased by 33.6 percent to 91.36 million. It increased by 4.2 percent month over month from the 87.8 million transactions recorded in September 2021.

To 764,589, the total number of deployed terminals increased by 7.6% month over month and 82 percent year over year.

The number of POS transactions continues to rise across Nigeria, as the country’s adoption of cashless transactions has increased dramatically since the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

Nigerians had to transact from the comfort of their homes due to the federal government’s lockdown measures in response to the virus’s spread, as they were unable to visit banking halls during this time.

NNPC opposes banks’ decision to reduce funding for fossil fuels

0

Mallam Mele Kyari, the Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, has expressed his displeasure with financial institutions and banks’ decision to reduce funding for fossil fuels, a situation brought about by the global rush to reduce carbon emissions.

Kyari expressed his dissatisfaction with banks’ and financial institutions’ reluctance to reduce fossil fuel funding at the 2021 Strategic International Annual Conference of the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) in Lagos.

The conference’s theme was “Petroleum Industry Act: Energy Transition and Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Future.”

He insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari has requested energy justice and other plan B measures to cushion the impact of reduced funding for fossil fuels on the Nigerian economy, given that oil is the country’s main source of revenue.

The NNPC boss, who joined the event via Zoom from Scotland, stated that Nigeria is still energy deficient, citing a lack of infrastructure for the energy transition.

“As a country, we are energy deficient, as evidenced by our lack of electricity,” he said. We continue to produce less than what is required.

“At the moment, we do not have the resources in Nigeria to make that switch to cleaner energy.”

“Mr. President is so eager to switch to cleaner alternative energy that he has demanded energy justice for all from us.”

“Backbone infrastructure project OB3 is still ongoing in this regard. The project must be expanded and completed within the specified time frame of 24 months.”

“The banks, the financial sector, have been very reluctant in financing fossil fuel and energy transition for Nigeria for obvious reasons,” Kyari said of the industry’s challenges.

Regardless, we will do everything we can to participate in the energy transition.”

Mele Kyari also assuaged concerns about a disruption in the supply of petroleum products, following reports of resurgence of queues in some parts of the country.

The GMD also explained why Nigeria is seeking energy justice at the United Nations.

In the midst of the global push for energy transition, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) is currently taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.

The NNPC’s goal, according to Kyari, is to ensure Nigeria’s energy security and the availability of petroleum products.

“As we speak, the media is speculating about fuel scarcity, but we have over 1.7 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit in the country,” he said.

“We have another 2.3 billion litres on the way, so there is no supply shortage as has been speculated,” he said.

“Of course, some depots have pricing issues, but the government has no plans to change the pricing structure.”

The COP26, according to Kyari, highlights the challenges Nigeria and other African countries face in the global energy transition.

President Muhammadu Buhari, he said, had demanded energy justice for Africa in his address to world leaders, as well as the need to exploit available resources as a means of achieving the net-zero carbon goal by 2050.

Despite accounting for only about 3% of global carbon emissions, the NNPC boss stated that Africa had a responsibility to join the rest of the world in combating climate change.

According to him, Nigeria has identified its abundant gas resources as the fuel for its energy transition, prompting the government to declare the years 2021 to 2030 the Decade of Gas.

“We are making good progress in terms of implementing the PIA, which is clearly laying the groundwork for transition,” Kyari said.

“Without adequate infrastructure to transport the resources to where they will be used, we will not be able to achieve this feat, which is why we are investing heavily in massive gas infrastructure.”

The Obiafu-Obrikon-Oben (OB3) and Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipelines, he said, are among the projects that will increase gas utilization in the country.

Mr Biodun Adesanya, the Conference Chairman, praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s decision to set aside 30% of its profit for exploration activities in the PIA’s frontier basins.

The discovery of oil and gas resources in areas other than the Niger Delta, according to Adesanya, is a welcome development that the country should pursue aggressively.

He did, however, call for the appointment of qualified personnel to oversee the sector, stating that this was the only way Nigerians could benefit from the country’s vast oil and gas reserves.

The passage of the PIA, according to Mr Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, has opened up a vista of opportunities for the industry.

Mr Tunde Adelana, Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, NCDMB, represented Wabote, who stated that the implementation would have a positive impact on local content development and host communities.

He went on to say that it would also help the oil and gas industry attract much-needed investment.

Mr Olu Phillips, Chairman, NAEC, said earlier in his welcome address that statistics show that over 100,000 people die each year in Nigeria as a result of indoor inhalation of waste gases.

According to Phillips, this has informed the global energy transition, and the Nigerian government is responding by focusing on the most efficient use of the country’s gas resources.

Professor of Petroleum Economics Wumi Iledare, President Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Patricia Ochogbu, and Managing Director, Degeconeck Nigeria Limited, Biodun Adesanya, who also spoke at the NAEC conference, collaborated with Kyari’s statement on banks’ reluctance to fund fossil fuels.

Patricia Ochogbu, the NAPE President, has advocated for the creation of an Energy Bank, a financial institution dedicated to providing funding for the energy sector.

Ochogbu stated that while oil and gas investments are capital intensive, the exposure to these investments has proven to be a burden for Nigerian commercial banks.

“Investing in oil prospecting is capital-intensive and high-risk. NAPE, Nigeria’s association of explorationists, has acknowledged dwindling investment in exploration as a group. As a result, we have called for the establishment of an energy bank, which will be solely responsible for the funding of industry projects,” she said.

Tinubu says, “We must get to the bottom of this heinous incident.”

0

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos State Governor and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has backed Governor Babajide Sanwo-order Olu’s for an investigation into what caused the collapse of the 21-story building on Gerald Road in Ikoyi.

He stated that the government must investigate the heinous incident, while also stating that he did not want to “prejudge anything or anyone.”

“It is clear to all of us that something went horribly wrong. If there has been intentional or reckless wrongdoing, those who have shied away from their basic responsibilities should face severe and appropriate penalties. The departed, their bereaved families, and the people of Lagos deserve and should demand no less.”

Tinubu’s Media Office in Abuja issued a statement yesterday expressing his condolences for the deceased, sympathy for other victims of the incident, and condemnation of the collapse.

“The collapse of a 21-story building on Gerald Road in Ikoyi, Lagos is a sad and painful incident,” the former Lagos governor said in a statement. Once again, and far too frequently, we have witnessed the loss of lives for no justifiable reason. This tragedy should never have happened in the first place.

“No one, including workers at the site, who are simply trying to work in order to care for their loved ones, should have their lives cut short in this way.” Nobody should have to go through what these people did. Families should not have to hear such news or bear such a burden. While we pray for the deceased’s souls to rest in peace, human compassion demands that we do more. During this difficult time, we must reach out to their families with prayers as well as practical support and assistance.

“I sympathize with those who have been injured, and I commend the Lagos State Government for seeing to their immediate medical needs and providing whatever other assistance is needed for them to survive the incident and return to a normal life.”

“The emergency responders are doing an excellent job, and they need our support and encouragement because their job is difficult and dangerous. We hope and pray that others will be found alive and unharmed. Search and rescue efforts must continue indefinitely until whoever is still trapped in the rubble can be rescued.”

“Some tragedies are unavoidable, but most are not,” Tinubu added. We need to figure out what went wrong here so we can work harder to prevent it from happening again. I agree with Governor Sanwo-decision Olu’s to launch an investigation into the tragedy. There are a lot of questions to ask, and all of them deserve complete and public answers.

“We have to get to the bottom of this heinous crime. I try not to pass judgment on anything or anyone, but it is clear to all of us that something went horribly wrong. If there has been intentional or reckless wrongdoing, those who have shied away from their basic responsibilities should face severe and appropriate penalties. The departed, their bereaved families, and the people of Lagos are entitled to, and should demand, more.

“We must be clear and focused as much as we are in collective pain and grief.” Let us use this tragedy as a strong warning and deterrent to put an end to any malpractices or misconduct that might have contributed to this tragedy in any way.

“We must never become numb to other people’s tragedies; we must work and strive to put an end to these terrifying events and the brutal but avoidable deaths that accompany them.” Lagos is and will always be a place of light and life, where the best of human achievement serves as our currency and calling card.”

The opposition is shaken by Jonathan’s support for Nwankpo

0

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s endorsement of African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Akachukwu Nwankpo in the November 6, 2021 election has jolted opposition parties in the state.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed his former aide, who is running on the ADC platform, saying Nwankpo is the type of self-satisfied governor the state deserves.

When ADC’s governorship candidate, Nwankpo, paid him a visit, Jonathan said Nwankpo is fit and proper and possesses all the qualities that a governor needs to govern a state.

“From what I’ve learned about Nwankpo, he is neither a thief nor a greedy person. I know a few governors who are zealous in their pursuit of public funds. “Such governors have a tendency to cut corners or misappropriate funds under their control, for example, when awarding contracts,” he claimed.

According to an investigation by The Guardian, the endorsement has jolted other parties, who see Nwankpo not only as a candidate with no political baggage, but also as a contestant who emerged from a smooth primary without a legal battle.

Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, the ADC’s National Chairman, stated in response that the party remains the only credible alternative political party in Anambra State.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is on a mission to free Anambra State from godfatherism, end political slavery, and restore the people’s voice. You are the foundation of the new Anambra. Join hands with ADC to make Anambra Africa’s Ijele,” he said.

The superiority of the people’s will over the power of incumbency, according to Nwosu, will be demonstrated in the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 6, 2021.

ALSO, Anthony Aniebue, the state secretary of the ADC, claimed that political propaganda had gotten the state into a hopeless situation, claiming that “Nwankpo has, going through his antecedents with Goodluck Jonathan while in office, convinces him of a better choice than other candidates.”

Meanwhile, Pastor Law Ughamadu, the ADC deputy governorship candidate, has turned down tempting offers from some billionaire-backed parties to defect from the party ahead of the election.

Ughamadu acknowledged that he had received overtures and pressures to defect, but he insisted that he was not going anywhere.

He gave the reasons as being formed by childhood principles of loyalty and steadfastness.

Ughamadu, a renowned pastor of Dominion City Church who is said to have been anointed by the Christian Association of Nigeria’s (CAN) Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) bloc, is equally popular in the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches.

According to a source who requested anonymity, Ughamadu’s reputation as a spirited individual speaks for itself, a quality that has drawn widespread attention across the state.

“Loyalty and principles, to him, come before everything, and that’s why he’s still sticking in,” he said, adding that Ughamadu refused to accept the invitation despite the fact that it came with very attractive terms and conditions.
