FG intends to increase crude oil production by 100 percent

0

The Federal Government has pledged to rebuild the upstream sector in response to Nigeria’s declining oil production, increasing crude oil output by 100% to 3.0 million barrels per day, up from an average of 1.5 million this year.

Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, announced the news at the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPEInternational )’s Conference and Exhibition in Lagos.

Mr Komolafe stated, “As the upstream technical and commercial regulator, we are committed to addressing these issues in order to increase our reserves to 40 billion barrels and increase our production to three million barrels per day.”

The NUPRC chief added that the government would work to address a number of issues, including oil theft, insecurity, and aging infrastructure.

“Collaborative efforts between operators and communities, as well as the deployment of cutting-edge technology to monitor pipelines in remote areas,” he said, are on track.

“As a commission, we have already begun consultation with relevant stakeholders in order to achieve these goals.” To prevent crude leakages and spills caused by aging facilities, a more aggressive policy on routine Asset Integrity Management will be implemented.

In just nine months, Nigerian businesses generate N1.3 trillion in free cash flow

0

Between January and September 2021, the major listed companies operating in Nigeria reported a cumulative cash flow of N1.307 trillion.

The N1.307 trillion in cash flows generated thus far through September 2021, according to data sourced by our Nairalytics research unit, is 3.5 percent higher than the N1.262 trillion in free cash flow generated during the same period last year.

The data set includes Nigerian quoted companies that earn more than 90% of their revenues in the country, including cement manufacturers, brewers, conglomerates, construction companies, and oil and gas companies.
After deducting operating expenses, cash flow from operations represents the actual cash generated by a business from sales. It is an important aspect of a company’s finances because it shows how much cash an organization can generate from its regular operations to help with operations, pay debts, invest in capital expenditures, and pay dividends to shareholders.

This huge operating cash flow surplus by Nigerian companies is remarkable, especially given the tumultuous 2021 headwinds of rising input material costs, lack of access to forex, low purchasing power, and insecurity, all of which threaten to erode profits and empty their coffers.

Nigerian companies, on the other hand, have shown continued resiliency by reporting higher-than-expected revenue growth while making pricing adjustments to support the increase in operating cash flows generated during the period under review.

In the first nine months of 2021, the companies spent a total of N671.3 billion and N729.0 billion on investing and financing activities, respectively.

In the same period a year ago, the figures were N539.8 billion and N283.2 billion, respectively.
It’s important to note that net cash flow from investing refers to capital expenditures like property, plant, and equipment, whereas net cash flow from financing refers to net borrowings and dividend payouts.

In addition, the companies had a higher cash pile of N1.2 trillion as of September 2021, compared to a cumulative cash balance of N1.1 trillion at the same time last year.
More Cash Flows minus Revenue
Positive operating cash flow is a major indicator of a company’s performance, and it is frequently preferred over revenues and profits. Particularly for dividend-seeking investors. Analysts frequently use “operating cash flow margin,” a measure of cash from operations as a percentage of revenues, as a metric for how well companies can convert revenue into cash.

According to Nairalytics, the operating cash flow margin fell to 21% in September 2021, down from 27% the previous year.

Companies generated revenues of N4.69 trillion and N5.9 trillion in 2020 and 2021, respectively, according to Nairametrics. The companies’ operating cash flow margins have shrunk, implying that they have struggled to convert more of their revenues into cash. This is due in part to the inability to pass on 100 percent of cost increases to consumers.
Surprisingly, operating cash flow margins fell across all industries as most businesses struggled to keep up with cost increases despite raising prices. For example, Dangote Cement, Lafarge, and BUA Cement, three of the country’s largest cement companies, reported an operating cash flow margin of 43.9 percent, down from 56.2 percent a year ago.

Out of a revenue of N1 trillion, Dangote Cement generated a net operating cash flow of N449 billion. In 2020, they were N376 billion and N761 billion, respectively.
FMCGs also struggled, with an operating cash flow margin of only 12% in 2021, down from 19% last year.
MTN, on the other hand, increased its OCF margins from 19 percent to 24.3 percent.
After reporting negative free operating cash flow, Julius Berger was the only company on the list with a negative OCF margin.
MTN, Dangote, and BUA are at the forefront of the industry.
Dangote Cement, MTN, and BUA Cement, three of Nigeria’s largest companies, account for about 65 percent of the total N1.3 trillion cash generated during the period under review.

Dangote Cement raked in the most money, with N449 billion, followed by MTN with N292 billion and BUA with N111.8 billion.
BUA Cement, on the other hand, saw a decrease in free cash flows when compared to the other two.
As business picked up during the year, consumer goods companies such as Nestle, Dangote Sugar, Flour Mill, and Nigerian Breweries reported strong free cash flows.

“On the 23rd of October, 2021, a case of stealing was reported by a resident of Ijapo extension, who observed that her house had been burgled by unknown thieves and that part of her valuables had been carted away after she returned from a business trip,” Salami wrote. Two laptops worth N545,000, a headset worth N44,000, a clipper worth N86,000, and jewelries worth N4 million were among the items stolen, according to her.

Marafa Threatens APC: We Will Show Mai Mala The Way Out

Kabiru Marafa, the lawmaker representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District, has dismissed the threat of expulsion by the All Progressives Congress Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
In response to the alleged plan to expel him, Marafa threatened to sue Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, the chairman of the APC’s national caretaker committee, for allegedly violating the party’s constitution in the conduct of the party’s affairs.

Marafa was warned in a statement released by the committee’s secretary, John James Akpanudodehe, to submit to party supremacy or face sanctions.

Marafa in his reaction said he cannot be silenced by the threat of the caretaker committee.

Marafa said, “Expelling me from the party will only aggravate the problem.

“It will herald the beginning of the agitation; rule of law must be respected.

“The committee is illegal and alien to the constitution of the party, we are building everything on nothing.

“Rather than the expulsion threat, the committee or the chairman should respond to issues I raised.

“The function of the Mai Mala committee is to plan a convention just as its name implies, Mai Mala is the chairman of the APC convention planning committee and not APC itself.

“Section 17 (4) of the constitution of our beloved party, says ‘no officer in any organ of the party shall hold executive position office in government concurrently’.

“Article 20 states the only way the leadership of the party can evolve.

“We will show him the way out dishonourably. We would not allow the party we contributed immensely to develop to be destroyed by over-ambitious self-centred and enemies of the party and the country.

Mother of two who was wrongfully detained by Indian police cries out for help

After being wrongfully arrested by police in Delhi, India, a Nigerian mother of two has cried out.
The mother of two lamented the alleged mistreatment she and her children, ages three and two, were subjected to by officials after she was picked up around 6 p.m. while at her shop in a now-viral video.

According to her, no one could tell her what her crime was, and she was told she would have to spend the night at the station pending the arrival of the person in charge of her case.

The distraught woman noted that the police refused to offer her children any meal even after complaining of hunger.

She said, “My Nigerian people, see me; I’ve been here since 6 pm with my two children. The first one is three years; the second one is two years. Since they brought us here, they did not ask us anything.

“They only came to ask my name, age and nationality which l answered them. That’s all they demanded for, nothing else. Around 11pm, my children complained of hunger and when l told them, they brought Indian meals that they could barely eat. They said my case would be attended to in the morning.

“You can’t clean innocent blood with lie Mohammed,” Burna Boy tells FG

The Lagos state inquiry panel into the October 20, 2020 shooting incident at the Lekki toll-gate, according to Grammy award-winner Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, has exploded the Federal Government’s well-woven lies.

“I just sleep, wake up see say government yansh open far and wide today,” Burna Boy wrote on his Instagram story in response to the panel’s report. Mohammed, you can’t clean innocent blood with lies.”

Mr Macaroni, DJ Switch, and Falz, among other Nigerian celebrities, had previously expressed their opinions on the panel’s findings.

The panel report, which unsettled government at both the Federal and state levels, found that both the Nigerian Army and police shot and killed unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Burna Boy had helped convey the wounded to the hospital during the infamous shooting of EndSARS protesters by the army at the tollgate in Lagos on October 20, 2020.

There had been varying reports on the activities of security operatives on that fateful day.

Lai Mohammed, minister for information, had claimed lives weren’t lost during the EndSARS protest at Lekki.

But the panel set up by the Lagos state government to probe the case recently listed 48 casualties of the protest.

It established, contrary to the federal government’s claims, that nine citizens died and four others went missing and are presumed dead.

A one-story building under construction in Flourmill Estate, Magbon, near Badagry, Lagos State, collapsed on Wednesday, killing four people and injuring five others.

Around 3 p.m., the building collapsed on the nine construction workers on-site, according to a witness, Oluwagbenga Ogundele.

Residents were alerted to the scene by a visitor to the site, according to Mr Ogundele, who works as a security guard near the site.

“The visitor was not in the building when it collapsed, but he was the one who called for help, and officers from Area ‘K’ arrived to save them.”

“We were able to rescue five alive because they were calling for help, while four of them gave up the ghost.

“Police, Fire Brigade and our intervention saved those that survived,” the witness told NAN.

NAN also reports that the five injured labourers were taken to Catholic Church Hospital, Magbon, while the four dead bodies had been deposited at Badagry General Hospital mortuary.

One of the elders in the Estate who spoke on condition of anonymity told NAN that the building had been abandoned by the owner for close to six years before work resumed on it recently.

“It was recently that a new owner started building another floor on top to make it a storey building.

“Around 3p.m., we had a loud sound and when we got to the scene, the building had collapsed on the labourers working inside it,” he said.

Ibrahim Farinloye, South-West Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, confirmed the incident.

International group commends NYSC DG on fight against fake graduates mobilised for service

The International Society on Transparency (IST) has hailed the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, for flushing out fake graduates from the Scheme.

The group in a statement on Wednesday said the DG’s radical approach has drastically checkmated the mobilisation of ineligible Nigerians for the compulsory one-year service.

Recall that the NYSC recently held the second edition of its management meeting with heads of higher institutions of learning from some African countries.

Speaking at the event, the DG lamented the “outright sale of degree certificates to persons who never saw the four walls of University”.

He noted that this “category of persons was unable to communicate in English language or express themselves on paper, to defend their qualifications”.

Since he assumed office in May 2019, Brig-Gen Ibrahim has launched a campaign against fake graduates mobilised for the NYSC scheme.

In August same year, over 10 fake NYSC members were nabbed in different parts of the country.

Two months later, 85 others were handed over to the police for trial after they were arrested in camps nationwide with fake documents.

The Scheme has continued to fish out fake graduates across the country since then and the International Society on Transparency has lauded the DG for this campaign.

According to its Executive Secretary, Francis Maxwell, this has built confidence in the NYSC.

Maxwell noted that relevant stakeholders are collaborating more with the Scheme.

He, however, urged the Director-General to maintain the momentum in his quest to rid the nation of fake graduates.

COVID-19: Over 5m Nigerians have received vaccination – NPHCDA

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) announced that, more than 5.8 million have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine since the commencement of the vaccination.

Mrs Deborah Oladipo, the Kwara Coordinator of NPHCDA, disclosed this on Tuesday in Ilorin on the sidelines of the mass COVID-19 vaccination in the state.

According to her, a total of 5,891,305 Nigerians or 5.3 per cent of the overall eligible population have taken their dose, while 3,252,067 or 2.9 per cent have received their second dose and are fully vaccinated.

“As we are all aware, the overall population of eligible persons targeted for COVID-19 vaccination to enable the country reach herd immunity against the disease is 111,776,503.

“With this figure, you will agree with me that this is a tiny fraction of our
population.

“We still have a long way to go for a sizable number of our population to be fully vaccinated. The year is gradually coming to an end and with its resultant flurry of activities,” she said.

Oladipo observed that there would continue to be mass movement of people into and across the country, and that there would also be intrastate movements and gatherings in the forms of parties and celebrations.

“We cannot deny the fact that the virus is still very much with us. There has been an upsurge in the number of people infected with the virus in recent times according to the statistics released by the NCDC.
