Gov. Matawalle appeals for unity as three APC LG congresses take place simultaneously in Zamfara

Zamfara’s governor, Bello Matawalle, called on all factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to put down their swords and unite on Saturday.

Mr Matawalle made the request while speaking to APC delegates at the party’s Local Government (LG) conference in Maradun, Maradun LGA in the state.

In Zamfara, the APC is divided into three factions: Governor Matawalle’s side, AbdulAziz Yari’s faction, and Kabiru Marafa’s faction.

“I still insist that APC in the state is still one family since no court or even the national headquarters of the party has instructed the party in the state to suspend its congresses,” the governor remarked at the congress in Maradun, the headquarter of his LGA.

Mr Matawalle stated, “The fact that there was no court order or instruction from the party’s headquarters to prohibit the congresses suggests clearly that the congresses are legitimate and acceptable.”

He, on the other hand, accused some APC members of misleading those criticizing the party’s leadership in both the state and at the national level, claiming that the time for harsh politics was passed and that politicians no longer preferred it.

“Today, the world is a global community in which developmental democracy thrives.

“Let us work together to construct a political, economic, and social state in Zamfara, regardless of political differences.”

“Through these congresses, the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has effectively elected officers to manage the party’s operations at the ward and local government levels,” the governor stated.

The factional congresses organized by Matawalle and Marafa in Gusau, Bakura, Bungudu, Maru, Maradun, Tsafe, and Kaura Namoda LGAs were held in high security.

The Yari-led side, on the other hand, boycotted the party’s congresses, urging his supporters not to attend and characterizing the process as unlawful.

His group had won a Federal High Court ruling mandating that the factions “keep the status quo” until the substantive suit was resolved.

At a rescheduled hearing on November 17, the court set a deadline of December 2 for a decision on the case.

Cameroun Seeks To Model Nigeria’s E-Government Policy Implementation

0

Cameroon is attempting to model and study the implementation of Nigeria’s e-government policy.

A delegation from Cameroon’s Ministry of Public Service and Administration Reforms recently visited Nigeria to inspect the depth of the E-government plan’s implementation and tour the level of infrastructure invested in helping Nigeria reach its current heights.

The Korean International Cooperation Agency, KOICA, assisted in the development and implementation of the plan.

The focal agency for implementing Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan has been Galaxy Backbone, a provider of digital infrastructure and shared services that is part of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

In light of this, they paid a visit to the organization to inspect the infrastructure and gain a better understanding of the Nigerian E-government implementation level.

At the Galaxy Backbone Corporate Headquarters, Professor Mohammad Abubakar, the Managing Director of GBB, welcomed the delegates led by Ms. Tabod Jacqueline Mejand, the Country’s Inspector General for the Cameroonian Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms.

He expressed his delight at the progress made by KOICA in Nigeria, and he looks forward to the work they will be doing to help the Cameroonian nation improve its level of e-Government.

According to Professor  Abubakar, ‘I am delighted that the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms is taking this giant step towards actualizing e-Government in Cameroun with the support of our friends and partners in KOICA. While I advise you to anticipate challenges along the way, there will be a lot of success you will record with this engagement’  He reiterated.

He further admonished the delegation to try as much as possible to be firm in their resolve and continue to seek new ways of implementing e-Government strategies in their country because of the huge benefits of e-Government to any nation. In his words; “We all know the benefits of e-government platforms. We have already started seeing the benefits in Nigeria”.

The Managing pledged the Agency’s support to the Camerounian delegation that the organization will do all within its power to partner, advise and help train the Camerounian people in the development of e-government in their country. GBB’s vision is “to become the leading enabler of digital inclusion in Africa”, hence the organization sees this as a path towards enabling digital services in other countries in Africa”, Professor Abubakar added

While responding,  the head of the Camerounian and KOICA, Ms.Mejand stated that Cameroun has a plan around e-government but lacks coordination and exposure hence this visit.

She expressed her appreciation to GBB for the warm reception and time taken to take them through. ‘We want to thank you for the opportunity given to visit your infrastructure because we realise that for e-Government to effectively take place in a country and go operational, we need infrastructure and the people to help train their decision-makers to have interest in e-Government,”  She said

The Delegation also visited the National Shared Services Centre (NSSC) which is managed by Galaxy Backbone and is home to GBB’s world-class Tier III Datacentre.

They were initially taken to the old Datacentre before visiting the Uptime certified Tier III Datacentre and Network Monitoring and Management Centre.

The Cameroonian delegates were very impressed at the level of investment and work the Nigerian government through Galaxy Backbone has put into ensuring that e-government in Nigeria is made a thing of the past.

Tinubu to declare intention January 2022, says Fashola: 2023 Presidency

Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that he will declare his intention to run for president in the 2023 elections in January 2022.

This was revealed by Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, who stated that Mr Tinubu has yet to inform him of his presidential bid.

“I saw him last week; he didn’t tell me he’s running for office, and the last statement he made about it, to the best of my knowledge, was that people would know in January,” Mr Fashola said during a Channels Television interview.

“No, I didn’t ask him,” Mr Fasola said when asked if he questioned the party chieftain about the rumors. “I only went to see how well he was doing.” “He has issued a statement that “I will speak in January,” so let’s wait for his speech,” the minister said.

Mr Fashola went on to say that he couldn’t immediately declare support for any candidate because he was waiting for an official announcement.

“As far as I’m aware, no one has said, ‘I want to be President of Nigeria.'” There are people who speak on behalf of others. Nobody has come forward yet; we aren’t there yet.

“I can’t go out on a limb and say I’ll speak for X or Y.” The minister said, “Let the person come out and say, “I want to serve Nigeria.”

“It hurts me sometimes when we see that very important job and responsibility to,” he continued, “my people said.” Mr Fashola stated, “I believe the whole point of it should be that I am capable, that I have to look at myself, that you give me your problem, and you go to sleep.”

While Mr. Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, has yet to make an official announcement, there have been hints that he may run to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Billboards and posters promoting his election campaign have flooded Nigeria’s major cities, particularly Lagos and Abuja, in recent months.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, launched a political group for Mr Tinubu’s presidential campaign in 2023 last month.

The SWAGA23 group was launched in Ikeja on October 7 to kick off campaign activities for the former Lagos governor.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said during the inauguration, “The SWAGA we are launching in Lagos today is a demonstration of Tinubu’s enduring political principles and strong vision.”

Mr. Seyi Makinde, the governor of OYO State, will be joined by his counterparts from Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo states, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN); General TY Danjuma; the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikir

Other dignitaries expected at the renowned cleric’s new work, “Waste of Grace,” include Otunba Subomi Balogun, Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Chief Bayo Oyero, bishops and priests, and others.

“Grace is having what you don’t deserve freely.” You can use it correctly or incorrectly. Many countries that lack what we have as a nation have surpassed us. God has blessed this country in every way, including natural and human resources, which is a sign of grace. God has even raised people, particularly religious leaders, to speak out against injustice and poor governance.

“Unfortunately, Nigeria is in this state despite all efforts to provide solutions to our problems,” he added. “As a cleric and church leader, we will not relent in contributing our quota towards the transformation of the nation, and I’m confident that this new work of mine will ignite a new wave for the betterment of the country.”

Mr. Ademola Afolabi, Communication Consultant for Ibadan North Diocese, stated that plans have been finalized to project the book’s powerful message to the public on December 16, at the Premier Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Mr. Clement Ige, Publisher/CEO of CEEDEE Resources, also stated that the much-anticipated 158 book is beneficial to Nigerians at all levels because the author identified the challenges to the nation’s growth and highlighted solutions for a resourceful life.

Appraising NYSC’s Role in Midwifing Credible Elections

0

The National Youth Service Corps has come under scrutiny in recent times regarding its relevance in the scheme of things in the country. Some stakeholders have consequently advocated for its scrapping. However, this position was countered by some schools of thought, who argued that the NYSC remains critical in the scheme of things in the country.

Another area of discourse is the involvement of the NYSC in elections in the country. It has also been argued that the participation of corps members in elections in the country has exposed them to harm, as evident in the unfortunate incident in 2011 where some corps members lost their lives as a result of electoral violence that characterised the elections in some parts of the country.
Consequently, this medium sought the views of stakeholders with regards to the role of the NYSC in nation-building and specifically in midwifing credible elections in Nigeria.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the country’s development. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps programme for one year.

Over the years, the scheme has evolved to play roles in some aspects of national life. One of such roles is the participation of youth corp members in elections as Adhoc staff. According to Igwe Ude, a youth empowerment advocate, he stated that the NYSC as an institution had played a critical role in the socio-economic development of Nigeria. He further asserted that there is a need for the government to continue to evolve strategies that would maximise the potentials of youths across the country.

“The NYSC is a critical component in nation-building in Nigeria. Its contribution to national development has been outstanding. Take the example of corp members as ad-hoc staff during elections. That is very critical if we must admit. Let us imagine how elections would have been without the involvement of corp members as ad-hoc staff.”

Bamidele Alolanle, a development expert, corroborated this view; he posited that the NYSC scheme has been contributing positively to sustainable growth and development in Nigeria. He averred that the challenge is that most people still see the NYSC in light of the ’80s, where the focus was exclusively that of national integration.

“The NYSC has evolved over the years into a scheme that addresses some of the contemporary challenges in the country. The recent drive with regards to skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development is a point to note. This is aside from the involvement of corp members in the conduct of elections in the country. The recent elections in Anambra state provide us with a good example of how critical the NYSC is in the conduct of elections. There was footage of the NYSC DG moving around the state encouraging corps members to give their best without compromising.”

This medium was able to gather from reliable sources that the management of the NYSC has been emphasising nonpartisanship on the part of corp members during elections. According to information collected from sources in the NYSC secretariat, it was revealed that before elections, the NYSC management sensitizes corp members on the rules of engagement during elections.

A top management staff of the NYSC, who pleaded anonymity, stated that the management of NYSC has continually emphasized fairness in the discharge of their duties during elections due to its critical role in the credibility of the electoral process in the country.

“If we recall, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would continue to use members of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for the conduct of elections in the country because corps members had contributed enormously to recent success and improvement in the overall conduct of elections in Nigeria.”

“This is informed by empirical evidence on how the NYSC has been instrumental to the success of elections in Nigeria. I can tell you that under the new dispensation, the DG of the NYSC has been outstanding in ensuring that the NYSC remains a partner in progress in the conduct of elections in Nigeria through numerous innovations and the Anambra elections provides us with an example that saw the DG on the ground in Anambra state to supervise the participation of corp members during the elections. This is a first and an indication of how dexterous the DG can be with regards to the operations of the NYSC.”

In a statement credited to the DG of the NYSC during the Anambra elections, he stated that corps members had written their names in the annals of history, having contributed towards the entrenchment of the credible electoral process. He enjoined them to remain impartial and perform their duties in line with the established rules.

In a similar vein, the governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, commended the involvement of the NYSC in general elections in Ekiti State. He stated that Ekiti was adjudged the freest and fairest; this was made possible because of the cooperation of stakeholders to deliver on their mandates, especially the NYSC.

This medium concludes that the role of the NYSC in midwifing credible elections in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, and it is hoped that the relevant stakeholders continue to extend support to the scheme in the fulfilment of its mandate.

International Men’s Day: Stop producing children you can’t train – Nigerians warned

0

As Nigerians join the rest of the world in commemorating International Men’s Day this year, health experts have advised couples to avoid having children they cannot support.

Every November 19, International Men’s Day is observed to honor positive male role models and increase awareness of men’s issues.

Many children are still victims of various forms of abuse, such as child marriages, sexual violence, abduction of children, molestation, child labor, and neglect, because their parents do not adequately provide for them, according to some health experts speaking at a one-day rally organized by Marie Stopes Nigeria to sensitize men on the importance of family planning.

Following the growing expense of living in contemporary Nigeria, Dr. Kingsley Odogwu, a vasectomy surgeon, warned newsmen that parents must take the problem of family planning seriously.

Women, according to Odogwu, are the ones who bore the burden of contraceptive techniques (including oral pills), implants, and intrauterine devices, among other things, when it comes to avoiding pregnancy.

He saw that the percentage of males who get a vasectomy is still relatively low, as is their awareness of the procedure.

“Instead of women having an operation solely to prevent a pregnancy from arising,” Odogwu pointed out, “it is easier and far cheaper for males to have a vasectomy.”

“It’s a treatment that can be completed in less than 15 minutes,” he says. This technique has no effect on erection, and sexual urge is as strong as it should be.”

Other specialists who spoke at the demonstration, including Anne Taiwo and Effiom Effiom, Country Director of Marie Stopes Nigeria, say it is wrong for parents to continue to create children they cannot care for.

Dangote sobs as he describes Sani’s death to Tinubu

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, became emotional on Friday as he told Senator Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), how his younger brother, Sani Dangote, died in a United States of America (USA) hospital last Sunday.

Sani died before him, his mother, and other members of his family, while on a life-supporting machine, he claimed.

“We have always known that where there is life, there is death,” Dangote stated. We, as Muslims, have no idea who will be next, and it may be today, tomorrow, or even right now.

“That is why it is important to be good so that when you arrive there, you can bid on whatever task you were given on Earth.”

“Your Excellency, (Abdullahi Umar Ganduje), you are our host because you are the governor of all of us, and we sincerely appreciate you spending nearly a week battling the masses, which is not easy.

“I appreciate all of your prayers and support.” This will truly assist us in reducing the agony that we are experiencing. It’s been a difficult period for us; especially for me, it’s been difficult; we’ve practically formed a kinship.

“Having a sibling like this (Sani) is extremely heartbreaking once you lose him. Because he died in front of my mother, me, and his entire family.

“The most agonizing thing is when you’re informed your brother is going to die in an hour and you stand there watching the machine shut down till it stops operating.” It was excruciating.”

Tinubu expressed his condolences to Dangote and advised the grieving to find comfort in God.

“We are here together to grieve our dear brother, not merely to commiserate or console you,” he stated. Sani isn’t just yours; he’s a Lagosian, a fantastic Nigerian, and a friend and brother to everyone here.

“I’m not a preacher, but I understand what it’s like to lose a close relative, especially a brother, unexpectedly.”

“We have come to join in prayers for you and the people of Kano state, for Nigeria, and for the entire family.” May God provide you with the strength to cope with your loss. Is a tragedy for all of us. Also, grant you what you did not donate to: a longer life, good health for you and your family, peace of mind, and the ability to accept the decree of God Almighty.

“He is the giver and the taker, and he has the power to do anything at any time.” We believe that with your faith and your tremendous capacity, you will overcome this and continue to accomplish good in his name, in your name, in the name of your family, and in the name of the entire people of the country.”

According to reports, Tinubu was greeted by a large gathering of APC loyalists and fans when he arrived in Kano.

Sani died last Sunday at a United States of America (USA) hospital after a cancer-related illness.

Last Tuesday, his body was taken to Kano and burial in the family cemetery.

Since then, Kano has welcomed high-profile politicians, businessmen, technocrats, and other powerful figures who have come to pay their respects to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, his family, and the people of Kano state.

Tinubu and his entourage arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) around 11:40 a.m. in a private plane.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, members of Ganduje’s cabinet, and APC leaders greeted him cordially at the airport.

A large crowd gathered at the airport, waving for Timubu’s huge convoy, a likely presidential candidate in 2023.

Tinubu traveled from the airport to the Koki areas of the city, where he condoled with Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a business entrepreneur and Dangote’s uncle.

The APC National Leader then proceeded to Aliko Dangote’s home on Dambazau Lane, off Lodge Road.

Tinubu, along by Governor Ganduje, paid visits to Government House and the Palace of Kano’s Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.

EPL: Pay Rudiger whatever he wants – Ferdinand tells Chelsea After 3-0 win against Leicester

Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United star, has advised Chelsea’s board to pay Antonio Rudiger everything he wants in order for the German defender to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Ferdinand made the request after another outstanding performance by the Germany international in Saturday’s 3-0 triumph against Leicester City.

With a wonderful header from Ben Chiwell’s corner kick, Rudiger put the visitors ahead, while N’Golo Kante and substitute Christian Pulisic also scored for the west London side.

Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to meet Rudiger’s demands, but Ferdinand said, “Well, I think they’ve got to compensate him so he feels like he’s getting paid what he feels he should be, which is at the upper echelons of the squad,” on BT Sport.

“I believe he sees himself as a part of the highest earners wherever they are.” If you were to look over this squad of players you wouldn’t want to lose for a few weeks or games, he’d be one of the first names on your list of players you’d want to keep.
