Police Commission informs Germany we will train our recruits locally

0

Recruits for the Nigerian Police Force will be trained locally, according to the Police Service Commissions (PSC).

Musiliu Smith, the chairman of the PSC and a former Inspector-General of Police, stated this during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the German government requested that the federal government release at least 30,000 police officers for special training in Germany on how to deal with protests without resorting to violence.

However, Smith asserted that Nigeria and Germany are two distinct societies.

According to him, it is critical for police officers to receive local training so that they can be screened when they are at the entry level of the force.

“We have to screen them,” he explained. You were aware that Germans were present. They met with the government and a number of relevant organizations, and the conversation is still ongoing.

“The government there is willing to support good security in our country, and we’re willing to encourage them, but the earliest or most basic set of personnel will continue to be trained here.”

“If they have facilities, we should gradually go see what they have and what curriculum they use because the two societies are different.”

“We want to make sure there are things we need to put into our systems to help us.”

UK, Israel place South Africa on red list over COVID-19 mutant variant

0

Concerns about a newly identified COVID-19 variant have prompted the United Kingdom and Israel to impose a temporary ban on flights from South Africa and five other African countries.

The travel restrictions in the UK will take effect on Friday to help control the spread of the new variant, according to Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

Mr. Javid stated that the new variant discovered in South Africa “may be more transmissible” than the Delta strain, and that “current vaccines may be less effective.”

On Sunday, the six countries will be added to the UK’s red list, requiring travelers to check into hotels for quarantine. Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, and South Africa are among them.

A virologist at Imperial College London discovered the variant. Scientists have expressed concern about the newly discovered B.1.1.529 mutant variant. The variant has the ability to overcome immunity acquired through vaccination or infection.

Though no cases of the new variant have been reported in the UK, officials are concerned about a rapid rise in cases in South Africa, where around 100 specimens have been confirmed as B.1.1.529. The same variant was discovered in Botswana and Hong Kong, where the patient was a South African traveller.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett ordered an immediate halt to all flights to and from South Africa and its neighboring countries after consulting with Israeli public health officials.

Regardless of vaccination status, anyone returning from these countries will be subjected to a seven-day mandatory quarantine at a state-run facility. Only after two negative PCR tests will they be released, and passengers who refuse to be tested will be held in quarantine for 14 days.

COAS orders troops to kill bandits and bring their bodies and weapons

0

Lt-Gen Farouk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has declared full-scale war on armed bandits, ordering soldiers to kill them and bring their bodies and weapons: “In dealing with the bandits, I have ordered the troops to be more resolute and deceitful.” I’ve urged them to keep going with their efforts.”

When he visited the 31st Artillery Brigade, he gave the charge.

Minna, Niger State: Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). He also dedicated the TRADOC Officers Transit Accommodation, the New Training and Doctrine Command Arms Store, and the Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association, Minna Military Cantonment chapter’s Nursery and Primary School.
“That is what we will continue to do,” he said, urging troops not to give up and to keep fighting the bandits in a deceptive manner. The Army will continue to motivate troops by providing them with the resources they need to provide security in the troubled states and throughout Nigeria.”

He said the visit would allow him to learn about their challenges and encourage them to do their best for the country’s benefit. He appealed to citizens for help in obtaining the funds.

With credible information, the Army and other security agencies will be able to deal with the criminals: “I implore everyone to lend a hand in getting accurate information to the Army and other security agencies.” Many of these criminals live among us. I want the general public to operate and understand that security is everyone’s responsibility. We’ll be able to improve what we’re doing with synergy.”

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NAF) is reviewing safety strategies for air operations.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will continue to review and evaluate key safety strategies affecting the service, according to Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, to ensure that “it remains a credible reference point for the maintenance of high safety standards.” He was speaking at the opening of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Safety Review Board (SRB) meeting for 2021, which just ended in Abuja.

The meeting allowed the service to assess and evaluate its safety practices and procedures in order to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Flight safety, according to Amao, should be ingrained in all NAF daily activities as a highly technical service that operates sophisticated aircraft, equipment, and military hardware. The meeting, he said, was centered on the steps taken by various NAF units to address safety issues raised by the standing NAF Safety Audit Committee, which was established earlier this year to chart a path forward in maintaining high safety standards in aircraft operations: “The meeting should serve as a veritable platform for addressing all safety concerns in order to proffer realistic and lasting solutions to flight safety issues.” The meeting’s overall goal should be to make the NAF a safer, more effective, and efficient instrument of national power.”

“The SRB, as the designated safety management body, is tasked with appropriating safety policies and guidelines for the entrenchment of safety culture in the NAF,” said Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Olusegun Philip, Chief of Standards and Evaluation (COSE). In the last six months, about 100 NAF personnel have attended various safety courses both inside and outside the country.

“Efforts are underway to collaborate with the US Air Force to organize an in-country safety management training for more NAF personnel before the end of the year,” says the statement.

He said that training activities at the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Safety, which had been suspended since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, would soon resume with new courses to broaden the scope of the NAF’s safety education. Through effective monitoring and evaluation, he urged members of the SRB to continue to support all safety activities across the entire NAF strata.

Former military heads of state praise the Nigerian Army in the face of insecurity

General Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria’s former military president, has expressed confidence in the Nigerian Army’s ability to address the country’s security challenges under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Faruk Yahaya.

He claimed that the COAS and his team were capable of quickly restoring peace and stability to the country. When the COAS paid him a visit at his Hill Top residence in Minna, Niger State, he revealed this.

“The NA has put up tremendous efforts to tackle the security challenges since the COAS assumed command,” he said, adding that the country was dealing with security threats in some parts of the country.

COAS “assumed command at a time when the nation is confronted with multifaceted security challenges,” according to former Head of State Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar. He was, however, pleased with the “COAS’ unwavering commitment to confronting the challenges head-on on all fronts.”

He praised him for involving key stakeholders in the never-ending search for public support and cooperation in order to effectively improve ongoing counter-insurgency operations. COAS has been praised by Abubakar for his “pragmatic leadership” in visiting military formations and theaters of operations to engage and motivate troops. He urged officers in the NA’s junior leadership to model themselves after the COAS’s exemplary leadership qualities.

Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello recently urged Nigerians and residents of the state to support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in ongoing anti-banditry, counter-insurgency, and counter-terrorism operations. When COAS paid him a courtesy visit, he made the call.

Without security, the governor claimed, there would be a lack of socioeconomic development. He urged all key stakeholders and well-intentioned Nigerians to support and work with the military and other security agencies in the fight against banditry and other security threats. He assured the COAS that his government would work with him to reduce insecurity.

“The visit to the two former Heads of State and the governor was not solely to pay homage, but to interface with them in an effort to squarely address security challenges,” the COAS said.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies will overcome the current security challenges with the right support and cooperation from key stakeholders and the citizenry.”

The theatre commander has given the youth of the barracks the task of being positive.

Major General Christopher Musa, the Theatre Commander (TC) of Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has urged barrack youths to remain positive, resolute, and contribute their fair share to the country’s overall development as future leaders.

He was speaking at the Lt-Col BU Umar Sport Complex, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State, where the inaugural edition of the Theatre Commander’s Ball Games dubbed “Barrack Youths Tournament 2021” was flagged off.

“It will also be used as an avenue to select good sports men and women to represent the barracks community in future sporting activities in the state, especially as peace is building up throughout the North East,” he said of the tournament.

“I want you to look at this as an opportunity to showcase yourself, play to protect yourself, and play fairly to showcase the talent you have,” he said to the crowd.

“We are anticipating a fantastic performance from all of you. We’re hoping to field a team from each of the events to represent the canton in future sporting events.”

“The tournament is to foster unity among the youth, build their self-esteem and social interactions, to make them responsible, disciplined, and develop their sense of confidence, as well as to discover their talents in various sports,” said Major Adebayo Oloruntoba, Acting Assistant Director, Physical Training, 7 Division.

“A total of 18 teams will compete in various sporting events such as football, volleyball, and basketball over the course of the five-day event, which will culminate on November 27 with the announcement of winners and the presentation of awards to deserving teams and officials.”

The army is preparing to combat post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Nigerian Army has held a seminar on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to address the rising number of PTSD cases among its officers and soldiers. The Army Headquarters, Department of Transformation and Innovation organized the event with the theme “Mental Health Awareness, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Perspective.”

Lt-Gen Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), said that engagements in various operations often result in PTSD.

Security agencies had to deploy troops in various operations to contain the situation, he said, due to the myriad of emerging security threats in the country.

COAS, who was represented by Major General Olufemi Akinjobi, Chief of Operations (Army), said their participation in those operations resulted in high casualty rates, injuries, equipment damage, accumulated stress, and other mental disorders such as PTSD. “This inaugural seminar is a step in the right direction to raise awareness about PTSD among troops,” he said. This aligns with my command’s philosophy of putting the Nigerian soldier first.

“It is hoped that raising awareness of disorder at the strategic level will aid in the formulation of the best strategy for managing the welfare and administration of affected troops.”

“The seminar’s second phase will focus on PTSD awareness and management campaigns for units and formations in various operational theaters.” This is based on our efforts to realize my vision of a professional Nigerian Army capable of carrying out assigned missions in a joint environment in the defense of Nigeria. As a result, I implore you all to make a concerted effort in this seminar to generate new creative ideas that will improve our field performance.” He praised officers and soldiers for their commitment and service in various theaters, promising to continue to provide the resources and guidance they need to succeed.

Major General Charles Ofoche, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, said the seminar was held to raise awareness about the rising incidences of Acute Stress Reaction, Acute Stress Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder among troops, as well as their effects on military operations:

“The Nigerian Army aimed to raise commander awareness of the stress syndrome in order to reduce operational risks, improve efficiency, and improve operational effectiveness.”

“Without a doubt, this forum will provide us with the necessary and necessary opportunity to freely interact, discuss, share ideas, and rub minds on issues relating to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, particularly in order to achieve the Seminar’s objectives.”

EPL: You can’t be Man United manager if you’re gasping at PSG – Nasri to Pochettino

0

Samir Nasri, a former Arsenal player, has cast doubt on Mauricio Pochettino’s ability to lead Manchester United.

As he tries to get the best of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe, Nasri expressed doubts about the Argentine’s motivations.

“At the moment, I don’t see a Pochettino style in Paris,” he told Sport Witness, “as there might have been in Tottenham or even Southampton, teams that he was able to make play in a beautiful way.”

“With PSG, he’s still grasping, he hasn’t found the right formula, he hasn’t decided which system to play in… I’m not sure why he hasn’t started using a three-man defense, for instance.

“I see a lot of things that are a little bit inconsistent,” she says. And it’s a little too easy to claim that it’s not his project in order to absolve oneself of responsibility in the event of failure.”

Pochettino is said to be interested in taking over at Manchester United from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but only time will tell if the Argentine is given the job.

However, PSG’s lackluster performance in the Champions League against Manchester City on Wednesday may have raised more questions than answers for the Red Devils as they seek to appoint the Argentine as their permanent manager.

In Ilorin, the Kwara government has sealed a residential building for practicing open defecation

0

The state government sealed a residential building in the Agba-Dam area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Thursday for practicing open defecation.

According to the DAILY POST, this is part of a crusade against open defecation, which the state government describes as a threat to environmental health.

After the concerned landlord failed to comply with the notices previously issued to him, Alhaji Sa’ad Ayinla Dan-Musa, General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, KWEPA, issued the order.

Addressing the tenants of the affected residential building, Deputy Director of Environment, Mrs Adetotun Oluwumi Taiwo, Head of KWEPA’s Waste and Sanitation Department, said, “The building is uninhabitable for the occupants because there are no toilet facilities in place, which is harmful to everyone’s health.”

“We are here because it is the state government’s responsibility to protect the health of the state’s citizens and residents,” the agency’s Press Secretary, Adejoke Adekunle, said in a statement.

The landlord of the affected residential building does not have the tenants’ best interests at heart, according to the statement, or he would have provided toilet facilities and a good soak-away system.

Officials advised tenants to look for standard toilet facilities in any houses they might want to rent before paying in the near future, because open defecation is still one of the most common ways for diseases to spread.

Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has paid N11.76 billion to 535, 815 depositors of closed banks

0

From 1989 to June 20, 2021, the Nigerian Depositors Insurance Corporation (NDIC) paid a total of N11.76 billion in insured sums to 535,815 depositors, as well as N101.666 billion in uninsured sums.

Mr. Bello Hassan, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, made the announcement at the Edo International Trade Fair in Benin City, Edo State.

Mr. Udofor Ukpom, the Corporation Senior Manager, Benin Zone, represented Hassan, who stated that the NDIC has been protecting depositors since its inception in 1989 as a statutory government agency with four broad mandates, by providing an orderly means of resolution and reimbursement in the event of bank failures.

Deposit Guarantee, bank supervision, distress resolution, and bank liquidation are the four mandates of the NDIC, according to him, with the primary public policy goal of contributing to financial system stability.

“From inception to date, NDIC has been living up to its mandate and public policy objectives of contributing to financial system stability, paying a total of N11.76 billion in insured sums to 535, 815 depositors of closed banks, while a total of N101.666 billion in uninsured sums was paid as of 30 June 2021,” he said. In addition, 1,955 creditors and shareholders of closed banks received a total of N6.159 billion in liquidation dividends.”

The corporation has declared full payment of insured and uninsured sums to depositors of 18 in-liquidation banks, which is instructive.”

This means that the Corporation has realized a liquidation dividend that will be paid to all bank depositors who show up for payment.

“Similarly, NDIC has continued to strive for a sound, safe, and stable financial system, which is critical for long-term economic growth, and has responded to financial system innovations by extending deposit insurance coverage to MFBS, PMBs, NIBs, and MMOs, as well as the recently licensed Payment service banks (PSBs) in order to engender confidence in the financial system.”

The NDIC boss urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid inadvertently disclosing their ATM and account information, as well as patronizing Ponzi schemes and illegal fund managers who pose as deposit taking institutions.

Earlier, Mrs Aina Omo-Ojo, Managing Director of the Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA), thanked NDIC for coming to the fair to educate the public on its operations and how to avoid losing their hard-earned money through banks.

Court sentenced a 36-year-old Nigerian to 87 months in prison for a $1.89 million fraud scheme

0

Jabin Godspower Okpako, 36, was sentenced to 87 months in prison by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann on November 23, 2021, for conspiring to launder approximately $1.89 million in mail and wire fraud proceeds, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

According to US Attorney John C. Gurganus, Jabin Okpako and his wife, Christine Bradley Okpako, 54, of Sayre, Pennsylvania, received approximately $1,898,046 million in proceeds from a mail and wire fraud scheme, laundered the funds through numerous bank and wire transactions in multiple states, and transferred the funds out of the US to three separate bank accounts in Nigeria.

The mail and wire fraud scheme aimed to defraud a number of female victims ranging in age from 55 to 85 across the United States.

Instagram, Facebook, Words with Friends, and What’s App were among the victims’ favourite online game, relationship, and dating sites.

The conspirators, who were based in the United States and West Africa, befriended the victims through text and instant messaging interactions and photo exchanges on the web sites.

After cultivating online relationships with the victims, the conspirators duped them into sending and transmitting funds for fictitious reasons and purposes, such as assisting an Alaskan worker who fell from a tower, purchasing an apartment in Washington, D.C., assisting the United Nations, repairing machinery and equipment on an oil drilling rig, paying for medicine, recovering a $6 million inheritance, and making a gold investment.

The unindicted conspirators instructed the victims to send checks and cash to Okpako and Bradley at their home in Sayre, Pennsylvania, after duping them into providing funds for these fictitious reasons.

Chief Judge Brann stated in sentencing Okpako that despite numerous banks closing their accounts due to the suspicious and irregular nature of the transactions, Okpako and his wife continued to transfer fraud proceeds to Nigeria.

Despite receiving a warning letter from the FBI about their activities, Okpako and his wife continued to conduct money laundering transfers, according to Chief Judge Brann.

Chief Judge Brann ordered Okpako to pay victims $440,950 in restitution and forfeit the proceeds of the criminal activity.

Christin Bradley Okpako pleaded guilty to conspiracy to launder money through mail and wire fraud on March 31, 2021, and is awaiting sentencing.

The FBI looked into the situation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney George J. Rocktashel.

EPL: With Man Utd, you can do more than with PSG, Michael tells Pochettino

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen claims that Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, can do more with the Red Devils squad than he can with his current squad.

This was said by Owen in response to reports linking Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino with a move to Manchester United.

Since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last weekend, Pochettino has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

The Argentine is widely regarded as a strong contender to succeed Solskjaer as permanent manager, but his PSG contract expires in June 2023.

“I think Poch [Mauricio Pochettino] can probably do more with the Manchester United team than he can with the PSG team,” Owen said on BT Sport.

“The PSG team chose itself, but can you shape them into a winning team?” I’m not certain. With Manchester United, I believe you can.”

“Poch is an intriguing character. Manchester United could have had him for free a few months ago, but now they will have to pay a fortune to get him out of PSG, and nothing at Manchester United has changed.”

Nigeria’s exports trade to hit $112bn by 2030 — tops volume for Africa

0

“It is working to streamline its trade procedures, reduce trade-related costs, and shorten border wait times.” To entice FDI, the government offers a variety of incentives, including unrestricted profit repatriation.”

According to the report, 13 markets are expected to drive the majority of global trade growth.

Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Mainland China, and Malaysia are among these markets. Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, the United Arab Emirate (UAE), and Vietnam are among the others.

The report, commissioned by Standard Chartered and prepared by PwC Singapore, is based on an analysis of historical trade data and projections through 2030, as well as insights from a survey of more than 500 global C-suite and senior executives.

Five key trends will reshape global trade, according to the report. Wider adoption of sustainable and fair-trade practices; a push for more inclusive participation; increased risk diversification; increased digitisation; and a rebalancing toward high-growth emerging markets are among them.

“The next decade of growth will be driven by globalisation. Despite the recent push toward onshoring, future growth corridors will be global, spanning Africa-East Asia, ASEAN-South Asia, East Asia-Europe, East Asia-Middle East, East Asia-Europe, and South Asia-US, according to the report.

“With 82 percent of respondents saying they are considering new production locations in these regions in the next five to ten years, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East will see an increase in investment flows, supporting the trend toward rebalancing to emerging markets and greater risk diversification of supply chains.”

Korede Adenowo, executive director, corporate commercial and institutional banking, Standard Chartered Nigeria, said the expected doubling of global trade shows that globalisation is still working despite recent disruptions.

“Along with the expansion of intra-regional trade routes, future corridors will still cut across continents,” he said.

“Against this backdrop, we will continue to work to make globalisation work for a wider range of markets and businesses, from micro to multinational, and to promote a more sustainable and inclusive global trade model.”

Concerns abound as APC prepares to hold its national convention in February of next year

0

The All Progressive Congress will hold its national convention in February 2022 at a yet-to-be-determined location. However, the planned convention could take place amid a raging crisis in some of the party’s state chapters.

Parallel congresses were observed in several states, resulting in a crisis in some states. Mala Mai Buni, the Governor of Yobe State and the APC’s Caretaker Chairman, has been accused of fueling the crisis in Zamfara State.

In this report, we examine the challenges that the ruling party faces as the election approaches in February.

Former Senator Kabir Marafa of Zamfara State said on Channels TV’s Politics Today two weeks ago that the Buni-led caretaker committee is a kangaroo committee that isn’t recognized by the law. Buni described Marafa as a “diminished politician” in his response.

Festus Keyamo had previously called for the disbandment of the committee following the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling on the Ondo State election.

“At this point, we can’t vouch for the legality of any NEC meeting called by Buni; the safest bet is to get two-thirds of the NEC members to sign an invitation to call a NEC meeting.”

During the crisis, the party had three times extended Buni’s committee’s stay.

The party is currently facing crises in the states of Ogun, Lagos, Kano, Abia, Zamfara, Cross River, and Kwara. Parallel congresses were held in some of these states.

This could have a significant impact on the convention’s outcome.

Buni’s emergence as a means of stabilizing the party after Oshiomhole’s departure

A battle erupted between Adams Oshiomhole and the governors in the final days of his presidency. In the run-up to the 2019 elections, the former governor of Edo State engaged in a running battle with Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari, all of whom wanted to anoint their successors.

Several governors were enraged by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s defection to the PDP following his treatment by the Oshiomole-led National Working Committee.

In 2018, we reported on how state governors were working against Oshiomhole.

Buni was appointed after the NWC led by Oshiomhole was disbanded. Analysts saw Oshiomole’s departure as a victory for the governors, who had wielded some power during the tenure of John Oyegun, the former chairman.

In an interview with APC member Henry Kelechukwu stated that the current crisis is about governors positioning themselves for 2023.

“Unlike in the PDP, where governors have absolute power, in the APC, the President is the de facto leader of the party.” There’s also a heavyweight like Bola Tinubu, who is rumored to be pursuing a presidential bid. As a result, the party’s situation is far more complicated.”

Insiders in the party believe that governors are attempting to secure their future by running again, appointing a successor, or even moving to the senate.

In Bauchi and Adamawa States, two incumbents were defeated in their re-election bids.

Three governors have replaced the umbrella with the broom since Buni’s reign. Governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, Ben Ayade of Cross River, and Bello Matawella of Zamfara, respectively.

The impact of the 2023 rotation on the convention

The issue of presidential rotation will be a hot topic at the convention. According to reports, the APC governors met on Sunday under the Progressive Governors Forum, which is led by Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, to discuss the convention and presidential rotation.

The meeting’s outcome was the convention’s February 2022 date, but nothing was said about the rotation.

As things stand, the majority of the likely candidates are from the north, implying that the Presidential candidate and the party’s Chairman might not be from the same side.

In the case of the President, however, no one has expressed a clear interest, but Tinubu’s supporters have been mobilizing in large numbers across the country. James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, has opened a campaign office for the former governor of Lagos State in Abuja.

Dayo Adeyeye, a former minister, is leading Mr Tinubu’s SWAGA campaign in the southwest.

There are also rumors that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo may run for President. Mr. Osinbajo, a Tinubu ally, had to distance himself from campaign posters that had recently flooded Abuja.

Agenda for the Southeast

The Southeast has been clamoring for President Obama to be micro-zoned to the region. Ken Nnamani, Rochas Okorocha, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Dave Umahi are among the politicians from the region expected to run for the position.

According to Mr Kelechukw, the politics of 2023 may have an impact on the convention. The only saving grace, he said, would be if the president did not remain aloof.

“In the case of a ruling party, the President plays a critical role in averting a crisis. In any crisis, any politician will respect the President’s mediation. All of these problems could be avoided if the president takes decisive action.”

The President, on the other hand, has a long history of refusing to intervene in times of crisis. Mr Buhari welcomed all aggrieved groups and even posed with all of the candidates during the 2019 elections.

He told the crowd at a campaign rally in Imo State to vote their conscience.

Probable outcome

The battle could come down to the governors’ chosen candidate. Although some governors, particularly those in the Southwest, are loyal to Mr Tinubu.

Governors, on the other hand, remain a formidable force across the country. Furthermore, unlike the PDP convention, where most of the positions were decided by consensus, the APC convention could see most of the positions contested, creating a competitive environment.
