Terrorists invaded Te’egbe hamlet in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State yesterday, killing 11 people, including children, and torching 30 homes.
Governor Simon Lalong quickly expressed his displeasure with the attack, calling it “another terrible occurrence” aimed at destabilizing the state.

The abductors of 66 members of the Baptist Church in Kakau Daji, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, eventually contacted the victims’ relatives after 27 days, demanding N99 million in ransom.

According to reports, the perpetrators stormed Te’egbe village early yesterday morning when the locals were still sleeping, killing 11 people and injuring several others, as well as setting fire to several homes.

While confirming the attack, Mr. Nuhu Bitrus, spokesman for the Miango Youth Development Association, stated, “Last night was really horrific for the Irigwe country as Fulani militia stormed Te’egbe village, killing so many people and injuring many more.” They also set fire to their homes.

“Right now, we’re counting the bodies of ten people who were shot and killed by the attackers.” They’re on their way to the morgue. More victims are still being sought by our people. We’ll let you know when the search and rescue mission is completed.”

“Just last week, we read on social media the threat chats sent by Fulani herders to the military stationed at Ancha, a neighboring community, asking them to allow free grazing in and around all communities in Irigwe land or face their wrath,” said Mr. Danjuma Auta, Secretary of Irigwe Development Association (IDA).

“Despite the military’s dismissal of the warning, the Fulani carried out their preparations on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, when they stormed Ancha village and killed two people.

“These same Fulani herders attacked the town of Ta’agbe yet again, and we have confirmed the deaths of 11 people so far, while the hunt continues.” We are concerned because we have met with the Fulani community on numerous occasions in various fora and committed to embrace peace, but with the ongoing attacks on our innocent citizens, we question if the peace deal entered is anything to hold to.

“Those charged with the constitutional responsibility of protecting us should come out publicly and warn Nigerians if they are overburdened and can no longer guarantee our safety.” Our people are losing faith in security agents because they were unable to stop, arrest, or neutralize the terrorists despite their presence.”

Lalong Weeps

Meanwhile, Lalong stated that the administration still finds the incident yesterday to be condemnable and unacceptable.

The governor described the attack as “another sad incident clearly the handiwork of criminals bent on instilling fear, pain, and sorrow among the people with a view to destabilizing the state and making fortune from their criminality, as well as rupturing the substantial peace attained” in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Macham Makut.

“The Governor totally condemns the attack and believes there is no reason that can explain it,” the statement said in part. As a result, he orders security services to take swift and decisive action to apprehend the culprits and guarantee that they are held accountable for their crimes.

“The recurrent attacks in this general area remain condemnable and unacceptable to Government,” the Governor was reported as saying. As a result, no resources or efforts will be spared in tracking down individuals who take pleasure in harming and killing innocent citizens, as well as ruining their homes and livelihoods.

“I want security forces to use all available resources to apprehend individuals who committed the crime, no matter how long it takes.” Failure to comply with this mandate will not be tolerated by the government.”

Lalong also ordered the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency and the Plateau Peace Building Agency to visit the region immediately and examine the extent of the damage in order to carry out prompt intervention and provide assistance to those who are in need as a result of the barbarous attack.

The kidnappers of 66 members of the Baptist Church in Kakau Daji, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have demanded a ransom of N99 million.

Rev. John Hayab, the Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and Abuja, revealed this to journalists in Kaduna yesterday.

27 days after the kidnapping, the abductors will make contact with the victims’ relatives for the first time.

The attendees were kidnapped on October 31, 2021, during a Sunday service when terrorists stormed the church.

Terrorists are claimed to have brought five of the victims close to the community and shot three of them dead, while two others were injured and taken to the hospital with bullet wounds.

The officers, she said, are from the Authority’s Aviation Security and Customer Service departments and have been suspended.

She claimed that their accomplice’s Nigeria Immigration Service On Duty Card had been revoked.

The measure, according to Yakubu, was taken to serve as a deterrent to other rotten eggs in the system who are focused on damaging the country’s image.

Three teachers of the Oyo State Basic School, Ogbomoso, have been suspended by the Oyo State Government for suspected sexual harassment.

Rahman Abdu-Raheem, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, made the announcement in Ibadan on Friday.

He didn’t say who the teachers were.

Mrs. Adebiyi Racheal, the Principal of Oyo State Training School for the Blind, and Mrs. Akanbi Oluwaseun, the Headteacher of Oyo State Basic School, Ogbomoso, have both been transferred.

The suspension and transfer, according to Abdu-Raheem, were the Oyo State Government’s response to a recent viral video of unrest at the school.

He claimed that taking early action will let a four-man investigating committee conduct free and impartial inquiries.

The commissioner stressed that the different letters sent to the suspended personnel went into action right away, in order to restore calm to the school.

The school was visited by the commissioner, his equivalent at the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Executive Adviser on Disability, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and Representatives of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board.

The purpose of the visit was to determine the source of the agitation as well as the unique needs of the students.

Abdu-Raheem cautioned school principals, head teachers, and other staff members to avoid any compromises that could damage the governor’s administration’s efforts.

He promised parents and other stakeholders of constant unannounced monitoring of all schools in the state, urged parents, students, and other key stakeholders to support and cooperate with the government, and assuring them of the state’s ongoing transformation of the education system.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by trial Justice Taiwo Taiwo, has determined that banditry and other similar organisations, by whatever names they go by, in whatever region of the country, are committing acts of terrorism and have been designated terrorists.

The federal government must also publish the order in the official Gazette and two national dailies in the country, according to Justice Taiwo.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, reacted to the verdict by saying that it will inspire the federal government to go all out to eradicate all types of banditry in the country.

The order labeling bandits terrorists came after the Director of Public Prosecution, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, filed an application on behalf of the federal government over the operations of Yan Bindiga, Yan Ta’adda, and other groups of bandits in the country.

The federal government had asked the court to declare the Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups, as well as other terrorist organisations in the country, illegal in the exparte application.

The request was made to checkmate the activities of the gang, which the government alleged was responsible for homicides, abductions, rapes, kidnappings, and other criminal acts in the North-east, North-central, and other parts of the country, according to a supporting affidavit.

“Banditry, incessant kidnappings for ransom, kidnapping for marriage, mass abductions of school children and other citizens, cattle rustling, enslavement, imprisonment, severe deprivation of physical liberty, torture, rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, and other forms of sexual violence, attacks and killings in communities and commuters, and wanton destruction of lives and proper property,” according to the federal government.

It went on to allege that the Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda organizations, as well as others, were to blame for the murders of troops, police officers, and other security officials around the country.

The federal government claims that the groups’ activities have hampered commercial, educational, and farming activity in the North West and North Central.

“The operations of the Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups, as well as other similar groups,” the FG argued in a supporting affidavit, “constitute acts of terrorism that can lead to a breakdown of public order and safety, as well as a threat to Nigeria’s national security and corporate survival.”

According to the DPP, President Muhammadu Buhari has given his support for his action, which has the goal of outlawing the Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups, as well as other terrorist organisations in the country.

The Rule of Law.

The court proclaimed the operations of the “Yan Bindiga Group” and the “Yan Ta’adda Group,” as well as other similar groups, to be “acts of terrorism and illegality” in any region of the country, notably in the North-west and North-central geopolitical zones.

“Similar groups, whether in groups or as individuals by whatever names they are called, in any area of Nigeria, notably in the North-west and North-central geopolitical zones,” the judge declared, are terrorists and must be prohibited.

In light of the nefarious activities of bandits and their consequences on the people and the economy of the country, Justice Taiwo believes that such directives are necessary.

He expanded the proscription order to include all other groups in the country, regardless of name, whose activities and intentions are identical to the Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groupings.

Terrorist activities, according to the ruling, “include, but are not limited to, banditry, kidnappings for ransom, kidnappings for marriage, mass abductions of school children and other citizens, cattle rustling, enslavement, imprisonment, severe deprivation of physical liberty, torture, rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, other forms of sexual violence, attacks and killings in communities and commuters, and wanton destruction of lives

The federal government must also publish the prosecution order in the official Gazette and two national dailies in the country, according to the judge.

FG Applauds the Decision.

The federal government has praised Justice Taiwo’s announcement and stated that it will proceed to publish the proscription order in accordance with the court’s decision.

In response to the verdict, Malami stated that the federal government would now be emboldened to go all out to eradicate all types of banditry in the country.

“This administration’s determination to conduct things in accordance with the rule of law,” Malami said of the proclamation.

“This development is a clue to the federal government’s resolve to adhere to international standards in honoring the rules of engagement in the country’s battle against terrorism, separatist organizations, insurgency, and banditry,” he says.

He stated that by issuing this announcement, Nigeria’s Federal Government has taken a courageous step toward dealing mercilessly with all terrorist groups and their backers in order to find a long-term solution to the country’s numerous security concerns.

“The Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, in coordination with appropriate government agencies, including security operatives, are working tirelessly to ensure that this pronouncement is fully utilized.

“The government will publish the proscription decree in the gazette,” Malami stated.

The Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, Mines, Steel Development, and Metallurgy is concerned that the Ajaokuta Steel Company has been “left in deep slumber” for several years.

Umar Tanko Al-Makura (APC, Nasarawa), the committee’s Chairman, told reporters yesterday that Ajaokuta would remain dormant without special funding for the solid mineral sector.

After submitting his panel’s report on the 2022 budget to the Appropriations Committee, the lawmaker spoke at the National Assembly in Abuja.

He said the revamping of the project, which is seen as a major driver of the country’s industrialisation, had been stalled due to a lack of funds and certain bureaucratic bottlenecks.

He claimed that since the initiative to reactivate Ajaokuta Steel Company was put forward two years ago, the firm has received no meaningful budgetary allocation.

As a result, he called for a special fund for the sector and urged the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to devote all of its energy and focus to the Ajaokuta project.

“We discovered that the much-desired growth in this sector might not be easy to achieve without very special allocation to this ministry,” Al-Makura said.

“The president sees solid minerals as one of the industries that will drive the diversification process. However, given the ministry’s meager budget, such wishes may be difficult to fulfill.

“I implore the committee to consider ways and means of securing special funding for this ministry; otherwise, the things the ministry is expected to achieve may not be realized, especially when we consider the country’s concern and passion for one of the ministry’s sectors, Ajaokuta Steel Company.”

Once in power, the new government will face a new surge in the coronavirus pandemic, with daily infections reaching new highs and hospitals being overburdened.

Insecurity: Nigerian telecom masts should be equipped with cameras – Gen Usman

Sani Usman, a retired Brig. Gen., advised federal authorities on Thursday to install cameras on telecommunication masts to combat insecurity.

The cameras, according to the former Army Director of Public Relations, can be used to monitor bandits and terrorists.

Usman made the suggestion at the Nigerian Institution of Space Engineers (NISE) 11th National Conference and Annual General Meeting in Abuja.

“The federal government should think about installing cameras on telecommunication masts in kidnapping and banditry hotspots,” he said.

Usman also called for science- and technology-based security policies and strategies.

While the government combats banditry and kidnapping, preventative measures must be devised, according to the retired General.

According to him, the deployment of information and communication technology facilities would aid intelligence and operations.

“The NISE should work more closely with security agencies to expand space technology to address Nigeria’s challenges,” he said.

Super Eagles’ path to the World Cup finals will be decided Today in Cairo

Eagles and the nine other qualified countries for the 2022 World Cup final playoffs will focus their attention on Cairo, Egypt’s capital city, today to learn the format for this stage of the competition.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is holding its 13th Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt today, and one of the topics on the agenda is the date of the draw for the final African round of the Mundial in Qatar, as well as the format of the playoffs.

The playoffs for the top ten finishers in each group were originally scheduled for March 2022 on the international match calendar.

However, following FIFA’s decision to change the intercontinental playoff between European and South American teams to a single match in one venue due to scheduling conflicts on both continents and the long distances involved, speculations were rife that CAF would follow suit and hold the playoff as a single match day in Qatar next year.

Teams from West and Central Africa are expected to reject the proposal because it will benefit only four North African countries.

Because they are Arabs, they will feel more at ease playing against non-Arab teams, which could lead to four of the five African teams emerging from North Africa.

Only Egypt, as one of the top five seeded teams, has a chance to play a North African team. Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria, as well as Senegal and Nigeria, have already been seeded.
