Sixteen young men, all between the ages of 40 and 15, were paraded in front of media at the Katsina Police Command on Monday for allegedly vandalizing government property around the ongoing underpass (flyover) construction in Katsina State Capital.

On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP. Sanusi Buba, the Superintendent of Police, SP. Isah Gambo, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, paraded the 16 suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday.

Cable wires, shovels, and diggers are among the goods recovered from them.

However, when probed, many of them rejected the charge, claiming that they were only passing by when they were stopped.

“When I was detained, I was on my way to buy “suya meat” in the area. One of them stated, “I did not tamper with any of the goods as claimed.”

The following are among the 16 suspects currently being sought by the Katsina Police Department:

I am 40 years old. Aliyu Danlami is a 22-year-old woman. Abubakar Lawal, 21, and Abubakar Dahiru, 20, are both 21 years old. Buhari Lawal is a 20-year-old Nigerian politician. 19-year-old Aminu Tasi’u 16-year-old Abba Lawal Mohammed Lawal is a 20-year-old man. Salisu Ibrahim is a 21-year-old woman. 18-year-old Abubakar Bashar 18-year-old Sulaiman Isah 21-year-old Awwal Abubakar 15-year-old Bilyaminu Ibrahim Haruna Saleh, Abdullahi Lawal, 20 years old, and Da’ud Isah.

“Based on solid intelligence, the command succeeded in arresting sixteen (16) alleged vandals of Government property in Katsina Metropolis,” SP. Isah remarked as he paraded the suspects.

“Suspects were apprehended vandalizing government installations in the Kofar Kaura region, at the newly approved site for the construction of the underpass, which will cost millions of naira.”

“They were found with two (2) shovels, one (1) digger, and a large quantity of cable cables after a quick search. The investigation is still going on.”

Following the recent premiere of NYSC movie in Abuja during the weekend, the Nigerian Diaspora Network has commended the director general of National Youth Service Corps ,Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim PhD, for his foresight and sacrifice in driving reforms that reaffirms the undisputable need for a one united Nigeria.

The group in a statement released to journalists and signed by it’s United Kigdom coordinator, Tunde Disu on Tuesday maintained that NYSC since inception has provided the platform that has held Nigeria together up to this day.

“For those of us in diaspora, the songs of disunity often sang in some sections of the country made things appear gloomy for Nigeria , but the premiere of the NYSC movie has yet again reawakened the spirit and essence of national unity and cohesion among our citizens, it is an important tool neccesary to restore Nigeria once more on the trajectory of unity”

The group said the NYSC under Brig Gen Shuaibu has expanded the vision of the directorate on multiple fronts f. “this is demonstrated through massive reforms hinged on skills acquisition for corps members and an unwavering spirit to national service ”

“The recent commissioning of a state of the art skills acquisition center in the south west part of the country is an attestation to the fact that, if supported, the NYSC remains the backbone of the nations stability. ” It is when the youth understand peace and unity that this country will be stable , it is also when they are gainfully employed that unity can be guaranteed, the NYSC is facilitating on both fronts to live to its founding vision ” Mr Disu maintained.

“Indeed, we in the diaspora can now fully understand the very urgent need for an NYSC “trust fund” to consolidate on the vision of NYSC under Brig Gen Shuaibu.

The group further appealed to the NYSC management to consider premiering the NYSC movie in London which platform is connected Nigerians in diaspora so as to spread the message and essence of unity”

” At this point, nothing underscores the need for continued support of NYSC”

The group commended the harmonious working relations between the supervising minister of sport Sunday Dare and the directorate which it said provided an enabling environment for such great transformation under Brig Gen Ibrahim Shuaibu.

“Our maximum support to the scheme is guaranteed , we look forward to a town hall meeting with the directorate to fashion ways of gannering diaspora support for the proposed NYSC ‘Trust Fund ” when finally passed into law.

Former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim and former Chief of Army Staff, His Execelleny, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd) are among distinguished Nigerians nominated for awards by London-based group, TheNigerian News.

Senator Anyim, also a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, will be conferred with an award of excellence as “Grand Icon of Democracy”.

Ambassador Buratai, meanwhile, will be recognised as the “Grand Icon of Patriotism in Africa”.

The award ceremony, scheduled for NAF Conference Centre Abuja, on December 16th, is part of activities to mark the company’s fifth anniversary.

According to a press statement signed by Ms Bridget Agada, secretary of the award planning committee, Senator Anyim epitomises the average hardworking Nigerian who believes in the country’s peace, unity and progress.

She said the former Senate President is a symbol of democracy who is highly revered in the mould of other great Patriots like Sir Ahmadu Bello of blessed memory, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Agada further revealed that Ambassador Buratai is celebrated for his “patriotic devotion to duty which continued to manifest through the timely defeat of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria”.

She added that his fearless fight against “terrorism across the African continent, initiating and domesticating numerous reforms and innovations have placed the Nigerian Army as one of the most powerful forces in Africa”.

The event will be chaired by the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator (Dr) George Akume while His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero is the Royal Father of the Day.

Ten other distinguished Nigerians will be recognised on that day including His Excellencies, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State as well as the MD/CEO of FunmiAyinke Nigeria Limited, Engr Funmi Ayinke.
