In 2022, El-Rufai plans to spend N6 billion on Kaduna general hospitals

In 2022, Governor Nasir El-government Rufai’s has set aside N6 billion to upgrade and equip general hospitals throughout Kaduna.

This is contained in Mr El-N278.6 Rufai’s billion budget for 2022, which he signed into law on December 22.

According to the document, the health ministry will receive N15.7 billion in capital expenditure, with N7.4 billion going toward the ongoing construction and equipping of the 300-bed specialist hospital.

It also revealed that N282.9 million had been set aside for the construction of isolation centres, consumables procurement, COVID-19 intervention, and other public health emergency programs.

General Hospital Kafanchan, Saminaka, Birnin Gwari, and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital Zaria received N51.6 million from the Kaduna government to build and renovate the standard accident and emergency unit.

Pambegua received N281.7 million for the construction of a new college of nursing and midwifery. N17.4 million was earmarked for 20 blood bank refrigerators for blood transfusion services in 20 secondary health facilities, according to the document.

The document also revealed that N370 million was set aside for the construction of a trauma center in Doka, as well as N28.9 million for medical equipment upkeep at the 31 secondary health facilities.

It also revealed that N861.7 million was set aside as a counterpart for a malaria program to strengthen systems for malaria prevention, quality assurance, and quality control.

Similarly, N62.6 million will be spent on drug-resistant tuberculosis, N188 million on the Kaduna Emergency Nutrition Action Plan, and N50 million on the World Bank-backed Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria program.

A counterpart fund of N50 million was also set aside for the Neglected Tropical Disease Control Programme.

The N15.7 billion set aside for capital expenditure was higher than the N9.1 billion set aside for the ministry in 2021, and the health sector received N40.9 billion, or 14.7% of the N278.6 budget, with N28.6 billion set aside for capital expenditure and N12.3 billion set aside for recurrent expenditure.

According to the document, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital will receive N4.3 billion, with N1.7 billion set aside for capital expenditure and N2.6 billion set aside for recurrent expenses.

Additionally, N90.3 million was set aside for Kaduna’s Contributory Health Management Authority, and N840 million was set aside as a 1% consolidated revenue fund for free healthcare for vulnerable groups under the state health insurance scheme.

In 2022, the state government has set aside N661.3 million for the College of Nursing and Midwifery, N269.4 million for capital projects, and N391.9 million for recurrent expenditures.

APC faction in Zamfara condemns the invasion of PDP congress

The All Progressives Congress’s Kabiru Marafa faction has condemned the attack on the Peoples Democratic Party congress in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Monday.

The party also denied involvement in the incident that resulted in the destruction of several vehicles and voting materials.

This was stated in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bello Maradun, the state spokesperson for the Marafa-led APC, titled “Marafa’s APC faction condemns attack on PDP in Gusau, Zamfara.”

“We are more concerned that official statements attributed to the spokesperson for Zamfara State’s Deputy Governor, who is one of the state’s leading PDP figures, linked the action to the ruling APC.”

Despite an earlier statement accusing thugs allegedly mobilized by the APC’s Governor Bello Matawalle’s camp, the Marafa faction distanced itself from “this undemocratic act against opposition groups,” according to Maradun. From the testimonies of his uncountable public engagements as a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria and the leading figure of the APC in Zamfara State, it is on record that Kabiru Marafa is an advocate of the rule of law and the principle of ‘live and let others live.’ On this note, the Marafa faction of the APC strongly condemns the reported action against the opposition PDP in the state, describing it as “barbaric, savage, desperate, and primitive.”

The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement warning preachers not to spread fear and panic with their doomsday predictions as the new year approaches.

Over the years, some preachers in the country have made prophetic pronouncements that have included death threats, controversial political predictions, and other issues that have raised national security concerns, particularly during their December 31st watch night services; this is a trend that the new police administration hopes to reverse.

“As the year 2021 draws to a close, the Ghana Police Service wishes to draw the attention of Ghanaians, especially religious groups, to the fact that while we have the right to religion, freedom of worship, and free speech, all of these rights are subject to the respect for the rights and freedoms of others according to our laws,” the service said in a statement signed by Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeing, Director of Public Affairs.

“Over the years, some religious leaders’ communication of prophecies of harm, danger, and death have created tension and panic in Ghanaian society, putting the lives of many people in fear and danger,” the statement continued.

“As a result, we would like to caution all Ghanaians, particularly religious groups and leaders, to be cautious in their statements, particularly in how they communicate prophecies, which may harm others’ rights and the public interest.” The Ghana Police Service wishes to state unequivocally that it is not opposed to prophecies. “We acknowledge that Ghanaians are a religious people who understand and believe in the centrality of God in our lives,” the service added.

People who publish or promote such content from the preachers may be arrested, according to the security service. “We would like to remind you that it is illegal in Ghana to publish or reproduce a statement, rumour, or report that is likely to cause fear and alarm among the public, or to disturb public peace if the person has no evidence to prove that the statement, rumour, or report is true,” says the statement. “A person found guilty under these laws could face a term of imprisonment of up to five years,” the statement said.

Karen: Protesters demand justice for a raped student and seek for arrests

Karen Akpagher, a student at the Premier Academy in Lugbe, Abuja, died after she was allegedly raped, and members of the Movement for Justice for Karen have protested the alleged delay in justice for her.

After a condom was discovered in her private parts, the 14-year-old student was said to have died of an infection.

Mrs Vihimga Akpagher, the SS1 student’s mother, allegedly sexually abused her before withdrawing her from school on June 19, 2021, for treatment.

Premier Academy, on the other hand, stated that the abuse occurred after she had left the school grounds.

Karen died in a hospital in Abuja’s Wuse 2 neighborhood two days later.

Ikem Anthony, an activist, accused the police and the school of not being proactive during a protest on Tuesday at the Place in Magboro, Ogun State.

“Late Karen was a student of Premier Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, and died in June 2021, and we have not heard anything since then,” he said. There was no arrest, no nothing.

“As a result, we are dissatisfied with the development and the role of the media.” They have remained silent because many people are affected by these unfortunate circumstances. We have resolved not to let Karen’s case go to waste. She was raped, according to the police. “We are pleading with the police to do the right thing and not be biased in their investigation of the case,” they said. We want them to find the criminals and bring them to justice.”

Another group member, lawyer John Olobayo, questioned why no arrests had been made in the case.

Ani Ikoneto, a 60-year-old herbalist from Calabar, died from injuries sustained when his dog bit off and ate his private parts during the holiday season.

According to neighbors, the herbalist who lived on Jebbs Street in Calabar South went on a drinking binge on Christmas Eve and returned home drunk.

“We had gone to bed when he returned, but some people were still outside.” He went into his room and slept without closing the door, excreting on himself due to too much alcohol.

“His outside dog smelt the poo and went inside to eat it; in the process, the dog ate his private parts thinking it was meat or part of the excreta,” one of his neighbors, Itoro, told Vanguard.

The herbalist, he claims, raised the alarm, causing neighbors to rush into his apartment and discover what had happened.
“We thought hoodlums had attacked him when we heard him scream. “However, when we arrived, we discovered that his private parts were missing, and his dog had blood on its mouth,” the neighbor explained.

Itoro explained that due to the excreta that covered Ikoneto’s body, he couldn’t be rushed to the hospital and had to be cleaned up first.

“By the time we finished cleaning him of the shit,” she continued, “he was bleeding so badly that he died on the way to the hospital.”

He did say, however, that the election will take place next year because more than 70% of the necessary infrastructure is already in place.
