Ex‑Governor Ladoja Set to Be Crowned Olubadan of Ibadan Land

0

After the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Senator Rashidi Ladoje, a former governor of Oyo State, is anticipated to become the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
As previously mentioned, Oba Olakulehin died on Monday, July 7, at the age of 90, approximately a year after taking the throne.

According to the rotating succession system, which switches the Olubadan stool between the two governing lines—Balogun (military) and Egbe Agba (civil)—a new Olubadan is anticipated to surface in the days after his passing.

The next king is anticipated to come from the Egbe Agba line, where Ladoja is the most senior High Chief at the moment, as the late Olakulehin ascended from the Balogun line.

Recall that Ladoja, who is 80 years old, was crowned the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland in August 2024, making him the next in line for the throne.

“There was no problem with taking the role of king in the Olubadan lineage,” Ladoja said after he was given his beaded crown and given the title of Oba. He emphasized that all of the other Obas were subjects and advisors, and that the Olubadan of Ibadanland was still the only paramount king in the old city.

He also stated that he would be willing to take the throne if the chance arose.

The previous events were caused by misunderstandings because we were enquiring as kings, “Where is our domain?”

Since the declaration states that Otun, Osi, Asipa, and Ekeerin, as well as all of us in the Olubadan line, can become king, they have responded by saying that we were kings in the Olubadan line.

The location of our domain, which I have been inquiring about, has been addressed. The Olubadan can only be those who are God’s chosen ones. There have been people who became Otun and Balogun but ultimately did not become Olubadan.

Since Oba Olakulehin can send us anywhere he pleases as our king, we have now assumed the roles of counsel and servant to him. According to Ladoja, Oba Olakulehin is the only monarch in Ibadanland.

2027 Elections: Obi Reaches Out to North for Political Backing

By promising to rid their area of the insecurity scourge, presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged Northerners to back his goal of deposing Bola Tinubu in 2027 and taking his place.

“The North will rejoice if I win the presidency. I want their faith. In an interview broadcast on Channels TV on Sunday evening, Mr. Obi stated, “The North is this country’s greatest asset.” “The uncultivated land is a resource. I’ll take care of the crime that exists in the North today. I know what’s wrong. They can rely on me

“We have been voting for religion and tribe,” he continued. This time, let us vote for competence.

The former governor of Anambra bemoaned the escalation of insecurity during Mr. Tinubu’s rule.

“A number of children in Ibadan passed away on December 18 or around that date. Nigeria’s president took a plane from Abuja to Lagos on the 19th. He has no empathy. “He wasn’t in Benue for days,” Mr. Obi, who ran against Mr. Tinubu in the 2023 presidential race, claimed. He didn’t go to the location of the incident. We lost more than 200 individuals in Niger State, yet he hasn’t visited. If the populace is dying, the president ought to be prepared to pass away.

The member from the Labour Party said that Mr. Tinubu prioritized roads over the lives of unfortunate Nigerians.

Why are highways being put into service when children are dying? Are roads more significant than kids who aren’t in school? Mr. Obi said, “He has no compassion.”

If elected president of Nigeria in 2027, he promised to behave differently.

I’m not going to do that. I’ll go find their parents. I’ll be staying with the people in Mokwa. People want to wake up to a president who is compassionate and cares about them,” the politician stated.

In the face of the nation’s alarming lack of access to healthcare and other essential social amenities, Mr. Obi criticized Mr. Tinubu for purchasing a presidential jet.

The senator urged the EU to pay “special attention” to the North-East and North-West geopolitical regions that have been devastated by “criminality and hardship” in April.

In spite of his well-publicized worries about the North, some people in the area have vowed that “if he stands for election 1000 times, we won’t vote for him 1000 times.”

Senate Urged to Uphold Akpoti’s Mandate by 1,000 Women Organisations

Over 1,000 women’s civil society organizations have joined forces to form the Coalition of Concerned Women for Legislative Integrity (CCWLI), which has called on the Nigerian Senate to promptly appeal the Federal High Court’s decision to reinstate Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The coalition characterized Friday’s ruling as “deeply troubling” and “a potential threat to the sanctity of parliamentary discipline and democratic integrity” in a statement released in Abuja on Monday.

The national president of the coalition, Barr Nana Amina Abdullahi, urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Red Chamber leadership to uphold the legislature’s independence and “not let populist sentiment or outside pressure take precedence over the responsibility of enforcing accountability within the chamber.”

According to Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month Senate suspension was disproportionate and illegitimate. Declaring that the Senate lacked the authority to impose such a lengthy suspension that would essentially silence a constituency, she ordered the senator from Kogi Central to return immediately.

The women’s organization, however, issued a warning that the ruling would “open the floodgates of indiscipline, misinformation, and abuse of legislative privilege” in Nigeria’s parliament if it is not contested.

The organization stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension followed her complete disrespect for the red chamber’s leadership and senate regulations.

“We are female. We’re moms… However, we must not ignore irresponsibility masquerading as bravery. When a woman is elected to the prestigious chamber, she must honor that position and refrain from using it to pick fights or disparage her state without doing her research, Abdullahi stated.

The coalition defended the Senate’s disciplinary authority and called the six-month suspension “a proportionate response to the gravity of Natasha’s conduct.”

Judge Nyako’s claim that the suspension violated the rights of Kogi Central inhabitants was also denied by the group.

The representative of Kogi Central was suspended, not the locals. Additionally, people are entitled to better than a lawmaker whose actions frequently turn into provocation rather than policy, the statement said.

Abdullahi claimed that certain global organizations and regional activists were “weaponizing feminism” in order to justify inappropriate behavior and subvert established norms.

“Ignorance is not a sign of feminism.” Encouraging the misuse of parliamentary immunity is not empowering women. The punishment would have been uncontested if a male senator had made such claims without supporting documentation. “This selective outrage is dangerous and hypocritical,” she said.

While acknowledging the court’s role in resolving conflicts, the coalition maintained that judicial restraint was necessary when it came to internal legislative discipline.

They called on the Senate to challenge the ruling all the way to the Supreme Court, arguing that clarity on the boundaries of judicial involvement in legislative procedures is essential to the long-term viability of Nigeria’s democracy.

“To back down now would be to cede the Senate’s constitutional power to punish its members. We are urging the Senate to promptly launch an appeal, not only to defend the Natasha case but also to uphold its institutional honor.

Additionally, the group criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan for what it called “a pattern of political exhibitionism,” claiming that she uses every disciplinary matter as a platform for gendered media spectacles.

Provocation and confrontation have been the cornerstones of Natasha’s political career. Though it could receive praise on social media, Abdullahi asserted that governance is not a type of performance art.

The coalition called the court’s N5 million fine for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s breach of its previous gag order a “mild but symbolic rebuke” and asked the senator to exercise more self-control in her public behavior.

We hope she pays the fine discreetly and takes some time to think. “Democracy is not a theater for perpetual drama,” the group declared.

The coalition announced that it will be formally requesting a prompt action to file an appeal in a letter to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, copying all presiding officers.

“Our stance is unwavering: the Senate must uphold its ruling unless a higher court declares otherwise. “That verdict shouldn’t be the final word,” Abdullahi said.

Citizens Alliance Slams Malami: Impunity Legacy Remains Despite ADC Defection

0

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) has been criticized by the Citizens Alliance for Rule of Law and Justice (CARoLJ), a civic watchdog group, for his recent criticism of the Bola Tinubu administration. The group describes Malami’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as an act of “political desperation dressed in borrowed morality.”
The CARoLJ said in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday and signed by Dr. Hamzat Tunde Ayoola, the group’s president, that Malami’s accusations that the current government is ignoring security and causing poverty in Nigeria are not only ironic but also gravely offensive to the intelligence of Nigerians who experienced his time of constitutional vandalism and legal impunity.
One of the darkest eras in Nigerian legal history was ruled over by Abubakar Malami. Hearing him talk about justice, equity, and national regeneration now is like listening to a man trying to hide a history of blatant abuse of state authority, shielding of corrupt political elites, and disregard for court decisions, Dr. Ayoola added.

Malami, who was the Justice Minister from 2015 to 2023, declared his official defection to the ADC on Wednesday, saying the party provides a coalition to “rescue Nigeria from collapse.” He denounced the economic hardship and insecurity, especially in northern Nigeria, and charged that the APC-led government was putting publicity ahead of governance.
Citing a lengthy history of policy failures, compromised prosecutions, and judicial sabotage throughout his tenure in office, CARoLJ stated Malami’s newfound sympathy for the suffering of the country was “both cynical and dishonest.”
Under Malami, the Federal Ministry of Justice turned into a weapon against the weak and a political shelter for the dishonest. He claimed, “He continuously disregarded legitimate court decisions, obstructed historic anti-corruption trials, and oversaw a legal system that progressively favored the wealthy at the expense of the populace.”
The organization listed a number of instances in which Malami allegedly permitted impunity, including the contentious 2017 restoration of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team. Maina was smuggled back into the civil service while on trial for huge pension theft, allegedly with Malami’s approval and knowledge.
Malami owes Nigerians an explanation for the promotion and reinstatement of a wanted criminal who was accused of corruption. He stated that the scandal alone should bar him from holding any public office in the future.
The organization also criticized Malami’s involvement in the contentious presidential pardon of two former governors who had been imprisoned for embezzlement of public funds: Jolly Nyame of Taraba State and Joshua Dariye of Plateau State. President Muhammadu Buhari issued the pardon in 2022, and civil society organizations strongly denounced it. Malami’s ministry handled the process.
Malami assisted in getting pardon for those found guilty of stealing billions of dollars, while honorable Nigerians were imprisoned for small-time theft. He can no longer act as a champion for the underprivileged.
Malami was also accused by CARoLJ of undermining Nigeria’s anti-corruption initiatives by giving rash legal advice, dropping cases too soon, and persistently interfering with the work of organizations like the EFCC and ICPC.

The civic organization went on to list a number of significant corruption cases that were either mysteriously dropped or handled poorly under Malami’s direction. These cases included the well-known case of Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Petroleum Minister, and the contentious handling of oil contracts involving foreign interests, which resulted in settlements and court losses that cost Nigeria billions of dollars.
“Under Malami’s leadership, a number of historic corruption cases fell apart—not for lack of evidence, but rather due to tainted prosecution and political meddling.” Malami oversaw the government’s numerous overseas legal failures, including the P&ID arbitration case. This nation suffered greatly as a result of his shoddy legal strategy and politicization of private documents. “Let’s not overlook Diezani’s case,” Ayoola stated.
The group cautioned voters not to fall for what it dubbed Malami’s “reinvention strategy,” characterizing his defection to the ADC as “a soft launch of his long-suspected ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.”
“” Abubakar Malami’s decision to desert to the ADC is a planned attempt at rebranding by a guy who is trying to distance himself from the shadow of his own legacy, not a patriotic gesture. Nigerians must not be misled. You cannot claim to be the face of national rescue after engaging in years of constitutional sabotage, disobeying court rulings, and shielding looters. Ayoola declared, “Malami is joining the ADC to save himself, not to save Nigeria.”
In response to Malami’s demand that Nigerians use the ADC to “reclaim the nation,” CARoLJ criticized it as being disingenuous.
“Malami is claiming to be saving Nigeria, which he assisted in bleeding for almost ten years. He now talks about banditry and suffering in the North, but he remained mute as Buhari destroyed communities in Zamfara, Kebbi, and Borno because he was too focused on political consolidation, according to Ayoola.
To the people of Kebbi: During the years of banditry, Malami heard your pleas, and his only answer was to remain silent. He can no longer claim to be your liberator. The continuous attempt by humiliated political actors to hide behind new parties and outdated slogans must be resisted by Nigerians. Accountability, not defection, is where real reform starts.

Mop-Up Exam Results Out as JAMB Targets Exam Cheats with New Measures

The results of the mop-up exam, which was taken on Saturday, June 28, 2025, have been made public by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The outcomes of 11,161 of the 96,838 candidates who were slated to participate in the mop-up exercise have been made public.

The JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, noted that “Candidates who are unable to view their results have been found to have not fully complied with the instruction to send “UTMERESULT” (as one word text) to 55019/66019 from the same phone number (SIM) with which they registered for the UTME.”

The Board updated the public on a syndicate of phony admission letters, recalling that a thorough investigation was initiated after a joint press conference between the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the PPRO of the Nigeria Police Force was held on April 13, 2024.

The Board disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) helped the police capture the five scammers who admitted to creating the phony admissions letters. They are now being tried at the Federal High Court in Abuja in the case of Inspector General of Police vs. Effa Leonard and four (4) other defendants.

17,417 individuals in all were identified as beneficiaries after the syndicate’s admission.
In all, 6,903 applicants who were asked to correct minor inconsistencies were cleared between 2024 and May 2025, when the Board presented an update to the Federal Ministry of Education. The remaining 10,514 candidates were referred to the closest designated police investigation offices. Out of 10,514 candidates, 5,669 were found to have directly obtained forged letters, while 4,832 candidates, whose admission was later withheld from JAMB and who were being processed for condonement by their confessing institutions under a ministerial waiver from 2017 to 2020, impatiently enlisted the syndicate to circumvent the procedure.

The Board issued a warning that any candidate who disobeyed established procedures for registration, examination, or admission or who hired or solicited assistance from exam and certificate fraudsters would continue to face consequences, including prosecution under the Examination Malpractices Act, which stipulates suitable punishment even for minors and their responsible parents, guardians, or mentors.

Senate Postpones Action on Akpoti-Uduaghan Suspension Report

0

According to the Senate, it would not move on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension until it has the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Federal High Court of Abuja’s decision from last Friday.

On July 4, 2025, the court issued its decision in response to a lawsuit that Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed contesting her expulsion from the Red Chamber.

The upper legislative body accepted the court’s ruling in a statement released on Sunday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, but insisted that the full language of the ruling had not yet been formally served to it.

“Our legal representatives who were present at the proceedings confirmed that the complete judgment was not read in open court,” the statement said in part.

In order to allow for a comprehensive study and well-informed decision regarding the proper legal reaction, we have legally applied for the Certified True Copy.

The Senate made it clear that it would not take any action that would compromise its legal standing until the entire ruling was examined, especially any possible order that would overturn Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

The statement claims that “no party to the case has been officially served the enrolled order of the judgment, so no one can enforce any perceived order or relief.”

In his remark, Adaramodu also underlined the Senate’s continued commitment to due process and its strict adherence to the constitution’s requirements.

This incident coincides with the suspension of Kogi Central Senatorial District representative Akpoti-Uduaghan, which has drawn increasing public attention and political scrutiny.

Public discussion on elected representatives’ rights, legislative overreach, and the distribution of power between the legislature and the judiciary was spurred by her suspension in March 2025.

PDP member Akpoti-Uduaghan was controversially suspended in March of this year for what the Senate referred to as “unparliamentary conduct.”

Legal professionals and civil society organizations criticized the suspension, questioning the Senate’s power to prevent an elected representative from serving her constituency.

To reaffirm her constitutional right to participate in legislative processes and to reverse her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan responded by filing a lawsuit at the Federal High Court.

The court apparently decided in her favor on July 4, although it’s still unclear what the specifics of the ruling were, such as if the suspension was specifically revoked.

Legal experts contend that the Senate cannot be held legally obligated until the judgment’s CTC is served.

The optics of delay, according to some observers, may, nevertheless, reinforce the idea that institutions are opposed to court supervision.

The Senate reaffirmed its dedication to the rule of law and urged the people to exercise patient in its statement.

Once the court’s rulings are fully clarified, the Senate will scrupulously adhere to the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution and maintain its commitment to maintaining the rule of law, the statement stated.

The publication of the CTC could decide whether Akpoti-Uduaghan returns to the Senate floor or whether the legal battle intensifies, therefore the next few days are anticipated to be crucial.

Nine Persons Killed in Boko Haram Invasion of Borno Community

Boko Haram militants stormed the town of Malam Fatori in Borno state’s Abadam LGA, killing nine and injuring four others.

According to accounts, the tragedy occurred 272 kilometers from the state capital, Maiduguri.

The state administration stated that Borno Governor Babagana Zulum sent a delegation to express his condolences to the victims.

Sugun Mai Mele, the commissioner of local government and emirate affairs, led the squad.

The statement continued: “We are here to offer our condolences to the people of Malam Fatori for the recent unfortunate attack at the request of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is currently abroad on an official assignment.”

He assured that the military and the Borno State administration would work tirelessly to protect the town.

Because of its strategic importance, we are committed to ensuring the stability of Malam Fatori, a local government area. We encourage people to be more resilient and to pray in order to avoid similar situations in the future.

To deter future attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents, the commissioner declared that excavators would be employed to build trenches around the local government buildings.

Mai Mele warned residents not to work with militants in any form, as those found guilty will face divine punishments.

The four injured victims each received N250,000 in government support, while each bereaved family received N500,000.

Usman Tar, the commissioner for information and internal security, announced plans to move 3,000 displaced people to Malam Fatori, bringing the total number of resettled households to 5,000.

“The government of Borno state has already relocated 2,000 households, and it intends to relocate an additional 3,000 households shortly, bringing the total number of resettled households to 5,000,” Tar told journalists.

“I want to reassure the people that the state government is prepared to make the required security arrangements, giving them the resources and protection they need to prolong their stay in their country.”

Tar encouraged residents to inform the police if they saw anything odd.

Remain Committed in War Against Terror — Tinubu Tells Nigerian Military

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Nigerian Army to continue fighting terrorism, insurgency, and other security concerns that the nation faces.

Speaking at the 2025 Nigerian Army Day celebration (NADCEL) grand finale in Kaduna on Sunday, Tinubu was accompanied by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

With the subject “Developing the soldier first concept: Imperative for the Nigerian Army’s transformation drive,” the event commemorated the 162nd anniversary of the Nigerian Army.

The president praised the army’s contribution to maintaining Nigeria’s independence since 1863 and said the event, which honors soldiers who have given their lives to protect the country, is a moment for introspection and joy.

Insurgency, banditry, terrorism, and separatist agitations are among the existential risks that Nigeria still faces, he said.

According to Tinubu, “a united, firm, and uncompromising response is required to address these existential threats.”

“The army reminded Nigerians of their common fate by concluding the civil war with the timeless phrase, ‘no victor, no vanquished.'”

He acknowledged the army’s continuous reforms and gave the force credit for its contributions to peacekeeping operations in Africa and other regions of the world.

Assuring them of the backing of his administration, the president urged troops to continue working with honor, discipline, and a sense of justice.

In addition to offering his condolences to the families of the slain troops, Tinubu praised Olufemi Oluyede, the chief of army staff (COAS), for his professionalism and leadership.

He said, “They have stood for principle and fought for peace.”

Zulum: Defection Claims Are False, Meant to Stir Political Tension

The governor of Borno, Babagana Zulum, has denied rumors that he intends to switch from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Zulum and five other APC governors were allegedly finalizing preparations to abandon the ruling party, according to a widely shared social media post.

Zulum responded in a statement on Sunday, calling the claim “fictitious and mischievous” and pointing out that political critics had made it up.

According to the statement, “this is completely untrue and only exists in the imagination of its sponsors.”

They are critics who haven’t done anything significant to advance Nigeria or Borno State.

“It is a quintessential case of cheap, politically driven speculation intended only to divert our attention and incite needless political conflict.”

The governor stated that he is committed to Borno’s development and that his “loyalty to the APC remains firm.”

Zulum urged the public and media outlets to only trust reliable, official sources of information.

“I implore the decent people of Borno and the public at large to ignore this falsehood. Our hands are full with the admirable task of restoring and developing our beloved state, therefore we don’t have time for cheap politics,” he continued.

“Under the banner of our great party, the APC, we remain resolute in our commitment to serving Borno state.”
