Nigeria Governors’ Forum Applauds President Buhari for NDP 2021-2025

President Muhammadu Buhari has been praised by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for presenting the country with a new National Development Plan.

Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, spoke to State House Correspondents on behalf of his colleagues shortly after the document’s launch on Wednesday, saying the Development Plan 2021-2025 is all-inclusive and will help the country build on previous gains.

“First and foremost, let me state that I am here to represent the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, who was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.” We also congratulate the President on launching the 2021-2025 Development Plan, which the Minister of National Planning expertly introduced.

“We had an economic recovery growth plan that expired last year, which had the goal of, among other things, assisting Nigeria in exiting recession twice.” And now we have a plan in place for the years 2021-2025 that is primarily focused on ensuring that the gains have been sustained and that Nigerians continue to be included.

“This government, more than any other, has taken deliberate, active steps to include all economic groups and support them more than ever before in order for them to achieve their economic goals, for the country’s economy to continue to provide for all, and for us to see more prosperity.” And we congratulate you, and I’m sure everyone in the 36 states and the FCT is overjoyed,” he said.

All of the states were properly consulted at all stages of the plan’s development, according to the Governor.

“Some of us who are members of various committees have consulted with us.” It’s a consultative program, and we applaud both the President and Vice President for ensuring that the National Economic Council, which is the Federation’s major economic decision-making body, is inclusive and not a monologue, and that states are given pride of place,” Bagudu added.

The Governor, in response to a recent attack in his state, advised Nigerians to exercise caution when it comes to security concerns.

“I believe Nigerians must be contextual when it comes to security issues. We are all members of the human race, and as long as the problem isn’t solved, you can’t get away from it.

“Many gains have been made, but there will always be that isolated or sporadic issue somewhere,” he said. “What is important is for us to strengthen each other, strengthen our communities, support our communities, support our security agencies, and support measures that will ensure that we will dominate rather than those who do not wish us well.”

The Governor was adamant that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), would win the election in 2023.

“First, let us understand that the difference between democracy and possibly other forms of government is that there will be differences of opinion, with the hope that such differences will occasionally bring out the best or move society forward,” he said.

“We’ve always been a party that understands there will never be a single voice.” And we’re not hoping for a unified front. We hope that people will be able to express themselves and bring different ideas to the table, even if those ideas conflict, and that the democratic systems will be able to iron them out.

“I believe it is a stretch to suggest that because there is dissent or differences of opinion, it will affect our party’s share of the vote. We are a party that understands that in order to keep delivering, we must debate, compete, and bring new ideas to government. But keep in mind that, under the current caretaker committee Chairman, Mai-Mala Buni, three serving Governors, one serving Deputy Governor, a number of serving Senators, and members of the National Assembly former this, former that have all joined the party in the last two years. And that is the best evidence that, under President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership, this party is continuing to keep the promises that Nigerians have placed in us.”

Governor of Gombe appoints 3,078 development facilitators across 11 local government areas.

Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State, has approved the appointment of 3,078 development facilitators across the state’s 11 local government areas.

Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Secretary to the State Government, who conveyed the governor’s approval, said the new appointees would serve as community representatives in all of the state’s 114 wards.

“This is to facilitate community engagement in areas of sensitization and enlightenment on government policies and programs, as well as inter-governmental relations between the state and local governments,” Njodi explained.

“Each local government with 10 wards will have 20 development facilitators I and 250 development facilitators II, while those with 11 wards will have 22 development facilitators I and 275 development facilitators II each.”

According to a press release signed by Mr. Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, all of the appointments will take effect on January 1, 2022.

He revealed the decision on his Instagram page, saying it was made after much prayer and thought.

They’re “extremely grateful for the life-changing years we’ve spent together as husband and wife,” he added.

Devon requested that neither party receive spousal support because they have no children together, according to a document obtained by E News.

In Yola, Gunmen kidnap head of federal agency, four members of his family

Zakaria Kraha, the National Land Development Authority’s (NALDA) State Coordinator in Adamawa, has been kidnapped.
It was the second known case of kidnapping in the Yola capital city on Tuesday, after the wife of a district head and her three children were abducted.

Kraha was abducted while returning home from Makurdi, the Benue State capital, according to a close friend of the Zakariya Kraha family.

Kraha was whisked away, according to the friend, around Ngurore, a satellite town on the outskirts of Yola, the state capital, which has recently become known for kidnapping and other crimes.

The bandits had demanded a ransom, according to Kraha’s friend, but he couldn’t say how much.

Gunmen abducted the wife and three children of Adamawa District Head Ardo Mustapha Ahmadu earlier on Tuesday in the first of two kidnappings.

The wife of the district head and her three children, according to a family, were kidnapped from their home in Yolde-Pate, a community in Yola South Local Government Area.

Ardo Ahmadu, the Mayo-Farang District Head, was kidnapped last year and had to pay N10 million to his kidnappers before being released.

“In the early hours of today (Tuesday), suspected bandits attacked the residence of the District Head of Mayo-Farang and kidnapped four persons: his wife and three children,” said DSP Suleiman Nguroje of the Adamawa State Police Command, who confirmed the incident involving the district head’s family.

“However, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, has directed the anti-kidnapping and counter-terrorism units to track down the assailants and free the victims.”

DEPOWA Distributes Food items To Widows Of Fallen Heroes, military families

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) humanitarian gesture, which took place at the DEPOWA Secretariat and Mogadishu Military Cantonment in Abuja, benefited 50 widows of fallen heroes and 400 spouses of Non-Commissioned Officers of the Armed Forces.

Bags of rice (25kg), cartons of (indomie,) noodles, tubers of yam, vegetable oil, (maggi) condiments, and spaghettis were among the food items distributed by DEPOWA.

While presenting the items to the widows, DEPOWA President Mrs Vickie Irabor said the benevolence to the less fortunate in society was in line with the Association’s mandate.
Mrs Irabor, who bemoaned the anguish and pains experienced by widows as a result of their husbands’ deaths, said DEPOWA would remember them.

The military community, she claims, will never forget them because their late husbands gave their lives for Nigeria’s peace and unity.

“What we’ve done today, which isn’t the first time,” Mrs Irabor explained, “is just to let them know that we appreciate them and the sacrifice their husbands made for the country.”

The Chief of Defence Staff’s (CDS) wife urged the widows to use the food items to celebrate the holiday season with their children.

She thanked the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and, in particular, the CDS, Gen Irabor, for assisting DEPOWA in achieving its goals.

She revealed that as part of DHQ’s project, widows of fallen heroes are always remembered.

In a related development, the DEPOWA President donated relief supplies to the Children of Rachael Orphanage Home in Kurudu, Abuja, yesterday.

As agitation for the zoning of the APC’s governorship ticket for the state to Ekiti South Senatorial District has begun to shake the party to its foundation, a group has appealed for the intervention of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s National Leader, and Chief Bisi Akande, the party’s first interim National Chairman.

The political party known as “Ekiti South APC Mandate” is a political party in Ekiti State (ESAM)

Has urged the party’s leadership to persuade Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to reverse his position and support the zone so that justice, equity, fair play, and oneness can be established in the state.

The ESAM Coordinator, Dr. Michael Orimoloye, described Fayemi’s alleged support for his immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, as a betrayal of trust and disrespect to the zone in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday.

As a result, Orimoloye pleaded with Tinubu and Akande, two respected APC leaders in the South-west and Nigeria, to persuade Governor Fayemi to embrace zoning, the same political matrix that propelled him to power in 2007.

“We would like to appeal to the APC’s national leadership to persuade Dr. Fayemi to reverse his decision to impose an Ekiti Central candidate, failing which our party will lose the general election,” he said.

“It astounded us that Governor Fayemi, who benefited greatly from zoning in the APC, could treat the south in this manner.

“Despite the fact that the PDP’s Governorship Candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola, is from the zone, Governor Fayemi won four out of the six local governments in the south to clinch victory in the last governorship election.” The perception at the time, which is now proving to be incorrect, was that Fayemi would consider the zone for governorship after his second term ended.

“We knew the virulent agitations made by Governor Fayemi and many of us from other zones for the North to get the ticket in the run-up to the 2007 election in Action Congress.

“With the emergence of Segun Oni from the PDP, it became North affairs for a while.” Why can’t this patriotic and justifiable act be reciprocated in the interests of political stability and trust?

“We recall Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention with nostalgia and delight, and we urge the APC’s national leader to come to the aid of Ekiti South Senatorial District in the same way he helped Ekiti North produce the governor.”

“This agitation is about our today and tomorrow, not about us or any individual.” The general consensus in town is that Ekiti is no longer one of them. If this injustice is allowed to fester, the fabric of our oneness and togetherness is rapidly tearing, and it may tear to shreds.”

Professor Bolaji Aluko’s rare courage in speaking out above the whispers about the use of public resources for private gain, as well as the resignation of the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, from Fayemi’s cabinet to run for governor, were lauded by the group as courageous and patriotic acts for the senatorial district.

“Within Fayemi’s political caucus, the claim has been made that Ekiti South lacks personalities with gubernatorial carriage, competence, commitment, and mien for the plum position, but I disagree with this demeaning assertion and sinister notion.

This amounts to the assassination of illustrious and prominent Ekiti Southerners such as Professor Bolaji Aluko, a reputable professor with a proven track record; Dr. Oluyede, a successful Ikere doctor; and Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, a noted engineer with a strong legislative and executive track record.

“Didn’t people like Professor Bolaji Aluko, who is currently serving, and Hon Bamidele Faparusi, who served as commissioner under Fayemi, and other appointees from the zone give their best to serve the state?” Faparusi asked.

“We still have a lot of great people from the south who have done well under Fayemi. At the very least, these individuals should be given the opportunity to put their best foot forward.

House calls on INEC to decentralize continuous voter registration in 2023

The Nigerian House of Representatives has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to bring voter registration closer to the people in order to prevent Nigerians from exercising their right to vote in future elections.

The lawmakers’ decision came after the plenary on Tuesday approved a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by Hon. Odebunmi Olusegun.

In moving the motion, Odebunmi stated that it is INEC’s primary responsibility to register every Nigerian citizen aged 18 and up whenever the need arises.

He also stated that the INEC is now technically requiring Nigerians to appear in their office in order to be registered.

He expressed concern that encouraging citizens to congregate in a single location in the face of various social and economic challenges, as well as the apparent increase in the rate of COVID-19 spread in Nigeria, would put Nigerians at serious risk of contracting the virus.

The lawmaker also expressed concern that the action has discouraged potential voters who do not have the financial means to visit their office.

The House mandated its Committee on Electoral Matters to ensure compliance after passing the motion.

Bonnie Iwuoha, former president of NUJ, died

Mr. Bonnie Iwuoha, the former Commissioner of Information for the state of Abia and the former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has died.

Late Iwuoha, who served as the Union’s national president from 1996 to 1997, died in Umuahia, Abia State, on Monday evening.

On Tuesday night, his death was confirmed in a press release signed by NUJ National President Chris Isiguzo and forwarded.

Between 1991 and 1993, the deceased journalist served as Managing Editor/Head of Editorial Department at the Daily Times of Nigeria, as well as a Media Adviser to the then-Governor of Abia State.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists has expressed sorrow over the veteran journalist’s untimely death.

“A very committed member of the NUJ, Mr Bonnie Iwuoha was very passionate about the union and he dedicated his time and energy towards building a better union and enhancing the practice of the profession,” according to the release.

“In 2003, he worked with the late Prince Tony Momoh and others as a member of the NUJ National Registration Council to produce the first ever compendium of journalists in Nigeria.”

The Union has directed all 36 State councils and the Federal Capital Territory to open condolence registers in the name of the deceased leader, and the union has declared a three-day mourning period from Tuesday, December 28 to Thursday, December 30, 2021.

The NUJ also expressed its condolences to his immediate family as well as the journalism community, and prayed that God Almighty would ease the pain of his untimely death.

Following Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s post on social media that he’s now fit to play for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on January 9 in Cameroon, Super Eagles Interim Handler Austin Eguavoen must be grinning from ear to ear.

The Napoli forward was initially ruled out of the tournament after suffering a facial injury last November and undergoing subsequent surgeries.

However, the Napoli talisman announced on social media yesterday that he was now available for selection by Nigeria.

The news of his return to action must have greeted Eguavoen like a pleasant scent. Paul Onuachu, another Nigerian forward touted as a possible replacement for the Napoli star, suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday during his club’s Belgian league match and has been ruled out for one month.

Buhari pays tribute to Nwoha, former president of NUJ

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his condolences to the government and people of Abia State, as well as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on the death of Mr Bonnie Nwoha, the NUJ’s former national president.

In a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the president expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and associates.
