Aminu Masari, the governor of Katsina State, has thrown his support behind calls for power to be transferred to the south ahead of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.

Masari argued that the southern region should be allowed to produce the next Nigerian leader, who will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, in the spirit of fairness.;

During a press conference at Government House in Katsina, he stated that this will strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and federalism.

“Let me be very clear about my position. The governor stated, “This constitution was made for us, not that we were made for the constitution.”
“The constitution does not require us to shift power, but if you do, have you broken any of the constitution’s provisions?”

“Until such a time as we have a stable polity, I believe rotation or shifting power from time to time will help consolidate our federalism,” says Aminu Bello Masari.

Governor Masari attributed the lack of local government elections in Katsina to opposition parties putting up legal barriers to the process.

He did say, however, that the election will take place next year because more than 70% of the necessary infrastructure is already in place.

“The opposition has known from day one that they are trying to sabotage the election, and litigation is one good way to do that,” he said.

“Not once, not twice, have we gone to the state’s high court, the federal high court, and up to the supreme court.”

Incoming Local Government Chairmen have been tasked by Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari to investigate and find a way to generate more revenue so that they can pay their employees’ salaries.

Masari made the call on Tuesday in Katsina while answering questions from reporters.

“In terms of funding local government councils, it is true that almost all local governments were overstaffed when we arrived.

“We attempted to verify the actual staff on the payroll through table payment, but what we were able to obtain was insufficient to reduce the local governments’ massive bill.”

“We also discovered they all had genuine appointment letters,” he added.

The governor claimed that the previous administration had halted the payment of over 2,000 dollars in salary.

“We looked into their situations, and some were given money, while others were integrated because that was what they were promised during the campaign.”

“And, as you may be aware, oil prices plummeted as a result of this.” Local governments’ finances were also harmed as a result of this.

“You may recall that the federal government was forced to bail out the states.

“You know, there are no industries in Katsina State to employ people.” The civil service, either state or local government, is Katsina State’s only industry.

“Paying salaries and pensions is critical to the state’s economic survival.”

“Some local governments have resolved the problem, while others are still working on it.

“We will be holding local government elections in Katsina state very soon.” Those new chairmen and leaders must understand that in order to pay their employees, they must improve revenue generation.

“Those who are unable to pay their employees will have to face their employees and explain why they are unable to do so,” he said.

Sunny Onuesoke, Chief Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Delta State governorship aspirant, has reiterated that Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi’s recent outburst against former President Goodluck Jonathan is an attempt to deflect attention away from his ministry’s, principal’s, and party’s failures.

On Channels Television’s ‘Hard Copy,’ Amaechi claimed that the money left behind for Nigeria by former President Goodluck Jonathan at the time of his departure on May 29, 2015 was insufficient to run the country for three weeks. He stated that bandits and all other killers are a result of poverty, which did not begin with the current administration.

Onuesoke, reacting to Amaechi’s allegation at Asaba International Airport in Asaba, Delta State, said the Transport Minister’s allegation against Goodluck Jonathan has no iota of truth and is merely an attempt to divert Nigerian attention away from the administration’s failure.
Onuesoke, who described Amaechi’s allegations as an attempt to smear Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP administration, questioned how the money left behind by the former President could not sustain Nigerians for three weeks, as well as where they see money to sustain the economy for the past years.

He said it is embarrassing that a government that has been in power for two terms continues to blame a government that has only been in power for one term, and he asked when the current government will stop playing the blame game and focus on keeping the promises it made to Nigerians.

“How can a two-term President continue to blame a single-term President?” It makes me think they know they’ve failed, which is why they’re blaming Jonathan. They keep blaming Jonathan because their failures are right in front of their eyes,” he explained.

The PDP Chieftain argued that Nigeria’s economy was better under the PDP, while the APC’s economy is in deficit.

“Under the PDP, you had a government that listened, had rule of law, and you could protest without fear,” he says. The cost of living was significantly lower, unemployment was significantly lower, insecurity was contained to a specific area, and electricity supply and charges were significantly lower. However, you are dying today and are unable to cry. If you dare to cry, you will be imprisoned. A 20-naira egg now costs 70-80 naira. 20 naira indomie now sells for 80-99 naira. 5 naira pure water now costs 20-30 naira. Electricity bills that used to be 1,500 Naira have now risen to 40,000 Naira with no light.”

In terms of bandit and insurgent attacks, the former Delta State governorship candidate recalled that Boko Haram activities were curtained in far into Borno state’s forest during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, and that the ex-president almost silenced them before the arrival of this administration.

“However, we now have not only Boko Haram insurgents, but also ISWAP and bandits killing and abducting innocent Nigerians throughout the northern part of the country,” he said.
