Popular Buhari supporter abandoned the President after five brothers were kidnapped

0

On Facebook, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s most ardent supporters, Sirajo Saidu, has abandoned the president. He has now declared his support for Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State.

Mr Saidu, from Sokoto State, said the recent kidnapping of five of his brothers by bandits influenced his decision.

PREMIUM TIMES reported on December 12 that bandits abducted over 20 people in separate attacks on communities in Sokoto State’s Wurno Local Government Area.

Mr Saidu announced on his Facebook page shortly after the abduction that five of his brothers were among the 20 residents kidnapped.

“My brothers are all among the five men apprehended in our home. The bandits did not kill anyone in our community, but they did abduct a large number of people in that single operation. We’re waiting for the ransom to be demanded by them (the bandits). Please remember to pray for my brothers and other victims “He wrote in Hausa, the language he uses to communicate with his Facebook friends and over 4,000 followers.

Mr Saidu told PREMIUM TIMES two days after the kidnapping that the kidnappers had contacted his family and that members of his family had begun contributing money to pay the ransom. He did not, however, specify the amount requested.

I’m now a Kwankwaso supporter.

Mr Saidu, who is known for attacking critics of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on social media, said he dumped Mr Buhari because no one helped him and his family raise the ransom money.

“I, Surajo Saidu Sokoto, have dumped the Buhariyya (a Hausa coinage for Buhari supporters) team and have now joined the Kwankwasiya (a Hausa coinage for Me Kwankwaso) team as of today, December 29, 2021. Because bandits kidnapped my five siblings and I posted it on social media several times, but we paid the ransom money and none of them came to my aid, “he penned

Mr Saidu has replaced Mr Buhari’s picture on his Facebook profile with that of Mr Kwakwanso.

Former Kano governor Mr Kwankwaso is a member of the opposition PDP. In 2019, he ran for the PDP presidential ticket but was defeated by Atiku Abubakar, who went on to lose the general election to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Saidu has previously accused ‘enemies of Arewa,’ Nigerian journalists, and others of attempting to destabilize President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He previously stated that he would lead the State Security Service in launching a House to House arrest of Mr Buhari’s critics in Sokoto in order to distract him.

On Monday, December 27, he posted a message praising Mr Buhari. He captioned a photo of the president, ”

“Whenever I see a picture of Baba Buhari smiling, it makes me happy.”

More Buhari-Favorable Posts
“We’ll never leave Buhari, even if insecurity leads to our deaths in the north.” We’ll keep following him and waiting for God to put an end to the problem. Mr Saidu once wrote on Facebook, “We know that a responsible person like Buhari will never deceive his kinsmen.”

“I’m the most maligned Buhari supporter in history, whose parents are carelessly insulted on social media by Buhari’s critics,” he wrote in another post, which received 175 comments and four shares.

“God may admit me into his Jannah (paradise) due to the level of insult on my parents as a result of my support for Buhari,” he wrote in another post that received 223 comments and 58 shares.

‘It’s a good thing for him.’
Meanwhile, Facebook users who were ‘offended’ by Mr Saidu’s earlier posts praising Mr Buhari and accusing his critics of exaggerating the security situation in the North-west have been blasting him in his latest post.

Arewa Queen, a popular Facebook user, shared the post, writing, “So, Mr Sirajo Saidu has finally felt Baba Buhari’s cane.”

“This is karma in its purest form,” Abdurahman Yunusa said. May God help you and your brothers.”

“No way!” said Ahmad Ishaq, a Sokoto resident. You must continue to back President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.”

North-western insecurity
The kidnapping of Mr Saidu’s brothers is not unusual. Armed individuals regularly attack communities in the states of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna, killing and kidnapping people at will. Thousands of people have been killed or kidnapped in the North-West states in 2021, despite massive security deployments in the area.

An herbalist named Ani Ikoneto died after his manhood was bitten off by his own dog in Calabar, the capital of Cross River state.

The herbalist, who was said to have been drunk, suffered severe bleeding and pains after the dog bite, according to an eyewitness and a neighbor of the deceased.

The herbalist had already gone to bed when the eyewitness arrived from the fatal drinking spree, with some people still around and awake, according to an eyewitness who is a neighbour of the deceased, simply identified as Itoro.

He claimed that the herbalist screamed after the dog bit off his manhood, and that his neighbors mistook him for a hoodlum before rushing to his home.

“When he came back, we had gone to bed, but some people were still outside,” the neighbor, who identified himself as Itoro, continued. He went into his room and fell asleep without closing the door, and he puked on himself due to too much alcohol.

“His outside dog smelled the poo and went inside to eat it.” During the process, the dog ate a piece of his privates, mistaking it for meat or excreta.”

Dr Datti Ibrahim Ahmed, an elder statesman and President-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), has died.

The renowned medical doctor, politician, and Islamic cleric died in Kano State in the early hours of Thursday, according to reports.

In 2013, he declined to serve on President Goodluck Jonathan’s committee to engage in dialogue with Boko Haram members, citing a lack of sincerity on the part of the government.

Ahmed leaves behind a wife and ten children.

Wike: My entire family’s adult males have been charged with murder

0

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has described how he was arrested and arraigned alongside his father and all the adult males in his family over a ‘trumped up’ murder charge stemming from a dispute over chieftaincy title in his community.

Wike, who spoke at the 65th birthday celebration of Emmauel C. Ukala, a Port Harcourt-based Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), also recounted how robbery charges were leveled against him in an attempt to prevent him from taking over as chairman of the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area after he won election.
He claimed that it was only because of Ukala’s intervention as their lead counsel that they were released and acquitted of the murder charges.

“At one point, the entire family was charged with murder, and every male was taken away.” Only women with children between the ages of one and five remained in the house. I was studying law at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, which is now Rivers State University, at the time.”

Governor Wike revealed that the legal luminary, with whom he worked after graduating from the Nigerian Law School, took his family’s ordeal very personally and did everything in his power to ensure that they received justice.

When he declared his intention to run for chairman of the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in 1998, some callous politicians in his constituency banded together and conspired with the police to frame him for armed robbery, according to the governor.

“Then, most people may not believe it, but he never collected a dime from the governorship tribunal to the Supreme Court during my governorship election.”

Wike lavished praise on Ukala on Tuesday night in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, as his children, relatives, and friends gathered to celebrate his 65th birthday. Dr. T. C. Osanakpo presided over the event (SAN).

The Governor, who was accompanied by his wife, Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, said Ukala had been his family’s lawyer before he went to Rivers State University of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University, to study law.

Wike praised Ukala for being a worthy mentor to him and his wife when they first started their legal practice in Port Harcourt, describing him as a refined and disciplined lawyer.

The Rivers State governor praised the celebrant’s children for choosing to honor their parents, Emmanuel and Dr Kate Ukala, in honor of all the sacrifices they have made in raising them to be responsible citizens.
God has endowed Ukala with great learning and wisdom, which he has put to good use in the defense of the vulnerable in society, according to Sokoto State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Suleiman Usman (SAN).

“As a member of the Legal Practitioner Disciplinary Committee, I have worked under your close supervision and agree with all of the compliments that have been heaped on you today.” “You’re a one-man institution,” says the narrator.

Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Okey Wali (SAN), stated that when he assumed leadership of the Bar, one of the major challenges he faced was the issue of lawyer indiscipline.

To address the issue head on, he said Ukala was appointed to the NBA’s Legal Practitioner Disciplinary Committee, and the Bar’s discipline was restored before he left office.

Governor Wike, his wife, and everyone who graced the occasion were thanked by Ukala, who said he was duped by his children into attending the surprise birthday party they secretly organized.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo has been praised by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the South-West for reducing tuition fees at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso by 25%.

Olatunji Adegboye, the South-West Coordinator of NANS, issued a statement in Ibadan on Wednesday expressing his gratitude.

The tuition fee reduction would improve LAUTECH’s status, according to the association, which described it as a sign of commitment to making education accessible and affordable.

The tuition fee reduction is a welcome development for LAUTECH students and all students in the South-West, according to the statement.

“The news of the LAUTECH tuition fee reduction came at a time when the global economy is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges.

“We recognize the government of Oyo State’s decision as a remarkable sign of commitment to making education affordable to the state’s masses, despite the state’s economic challenges.”

“The Oyo State Government should not stop there,” NANS said, adding that “developmental projects on the campus, as well as adequate training for the university’s staff, should be added to the mix.”

The association urged other South-West state governments to develop policies and actions that would improve access to affordable, high-quality education for the general public.

He claims that the South-West is the country’s primary source of formal education, and that this heritage must be preserved.

Buhari Promises to address foreign exchange supply

THEWILL, DECEMBER 30TH – The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has been assured by President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration will do everything possible to improve access to foreign exchange for the importation of raw materials and machinery.

In response to requests for the manufacturing sector to contribute more to the Nigerian economy, Buhari spoke on Wednesday at the State House during an advocacy visit by the leadership of MAN.

The president told the Mansur Ahmed-led MAN executives that the relevant ministry would revisit their concerns about the increase in excise duties on selected products and other tariff-related matters, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

On the African Continental Free Trade Area, President Muhammadu Buhari stated that Nigeria would expedite the process of establishing the Designated Competent Authority, which will oversee the administration of the Rules of Origin and Commission, as well as the automation of the issuance of electronic Certificates of Origin.

“Our strategic plan to increase manufacturing activities in the country is on track,” he said.

“We will continue to improve patronage of locally made goods, bridge the gap between skills required by industry and those provided by our tertiary institutions, and ensure seamless access to long-term finance for our Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises.”

“We recognize that MAN is an important partner on this journey, and we will continue to work with you.”

Buhari said that a private-sector-led economy is the best way to create jobs, and he urged the MAN leadership to continue to encourage manufacturers, saying that the government recognizes their members’ and other private-sector organizations’ resilience in promoting a thriving manufacturing sector in Nigeria.

On the impact of COVID-19 on global economies, the President stated that while the pandemic harmed the Nigerian economy by causing price fluctuations in oil, his administration has effectively contained the pandemic and other diseases’ spread.

He went on to say that the federal government would continue to use prudent methods of judiciously allocating limited revenue to keep the economy afloat and stimulate growth.

President Buhari also emphasized that, despite limited resources, his administration has made significant progress in road and rail infrastructure development, manufacturing sector stimulus packages, energy management, and exporter support to improve the operating environment for Nigerian businesses.

“These projects are on display for everyone to see. Furthermore, we are pursuing reforms in the ease of doing business with vigour, and we are currently putting in place other necessary policy measures and incentives to ensure full recovery from the effects of COVID-19, to sustain economic development, and to further protect the economy from the potential impact of global crude oil price fluctuations.

“Let me assure you that this Administration is fully aware that agriculture and a viable domestic manufacturing sector are critical to Nigeria’s survival…

When I say agriculture, I’m referring to the agro-allied sector, which is the value-added component of the value chain.

He stated, “A strong manufacturing sector creates more jobs and wealth for our people.”

Mariam Katagum, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, promised that the Ministry would continue to work with MAN on policy, trade, and creating an environment that would help businesses grow in Nigeria.

The Patriotic Nigerians Network (USA) has called on Nigerians to pray for Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

The group, in its Christmas message this evening, also urged citizens all over the world to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.

According to a statement signed by its President, Solomon Itodo, now is the time for Nigerians to unite and seek the face of God.

The Patriotic Nigerians Network added that the Kogi governor has all it takes to unite the nation and tackle insecurity as he has done in his state.

According to Itodo, persecution, temptation and blackmail lie ahead for Bello, hence Nigerians must rally around him not to succumb to.

According to the group, Bello is the perfect successor to President Muhammadu Buhari and must be protected spiritually against evil forces.

While calling on all Nigerians to continue to support the governor, the group urged Bello not to be intimated but to remain steadfast in delivering good governance to his people.

Eulogies To A Worthy Neighbor At 62

0

By Philip Agbese

Jack Welch, a former Chief Executive Officer of General Electric (GE), in his book titled “Winning”, said “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” The above quote perfectly defines the leadership personality of the current governor of Nasarawa state and my neighbor in the North Central Nigeria, Engr. Abdullahi Sule. He has shown that leadership is not just about self but making decisions that bring growth and development to the people with a sense of complete loyalty and implicit dedication.

Just a few days ago, Governor Sule celebrated his 62nd birthday anniversary and there were a lot of positive comments from well-meaning Nigerians and especially indigenes of Nasarawa, where he is ‘Exceeding all expectations,’ the coined blueprint of his administration.

Within his short time as the fourth democratically elected governor in the “Home of Solid Minerals”, Engr. Sule has shown that he understands governance. His administration has been transparent and accountable, responsive and inclusive, people oriented and human capital focused and above all, very compassionate about his people.

It is because of his compassion for the Nasarawa State Child and the leaders of tomorrow that the governor had in 2020, signed the “Nasarawa State Child Right Protection Executive Order” into law, fourteen years after the Executive Order for the Protection of Children was enacted in 2005. The bill provides for the safety, security, wellbeing, care, good health and education of a child. The law is to prohibit the bastardized Almajiri system that has left many children vulnerable and prone to diseases and which has condemned many of them to a life of penury and crime. He was angered at the system which has allowed extremist religious groups to conscript the innocent Almajiri children, taking advantage of their hapless situation as they beg on the streets.

As a good governor, Governor Sule understands that the security of lives and property of his people is his major priority. To this end, the governor has always been supportive of the security agencies through the provision of vehicles and other logistics. It is also because of his administration’s efforts to boost security in his state and the entire North Central region that in 2020, he hosted an all-encompassing Security meeting tagged ‘The North-Central Security Summit’ in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, targeted at mapping out strategies to contain the rising security challenges in the region, and by extension the country. This summit took place after the governor had visited the states of Benue, Kogi and Plateau to get firsthand information on the security situation at the border areas.

At the Summit, discussions were centered on cases of armed robbery, human trafficking, kidnapping, murder, activities of the Boko Haram sect, communal clashes and conflict between farmers and herdsmen, unemployment, drug addiction and Almajiri syndrome. These issues were observed as reasons for the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the hands of unpatriotic elements. It was not only a concern to the security agencies and those saddled with the responsibility of governance, but to all and sundry. It had in attendance, governors of the six states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the region, security experts, traditional rulers, state and federal lawmakers, civil society groups and other stakeholders, whom unanimously agreed to adopt Community Policing Strategy as an effective tool in bringing policing to the grassroots.

Engr. Sule, as the governor of Nasarawa state, has shown that accountability and transparency are not just mere political slogans or empty phrases to entice the electorate during campaigns. His administration has proven to be upright, resolute and a worthy example of probity and fiscal discipline that is over and above the Nigerian mentality of “It is our turn, let us take our share and go.”

His Excellency, Engr. Sule, has shown strong political will and sincerity of purpose. His assent to the Nasarawa State Public Procurement Law of 2020 is a direct by-product of transparency and accountability. He has equally established the Nasarawa State Bureau of Public Procurement to serve as an integrity-centred mechanism with the responsibility of managing public supplies and ensuring value for money.

And in his desire to turn Nasarawa state as the new bride for investors, the governor has established new regulatory and institutional frameworks that enables local and foreign firms to invest and grow both domestically and internationally. As a result of these efforts, Nasarawa State today is the most investor efficient and most investor friendly state in Nigeria. This is in clear contrast to what was the case in the previous years. From being a poor semi-rural state dominated by peasant farmers, Engr. Sule has pushed the state to the forefront of economic prosperity as can be seen in the mega projects across the state.

The projects are all going to be of great economic boost to the state. The Karu Mega Bus Terminal, the Farin Ruwa Waterfalls, the filmmaking and power generation projects; the 13,000 hectares of Industrial Mega City situated on the fringes of the Federal Capital Territory, around Karu-Gurku-Kabusu, as well as the already towering presence of Agro-allied giants in Nasarawa State such as Dangote Sugar, Azman Rice, Flour Mills and Olams mega farms as well as a swath of technology hubs and world class Universities suitable for a great place that is people-friendly, affordable and inclusive for all.

Nasarawa State today, has become a place of pride and value to many due to the tenacity displayed by the workaholic governor, Engr. Sule. The state is increasingly known as been accepted across the country/ world as not just a place that is open for business, it is regarded as a secure centre for peace building and diplomacy as well as a theater for culture, arts and entertainment.

And as greatly captured by Harry S. Truman, “Men make history and not the other way round. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.”

His Excellency, Engr. Sule has brought a great deal of leadership changes and those changes are working for the overall good of Nasarawa State. He is already on track to make a place on the history map of the state. His administration looks promising and it is not surprising that there are already calls and endorsements by various groups in the state for the governor to run for a second term come 2023. A belated Happy Birthday, Your Excellency Sir.

Agbese, a UK trained human rights activist wrote this article from Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

2023: APC Youths warn those planning to truncate Gov-Buni led caretaker committee’s roadmap for victory

0

The All Progressives Congress Youth Development and Solidarity Vanguard have warned those it described as troublemakers and agents of destabilisation to quit their quest to jeopardise Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee’s roadmap for the party.

The group also vowed to resist anyone who imports thugs and miscreants into Abuja from Lagos or Kano to stampede the committee from carrying out its duties to project the party for victory ahead of 2023.

The APC Youth, Development and Solidarity Vanguard gave this strong warning at a press conference today in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Secretary-General, Hon. Tobias Ogbeh, passed a vote of confidence on the Governor Buni-led committee, noting that it has already surpassed expectations.

According to Ogbeh, the committee has quelled the crisis in the party, united faithful and set the APC on the path for groundbreaking success in 2023.

He admitted, however, that despite these gains, some saboteurs have relentlessly tried to undermine the party under different guises, including launching judicial challenges to the legality of the committee.

Ogbeh said these saboteurs are people who pretend to be APC members at the national, state and even ward levels yet deployed different schemes to intimidate the committee.

But Ogbeh warned these saboteurs to desist from incurring the wrath of party men and women, who he said: ” will not hesitate to activate the full weight of the law to curtail the illegalities they are perpetrating against the party”.

The group also said anyone trying to force the committee to leave office when it has not finished its mandate of rejuvenating the party is either of the PDP pretending to be APC or saboteurs who want the party to lose future elections

It, however, urged the committee to rise above the distractions that are being placed in its path and forge ahead to consolidate the party.

Read full statement below:

Gentlemen of the press, the All Progressives Congress Youth Solidarity Vanguard (APC-YSV) has been closely following and monitoring development around our great party’s Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee and we are compelled to make our intervention.

We like to state categorically from the onset that we are 100% behind the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led All Progressives Congress Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee. We believe in its ability to deliver on the assignment that our great party has entrusted to it, the being committee being populated by persons with high moral standing and unquestionable loyalty to the party and an evident commitment to its success.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is on record that the Caretake Committee under Governor Buni’s leadership has consistently lived up to expectation. Save for its nomenclature, it has delivered value to the party on a scale that challenges the performance of a full-fledged EXCO. Even more impressive is how it ensured that the crises that necessitated its constitution did not fester to become worse while assiduously working to unite the party and heal the tears of division that had hitherto threatened to undermine the internal cohesion of the APC.

Sadly, from the inception of the Committee, there have been an unrelenting war by enemies of the APC to undermine the body in the hope that they will sabotage the party by so doing. These saboteurs have packaged their attempts to undermine the party under different guises including launching judicial challenges to the legality of the Committee, questioning its composition, picking holes in its mandates, expressing doubts in its timelines, and dismissing the outcomes it will deliver even before it has properly started its work.

Interestingly, these saboteurs masquerade as stakeholders with germane concerns. These are people who pretend to be APC members at the national, state and even ward levels to be eligible to institute lawsuits in the hope of using same to hobble the Committee. Their intention is to use these suits to prepare the ground for making APC ineligible to field candidates in future elections. They are the ones hoping to prevent the committee from doing its work.

The saboteurs even pretend to be analysts to float all manners of perverted conspiracy theories in the mainstream and social media, all in efforts to distract the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee and derail it from delivering on its mandates. Even more laughable is the presentation of these saboteurs as support groups, geo-political and state groups, and even pressure groups of our great party. What stands these frauds out is their singular commitment to destroying the work the Committee working to reposition the party.

It is interesting to note that those posturing as party members, analysts and members of youth support groups are operatives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who hold the childish notion that they are suitably placed to destroy the APC from inside having operated as PDP’s sleeper agents within our great party for some time. In addition to being operatives and agents of the PDP, some of these individuals are anarchists, whose murderous and destructive intentions spill beyond destroying the APC to include the destruction of Nigeria as a nation.

These latter sets of saboteurs are the ones that have been importing thugs into the National Headquarters of our party, ostensibly to intimidate and stampede the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Committee. The manner of characters they import to the National HQ under the guise of being affiliated to the APC is so appalling bearing in mind that our great party is too refined and polished to have such characters as members. Their very appearance contradicts the finesse and intellectual drive for which our party is known.

Even worse is their mission, which centres around attempting to coerce the Committee into altering the roadmap it has drawn and is implementing for stabilizing and growing the party. Their warped belief is that the APC will die once they can railroad the Caretake Committee into progressing in error by stampeding it.

The All Progressives Congress Youth Solidarity Vanguard therefore categorically warns all these saboteurs to desist from incurring the wrath of party men and women, who will not hesitate to activate the full weight of the law to curtail the illegalities they are perpetrating against the party.

We categorically warn those behind this illegality that any attempt by import thugs from Lagos or Kano or any other part of the country into the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja will be met with stiff opposition by progresive youths of the party. We will impose the needed democratic lessons and discipline on them so that they will appreciate the place of decorum and respect for processes.

Our Vanguard want everyone to note that no one is in doubt as to the primacy of the Caretaker Committee at this critical juncture of our party’s history and evolution. Any attempt to iintimidate coerce or sponsor paid agents to force the hand of the caretaker committee will be met with stiff resistance from those of us with the genuine interest of the party at heart. The saboteurs should stay warned.

We charge the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led All Progressives Congress Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee to rise above the distractions that are being placed in its path as it forges ahead to consolidate our great party. It should implement urgent measures to keep the National Headquarters free of all manners of imported thugs for it to have time to complete the assignment that it has so far executed flawlessly. We make bold to say that history will reckon with the great service the committee has rendered through its steadfastness.
