Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is expected to be the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) presidential candidate in 2027, according to Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.
Speaking to reporters regarding the recent wave of PDP defections, which included Atiku, Pearse stated that the action poses no threat to the PDP.
He claimed that the former PDP presidential candidate had harmed his own reputation.

“Atiku will definitely win the ADC primary and secure the presidential ticket, but he cannot win the presidential election on that platform,” Pearse conceded.

“The former vice president consistently makes poor decisions. In a recent interview with reporters in Lagos, the PDP leader said, “What he is doing now is messing up his political credentials.”

He predicted that many ADC defectors would quickly realize their error and rejoin the PDP.

Meeting of the NEC
Speaking further about the PDP’s internal developments, Pearse said that all questions regarding the party’s unity and strength had been answered by the recently concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The successful NEC meeting, according to Pearse, a former member of the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and the organizer of the Reset Lagos PDP group, marks a significant turning point for the PDP.

“There is nothing wrong with PDP. The issues that many other political parties face are not present in the PDP. “The PDP has a very solid foundation,” he said.

“Just like in a marriage, there can be some issues that must be resolved,” Pearse said, comparing the party’s internal conflicts to marital misunderstandings. Do you know what you would face in the other marriage you choose to enter if you leave this one abruptly? It could get much worse, possibly disastrous.

“Our NEC meeting has taken place, and all indications suggest that PDP is doing well. As Democrats, we elect our leaders rather than appointing them like the other party does. Everything is in order, and PDP is progressing. We look good. PDP has already returned. Those quitting the PDP are perplexed because they just made a mistake.

A Masterstroke: Zoning the Presidency to the South
Pearse called the party’s decision to zon its 2027 presidential ticket to the South “a game changer.”

“This is the only way to defeat incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) President Bola Tinubu,” Pearse said.

According to reports, the PDP had its 101st NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday and decided to host its national electoral convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16.

Party stakeholders reportedly attended the meeting, which covered important internal reforms and established a strategic framework for the general elections in 2027.

Pearse’s remarks coincide with the PDP’s efforts to reestablish itself as a viable rival to the ruling APC in the face of internal power struggles, defections, and the pursuit of a victorious alliance in the upcoming election cycle.

Nentawe Yilwatda, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) new national chairman, has ruled out the possibility that Nigeria’s opposition parties could run against his party in the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda asserts that the APC is unconcerned about the dangers posed by the nation’s opposition groups, such as the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He stated, “At this time, there is no opposition,” in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, just after he was elected chairman of the ruling party.

He claimed that the APC won the 2023 elections handily and has since won a landslide in nearly every bye-election and off-season gubernatorial contest, so the 2027 presidential election would not be an anomaly.

He expressed “zero fears” regarding the likelihood that the opposition coalition would overthrow the APC in 2027.

“Why has the APC won every by-election in the past two years, in most cases with overwhelming victories?” He joked.

The former Humanitarian Affairs Minister promised to bring the party together and recruit additional governors from the PDP and other opposition parties to join the APC in addition to winning elections.

“I have the responsibility of bringing the party together and growing it.” As of right now, we have 23 governors. Bringing in more is my job. “We would bring in more and do the legwork,” he said.

The icy relationship between Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the political powerhouse of Kano, and his estranged former deputy, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, will continue to elude resolution because it is so personal, according to former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido.

During an interactive session with reporters at his Sharada office in Kano, Lamido discussed many matters of national significance and claimed that ego was the driving force behind the rivalry between the Kano political gladiators.

A powerful political figure in North-West Nigeria named Lamido stated that “Kwankwaso and Ganduje are twin brothers; their fight is about ego, and until and unless they choose to lower it for the interest of Kano, the frosty relationship will continue to defy third party intervention.”

He emphasized that “they have been together, know each other too well, and have been working closely together for two long years, but they have been using their ego to fuel the crisis.”
According to Lamido, “the two personalities have the answer to burying the hatchet, because the complexities of the fight are so deeply personal that no external influence can resolve it.”

The PDP mainstay advised parties to proceed with prudence when discussing the proposed idea to establish more states in Nigeria.

Given the numerous issues plaguing the Nigerian government, the Talakawa philosopher said that the desire to establish new states shouldn’t take precedence.

“The elements no longer trust one another, you know. North and South are the topics of discussion.
The topic of discussion is Muslim-Muslim. Christians saying no is what we’re discussing. Lamido emphasized that there are other issues that are tearing us apart and that need to be addressed.

The PDP leader clarified, saying, “There is insecurity beyond all else. You’re not entirely certain that you’re safe wherever you are.

“And of course the poverty and the hunger,” he added. Thus, priorities ought to be established. I don’t mind, though, if this security issue manages to resolve the issue.

Early Thursday morning, Festus Fuanter, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) deputy national secretary, formally resigned from his post.
Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the party’s recently appointed National Chairman and a native of the Plateau state, was the reason behind Fuanter’s departure.
The resignation was made in compliance with the statute of the ruling party, which states that two national officers cannot be from the same state.

At the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the stakeholders had already chosen Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN) as the party’s national legal adviser.

In the meantime, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has received praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his contributions to the party, particularly the creation of the Progressive Institute.

During Thursday’s APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Tinubu commended Ganduje for his dedication to the party’s principles and declared his intention to keep him on as a consultant to the incoming national leadership.

“I assigned him a task concerning the establishment of a Progressive Institute. The President declared, “We can still take him [Ganduje] as a consultant to work with the new chairman to do that. The National Secretary will work with the chairman to revitalise it.”

President Tinubu declared that the dates of the States, Local Government, and Ward congresses will now take place in December, a calculated move meant to accommodate a flood of anticipated defectors.

Many people believe that this postponement is a component of the APC’s larger realignment attempts to strengthen its ranks in anticipation of the general elections in 2027, particularly in light of the formation of opposition coalitions.

The official appointment of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, as the new APC National Chairman was said to be the high point of the NEC meeting.

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, seconded Governor Hope Uzodimma’s nomination, which was made by the Progressive Governors’ Forum chairman.
