Ex-Senator Tunde Ogbeha Dumps PDP, Citing Public Disgrace

0

Former Senator Tunde Ogbeha, who served as Kogi West’s representative, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ogbeha said that the party had lost its course and had devolved into a shell of its former self in a letter to the chairman of PDP Ward A in Lokoja LGA.

“I hereby formally notify you of my decision to leave the party with immediate effect,” he wrote.

Ogbeha claimed that even after the 2015 general election, when many defected from the PDP, he stayed faithful to it.

He stated, “You may remember that I have stayed steadfast and steadfastly dedicated to the principles of the PDP over the years.”

“After our defeat in the 2015 presidential election, almost all party members left, but I vowed to be the last man standing.”

The former senator claimed that once the party lost power, he sought to rebuild and reposition it.

“Without coming across as immodest, my efforts to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party have helped bring the PDP back to national prominence and have made it a popular choice for many Nigerians,” he stated.

Recent occurrences characterized by widening rifts, an ongoing leadership crisis, and intractable disagreements have diminished the party to a ghost of its former self and exposed it to public mockery.

“After extensive discussions with my friends, family, and political associates, I have decided to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in order to contribute to the group’s endeavor to save our country and protect our hard-won democracy.”

The 80-year-old Ogbeha served in the Senate from 1999 until 2007.

He was the administrator of Akwa Ibom and the former Bendel state under General Ibrahim Babangida’s military dictatorship. He is a retired brigadier general.

Femi Adesina: ‘Buhari Could Have Long Been Dead If He Had Used Nigerian Hospitals’

Former presidential spokesman Femi Adesina has stated that former President Muhammadu Buhari could have died long ago if he had used Nigerian hospitals.
According to reports, Adesina stated this in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday.
Adesina stated that anyone protesting Buhari’s death in a London hospital should remember that the former president had always frequented London hospitals before taking office in 2015.

According to Adesina, Nigerian hospitals lacked the facilities and knowledge required for Buhari’s care, and the former President needed to be alive to affect change in the country.

He stated, “Buhari has always had his medicals in London, even while he was not in office. This is not the same as when he was the only president. Then you must be alive to get certain things corrected or modified in your country.

“If the president had opted to do his medicals in Nigeria, as if it were a show, he could have died long ago because the country may not have the knowledge he requires. But he had to be alive to get the country to a situation where we could have that competence. So many who talk about traveling overseas don’t realize that a man needs to be alive before he can affect change.”

Buhari Feared Mass Hardship Without Fuel Subsidy – Nwajiuba

Former Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba claims that former President Muhammadu Buhari kept the petrol subsidy in place to keep Nigerians alive.

During an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Nwajiuba stated that the former president made major contributions to Nigeria’s progress, and that statistics from his eight-year rule validates his efforts.

“All of the numbers from every known publication over the past eight years are clear. This is an economy that has recovered from recession twice. This is an economy that has been affected by COVID. “This is an economy in which he performed exceedingly well,” the former minister stated.

“We held the dollar at the exchange rate when he left, which was less than N500.” He held the subsidies so that Nigerians would not perish.

“In the previous two years alone, the number of deaths has outpaced the number of votes cast. I mean, just from tankers colliding and people getting burned, people going to buy Christmas presents, people going to get food, and they die as a result.

“He knew, and he granted an interview to BBC why he wanted to defend Nigerians ahead of others.”

Nwajiuba also cited data from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), which stated that 183 companies had closed in the last two years, a situation he claims contrasts with the relative stability throughout Buhari’s tenure.

The former minister stated that Buhari’s administration made development in critical sectors such as mining, non-oil exports, and oil production.

“He did this work, and the numbers are there to show,” remarked the gentleman.

“Everything we did in mining, the improvements in non-oil exports, improvements in oil exports, the idea behind condensates, everything that we did in government, are all articulated.”

Nwajiuba, on the other hand, admitted that, despite the fact that Buhari was simply human and lacked comprehensive expertise, his government was quite successful.

Buhari died on July 13, 2025, in a clinic in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 82.

Buhari originally served as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, then as elected president in 2015, and was reelected in 2019.

Sustainable Mobility: Abia Procures Chinese Electric Buses for Public Transport

According to Prince Okey Kanu, the state’s information commissioner, the Abia State government has purchased a few electric buses for its mass transit system.

Okey Kanu told reporters in Umuahia during the State Executive Council meeting that the cars are being built in China and would be delivered to the state in November 2025.

The commissioner claims that the essential logistical support has been set up and that the bus routes have been laid out in preparation for the scheme’s successful launch.

Regarding the state government’s efforts to promote Ndigbo culture, the head of state information said that the State Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy would begin a creative talent program in 17 LGAs of the state on July 25, 2025, in keeping with the cultural revolution the governor is advocating.

He revealed that the program would promote youth inclusion and grassroots empowerment of the state’s youth population, with the goal of scouting for artistic and other creative skills throughout the state’s 17 LGAs.

In keeping with the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti OFR, Prince Kanu said, “This program further underscores the state government’s commitment to cultural innovation with the engagement and global visibility of Abia’s creative potential.”

In order to raise Aba’s creative profile internationally while adhering to international standards, he disclosed that Abia State has started formal procedures to designate Aba as a UNESCO Creative City. He also mentioned that a delegation is scheduled to visit Aba this week for preliminary evaluations of Aba.

Regarding Abia’s ongoing water crisis, Kanu stated that Dr. Alex Otti, the state governor, will officially launch the Aba Regional Water Scheme’s rehabilitation at CKC Aba on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, as part of his campaign pledge to bring drinkable water back to Abians’ homes in the state’s cities and communities.

He added that the governor will also introduce the Integrated Wash Accelerator Programme (IWAP), an initiative aimed at reviving water sanitation and hygiene in the state. It will be held on Wednesday at the recently built Wash Facility at Okigwe Park in Umuahia.

The Abia commissioner said that the Federal Government’s declaration of a public holiday in the wake of President Muhammadu Buhari’s passing has caused some of the events scheduled to be launched by Governor Otti to be postponed.

According to him, “three significant events between Aba and Umuahia will take place on July 16, 2025.” His Excellency will launch the Aba Regional Water Scheme’s renovation there in Aba.

Due to inadequate operations, maintenance, and malfunctioning infrastructure, the system needs to be rehabilitated in order to regain its sustainability and performance.

The state government gave Vena Cava Limited the contract to redesign the water plan as part of the project’s initial phase, in accordance with the governor’s directive to supply Aba with drinkable water.

The Integrated Wash Accelerator Program (IWAP), which aims to restore water sanitation and hygiene in the state, will also be introduced by His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti earlier on the same Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

The facility’s goal is to serve the state’s present and future development needs by offering safe, easily accessible, and sustainable water sanitation services.

Through the Abia Integrated Wash Accelerator Program, the project is in accordance with His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti’s mandate to achieve Zero Defecation in Abia State, which is the sixth Sustainable Development Goal of the UN.

According to Prince Kanu, the scheme will entail the building, running, and upkeep of contemporary solar-powered water facilities.

In terms of electricity, the commissioner revealed that Otti would put into service 430 kW of battery storage and 150 kV of solar power. This project aims to reduce dependency on grid electricity, which will reduce diesel consumption and promote sustainability by powering state health facilities with solar energy.

The Abia information chief revealed that around N4.1 billion was realized from the launch of the Abia State Security Trust Fund, which took place last week.

According to him, rural artworks are presently being planned at FMC Umuahia, Osisioma junction (Flyover) in Aba, and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, among other locations, in accordance with the government’s beautification and urban regeneration initiative including designated public areas and roads.

Furthermore, he stated that there is currently direct level work going on at 53 places throughout the state.

The governor is committed to restoring pipe-borne water to houses in Abia state, according to Engineer Ikechukwu Monday, Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, in his contribution.

He mentioned three important water projects in Aba that are scheduled for renovation: Ogbor Hill, CKC, and Ariaria.

“We have begun awarding contracts,” he said. The Aba Regional Water Scheme, which consists of three water schemes that form and support the entire Aba network, is thus the initial area of focus.

We project that the first phase, which involves redesigning the water scheme to provide well-treated water that satisfies WHO criteria, would be finished in six months.

And the second step is to enter the reticulation, for which we have already prepared the request for quotations. And it will entail testing and distributing the water transmission lines that need to be rehabilitated in Aba. Thus, we will approach them in stages.

Speaking as well, Mr. Matthew Ekwuruibe, Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, revealed that his ministry is now painting murals as part of the state government’s beautifying effort and would shortly be building monuments.

“In the states, we initiated a beautifying project. You’ll notice a change if you’re driving by FMC Gate and Osisioma Flyover. Additionally, we intend to go so far as to paint murals in some of these locations.

In addition, in order to make sure that we support our principal’s efforts, we will start erecting monuments in appropriate places around the states.

Additionally, we have started the formal Creative Talent Hunt launch in each of the 17 LGAs. You understand why I’m discussing talents. It would be impossible to discuss Nigerian talent today without bringing up Aba. Talents abound in Aba. Curatives are found there, according to Ekwuruibe.

Senator Ireti Kingibe Condemns Tinubu’s Decision to Appoint Wike

0

Ireti Kingibe, a senator from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called President Bola Tinubu’s choice to select Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister his worst error.
Kingibe reportedly stated this in an interview with ARISE Television.

“It is my personal opinion that that is rather unfortunate, because if I were making a list of all the things that President Tinubu has done wrong, the greatest wrong he has done to himself, the thing that has demarcated him the most has been on Minister Wike,” the Labour Party (LP) lawmaker said, criticizing President Tinubu for giving Wike such political prominence despite being a member of the opposition.

She responded to reports of Wike’s popularity in recent surveys by saying, “If, in fact, Minister Wike is as popular as Depending on who did it and how it was carried out, you’re referring to that poll. I’m not disparaging, but I am pointing out that elections for local governments will be held in a few months.

“Can he tell the people, go and do this and they do it,” she added, “when we get to any kind of election? If he is unable to, it indicates that all ministers have been doing is sulking and continuing to make noise.

Kingibe further charged that the minister had misused property intended for a public hospital. “Land in Bwari has been set aside for a general hospital. Minister Wike cancels it and has a market, shopping center, or other event set up there. Minister Wike has been pestering embassies and the entire FCT over ground rent.

Kingibe went on to say, “Oh, I’m going to take those documents and go to the body, the equivalent of his state assembly, and insist that that assembly, the president from whom Wike derives his powers, goes back to the National Assembly for approval for everything,” in reference to the documents she said demonstrated Wike’s abuse of power.

“Wike, who receives authority from him, only attends the National Assembly to discuss the budget. What has he done with all of his IGR, TSA? He has never been held accountable for anything.

An interministerial committee has been established by President Bola Tinubu to organize former President Muhammadu Buhari’s state funeral.

Buhari passed away at a clinic in London, UK, on Sunday.

The original plan was for the former president’s body to reach Nigeria on Monday.

Katsina Governor Dikko Radda, however, stated that Buhari’s remains will reach the nation by noon on Tuesday and that the funeral would be held two hours later.

It is anticipated that Tinubu would receive his late predecessor’s remains.

According to a statement from Segun Imohiosen, director of information and public relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Federation (OSGF), George Akume, the SGF, is in charge of organizing and directing a fitting state funeral for the deceased former president. PDP Hits Back at ADC, Declares Solid, United Front in Katsina

Sunday’s enlarged caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was called “Let’s make Katsina state work again.”

Thousands of party stakeholders from all 34 Local Government areas in the state’s 361 wards attended the meeting.

In response to the significant number of PDP supporters, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, the 2023 candidate for governor and Katsina leader, blasted the ADC’s formation, claiming that the PDP is still stronger and more cohesive.

The PDP is extremely strong at the state and national levels, he noted, notwithstanding recent defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Senator Danmarke, “the ADC is not a threat to the PDP because it is a coalition of disgruntled politicians who are using every means to seize power in order to enrich themselves.”

He said that some PDP members in the state defecting to the coalition group was a blessing in disguise, helping to build and unite the party in the state.

“We are pleased to have those who were obstructing the party’s advancement gone. They deceived us, despite our trust and confidence in them,” he stated.

Nonetheless, the state PDP leader urged the populace to maintain their resolve, emphasizing that the PDP is the only political party capable of rescuing the nation from the detrimental governance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a previous statement, state PDP Chairman Alhaji Nura Amadi Kurfi thanked everyone for attending the caucus meeting and said it was a sign of the party’s increasing popularity in the state.

“We can address important issues and reposition our party for success in future elections,” Kurfi continued.

The departure of former President Muhammadu Buhari has been met with profound sadness by prominent Nigerian politicians, who have called it a major loss for the nation.
Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, praised Buhari’s service as a statesman and soldier and highlighted his contribution to Nigeria’s leadership development. Obasanjo, who led Nigeria as a military leader from 1976 to 1979 and then as an elected president from 1999 to 2007, said the statesman, who was born in Katsina, passed away when the country might have used his experience.

“Gen. Muhammad Buhari, a colleague, comrade, and fellow patriot, passed away this afternoon. He fulfilled his roles as an administrator, a soldier, and a statesman—all of which he performed for the country.” In order to bring us out of our current predicament, we need the combined experience—or, if I may use that term, the statesmanship—of all those who have had the chance to lead this nation in the past. His passing is a huge loss to the country.
We will mourn him terribly, and may his spirit rest in peace,” Obasanjo said.
Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), a former military president, also expressed his sorrow over Buhari’s passing while reminiscing about their shared military history and close friendship.
According to Babangida’s memorial, “I received the news of the passing of my friend, my brother, my course mate, and a fellow soldier in the journey of nationhood, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, with a deeply heavy heart.” We met in 1962 when we both enrolled at the Kaduna-based Nigerian Military Training College. Muhammadu distinguished himself for being quiet yet determined, principled but modest, intensely patriotic, and fiercely devoted to Nigeria from those early days.
Over the years, we had triumphs and times of introspection, as well as heartbreaks and dreams. In addition to military training, we were united by a common dedication to the principles of discipline, service, and patriotism,” he said.
Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also expressed condolences for the deceased leader, calling Buhari a patriot who exemplified integrity and discipline. After learning of Buhari’s passing in a London hospital on Sunday, Osinbajo, who worked under Buhari from 2015 until 2023, said he and his wife Dolapo were profoundly grieved.

Osinbajo stated in his statement, “This afternoon, Dolapo and I learned with great sadness of the passing of His Excellency, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.” We spoke with Her Excellency Aisha Buhari and their son Yusuf Buhari in the minutes that followed in order to offer our sincere condolences and to join in their immense sorrow over the loss of their cherished family member, with whom we had the privilege of serving our country for eight unforgettable years.
Osinbajo continued, discussing Buhari’s life: “Nigeria has lost a true patriot, a man whose life was marked by unwavering devotion to the nation he loved.”
The lasting legacy of President Buhari will serve as evidence of the dignity of public service, which is characterized by integrity, self-control, and an unflinching dedication to the common good.
As his homage came to an end, Osinbajo prayed for the country and Buhari’s family.
We pray that the All-Powerful God may give his family and everyone grieving his loss peace and fortitude. May he always be blessed in his memory.

APC Knocks ADC: Your Coalition Isn’t Strategic, Just Imitation

0

According to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the alliance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is attempting to emulate the ruling party’s successful 2013 merger.
The APC rejected the coalition, arguing that it could not be compared to a 2014 strategic political merger in which the late Muhammadu Buhari’s Congress for Progressive Change, Atiku Abubakar’s New PDP, the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, led by Bola Tinubu, and others united to form the APC.
In an interview with Punch, Ijeoma Arodiogbu, the National Vice Chairman of the APC (South-East), characterized the alliance as “a coalition of strange bedfellows” that lacked the depth, structure, and strategy that helped the APC come to power more than ten years ago.

Why should people relocating to the ADC cause us concern? Name these people, please. He stated, “There is no reason for concern unless our major leaders, APC governors, or lawmakers are defecting.”

According to him, the 2013 merger was strong because of Tinubu’s years of political mentoring and the formation of strategic alliances, which were supported by Buhari’s widespread support in the north from more than 12 million devoted voters.

On the other hand, he claimed that the ADC was just a collection of disgruntled politicians who lacked an electoral basis or ideological ties.

Their only goal is to replicate our actions. Tinubu developed and raised people all around the nation. Because of his reputation and vision, he drew in governors and legislators. They are acting in a desperate attempt to seize power, not strategically, Arodiogbu stated.

He went on to say, “The majority of people joining the ADC are internally displaced PDP and Labour Party leaders who were unable to find employment in their previous platforms.

The APC, meanwhile, is winning more governors and lawmakers every day. There are more people publicly declaring for us, even on the parliamentary floor.

The APC leader also made fun of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, implying that his dissatisfaction with not being included in Tinubu’s cabinet was the reason behind his affiliation with the ADC.

“Do we even need to discuss individuals like El-Rufai?” he asked. The fact that he was not appointed as a minister is his only complaint. Such behavior is entitlement, not ideology. What other members of the coalition are worthy of our attention besides him?

Arodiogbu went on to emphasize Tinubu’s economic goals and reform program, emphasizing that the president was still dedicated to rolling back previous abuses and safeguarding Nigeria’s financial future.

“We cannot continue with the old ways,” President Tinubu stated when he took office. Eliminating waste and leaks is his main goal. He pointed out, “That’s what separates us from those posing as an alternative.”

$300 Helicopter Fee Unnecessary – Sanusi Tells Federal Government

0

It has been requested that the Federal Government reverse its intention to collect $300 in helicopter landing fees from businesses that supply shuttle services to Nigerian oil and gas firms.

The CEO of Aero Contractors, Capt. Ado Sanusi, who made the call, stated that the fee lacked a regulatory framework in a conversation with aviation journalists in Lagos.

Sanusi further maintained that NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Ltd., the business requesting the charge, had not rendered any services that would have justified reimbursement for costs.

He said the corporation could argue for such payment if it had offered any infrastructure, such as improving communications or any other type of service, but that no service was rendered by the company.

Sanusi asserted that the $300 fee was not included in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) cost recovery fees, stating that a business or government must first invest in consumers’ valued infrastructure or equipment before requesting reimbursement.

“For example, if I invest in radios or navigational aids, I will inform the customers that I am making this investment and that I hope to recover my investment over a five-year period,” he stated. However, no investment is made in this one.

“They should pull it out and show Nigerians the investment they have made in communication, navigation, or surveillance if they or the corporation say there is an investment.

“But you are not a government organization to say that you want to tax people; you haven’t invested anything and you just put a levy on it.”

According to Sanusi, the oil business refused to pay the charge because it lacked justification, even though the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development had ordered it to be done.

Sanusi stated that in addition to many other fees paid to the appropriate government organizations, helicopter operators also pay the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) for navigation, terminal, and landing services.

Sanusi questioned the ministry’s and NAMA’s insistence on the levy’s payment.

Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, helipads, airstrips, aerodromes, terminals, platforms, rigs, and oil and gas businesses operating in these areas were given a seven-day ultimatum by NAMA in June to start paying the fees.

The fee was deemed to be consistent with international best practices and the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) standard and recommended practice by NAMA.

The ICAO member states in Europe, Asia, and the Americas were currently collecting the charge, it added.

NAMA had promised that the fee could not be collected again, but the oil and gas corporations disregarded the warning about a month after the ultimatum ended.

In light of the increasing use of drones, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft, NAMA asserts that these levies were necessary to maintain the upkeep, modernization, and acquisition of air navigation infrastructure, which is vital for the safe and effective management of Nigeria’s airspace.

Helicopter operators, oil firms, and the government have been engaged in a four-year-long battle.
