Day After Tinubu, Ebonyi Governor Informs Buhari of Presidential Ambition in 2023

Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his desire to run for President in the upcoming general elections.
According to Leadership, the politician revealed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday after meeting with President Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

Umahi asserted President Buhari had advised him to seek advice from a variety of sources.

Umahi’s visit to inform President Buhari of his presidential ambition comes exactly 24 hours after Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), paid a similar visit to the President.

Tinubu, who paid a visit to Buhari yesterday, had stated that becoming Nigeria’s president had been a lifelong ambition of his.

He also stated that he had the confidence, vision, and ability to build on the current President’s vision.

Tinubu said he was at the White House to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari about general Nigerian issues, including some of the APC’s concerns as well as security concerns.

“I have informed the President of my ambition but I have not informed Nigerians yet, I am still consulting,” he said when asked if he has informed President Buhari of his desire to run for President in 2023.

“As for the kingmaker’s cap,” he explained, “I’ve never seen a kingmaker’s cap before.”

“That is the truth, and I have never seen anywhere in the world where it is written in the rule book that a kingmaker cannot be a king – unless they commit murder.”

“So, whatever attribute you have of me is your own opinion.” Without the title of kingmaker, I want to pursue my ambition. You can create literature and stories based on your own personal experiences.

“He (Buhari) is a democrat,” says one observer. He didn’t ask me to come to a halt. He didn’t tell me not to try and achieve my lifelong goal. So, what makes me think he’ll say more than that? You are in charge of a democratic regime, and you must adhere to democratic principles, values, and virtues. That’s all there is to it.”

World Bank predicts sluggish global growth until 2023, citing new COVID-19 variants as evidence.

Despite a strong rebound in 2021, the World Bank says the global economy is entering a “pronounced slowdown” due to new threats from COVID-19.

Other factors that could jeopardize the recovery of emerging and developing economies include rising inflation, debt, and income inequality.

On Tuesday, the World Bank released its Global Economic Prospects report, led by David Malpass.

According to the report, global growth will slow significantly from 5.5 percent in 2021 to 4.1 percent in 2022.

As pent-up demand dissipates and fiscal and monetary support is unwound around the world, 2023 will lag by 3.2 percent.

The rapid spread of Omicron, according to the institution, indicates that the pandemic will continue to disrupt economic activity.

“In addition, a significant slowdown in major economies, such as the United States and China,” the report stated, “will weigh on external demand in emerging and developing economies.”

New COVID-19 outbreaks, supply-chain bottlenecks, inflationary pressures, and financial vulnerabilities, according to the World Bank, may increase the risk of a hard landing because developing economies lack the policy space to support activity.

“The world economy is dealing with COVID-19, inflation, and policy uncertainty at the same time, with government spending and monetary policies treading new ground.

“Developing countries are particularly harmed by rising inequality and security challenges.

President David Malpass stated, “Putting more countries on a favorable growth path requires concerted international action and a comprehensive set of national policy responses.”

The World Bank’s prediction came just days after a researcher and his team discovered Deltacron in Cyprus.

The new strain is a hybrid of delta and omicron, according to Leondios Kostrikis, Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus.

IHU, a new variant, had been discovered in France a few weeks before. A slew of cases have been reported near Marseille’s south end.

Hafeez Tijani Adiaro, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, has died.

During the administration of former Governor Rasheed Ladoja of Oyo State, the deceased was a political force.

According to sources who spoke, the political heavyweight Oke-Ogun died on Monday.

Adiaro has also served on the Irepo Local Government Council for three terms. Kishi, his hometown, is the seat of the Irepo Local Government.

At Maryam Babangida Junction in Asaba, the state capital, the Delta State Police Command’s Eagle-Net Special Squad arrested two suspected internet fraudsters.

One locally made double-barrel pistol, three live cartridges, one jack knife, two wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, one Samsung Galaxy, one iPhone, two black berets, a driver’s license, one GT bank ATM card, one hand chain, and five-finger rings were also recovered from the suspects.

Daniel Anikpe and Chikeluba James Ani, both 27 years old, are among the suspects.

They were apprehended by police during a routine stop-and-search operation after they intercepted a black Toyota Camry car with the registration number ABH 911 GW and two male occupants.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command, led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali, confirmed the report.

“One locally made double barrel pistol, three live cartridges, one jack knife, two wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, one Samsung Galaxy, one iPhone, two black berets, a driver’s license, one GT bank ATM card, one hand chain, and five finger rings were recovered after a painstaking search was conducted on the suspects and the vehicle,” he said.

“Investigation later revealed that the suspects are into internet fraud, and one of the Suspects Daniel Anikpe admitted that he got the gun about eight months ago from his friend named Tata (surname unknown) who is currently in Ogwashi-Uku prison for an offense of armed robbery,” according to the Police image-maker.

“He also stated that he paid twenty-five thousand naira (#25,000) for the gun.”

“He said that in the course of his cybercrime activities, issues involving formula sharing usually arise with his criminal partners, so he bought the gun to exact revenge on anyone who tries to defraud him of his ill-gotten gains.”

“Investigation is ongoing,” DSP Edafe said.

A supposed stakeholders summit by an All Progressives Congress group was thrown into chaos on Tuesday over the sharing formula for bribes received by its leaders.

The group, under the auspices of APC Rebirth Group, convened the meeting at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre Abuja, to allegedly disburse funds received from some anti-Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extra- Ordinary Convention Planning Committee elements in the ruling party and opposition.

Trouble broke out when some youths at the event expressed their displeasure over N250m received by its leadership which they claim didn’t get to them.

The young APC members, who turned up in their numbers, said that they were yet to get their cut from the kickback despite working round the clock to disrupt the Governor Buni-led committee.

According to the youths, the Director General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Dr. Salihu Lukman, is among the elements against the APC leadership.

Speaking at the event, Comrade Danielson Momoh, who is part of the APC Rebirth group said they had planned to maim the PGF DG for plotting with the convener against the wish of other members.

He noted that the convener, Aliyu Audu, together with Salihu, selfishly squandered the funds against the interest of other members.

According to our reporters on ground, Audu physically assaulted Momoh in a bid to cover up his mess.

It was gathered that he throw punches at Comrade Momoh and didn’t want to speak.

But speaking to selected pressmen after the fracas, Momoh said “we want change but we are not ready. We can not continue to operate the same way as our leaders”.

” We are aware that Audu received N250m. But he doesn’t want to share. We are not happy. He threw punches at me. I was civil. Mr Salihu is lucky to have escaped. We wanted to show him that we are displeased”.

Some other members of the APC Rebirth group would later stage a walkout protest from the event.

They said they were blind all this while and can’t continue to jeopardise the efforts of the Buni-led committee.

NYSC printing press ready for commissioning – DG

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has expressed satisfaction with the level of work carried out at NYSC ultra-modern Printing Press, Kaduna, in readiness for commencement of its operations.

Speaking on monday when he inspected the new building and the various equipment installed, Ibrahim said what he saw was delighting, adding that the outfit would soon be inaugurated.

According to the DG, the establishment of the Printing Press was in line with his administration’s policy on reinvigorating the NYSC Ventures as well as promoting human capital development.

The Director-General added that the completion of the outfit in Kaduna would provide more impetus for the setting up of  similar platforms in the remaining five geopolitical zones of the country.

He announced that all State Secretariats of the Scheme within the North West Zone and other contiguous States would be mandated to patronize the new outfit while also charging its managers to embark on aggressive drive for public patronage.

Conducting the DG around the complex, the Head of the NYSC Printing Press, Kaduna, Mr. Sam Nkwopara, hailed him for the bold initiative in setting up the outfit, and described it as another major feat added to the long list of the DG’s outstanding accomplishments.

Nkwopara said the outfit was ready to handle general printing work for NYSC formations and the general public in the North West zone and other contiguous states.

He congratulated the Director-General on his promotion to the rank of Major General,  and prayed God to grant him the grace to do more for the NYSC Scheme and the nation at large.

Civil Defense Arrests Salesman for Attempting to Kidnap His Boss

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a young man who stole N500,000 to buy Christmas presents for his girlfriend.

Ayodeji Fanas, 21, is accused of defrauding his victim of N500,00 in the guise of purchasing a vehicle.

Tobiloba Olayinka, a 21-year-old sales boy, was arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap his boss and demand a ransom of N1.5 million.
The suspects were arrested by men of the Command’s anti-terrorism operatives, according to the NSCDC Commandant, John Fayemi, who briefed journalists in Ado-Ekiti.

Daniel Emmanuel, who was accused of stealing fabricated metals, was also paraded, with police claiming the man became a suspect due to his recurrent involvement in nefarious crimes in the area where the incident occurred.

“Following a thorough investigation, we discovered that he used the money to buy phones for himself and a variety of gifts for his girlfriend, as well as go on a spending spree during the holidays by lying to his friend that his father had sent him N100,000 for Christmas and New Year celebrations.”

According to Fayemi, the suspect allegedly wrote to his boss in December, threatening to kidnap him unless he paid N1.5 million.

“We have a case involving Tobiloba Olayinka, a 21-year-old salesman who was apprehended by men from the counter-terrorism squad for threatening to kidnap his boss, Hamzat Adebisi.

“On the 8th of January, 2022, the suspect was arrested after a thorough investigation. The boy was the victim’s salesman, who concocted a letter with a strange name and account number, demanding N1.5 million or his employer would be kidnapped.

“Had it not been for my men’s quick response, he would have been botched after the covert operation.” To defraud his employer, he used a fake name, account, and phone number. His phone number was traced, and he was apprehended.”

He promised that after the investigations into their cases were completed, all of the suspects would be prosecuted.

It was merely insinuation, according to Fayemi, that members of a certain ethnic group who committed crimes in Ekiti were being spared from arrest and prosecution.

Senator Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the only party capable of rescuing Nigeria from its current state of insecurity and economic woes.

When Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike paid him a visit in Yenagoa on Monday, Diri said the PDP had a good chance of producing the President of Nigeria in 2023.

He described the presidency as a sacred office in Nigeria, adding that the PDP has repositioned itself to win the presidency in the general elections of 2023.

“The presidency is a sacred office, and we must do everything we can to protect it and ensure that our party wins the general election in 2023,” he said.

“Unity is the most important aspect of our party.” The second issue is who will be elected president. We have an experienced national chairman who can lead us back to power in 2023.”

Nigerians, he claimed, were waiting for the party to save them from the country’s current situation, and he stressed that the party’s leaders and members could not afford to miss the opportunity.

Nigerian Defence Academy praises NYSC Director-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim

The Nigerian Defence Academy has praised Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), for his outstanding achievements in the scheme.

When the Director-General paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Monday, the Commandant of the Academy, Major General IM Yusuf, made the commendation.

Ibrahim was described as a source of pride for the Nigerian Armed Forces, with his achievements in NYSC consistent with the qualities of hard work, dedication, selflessness, and dynamism he demonstrated in previous appointments.

General Yusuf praised the Director-General for his contributions to the NDA’s success, particularly as Head of the History and War Studies Department and TETFUND Desk Officer.

“It was to his credit that NDA hosted a conference of the Historical Society of Nigeria for the first time,” he said, referring to Ibrahim’s pivotal role in securing accreditation for the History and War Studies Department’s courses.

His accomplishments in NYSC, he said, were not unexpected given his previous record of excellence.

Ibrahim’s promotion to Major General was congratulated by the Commandant, who described it as well-deserved.

The Academy would continue to support the Scheme, particularly in the area of Corps Welfare, he said.

Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General, thanked the Commandant for his mentorship, describing him as a thoroughbred senior officer.

He expressed gratitude to NDA for its support of NYSC, especially as one of the largest Corps employers.

Ibrahim thanked the Commandant in particular for prioritizing the welfare of Corps members, including providing them with lodging and food while on transit.

He assured the Corps members that they would continue to give their all in the service of the country.

Meanwhile, the Director-General has praised Corps Members stationed at the Nigerian Defence Academy for acting as good ambassadors for the Scheme, urging them to keep up the pace of dedication and contribution to national development.

He advised them to pursue their dreams with zeal and to develop vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

The Director-General also urged Corps members to use social media only to promote national unity and development, rather than to promote hatred and ethnic jingoism.

Three Youths Killed on Farmland in Ebonyi

Residents of Amaeze in Ishiagu community, Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, were terrified on Monday after three people were killed in the area.

The deceased were farmboys who were discovered dead in their fields.
Mr. Monday Okorie, the chairman of the Amaeze Community Development Union, confirmed the incident to reporters in Abakiliki on Monday.

Women who went to the farm and discovered the bodies of the deceased, according to Okorie, broke the news about the indigenes’ gruesome murders.

He went on to say that details about the incident are still sketchy, but that it has been reported to the police for further investigation.

Their bodies were discovered at ‘Uzohu,’ a border between Ishiagu and Lokpa communities in Abia State, according to him.

Two of the victims were Amaeze residents, while the third was an Ihietutu community resident in Amaeze, according to Okorie.

“Some community women who were going to their farms early this morning alerted me to the discovery of three bodies at farmland on the border between our community and Lokpa community in Abia State.”

“I immediately contacted the Nigerian Police’s Ivo Division and mobilized our youths, who went with the police to recover the bodies.”

“For the time being, we are unable to determine the true cause, motive, or perpetrators of the murders of our vibrant youths.

“And the deaths of these three young people came as a shock to the community, causing fear and panic.”

“Within the scope of the law, we will do everything possible to expose the actors,” he said.

Mrs Loveth Odah, Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Police Command, could not be reached for comment.

However, a senior police officer with the Nigerian Police Force’s Ivo Division, who did not want his name published, confirmed the incident.

“We received a distress call from the chairman of the Amaeze community, reporting the discovery of three new dead bodies on farmland near the Amaeze-Lokpa community border.

“The Divisional Police Officer dispatched officers to the crime scene and recovered the three bodies, which were taken to an Isiagu morgue,” the source said.
