Ngor Okpala bye-election: PDP Accuses APC Candidate Of Sponsoring Thugs To Harm Members Of Constituency

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State have accused Blyden Amajirionwu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of funding thugs to attack the party’s campaign train at Ntu in the state’s Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.

Comrade Collins Opurozor, the PDP’s Director General of New Media, told media on Monday that party supporters were ambushed and attacked by hoodlums with various weapons.

“Members and supporters of the party incurred varied degrees of injuries, and campaign cars were broken,” according to the party. This comes just days before the byelection for the Ngor Okpala State Constituency, which will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
“The show of shame, which is a further confirmation that democracy in Imo State is seriously jeopardized under Hope Uzodinma, is deeply troubling, and it must be condemned by all and sundry.

“The Inspector-General of Police should, therefore, immediately arrest Blyden Amajirionwu and subject him to painstaking interrogation, investigation and arraignment to stem the tide of violence in Ngor Okpala.

“Every patriotic Nigerian must now speak up and should never sit back and watch Ngor Okpala become another killing field which some parts of Imo have since become.

“One way to decisively tackle this and nip the emerging insecurity in Ngor Okpala in the bud, is by ensuring that this most audacious mayhem unleashed on innocent PDP supporters is never allowed to go unpunished. Blyden Amajirionwu has become a national security threat, and must immediately be arrested!

“In the last two years, Imo has been plagued by very many anti-democratic realities. Private citizens, journalists and critics have been arrested and detained. Protesting workers and pensioners have been rounded up and beaten like beasts. All democratic institutions, including the parliament, have been dismantled, and the worst form of dictatorial fascism foisted on the state by Uzodinma.

“What is really bizarre and unacceptable too is that the attackers, as the victims and eyewitnesses alleged, openly spoke of their membership of the APC and affinity with one Blyden Amajirionwu, who happens to be the factional candidate of the APC in Saturday’s bye-election. This issue must therefore never be treated with levity.

“If the APC in Imo State and its candidate in Ngor Okpala could be caught in the act, aiding and abetting violence, what other evidence is required to conclude that the party and its chieftains have questions to answer over the festering violence in Imo? Thousands of innocent citizens, as well as law enforcement agents, have lost their lives in this orgy of insecurity. It is a heartbreaking situation in Imo. The bestial attacks on PDP members today in Ngor Okpala have thankfully offered a befitting clue into the perplexing insecurity in the state.”

When contacted for reaction, Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, debunked the claims that he was responsible for the attack on PDP campaign train, describing it as fallacy.

He said, “I am seriously pained that some ungodly insinuations in some quarters have linked me with the unfortunate saga, but I want the PDP to prove their allegation beyond mere words.”

IPPIS:  FG Suspends  Salaries Of 243 Workers For Refusing To Participate In Verification Exercis

For failing to update their information online on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS, 243 employees’ pay have been suspended.

Recall that the Federal Government ordered employees to update their data online through the IPPIS network, threatening to suspend the wages of 1,173 employees if they did not comply by January.

The alleged ‘ghost’ workers were discovered in the ministries of Information and Culture, Labour and Employment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Education, Works and Housing, and Youths and Sports Development, according to the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF.
Ghost workers were also discovered in the office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, some federal government colleges and Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

A circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Career Management Office, OHCSF, Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi, while confirming the incident said the verification exercise was meant to facilitate the identification of ‘ghost’ workers in order to curtail avoidable financial excesses in personnel costs, and ensure credible staff records.

The circular partly read, “Despite all the publicity and circulars to Ministries, Department and Agencies, some employees in the core MDAs did not comply with this directive and were suspected as ‘ghost’ workers.

“The salaries of 243 officers in the attached list have been suspended from the IPPIS platform immediately. ;;

It, therefore, advised officers on the list to visit the office of the Permanent Secretary, CMO before April 15, 2022, with all relevant documents that shows that they were duly employed by the Federal Civil Service Commission.

Amaechi Explains Why Kano Would Host Nigeria’s Largest Rail Station

Kano State, according to Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, will have the country’s largest rail station since it will combine two rail lines.

Amaechi made the remarks during a visit to Abuja by a Kano State delegation led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to discuss the state’s rail and inland dry port (IDP).

“We have two significant projects we want to execute in Kano,” the minister stated. “The first is the standard gauge from Kano to Kaduna.”

“We are requesting land from the Kano State Government in order to construct Nigeria’s largest station.” Because we are connecting two train lines, it is the largest station.
”The first is the Kano-Maradi, which will be empty in Kano and then the second one is Kano –Kaduna, which will also be empty in Kano.

”Don’t forget the station we are building in Kano will be the station that will take passengers from Lagos to Kano.

”If you combine Kano-Maradi and Lagos-Kano, you will know that the volume of passengers you will get in a week will be about a million passengers,” Amaechi said.

According to the minister, there will be an expansion in the concept of the Kano Station, which is largely the same framework as the Lagos Station but has more space than the Lagos Station.

He noted that the visit of the Kano delegation was also an opportunity to deliberate on the Dala IDP, which was already at the advanced stage.

He said the ministry’s delegation would on March 5, visit the site to ascertain the level of work and how further the ministry could support realisation of the project.

Earlier, Ganduje said that the state government had contributed about N2.5billion to the dry port project to ensure its speedy completion and commercialisation.

“We are investing about N2.5billion, we are providing access roads, we are also providing other social amenities just to contribute our own quota.

“That project was conceived 20 years ago but never materialised until during our time.

“So, I make sure that this project is a reality and in order to do that we have to provide an enabling environment to contribute our own quota.

“So, we are happy with the developers because they have gone far and we are happy with the honourable minister of transportation because he has given maximum cooperation in assisting to see that the Kano State Dala IDP is a reality,” Ganduje said.

Group lauds Buhari, Buni over postponement of APC national convention

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Professionals and Great Minds has endorsed the ruling party’s reversed timetable and rescheduling of its national convention.

The group, which said the development is an attestation that reason has prevailed over selfish interests, also hailed President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Mai Mala Buni for their interventions.

Speaking at a press conference today in Abuja, Amb. Ugokwe Prince said the Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) displayed bravery amidst pressure, sabotage and blackmail.

According to Prince, the move has averted impending doom in the APC while further saving Nigeria from spiraling into an intractable crisis as “any resulting destruction of the APC would have significantly distorted the political landscape”.

He, however, called for sanction for those that almost succeeded in destroying the party.

The group also urged the CECPC to be wary of those governors behind the crisis in the party, urging that they should not be allowed to play major roles in future activities.

The APC Professionals and Great Minds, therefore, advised the CECPC to make good use of its additional time in office to further reconcile the party and undo the governor’s damage.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Professionals and Great Minds is pleased to welcome you to this press briefing. Our pleasure derives from the success that has been recorded in the fight against the erosion of our democracy as APC members have proven that the collective will is superior to the imposition of a minority, irrespective of how ferocious that minority is.

Gentlemen of the press, recall that there has been a lot of rumblings over the forced scheduling of the elective National Convention of the APC for Saturday February 26, 2022. The date was widely rejected, criticized, and kicked against by APC stakeholders. Only those that imposed the date on the party, some self-centered northern state governors, were in support of the inauspicious date.

The rejection of that stemmed mostly from the obvious reason that the party is still too fractured and splintered at the state chapters, caused mostly by the same state governors. Even the Reconciliatory Committee, led by His Excellency Abdullahi Adamu appealed for more time to reconcile more factions. There were also other factors, like logistics and the need for further consultations before the convention.

In all, those calling for the convention to be shifted from the February 26 date meant well for the party. But the state governors were hell bent on holding the event on the date they have chosen as part of their selfish intention to hijack the party from its true owners, which are the party members. It is on record that the governors resorted to extreme measures to impose their minority decision on the rest of us. We have noted this act of belligerence against party members and there shall be reckoning.

Gentlemen of the press, we are pleased that reason has finally prevailed, and the National Executive Committee has agreed a reversed timetable of the party’s activities which has effectively postponed the APC National Convention to a later date. APC Professionals and Great Minds therefore endorses the reversed timetable and the rescheduling of the the national convention. For us, this development is an attestation that reason has prevailed against selfish interest.

We commend the APC as a party that is receptive to the views of its members. The decision to postpone the National Convention is a welcome development within the party and it is good for Nigeria’s democracy as a nation. There is no denying the fact that the crisis over the scheduling of the convention was beginning to impact the entire nation negatively.

APC Professionals and Great Minds appreciates the wisdom of the party’s leadership even as we commend their bravery in addressing the concerns raised by critical stakeholders in defiance of a clique that wanted to personalize a party that we all worked hard to build. This patriotic step has saved the APC from sinking as was already being predicted. It also saved Nigeria from spiraling into an intractable crisis since any resulting destruction of the APC would have significantly distorted the political landscape as we know it.

This development has confirmed that the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) remains an assembly of credible Nigerians and faithful party loyalists who mean well for our party and the future of this country. Their perseverance in the face of blackmail, harassment, and provocation from the camp of the state governors is a lesson to the rest of us to maintain our focus even in the face of persecution once we are certain that we are doing the right thing.

We will however urge consequences for those that almost succeeded in destroying the APC. Individuals that can be inordinate in their ambition to the point of willingly sabotaging the party must be taught that they cannot get away with such rascality. It is important as well that a precedence is set to discourage anyone or group of persons from attempting such stunts in the future. Even if the party’s leadership decides to be magnanimous, it is up to party members, especially at the state chapters, to exact some sort of punishments for the these overbearing governors.

We plan to make a demand to the Reconciliation Committee, and even the CECPC, that the specific state governors behind the trauma the party went through should only be allowed to play limited role in the future activities of the party. This is especially so when it has been established that these people had perfected plans to defect after ruining the party.

Meanwhile, we urge the CECPC to make good use of its additional time in office to further reconcile the party and undo the damage that the governors did to the party with their selfish preoccupation. The party must not be allowed to go into the 2023 General Elections bearing the scar of division sowed by the governor.

APC: Group welcomes postponement of national convention for Zonal Congress

In reaction to the postponement of national convention of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), a pressure group within the party known as ‘Concerned APC Stakeholders Forum’ (CASF), has expressed satisfaction with the development.

The Governor Mai Buni led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), had on Monday, after an extensive stakeholders’ meeting, transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), intimating the umpire the decision to hold zonal congresses on Saturday, 26th March, instead of the planned national convention for this Saturday.

Dr. Abdulkadir Suleiman, the Executive Secretary of CASF, in a statement on Monday, hailed the decision of the CECPC, describing it as a “right direction” for the party.

The statement also commended President Muhammad Buhari, “for always been a listening father who wants to see the APC continue his legacies in office after 2023”.

The group, while throwing its weight behind the zonal congresses scheduled for March 26 across the country, said that it would have been disastrous and a breach to the party’s constitution, if the national convention was allowed to hold before the zonal congress.

“It is like putting the cart before the horse. How on earth would they even be thinking of having the national convention before the zonal congress? It is embedded in our constitution that, there shall be offices which should be held by zonal officers and it is only the zonal congress that can produce them.

“The party conducted ward congress, local government congress and the state, where officers were elected into their respective offices. But jumping the zonal congress for national convention is akin to jumping the gun, and we are happy that the CECPC has retraced its steps and has moved the party back on right direction.

“The Buni led committee should be commended for its courage to postpone the exercise in line with the wishes of the majority of party men and women. This courageous decision alone, will go along way to position our party on the pedestrian of victory, unity and peace”, the statement said.

Dr. Suleiman stressed the need to also use the period to rally round all the aggrieved persons and bring everyone on same page, saying, the party would come to the national convention as one big and united family.

“We even wish that the convention is shifted for 6 months, to allow for genuine reconciliation of all aggrieved persons across the country and the litany of court cases resolved. So we come to Abuja united as a big indivisible family and speak with one voice”, he added.

No date has been fixed for the postponed national convention yet.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has a pressing challenge on its hands that it may not fully appreciate yet. This challenge has nothing to do with the now controversial scheduling of the party’s National Convention nor is it about the contentions on how key national party and elective positions should be zoned. The conundrum is what APC will do with the erstwhile Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Salihu Moh. Lukman, who was recently disgraced out of office when it emerged that certain governors in the north were using him to undermine the APC.

Going by his latest diatribes, Lukman has apparently spiralled into depression. The only other logical explanation for his outbursts is that he got himself hooked on some cheap cocktail of drugs that is proving destructive to his mental capacity, one that may well cause problems for the APC unless it does something to urgently rehabilitate the former DG of PGF, who now brands himself as a Freelance APC Campaigner, even though such anomalous designation is not known to the party.

His outburst that prompted this response was titled “APC Convention: Mutiny by Yahoo Yahoo Politicians,” which normally should not merit a response owing to its inanities. But from a different perspective, the piece would one day be quoted by the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party that Lukman sells his soul to. It is thus necessary to give context to the issues raised in the referenced piece so that history is not left distorted owing to a failure to answer a fool according to his words.

First, it is totally irresponsible for Lukman to refer to APC leaders as “Yahoo Yahoo Politicians”. He is by extension demarketing the entire party. These are people he rolled with daily before his treachery was discovered and properly addressed. If they are Yahoo Yahoo Politicians as he now calls them then he is himself one by association. He could have resigned his then position upon the constitution of the APC’s Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), but he stayed on and only discovered that the Committee is mutinous when it refused to do the selfish bidding of some northern governors to whom he is beholden.

Secondly, the premise of Lukman’s tirade was that some governors are working on their agenda to become president, vice-president, or secure ticket for a second term in office. The poser here is: when has it become a crime to aspire to what one is qualified for? Interestingly, the people on whose behalf Lukman is running a fool’s errand have the very same interests. He is inferring that his clients-principals have the right to aspire to these offices while other Nigerians must be criminalized for aspiring even when they are qualified. Contrary to the impression created in his write-up, his clients are the ones desperate to become president or vice-president to the detriment of the party and certainly to the peril of Nigeria.

Furthermore, there is an urgent need for Lukman and his puppet masters to note that the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) is not on the same pedestal as the CECPC. APC as a political party is envisaged in the Constitution of Nigeria and CECPC as a committee it legitimately constituted derives from the party’s own constitution, which gives it legitimacy that makes its actions known to law. PGF on the other hand is not known to law; it is at best an interest group that has no means of attaching itself to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a village association for butchers is likely better anchored in the law than PGF. This makes it perplexing that Lukman has a gripe that PGF is being snubbed by CECPC. The APC committee was not constituted to take orders from PGF, which has by the way exhausted the goodwill people had for it as a non-statutory body that arrogated the roles and took on Supreme Court role to be the final arbiter in its own case.

Equally interesting in the possibility that Lukman might be struggling with multiple personality disorder. Only last week he accused the Chairman of CECPC, Governor Mai Mala Buni of not being approachable and being hostile to interaction. But in his latest piece he accused the same Buni of relating only with “His Excellency Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and His Excellency Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State” which implies that Buni is in touch with the north, south-east and south-west. That is quite some geographical spread unless Lukman does not know what he is talking about. It is tragic that the disgraced former DG of PGF decided to rubbish the CECPC as a political Ponzi scheme because the Secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, is not at loggerheads with the chairman. This speaks to how he is so traumatized psychologically that he expects the whole world to be in crisis to suit his mood.

Not to be overlooked are the symptoms of hallucination exhibited in Lukman’s tirade. He sees shadows behind every furniture in the room such that he now engages in a toxic mix of conspiracy theory that has hints of a heavy dose of hallucination. In one breath he accused Buni of hobnobbing His Excellency Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and His Excellency Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State “based on the plot to retain His Excellency Mai Mala Buni (as substantive APC chairman) and next thing he claimed the quartet are after the same thing? If the four gentlemen are interested in the same position how then can they be friends? If Dapo Abiodun is interested in a second term ticket as claimed, how did he become mixed up in chasing a presidential ticket. It is not an easy task having an insight into the mind of a troubled person.

Lukman went on to describe the running of the party’s affairs as tales by moonlight, which is unfortunate because a man who sees politics as tales by moonlight has no business being even a gate minder at the national headquarters of a political party. Yet this one wants to be the one calling the shot in the very establishment he sees as farce. The delusion that drives Lukman is sever, otherwise when did deferring to the wishes of stakeholders become dishonesty? The distortion of perception disturbing him must have come from the relativity of where Lukman stands – with emperor-governors for whom democracy is a meal ticket. He claimed that some governors are opposed to zoning because they know that their aspirations in the 2023 elections would be over if certain party positions are zoned to their geo-political zones. If any governors are opposed to zoning and they made it known Lukman should have been specific in mentioning name so that one would not conclude that he is hearing voices.

All doubts that this man is dealing with a severe case of emotional dissonance are laid to reast when one considers that he still ludicrously talking of the convention being five days away when stakeholders are resolute on shifting the date to buy time for undoing the damages done by his principals. He was even questioning why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be considered in requesting a date change. INEC’s presence as observer at a political party’s convention is a matter of the law and if the electoral body has other fish to fry by way of a bye-election it must attend to there is nothing anyone can do about that. But the disgraced DG of PGF would rather have it differently as he would prefer to hold a convention that would be invalidated by INEC’s absence, which would be consistent with the objective he has in mind of destroying the APC.

Additionally, it would be interesting to know what standard Lukman applied to arrive at the conclusion that Mai Mala Buni, Yahaya Bello, Hope Uzodinma, Dapo Abiodun, Uzor Kalu and some few others are dishonest people must be punished. His clients, even as fellow state governors as the aforementioned, rate nowhere near these men when integrity is the subject of discourse. It is up to these men to take Lukman to task for impugning their integrity. But he may yet be correct because there has been a mess and APC must punish offenders. It is those that have pitched the party against itself that must be sanctioned and not CECPC – Buni and Akpanudoedehe. The good work that the CECPC team did is what kept the APC from derailing on the scale that the PDP derailed. Lukman should rather explain the destabilisation role he is playing for the PDP and the party being put together by former President Obasanjo and the interface he has maintained for his principals with these two entities.

This is because, there is every need to come out strong against dishonest politicians within the party’s fold. But the first task is unveiling who these dishonest politicians are. A strategy for achieving this is for the APC to move against the hirelings that can lead to the big fish they are running errands for and Lukman is one hireling that has exposed himself. The party should start with him.

In conclusion, Lukman is correct that every genuine APC member and leader must join hands to rescue the party from Lukman and those he represents. His clients, the governors he is running errands for are the real Yahoo Yahoo Plus Politicians who want to continue sucking other people’s sweat and blood. In the interim, PGF should be magnanimous enough to foot the bill for Lukman to have a mental competency test. After all, their decision to sack him as the DG PGF was the trigger for his ongoing psychosis.

In the letter co-signed by Governor Mai Mala Buni and Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, the national chairman and secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CPC) respectively, the APC called on INEC to monitor the exercise accordingly.

Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday refused to order the Federal Government to release the detained Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari from custody.

Rather, the Judge ordered that the embattled Kyari should put the Federal Government on notice of the existence of the suit he instituted against it.

The suspended DCP had dragged the Federal Government before the court challenging his continued detention by an agency of government.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, Kyari sought an order of the court to immediately release him and in the alternative, the suspended DCP, who is being held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over his alleged involvement in hard drug trafficking, asked the court to admit him to bail in liberal conditions.

The judge ordered him to go and serve all processes he filed on the Federal Government.

Justice Ekwo held that all the averments and allegations made against the Federal Government are so weighty that the court must give the government opportunity to hear from it before taking any step.

He thereafter fixed February 24 for the parties to appear before him.

In the letter co-signed by Governor Mai Mala Buni and Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, the national chairman and secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CPC) respectively, the APC called on INEC to monitor the exercise accordingly.

BREAKING: Abba Kyari drags Federal Government to Court over Detention

Embattled Police Chief, Abba Kyari has dragged the Federal Government to Court over his continued detention.

Kyari is currently in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA over his involvement in a N140 million Cocaine Trafficking deal.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, Kyari is seeking an order from the court for his immediate release.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Kyari, who is currently on suspension from the force, has earlier been indicted by the FBI over his involvement in a Fraud deal with disgraced fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abass aka Hushpuppi.

The Nigerian Police Force last week, arrested Kyari and handed him over to the NDLEA after he was declared wanted.

He attempted to bribe an NDLEA agent with $61,000 in order to facilitate the release of 17 KG of seized cocaine. The agency, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, described Kyari as a member of a transnational drug ring.

He was arrested alongside four other police officers and has since been facing interrogation by NDLEA operatives.
