PDP Warns MURIC Against Inciting Religious Conflict in Taraba

0

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has been warned by the Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against inciting religious conflict in the state.

The warning came just two days after the State government urged the group to stop using itself as a tool in the hands of overzealous politicians.

The party issued the warning in a press release on Thursday in Jalingo, stating that “churches and mosques are exclusive to Christians and Muslims, respectively.”

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Andeta’rang Irammae, signed a letter cautioning the organization’s Director to refrain from making public statements that could divide the country along religious lines.

According to the party, “Professor Ishaq Akintola and his MURIC are strongly advised to appreciate the peculiarities of Taraba State and stop fanning the embers of hatred and caustic tendencies.”

Other spheres of human endeavors, according to the party, “are common hubs for practitioners of the two religions,” stating that “they go to the same markets with all the variants of economic vicissitudes, same depravities, and are victims of insecurity, inflation, and other social malaise.”

“Professor Ishaq’s diversionary, destructive, and distractive antics do not reflect the mood of the people of Taraba State, who have coexisted in a consciousness of brotherhood and collective desire for peace,” the statement continued.

“It is a well-known fact that a fanatic is unconcerned about fact and reality,” he said.

“What matters to a fanatic is victory of his belief and illusions,” according to the PDP, “and most dangerously when fanaticism is woven around ego and mundane biases, the people are already doomed.”

The party stated that “extreme intolerance that borders on fanaticism is alien baggage that Ishaq desperately wants to dump on Taraba State,” urging “Professor Ishaq and his cohorts to spare the people of Taraba State the pain of self-destruction.”

Peter Obi: Leadership Failure Taking Huge Toll On Nigeria

0

Former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, believes that for Nigeria to truly develop, it must ensure that the right people are in positions of leadership.

He made the remarks during a speech to course 4 participants in the strategic management and policy course at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja on Wednesday.

He also believes that there is a need to address waste in the public sector.

Obi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, said the country must also address the high cost of governance at all levels while developing policies to create public wealth.

“Public wealth benefits everyone, but private wealth depletes the people and the country,” he said.

“Whether we agree or disagree, leadership failure is wreaking havoc on our country, and it could get even worse if we don’t put the right and committed people in charge of critical sectors.”

“My main goals were education, health, and basic infrastructure provision, and I was able to achieve them because we planned our programs using a universally certified development formula.”

Persons in positions of power, he continued, must pledge to ensure good governance and responsible management of public resources in the public interest.

When it comes to pensioners being owed money, he says that “owing people at a time when opportunities are scarce is the worst thing you can do to them.”

He also addressed Nigeria’s debt situation, saying that while borrowing is not inherently bad, it must be used for production rather than consumption.

Osun 2022: INEC Begins Ad-Hoc Staff Training, Deploys More CVR Machines

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that training of ad-hoc staff for the 2022 gubernatorial election in Osun State will begin soon.

The Corps members’ training will begin in their various Community Development Service (CDS) groups and will last until a few weeks before the election, according to the Commission.

The electoral umpire also stated that it was prepared to deploy registration machines to all wards across the state in order to facilitate the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) process ahead of the gubernatorial and general elections in Osun State.

Prof. Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji, the Osun INEC Residential Electoral Commissioner (REC), stated this in Osogbo on Tuesday while hosting the leadership of the Osun Online Media Practitioners Association.

Raji advised residents to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration to register or transfer their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to polling units near their homes as part of the state’s preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial election.

According to the Osun REC, the commission created new polling units in Osun State to reduce the number of voters in units with large populations.

“By the end of March, we will have completed the State’s continuous voter registration.” However, by the end of March, we will have deployed additional machines, at least one per ward.

“We want residents of the state to use the CVR’s registration window to register or transfer to polling units closer to their homes.” To decongest polling units, new polling units were created.

“In addition, unlike in the past, when we would begin training our ad hoc staff days before elections, we will begin training corps members, who make up a larger percentage of our ad hoc staff, in May.” This will help them become more familiar with our machines and reduce the number of failures we have on election day,” he said.

Cancel the Imo by-election within 48 hours or face mass action

0

On Thursday, the Orlu Political Action Committee, OPAC, demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, cancel the Ngor Okpala bye-election outright within 48 hours.

Failure to do so, according to the socio-political group, would invite widespread outrage.

Barr. Nnamdi Maduka, the group’s Publicity Secretary, said President Muhammadu Buhari should summon Hope Uzodinma to order in a statement released in Owerri.

“The impression Imo people get is that all of Hope Uzodinma’s atrocities in Imo State go unpunished because of the cover he gets from Aso Rock,” OPAC said.

“The President owes it to the people of Imo to prevent Uzodinma from destroying the state’s democracy.” As a result, President Buhari must show that he never endorsed the heinous electoral fraud perpetrated in Ngor Okpala by Uzodinma and his henchmen.

“We demand that the Inspector General of Police arrest and prosecute all Uzodinma’s agents, cronies, allies, and henchmen, as well as APC chieftains, who were involved in the heinous abductions, shootings, mayhem, and electoral fraud that marred the Ngor Okpala bye-election.”

“As a first step toward resolving the situation, we demand that INEC cancel the Ngor Okpala bye-election outright within 48 hours.” Failure to do so will provoke widespread outrage and massive action by the people of Imo State.”

“What was supposed to be a seamless, peaceful, credible, transparent, and hitch-free state constituency by-election was reduced to total warfare.” Ballot boxes were snatched from private residences of Uzodinma’s agents and hotel rooms by APC chieftains aided by truckloads of security operatives and militiamen, ad hoc INEC officials were massacred, and results were written at private residences of Uzodinma’s agents and hotel rooms as well. This is an indescribable level of anomie.

“On February 26, 2022, the Imo people awoke to yet another attack on our cherished democratic values when Hope Uzodinma unleashed his appointees and loyalists on Ngor Okpala with armed men to perpetrate mind-boggling electoral fraud,” he claimed.

The group expressed deep concern about the outbreak of violence and electoral fraud in Ngor Okpala.

OPAC stated that if the travesty was allowed to stand, the far-reaching consequences would be costly and harmful to Nigerian democracy as a whole.

When members of the Association, led by Alhaji Ahmad Hussaini Matawallen Tudun-Wada, paid him a courtesy visit at the party’s State secretariat, the chairman gave the charge.

Danfulani lamented that the Fulani community had been degraded due to ignorance or deliberate connotation, with everyone continuing to brand them as bandits.

He explained that no tribe is without criminals in its midst, and that it is the responsibility of the MACBAN leaders to sensitize their members to continue to exhibit the positive characteristics for which they are known.

He urged those involved in banditry to repent of their criminal activities and return to their legitimate pursuits.

“Those who see the Fulani people in a negative light will see the truth,” he added, “while Fulani youths will want to go to school, get educated, and contribute meaningfully to societal growth.”

FCT: Kwali chairmanship polls rape on democracy – Haruna

Alhaji Haruna Pai Mohammed, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the FCT Chairmanship elections on February 12, 2022, has described the election in Kwali Area Council as a rape on democracy.

He also asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to annul the results, claiming that the process had been marred by large-scale irregularities.

Mohammed also called for harsh punishments against some traditional rulers who were accused of openly partisanship during the election by influencing voters at polling stations.

He went on to say that monarchs, as custodians of the people’s culture, should remain neutral while acting as fathers to election candidates in accordance with constitutional provisions.

Alhaji Haruna made the remarks to a group of journalists in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Tuesday as they discussed the results of the FCT elections.

Haruna was narrowly defeated in the election by incumbent Kwali Chairman Danladi Bomboi Chiya of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“What happened in Kwali Area Council on February 12 was nothing but madness,” the candidate claims, adding that “the APC did not win any area council election in the just concluded FCT elections, It was not an election but rape on democracy.”

Some people, he said, are clamoring for war, but they haven’t considered who will lose if one tribe attacks another in a fit of rage.

“Are we supposed to kill each other as brothers because of the election?” There are Hausas, Bassas, Gwaris, and other tribes who have been peacefully intermarrying for a long time.

“What happened on election day demonstrated a lack of understanding of what democracy should be among many people.”

He emphasized that democracy is government by the people, for the people, and by the people, and that interest groups interfering in elections should not be allowed to do so in every election so that the country’s democracy can grow.

“I urge INEC to review the election results and call off the Kwali election,” he said. We will, however, appeal the results to the Election Tribunal.”

FG has approved Abba Kyari’s extradition request

The Federal Government has approved the request by the United States of America, for suspended Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, to be extradited

The US had demanded Kyari’s extradition in April, 2021, over his alleged involvement in the $1.1million wire fraud by Abass Ramon, aka Hushpuppi.

The approval for his extradition was made known by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) after he filed an application before the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The application marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 was filed under the Extradition Act.

Malami said he was satisfied that the offence in respect of Kyari is not political nor is it trivial.

The AGF noted that the request for the surrender of Kyari was not intended to persecute or punish him on account of his race, religion, nationality or political opinions but in good faith and the interest of justice.

The AGF stated that having regard to all the circumstances in which the offence was committed, it will not be unjust to surrender the suspended ACP.

He noted that there was no criminal proceeding pending against Kyari in Nigeria for the same offence.

Recall that in April 2021, with the approval of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, the US Embassy requested for Kyari’s extradition.

Meanwhile, Kyari’s bail was struck out by a Federal High Court, Abuja, till the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, concludes its investigation on his alleged involvement in international drug trafficking.
