Buhari’s APC Chairmanship Candidate Receives N10 Million Donation

Senator Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa State has received a ten million naira donation to help him campaign for the APC national chairmanship.

According to our reporter President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed the former state governor for the position.

Dr Kassim Muhammed Kassim, the chairman of the Council of All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders in Nasarawa State, said in a statement on Sunday that the group had raised N10 million from North-Central stakeholders to buy nomination and expression of interest forms for Adamu.

Kassim told journalists in Lafia that the donation was made to show solidarity with Adamu and to say “thank you” for establishing high institutions in the state during his time as governor, which allowed them to pursue higher education.

He urged those who claimed to be supporters of the president but disagreed with his decision to reconsider.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdulmuminin Kabir Usman, the Emir of Katsina, has revealed why he is backing Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the presidency.

Usman said he is backing Tinubu for president in 2023 because the presidential candidate helped him in a variety of ways when he was a district head.

Given their long-standing relationship, the monarch said he will contribute to the former Lagos governor’s campaign and advise him as needed.

Last Friday, he revealed this when he received members of the Arewa Organizations Movement for Asiwaju, led by Senator Abu Ibrahim, at his Katsina palace.

“We will look into whatever movement he is involved in, and we will support where necessary and correct where necessary,” he said. Tinubu was governor when I was district head, and he has helped me in numerous ways. Tell me why I should disown him now that I am on the throne and he is running for president.

“So, Tinubu, the man you brought here, he is a son of the soil, and he has done a lot for me.” I was in Lagos three weeks ago for the first time since 1967, and I saw how the city has changed, and I came to the conclusion that Lagos holds all of the country’s wealth.”

SERAP warns Buhari to investigate refinery spending or face litigation.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), has been asked by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, and anti-corruption agencies to investigate the spending on the country’s four refineries.

The organization also requested that the president order an investigation into allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public funds budgeted for refinery rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance since 1999.
If the president does not comply, SERAP has threatened to sue him, according to a statement released on Sunday.

According to the statement, SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, wrote this to Buhari and Malami in a letter dated March 5, 2022.

“Investigating and prosecuting allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the refinery spending would be entirely consistent with constitutional guarantees and international standards,” the letter reads in part.
It could also help your government’s anti-corruption efforts gain public support.

“Alleged
corruption and mismanagement in the oil sector, as well as the importation and distribution of dirty fuel and long-term fuel scarcity, amount to a fundamental violation of Nigerians’ constitutional and international human rights obligations, depriving them of economic opportunities and subjecting them to cruel and degrading treatment.”

“We would appreciate it if the suggested actions were taken within 7 days of receiving and/or publishing this letter.
If we have not received a response by then, SERAP will consider taking legal action to compel your government to comply with our request in the public interest.

“SERAP also urges you to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to jointly track and monitor public funds spent to rehabilitate, operate, and maintain the country’s refineries.

“SERAP is concerned that fuel scarcity in several parts of the country has put many Nigerians in difficult economic and social circumstances, preventing them from developing their skills and realizing their potential.”

2023: Group to hold one-million-woman rally for Funmi Ayinke

0

As the 2023 presidential election edges closer, the clamour for Nigeria’s first female president has continued to gather momentum.

Further pushing this agenda are a group of concerned women across the country who have tipped renowned philanthropist, Amb Funmi Ayinke for the job.

Led by its convener Princess Uju Chukwu, the group have pledged to hold a one-million-woman rally in solidarity with their fellow woman.

According to a statement signed by Princess Uju, as the name implies, women in their numbers from the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory will participate in the mass action.

She said the women are united in a common course; a female presidency and Ayinke as their preferred choice.

Uju said Ayinke was selected from a strong list that consisted of nine other distinguished women who have not only excelled in their professional careers but shown competence, capacity and capability to govern.

Of the 10, she noted that Ayinke had an edge due to her philanthropy, humanitarian and selfless services.

“If it has happened in Liberia, Malawi and Tanzania, we believe Nigeria is ripe for a female president. Now is the perfect time,” Uju said.

“Women are no longer begging to be included anymore, no. Rather they want to take over the helms of affairs.

“Ayinke is our choice. She ticks all the boxes; young, visionary and selfless. She is an accomplished professional who has carved a niche for herself in the engineering sector and would definitely transform the nation if she emerges president.

“Yes, she wasn’t the only choice. There were over 50. We narrowed the list to 10 and ultimately Ayinke was picked by the overwhelming majority of our selection committee members.

“At the last polls, it was gathered that over 40 per cent of the actual voters were women. However, this isn’t reflected in the representation that we get”.

Uju, therefore, urged other women to join the movement, noting that this is for the future of their daughters.

She added that if these over 40 per cent of the country’s voters can settle for a fellow woman, then Ayinke can emerge.

Uju, however, appealed to Ayinke to publicly declare her interest in the presidency.

She also urged females from all works of life to join the one-million-woman rally.

EPL: I will quit Liverpool in 2024 – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has confirmed that he will leave the club in 2024.

Klopp claims that he will only consider staying if he has the energy to do so.

The German has been at Anfield for six and a half years and recently won the Carabao Cup.

Under the former Borussia Dortmund manager, the Reds have also won the Champions League and Premier League.

Klopp’s current contract was signed in December 2019, but there will be no further extensions as of now.

“It’s important if I have the energy levels for it.” I enjoy what I do, but there must be something else out there in the world besides constantly thinking about extremely talented, attractive, and delightfully nice players! But I don’t give it much thought.

“I’m bursting with energy, but I need to double-check that” (in the future). I don’t want to be tired and think to myself, “Wow!” Why is everyone so concerned about what’s going on in the world when I couldn’t care less?” Klopp remarked.

Tourism Operators Pleading Marriott To Bring Iconic St. Regis Brand To Nigeria

Following the announcement that the hotel chain plans to open in the United Kingdom, some tourism operators in Nigeria want Marriott International to bring St. Regis to Nigeria. Marriott International, Inc. announced the signing of a management agreement with Cola Holdings and The Westbury Hotel Limited to bring the luxury St. Regis brand to the United Kingdom. The new entrant, which is located in one of London’s most enticing neighborhoods, is expected to open in 2023.

By 2025, St. Regis will open 11 new resorts around the world. The announcement was made at a recent Marriot Virtual Press Briefing, which was hosted by Satya Anand, President, EMEA and Senior Vice President, Design Hotels & EMEA Brand Portfolio, who also gave a rundown of some of Marriott’s outstanding openings this year.

The Nigerian operators expressed their delight, saying that if the prestigious St. Regis is represented in Nigeria on a franchise basis, business travelers will have the best time possible. According to them, the newly opened Marriott property in Ikeja, Lagos, is already delivering results after the agreement was signed.

Chioma Egu, an event planner from Lagos, applauds the move, saying, “St. Regis is a few luxury away.” She wants Marriott to bring the brand to Nigeria so that it can compete in the thriving Lagos hotel market.

“At this time, the St. Regis brand is not represented in Nigeria. “We anticipate the cherished St. Regis brand debuting in Nigeria,” she exclaimed. “Not only will the anticipated St. Regis Hotel add more beds to the competitive Lagos market, but it will undoubtedly be well received by the executives,” Egu continued.

Ibiso Lawal, another tourism operator in the country, is counting on Marriott to provide more beds. Ibiso, a Nigerian travel expert, urged Regis Hotels & Resorts to bring the ‘leader in luxury’ here while commenting on Marriot International’s new achievement.

“I believe their policy goes beyond purely commercial gains, however important they may be. The St. Regis brand will be noticeable. I’d be delighted if Marriott managed a St. Regis hotel in Nigeria so that Nigerians could experience the luxury brand,” he said.

“Nigeria has hotels,” he asserts. We have brands like Sheraton, Hilton, and Golden Tulip, to name a few. Which hotel chain is not represented in Nigeria, is the question. However, we would like to see more saleable rooms in the upmarket segment. Marriott International is already causing a stir in Lagos. We want the St. Regis, just like Oliver Twist, and you know what that means for the Nigerian accommodation market: lower rates.”

Insiders in the travel industry want more sellable rooms in the upmarket segment of the Abuja and Lagos hotel industry to lower rates. Price control has been difficult in the past. Lagos has one of the highest hotel rates in the world. When it comes to hotel rates, Lagos Tourism has a bad track record. The cost of a hotel room in Lagos remains high. Guestroom rates at Sun Heaven Hotels & Resorts in Ikoyi, Lagos, for example, range from N45,000 to N150.000 per night.

Eko Hotels & Suites, a Lagos hotel, has higher rates that range from N69,000 to N300.000 per night (Eko Signature).

The problem is market forces, a demand-supply mismatch in which more guests are looking for a few standard guestrooms. As a result, the prices for the sellable rooms are extremely high.

“Nigeria has hotels and more are coming,” said Illan Ben-Joseph, a MASHAV expert from Israel, earlier on the topic of hotels. People should be concerned about budget hotels, he said. “The majority of hotels in Nigeria are located in Lagos. What happened to places like Jos, where good hotels are hard to come by? “The government should provide tax relief to entrepreneurs who develop hotels and attractions in specific areas,” Ben-Joseph said.

Meanwhile, the St. Regis brand continues to expand its renowned global portfolio with the addition of this highly sought-after Mayfair address. The former Westbury Mayfair Hotel will undergo a $122 million (90 million pound) redevelopment and transformation, including the addition of an eighth floor.

On the corner of Bond Street and Conduit Street, the St. Regis London, which has 196 rooms and suites, is offering a highly personalized guest experience that will blend the brand’s modern glamour with the best of British style and service.

The hotel will be designed by Morrison Design’s Peter Newman-Earp, with interiors by Richmond International. In addition, the property will receive an extension to the back of the hotel, resulting in improved public areas, as well as renovations to the building’s façade and the drop-off area outside the main entrance. A signature restaurant, speakeasy jazz bar, fitness center, and spa are all in the works.

The iconic Polo Bar, originally designed for the Phipps family of America, avid polo players and creators of the Westbury Hotel in New York and London, will be retained at the St. Regis London, where guests will be able to enjoy a local twist on the St. Regis’ signature cocktail, the Bloody Mary.

Major General Jafaru Mohammed’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, has threatened to sue a national newspaper over a report on an EFCC case.

The Army General had been accused of fraud and property purchases while working for the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Mohammed’s name was tarnished, according to Ikpeazu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), after a Federal High Court verdict was miscommunicated.

Following an ex parte application by the EFCC, Justice Nkeonye Evelyn Maha handed down the decision in February.

According to the commission, the late General Aminu Maude, his proxies, and associates amassed N3 billion in assets from illegal activities.

“I noted that the name of General Jafaru Mohammed was never mentioned in the ex parte application, and the respondent (EFCC) did not dispute this.”

The judge stated, “It is clear that General Jafaru is not on trial here, and the Court has not been asked to decide his guilt or innocence in this case.”

Ikpeazu claimed that one aspect of the ruling’s coverage, in which the forfeited properties were linked to his client, was false and malicious.

If there is no retraction, the SAN says they will be forced to file a defamation suit in any appropriate court.

“The pictorial representation conveys false information that our client is represented by Late General Aminu Muade, Atlasfield Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, Marhaba Events Place, Aflac Plastics, and Atlasfield Gas Plant Limited.”

“This allegation is not made in the judgment or in the press releases issued by Wilson Uwujaren, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Public Relations Officer.

“This defamatory and malicious publication has severely harmed our client’s reputation and good name among his peers, family members, associates, and colleagues, all of whom revere and respect him.”

Ikpeazu demanded that a letter of apology be published in ten print and online newspapers, claiming that the story was an attempt to smear Mohammed’s reputation.

On Saturday in Kaduna, a dismissed police officer, Sergeant Muhammed Kadade, chastised the Federal Government and those who have expressed interest in confronting Russia in the current war against Ukraine, urging them to address banditry in Nigeria first.

Ukraine had requested that anyone interested in assisting in the ongoing conflict contact the Ukrainian embassy in their home country. The embassy in Abuja has been besieged by over 100 Nigerians.

Many Nigerians and critics, on the other hand, have advised them to first combat banditry and insurgency in Nigeria.

On Saturday in Kaduna, Kadade said that Nigeria is not a serious country because everything is politicized.

He claims that the country has brilliant officers and men who, if given free reign, would eliminate all criminals in a week, but there are indications that bandits, insurgents, and criminal elements were created by politicians seeking more power.

He wondered how poor people developed wings to buy sophisticated weapons to assassinate prominent, intelligent, young, and promising future leaders.

According to him, the current government has never sought the advice of retired military and paramilitary personnel in the fight against insurgents.

If he went after insurgents, he said, experienced and brilliant military personnel would be discouraged and targeted for elimination.

“We live in a country where the government is unconcerned about the well-being of its citizens. Politicians have created banditry and other criminal activities in Nigeria. The majority of the criminals are from a specific Nigerian Local Government. Local residents, senators, and members of the House of Representatives are all familiar with them. They are known by their respective communities’ traditional rulers. They are much more aware of their surroundings than a neutral observer. These criminals can be brought to justice. If they want to ensure that their communities are free of criminals, they can expose them. Nobody, however, is saying anything. “They only pretended to cry crocodile tears,” he said.

Before the federal government comes to help, he added, the fight against criminals must begin in the state’s villages, communities, and large towns.

“However, you will hear the community crying and the state shouting, and all they can do is run to Abuja to demonstrate their crocodile tears, knowing exactly what they are doing in their respective states,” he said.

Nigerians, he claims, are highly intelligent, skilled, and well-versed in criminality and deception, whereas most European countries are very straightforward and have no hidden agenda in their dealings with other nations.

“As far as I know, Boko Haram, or bandits,” he said, “is a child’s game compared to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”

The Lagos State Government has responded to a video showing kegs of gasoline being given away as souvenirs at a Lagos event center. On social media, the video has gone viral. “Erelu Okin chietaincy installation ceremony” is written on each keg.

There is no doubt that this action is dangerous and can result in the loss of lives and property, according to a statement signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy. It goes against all safety precautions in such places.

As he stated, the Lagos State Government is investigating this matter through the Safety Commission and will ensure that all parties involved in this heinous act are held accountable.

“The safety of Lagosians and visitors remains a top priority for the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration,” he added. As a result, we advise that actions that could result in the loss of lives or property be avoided.”

Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist, has stated that the government cannot prevent the circulation of illegal firearms or terrorists from purchasing gasoline for their operations.

It was recalled that in September 2021, restrictions were imposed in Zamfara State to reduce the activities of bandits in the state.

In an interview for the documentary “Nigeria’s Banditry: The Inside Story,” the notorious terrorist spoke with Trust TV.

Last year, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ordered all telecommunications companies in the country to stop providing services to Zamfara and its environs.

Several raids in the state were reported to have killed many bandit leaders and their foot soldiers during the restriction.

“It is not right to deny Fulani entry into Shinkafi; it is a local government for all citizens,” Turji says. Where are the Fulani supposed to go if you deny them entry?”

He explained that if someone buys just a measure of maize, it is confiscated; if he or she buys a loaf of bread, they will say you are buying it for Turji, implying that Turji is the only one who eats.
