BRT Driver Recounts Last Moments Of Murdered Passenger

0

The incident that resulted in the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwole, a 22-year-old woman, was described by the driver of a Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle.

The bus driver, identified as Andrew Nice by the police, claimed his bus was robbed at gunpoint by unknown individuals.

Nice revealed this in a video clip shared on Monday night on Twitter by Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

The suspect, who claimed innocence in the video, stated that he had no involvement in the death of the fashion designer and was only acting on the orders of their abductors, who held him and Bamise hostage in the bus.

Nice claimed he fled because the circumstances surrounding Bamise’s death overwhelmed him.

“When those guys showed me their weapons, I couldn’t be myself anymore,” he said of what happened on the bus. Fear overtook me, and all I did was obey the orders of the man with the gun who sat next to me.

“I followed the Carter Bridge until I reached the overhead bridge, where they told me to come to a halt.” And when they told me to stop and asked me to open the door, her assailants appeared and began dragging her off the bus.

“I was helpless when I saw her crying for help, and I had assumed she was still in the bus, clutching one of the irons that could keep her in the bus.” I moved on in that process and with that thought. And that is just the truth.”

The body of a 22-year-old woman who went missing after boarding a Lagos Bus Rapid Transit vehicle was discovered with some body parts missing on Monday, according to reports.

On February 26, Ayanwole went missing while returning to Ota from Ajah, when she boarded a BRT bus with the number 240257 heading to Oshodi at Chevron Bus-Stop around 7 p.m.

When the victim, who worked as a fashion designer in Ajah and spent her weekends in Ota, Ogun State, with her sister, sensed danger in the bus, she sent some voice notes to a friend.

Nice was arrested in connection with her death after her body was discovered on Monday by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.

Today, Tuesday, March 8, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State will hold its gubernatorial primary election.
According to reports, security agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps have issued warnings to voters and aspirants involved in the process.

The State Police Command has warned politicians in the PDP to conduct themselves during and after the election in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2022, after assuring the party of its commitment to ensuring a peaceful election.

Commissioner of Police, in a statement made available to newsmen earlier today by Yemisi Opalola, the command’s Public Relations Officer in Osogbo, stated that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies in the state, will ensure that all aspirants and eligible electorates/delegates can exercise their franchise on an equal footing.

While implying that the Command had taken necessary security measures to avoid a possible breakdown of law and order, Olokode stated that security agencies will not hesitate to deal harshly with anyone or group of people who attempt to cause trouble or disrupt the election’s smooth running.

“As the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for today, Tuesday, March 8th, 2022, gains momentum, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, CP Olawale Olokode, wishes to assure the general public, especially the good people of Osun State, of adequate security before, during, and after the PDP governorship primary election,” he said, urging politicians to play the game as stipulated by the Electoral Act, 2010.

“The State’s Police and other security agencies will provide a level playing field for all aspirants and eligible electorates/delegates to exercise their franchise, while we will not hesitate to deal decisively and within the bounds of the law with anyone, group of persons, who might try to foment trouble or disrupt the election’s smooth conduct.”

Olokode also addressed parents and guardians, urging them to warn their children and wards about staying out of trouble during the election period and beyond.

According to him, thuggery, gangsterism, and hooliganism will not be tolerated by the command.

“They must not allow themselves to be used by any vicious politician to create a crisis in the State,” he warned, adding that “the command will not tolerate any kind of thuggery, gangsterism, or hooliganism.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has stated that a robust security arrangement is in place in the State ahead of the PDP gubernatorial congress to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The Osun NSCDC Commandant, Emmanuel Ocheja, was quoted by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Atanda Olabisi, as saying in a directive that all officers on special duty at the congress venue will discharge their duties impartially.

As the country grapples with current security challenges, Commandant Ocheja emphasized the importance of officers being committed to their jobs.

Niger State Governor Sani Abubakar Bello has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “let bygones be bygones.”

He stated that party leaders must put their swords away and get their houses in order before the elections in 2023.

On Monday, the governor declared himself as the APC’s acting National Chairman.

He made the call to the APC leaders during a meeting in which he addressed the party’s state chairmen.

Governor Bello stated, “By the time you return, you will have united the party in your various States.”

“Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, You must bring everyone together, both those who support you and those who oppose you.

“What we want in your various States is a united, unified APC, because we have elections coming up, and we hope and pray that by God’s grace, we will have a better result in 2023 than we did in 2019,” Bello charged the State party leaders.

On Monday, Bello resumed his duties as the ruling party’s acting Chairman, but he was met with fierce opposition from Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni’s camp.

According to the report, an attempt to remove Buni as chairman of the APC’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) failed.

On Monday, it was reported that President Buhari had approved Buni’s removal from the CECPC and had replaced him with Bello.

However, after being confronted with the legal implication of the president usurping the powers of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC), the only body that can sack Buni or the CECPC, Bello, who addressed some of the party’s internal issues at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, was forced to back down.

He was then forced to accept that he was only in charge of the CECPC meeting because Buni was not present.

ASUU Demands Withdrawal Of Gov. El-Rufai’s Degree By Kaduna Govt

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria branch, has petitioned the university’s Senate to revoke Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna State’s degree certificate.

ASUU claimed that many of Governor El-actions Rufai’s were in violation of the character and learning requirements for an Ahmadu Bello University degree.

Haruna Jibril, the Chairperson of ASUU, ABU Zaria branch, addressed newsmen in Kaduna at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Mando, Kaduna, and lamented that Governor Nasiru El-desperate Rufai’s attempt to take over the College’s land was an affront and insult to Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna’s indelible legacy to public education.

“Unfortunately, we are here once again to inform you of the Kaduna State Government’s encroachment into Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) lands, covering 196.258 hectares, located at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science (Mando), by the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of El-Rufai,” he said.

When one considers what the Governor did to residents of Kaduna State who built houses around Al-Hudahuda College and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, on the grounds that the lands belonged to the colleges, he said it was despicable.

He went on to say that the action implies a clear double standard and a mind set on destroying without justification.

He recalled that on January 13, 2022, their Union issued a press release warning the Governor of Kaduna State to stop what they described as “this callousness and unlawful takeover” of ABU’s Zaria property.

Rather than heeding the warning, he said, “he (Governor El-Rufai) went ahead and destroyed the College wall and several trees.” Despite a Subsisting Interim Court Order restraining the Governor and the State Attorney General, their servants, agents, and privies from further entering and trespassing on the said land, which was duly served on them, the trees were destroyed using bulldozers of the Kaduna State Urban Development Authority (KASUPDA) under the watchful eye of over one hundred well-armed security personnel, using bulldozers of the Kaduna State Urban Development Authority (

He went on to say that Justice K. Dabo of the Federal High Court in Zaria granted the court order on January 18, 2022.

According to ASUU, the University’s solicitors sent a letter to the Directors General of KASUPDA and Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) on February 14, 2022, warning the Governor and his agents to stop trespassing and destroying the land or face legal action.

prosecute him and his ruthless agents for contempt of court.

“The action of the Kaduna State Government, led by Governor El-Rufai, is at best sadistic and in clear conflict with Section 49 (1) and (2) of the Land Use ACT, Cap L5 LFN, 2004, which exempts Federal Government lands from management and control by State Governors,” he claimed.

ASUU urged the general public to examine the provisions of the ACT in order to comprehend the Governor’s level of lawlessness.

NNPC Earns N348.63 Million From Oil, Gas Exports, Resulting In 352% Surplus

In September 2021, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) earned N348.63 million from crude oil and gas exports, resulting in a 353 percent trade surplus.

In September, the trading surplus was N37.50 million, compared to N8.29 million in August.

The increase in trading surplus was largely due to increased earnings of NNPC’s upstream subsidiary, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, according to figures in the September 2021 NNPC Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR) (NPDC).

After deducting the expenditure profile from the revenue in the period under consideration, the trading surplus or deficit is calculated.

As a result, in September 2021, the NNPC Group’s operating revenue decreased by 29.87 percent, or N191.90 billion, to N450.45 billion, compared to August 2021. Similarly, expenditure fell by 34.87 percent, or N221.11 billion, to N412.92 billion for the month.

In the month under review, expenditure as a percentage of revenue was 0.92 percent, down from 0.99 percent the previous month.

According to the report, total Crude Oil and Gas export receipts in September 2021 were $348.63 million, up from $224.29 million in August 2021.

Crude oil receipts totaled $8.38 million, while gas and other receipts totaled $55.25 million and $285.00 million, respectively.

Nigeria’s Education Sector Must Be Saved From Total Collapse

I recently heard, among many other things, that funding education has become a crushing burden that the government alone can no longer bear around the world. To this group, it is suggested that a private public-private partnership be formed, as well as support from good-hearted individuals, come to the rescue. During this time, I’ve also read an argument that our educational system, like all educational systems, is flawed. They went on to say that the educational system in the United States is flawed, and that if there is no flaw in any system, there will be no improvement. They came to the conclusion that what we call a flaw is a challenge, and that this is the foundation of development. To the rest, our educational system is not flawed; it is still one of the most sound and well-regarded systems in the world.

Regardless of what you hear or read in the news, this piece believes that the Nigerian education sector has had a difficult and bumpy ride. Even the country’s democratic practice, contrary to popular belief, has not been able to alleviate the pangs of challenges faced by Nigerians in the sector.
While it is not surprising that there are more non-learners in school than out of school in Nigeria – especially given that the world agrees that schooling does not always lead to learning – the ongoing one-month warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to ensure the government stops reneging on agreements with the union has made it clear that the nation’s public unrest is growing.

Apart from the fact that this is the second strike in less than two years, and the fact that the system continues to stifle the ambitions and aspirations of our youths, who will provide the country’s future leadership needs, there are a number of factors that characterize the current events as a troubling reality.

The strike occurred just days after President Muhammadu Buhari, while receiving members of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) led by the Co-Chairs, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Revd. (Dr.) Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, in Abuja, promised that the Federal Government would keep promises made to the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The second comes from Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), who, in a reported interview with Channels Television, not only contradicted but also proved the above pledge to be untrue. He’religiously’ explained how the FG has gained a reputation for breaking promises.

“They have been promising us for the past nine years or so,” he says, “but once the strike is over, they relapse.” While noting that his colleagues are tired of promises that aren’t kept, he went on to say that what they want are actions, noting that the union has sacrificed for the country’s educational system, and concluding that ASUU will not back down on the current strike because the Federal Government has a reputation for not keeping its promises.
If the time-honored aphorism that considers education as the bedrock of development is anything to go by, and if the age-old belief that, with sound educational institutions, a country is as good as made -as the institutions will turn out all-rounded manpower to continue with the development of the society driven by well-thought out ideas, policies, programs, and projects remains a valid argument, then we all have reasons not only to be optimistic but also to be pessimistic

The first lays out the dilemma posed by the government’s underfunding of public universities, which, as a result, obstructs lecturers from conducting scholarly research, truncates academic calendars with strike actions, and laces Nigerian universities with dilapidated and overstretched learning facilities, with the universities producing graduates devoid of linkage with the manpower demand by the nation’s industrial sect.

The second challenge stems from the first, but it focuses more specifically on the school authorities’ rash demand for fees of varying amounts—a development that is financially squeezing the innocent students and their parents.

This practice’s conundrum and threat indicate a significantly higher risk. And unless the government commits resources to addressing the root of the problem, the potential consequences could be far worse than other issues currently plaguing the education sector.

One fact that the Federal Government failed to remember is that when human beings develop a higher order of thinking through sound education, society gains an advantage in being able to anticipate emerging threats, as they gain the ability to conceptualize rather than just perceiving. However, if they are unable to acquire or deny the need, they will gain the ability to conceptualize an imaginary threat, and if a group of people is persuaded to conceptualize this imaginary threat, the fear response will be activated as powerfully as if the real threat were present.
This fact helps to explain some of the recent fears and insecurity that have engulfed the country. It’s also a sign of a government that hasn’t accepted the fact that the traditional progressive solution to a problem involving citizens’ lack of participation in civic and democratic processes is to re-focus on education, which is a highly effective strategy for addressing many societal ills, including insecurity.

To avoid all of this, governments at all levels must unlearn their progressive non-recognition of the right to education as a human right, despite their membership in a number of international conventions, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, which recognizes the right.

Above all, the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, must remember that, globally, “the relationship between employers and employees is always strained, always headed toward conflict.” It’s an inherent conflict in the system. Unions do not strike on the spur of the moment or to demonstrate their strength. Strikes are seen as costly and disruptive, particularly for workers and their families. Strikes are referred to as a “last resort.” And any government that fails to profitably manage this delicate relationship or develop a cordial relationship with the workers becomes an enemy of not only the workers, but of the open society as a whole, and such a society will sooner or later devolve into chaos.

Breaking: 2023: Kwankwaso, Dalung’s Third Force adopts NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party has been adopted by a political movement led by Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State, in order to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections.

Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi of Kaduna State, former Minister of Youths and Sports Development Solomon Dalung, popular Northern critic Buba Galadima, and other prominent Nigerians were among those in his team.

The NNPP was one of 18 political parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, according to reports.

The announcement was made by John Ifeimeje, the Interim National Chairman of the NNPP Caretaker Committee, during a press conference held after a marathon meeting in Abuja that lasted over five hours.

According to him, the movement decided to adopt the NNPP in order to save the country from the APC’s bad governance.

He said the movement had received an overwhelming response from across the country since its launch last month, adding that a large number of individuals and groups had come to the TNM national secretariat to identify with and join the movement.

“Let me use this opportunity to present to the good people of Nigeria that, in pursuit of the TNM’s objectives, we have resolved and agreed to fuse ourselves to, and adopt a political platform in order to further our struggle to rescue our country from maladministration and nepotism, incompetence and impunity, insecurity and corruption, poverty and squalor, hopelessness and despondency,” Ifeimeje said.

“As a result, the TNM and the NNPP have merged.” Because of the overwhelming similarity between the party and the TNM in terms of their aims and objectives, mission and vision, core values and core beliefs, as well as the shared patriotic tendencies of the leaders and members of both the NNPP and the TNM, members of the TNM have adopted and agreed to join the NNPP.”

TNM has already been completed, he added, with the fusion of the two platforms, and the party has already appointed caretaker committees at the state and national levels ahead of its conventions.

Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Chairman; Board of Trustees; Deputy Chairman, Hunkuyi; and Oladipo Olayoku, National Secretary, are members of the party’s national caretaker committee.
