The Nigeria Police Force has seized control of the Cross River House of Assembly, reportedly as a result of the Abuja High Court’s decision on Monday to expel two House of Representatives members and 18 Assembly members.
All approaches leading to the Assembly were shut early Tuesday, and other police detachments were stationed within the main building.
Motorists and observers struggled to get past the mob of security officers, their vans, and other onlookers.
The purpose of the roadblock, according to Cross River Police Public Relations Officer Irene Ugbo, is to preserve peace and order after Monday’s Federal High Court Abuja judgment that dismissed certain members of the House of Assembly.
In a suit no: ABJ/FHC/CS/976/21, Justice Taiwo Taiwo granted the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) petitions for the declaration of those MPs’ seats vacant for defecting from the PDP to the APC.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has made five demands of Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in relation to his detention and torture in Kenya.
Kanu was apprehended in an African country, possibly Kenya, and repatriated to the United States in June 2021.
This was due to his campaigning for Biafra’s restoration. He left Nigeria in 2017 after being granted bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court.
However, after his arrest in Kenya, the IPOB leader revealed that he was tortured and subjected to inhumane treatment.
To that end, the IPOB leader urged Malami to investigate and prosecute all those responsible for his torture, in accordance with the Anti-Torture Act of 2017.
Kanu wrote to Malami in a letter that all those who tortured him during his arrest and detention in Kenya and Nigeria should be punished.
In a letter signed by his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, he made the call, detailing his arrest and torture in Kenya and Nigeria.
Kanu also pleaded with the AGF to ensure his safety while in the Department of State Services’ custody.
“In light of the foregoing, we hereby make the following Prayers: That, in accordance with the provisions of the Anti-Torture Act, 2017, the Attorney-Office General’s take prompt measures to initiate the prosecution of all persons who were directly or indirectly culpable in the torture of our Client,” the letter says. “A person who has suffered or alleges that he has been subjected to torture shall have the right to complain to and have his case promptly and impartially examined by a competent authority,” says Section 5 of the Anti Torture Act.
“Under subsection (1), the competent authority shall take steps to protect the complainant from all ill-treatment or intimidation as a result of his complaint or any given evidence.”
“That the aforementioned prosecutorial action be taken in accordance with Section 8 of the Anti-Torture Act, which states that “a person who actually participates in the infliction of torture or who is present during the commission of the act is liable as the principal.”
“An order from a superior officer, a superior in the office, or a superior in the public authority shall not be used to justify torture.”
“Any act, omission, or negligence on the part of the immediate commanding officer of the concerned unit of the security or law enforcement agencies is held liable as an accessory to the crime for any act, omission, or negligence on his part that may have led to torture by his subordinates.”
“Finally, we draw your attention to Section 1 of the Anti-Torture Act, which states: ‘The Government shall—(a) ensure that the rights of all persons, including suspects, detainees, and prisoners, are respected at all times, and that no person placed under investigation or held in the custody of any person in authority shall be subjected to physical harm, force, violence, threat or intimidation, or any act that impairs his free will; and (b) fully implement the provisions.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been advised to abandon his presidential ambition in the interest of the Nigerian nation by the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC).
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, national president of the OYC, frowned at what he described as Atiku Abubakar’s “undue desperation” to pick the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ticket while speaking to reporters in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Monday.
While reacting to Atiku’s meeting with the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, to discuss his presidential ambitions, Comrade Igboayaka described it as a call that would lead to Nigeria’s disintegration.
“PDP can’t afford to lose the 2023 presidency,” he quoted Atiku as saying, adding that the former Vice-President should know that “if PDP dares to give him a ticket in 2023 against South-East aspirants, the party will not only lose the election, but it will be an evidential call for Nigeria’s total disintegration.”
“Atiku Abubakar should study the history of the PDP’s formation, starting with G34 led by Dr. Alex Ekwueme before it became a political party, to see that the South-East has paid the ultimate sacrifice in the PDP more than any other zone in Nigeria.”
He went on to say that people from the south-east had helped to form, build, and maintain the PDP as Africa’s largest political party.
“Atiku Abubakar’s decision to run for the PDP is a call to disrupt Nigeria’s unity and peace, and such a move will result in national political disaster, anarchy, and tribal crises, sinking Nigeria.
“If the PDP denies a presidential ticket to a South-easterner, the only thing over 50 million Igbo youths can do is vote massively for an APC presidential candidate from the South-East, and no PDP office or flag will stand erect in the South-East, from ward level to state level.” We’ll fight the PDP in the same way that Yakubu Gowon did to keep Nigeria united.
“The PDP must avoid using Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and other selfish presidential aspirants from outside the South-East to disintegrate or destabilize Nigeria’s national unity,” Igboayaka said.
“It’s derogatory that Atiku Abubakar boasted about how he used Ben Obi and Peter Obi as running mates. If any Nigerian wishes to see Nigeria as the ‘Giant of Africa,’ as proposed by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa), then it’s high time he dropped his presidential ambition and supported a credible and competent presidential aspirant from the South-East to build the Nigeria of Zik vision.”
“Atiku Abubakar must awaken his human consciousness and recognize that, of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, the South-East gave him the overwhelming majority of votes, prompting President Muhammadu Buhari’s current administration to refer to the people of the South-East as the “5 percent.” As a result, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP family owe the people of the south-east a debt of gratitude in the 2023 presidential election,” he added.
In continuation of his consultations with the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, a gubernatorial aspirant in Kaduna State, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, popularly known as Dattijo, paid a visit to the Palace of the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, in order to realize his ambition in 2023.
Dattijo is a Prince of the Zazzau Emirate, descended from the late Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dalhatu Usman Yero, of Zazzau’s Fulato-Borno ruling dynasty.
Dattijo received the blessings and prayers of the Emir of Zazzau in his Palace during the two-day consultation visit.
The Emir praised the aspirant’s leadership qualities and moral upbringing, but advised him to campaign with decorum and respect for other aspirants running for similar positions across party lines.
Dattijo had previously met with members of his extended family in Amaru, where the Walin Zazzau, Engr. Aminu Umar, offered prayers and blessings to the aspirant.
Dattijo also paid a visit to the All Progressive Congress (APC) offices in his Kwarbai A Ward and the Zaria Local Government.
Dattijo also met with party leaders and executives from the party’s 13 political wards in Zaria.
“Dattijo is our own son, so this is our project,” said Hajiya Rakiya Adamu, the APC Chairperson of Zaria Local Government.
“We will take the lead in mobilizing all of Zaria’s and beyond’s support for him.”
Dattijo also met with the chairman of the local government council, Hon Aliyu Idris Ibrahim, the member of the State House of Assembly representing Zaria Birni Constituency, Hon Suleiman Dabo, Wakilin Birnin Zazzau, and other key party stakeholders in the Zaria Local Government Area.
Dattijo’s consultations are part of the activities leading up to his official declaration of gubernatorial candidacy.
The Lagos State Government has announced the provision of alternative routes for motorists ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, will commission Buhari’s newly-built International Terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
The event will take place between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Motorists from Apapa/Oshodi will be able to use Agege Motor Road to link PWD to connect Works Road or General Adeyinka Adebayo Road to access Oba Akinjobi inward Ikeja General Hospital and connect Local Airport through the underpass, according to the state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde.
Motorists on the Agege Motor Road were also advised to use the service lanes to connect Charity and tC then make a U-turn at the Cappa/Bolade axis inwards Shogunle to access PWD and continue their journey.
Maryland/Mobolaji Bank Anthony, according to Oladeinde, will be open to motorists as a link between the Local Airport and Murtala Muhammed Airport.
Motorists can also access the airports by crossing the Third Mainland Bridge in Gbagada, which connects Ikorodu and Maryland.
The Commissioner explained that the alternative routes were determined by the event’s expected VIP movement and traffic management.
He promised that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be stationed along alternate routes to assist motorists in navigating their movements and ensure that traffic flowed freely.
On Monday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) reiterated its decision not to extend the March 26, 2022 registration deadline for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).
Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), explained that the board’s tight schedule would not allow for a date extension.
Oloyede, who spoke while monitoring the registration exercise at the Global Distance Learning Institute in Abuja, said that while 1.5 million to 1.6 million candidates have been registered so far, the final days of the exercise have seen low turnout across the country.
He noted that only one candidate showed up for registration at the center, as opposed to the usual 200, and that registration across the country had dropped to less than 20,000 two days ago, down from 70,000 to 80,000 daily registrations.
“Today is March 21, 2022; there are still five days left, and you can see how empty the CBT centers are.” So we’re telling you now so that no one has the audacity to tell us to extend on the 26th. We have about 1.5 to 1.6 million candidates registered now, so we are ready to go.
“It’s easy to see how empty the registration centers are. You only have one candidate and look at your time, despite how large and efficient this center is. As a result, it’s clear that candidates aren’t showing up, or that the number of candidates who are eligible for registration has been reached.
“We’re working on a very tight schedule because other examination bodies have their slots, and we can’t encroach on NECO, WAEC, or NABTEB’s.” We’re on a tight schedule. And that’s why we keep saying yes, because we have the capacity to register 100,000 people in a single day,” he explained.
The JAMB boss urged candidates to come out and register, noting that the board was taking the campaign to the public to draw attention to the fact that students were not showing up to register, and that there would be no appeal to the board to extend the deadline.
“And we’ve been registering seventy-eight, but now we’re registering; we registered less than 20,000 the day before yesterday.” So, we’re telling everyone who wants to register that they should do so now because there will be no extensions,” he said.
Oloyede urged the media to visit the CBT facilities in Abuja and witness the low candidate turnout for registration in the final days of the exercise.
Concerning CBT centers’ complaints about the high cost of diesel and the country’s energy problems, Oloyede said the board is attempting to open a dialogue with the NNPC, and that after due consultations, it would take action.
“They are complaining because they believe it is practically impossible to run now that we have set our charges at N700.” We are fully aware of the situation. We’re in talks with the National Nuclear Power Corporation (NNPC). We want to know what the situation is, and by God’s grace, we will address the issue once we receive appropriate advice from the NNPC.
“We are pleading with our CBT partners to be patient with us and provide efficient services to our people.” We aren’t evil; we don’t want people to panic, but we are where we are; we’ll see what we can do. “We’d do what’s necessary,” he said.
