Ohanaeze: Obi Miscalculating, Can’t Beat Tinubu in 2027

0

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, has been encouraged to drop out of the 2027 contest by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a group of the Igbo Sociocultural Organization.
In a statement released on Sunday by its deputy president general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group said that Obi lacked the political qualifications necessary to depose President Bola Tinubu.
It further stated that Obi’s interest in the 2027 election might turn the Igbo people into political lambs in Nigeria and sabotage further political endeavors.

Although the submission may be awkward, Isiguzoro continued, Ohanaeze will not back down from the harsh reality, pointing out that the Igbo people are fed up with playing opposition politics under Peter Obi’s direction.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organization, considers it our grave obligation and great responsibility to present Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, with a harsh and unsettling reality,” the statement says.

“With the highest regard and unwavering honesty, we must state that you do not now possess the political patience and the necessary brutality necessary to defeat seasoned politician and incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

“Under your leadership, it would be devastating and a serious threat to our collective life to allow the Igbo people to be seduced into poorly planned political conflicts. We might be used as political pawns in such a situation, solidifying the reputation that we are Nigeria’s most vulnerable group if you fail in your election campaign.

It is crucial to stop and consider the difficult query: why are the Igbo people in Nigeria so often treated with contempt? Can we really understand how a tribe that was once respected and revered—that had notable ancestors like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr. Michael Okpara, Dr. Francis Akanu Ibiam, and Dr. Jaja Wachuku—has been reduced from a position of prominence to one of insignificance and is now categorized as a majority within a minority? Our immediate and complete attention is required in light of this sobering reality. It’s clear that our current situation is largely the result of political miscalculations by individuals like Mr. Peter Obi. We must not be afraid to express this harsh reality: the Igbo people are tired of sluggishly enduring opposition politics for over ten years under Mr. Obi’s leadership.

In response to three Northern organizations’ questions about the possible resuscitation of the Eastern-Northern Alliance of the First Republic and their worries about Mr. Obi’s ties to Southeast secessionist activists, we would like to make our stance clear. Any agreement that would allow Igbos to operate their lawful enterprises without being subjected to discriminatory state regulations or unfairly singled out as an endangered community is still welcome by Ohanaeze Ndigbo. We reiterate our commitment to Nigerian unity, pledge our adherence to the Nigerian Constitution, and extend our full support for all lawfully elected positions, including the presidency currently occupied by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

We must be open about our concerns with the second question from Northern leadership about Mr. Peter Obi’s ability to protect and preserve the geographical integrity and dignity of Nigeria as a single entity, as well as his reliability with political authority. There are serious doubts about Mr. Obi’s capacity to keep Nigeria united in light of his deeds and inactions. The entire foundation of our country may be threatened if he were elected president, and it might even become divided into three separate countries.

As the crucial elections of 2027 draw near, we urge all parties involved to carefully consider the ramifications of their political decisions. A strong commitment to unity and wise decision-making are essential to the future of our wonderful country.

Senate Debunks Claims of Internal Rift Between Akpabio and Bamidele

Reports of an altercation between Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Senate President Godswill Akpabio at a recent executive session have been denied by the Senate.
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, called the allegations false and deceptive in a statement released on Sunday.
The reports, he maintained, distorted ordinary parliamentary procedures as evidence of internal strife.

“Our attention has been drawn to various media reports that state that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele fought during an executive session recently held to discuss whether the Senate should proceed on annual recess,” the statement said.

“There is not a shred of truth in the reports. All together, they misrepresent long-standing customs and practices in parliaments around the world, where members, irrespective of their political inclinations, use the tools of parliamentary debates, questions, or interpellations to discuss every initiative in a decisive and diverse manner prior to approval or authorization.

The Senate spokeswoman said that heated debate is still a feature of parliamentary democracy and does not reflect a lack of unity among members.

As the highest legislative body in our nation, the Senate is not any different. Every bill, motion, and proposal is examined closely in our Chamber virtually every day, just like in other parliaments.

“This calls for vigorous discussions in which members examine and evaluate each proposal that comes before the Senate solely for the benefit of more than 230 million Nigerians,” he stated.

Whether in plenary or committee meetings, Adaramodu emphasized that the discussions should not be interpreted as private disputes or indications of disunity among Senate leadership.

He came to the conclusion that policy debates, whether in a chamber or a committee room, should not be interpreted as disputes between members or as indicating a weakness in the leadership.

According to Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, several coalition members now regret joining up with the ADC.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and former All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman John Oyegun are reportedly among the coalition leaders.
Other notable figures include former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Ebonyi Governor Sam Egwu, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal,, and former Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke.

Kachikwu said in an interview with The Volume Pod that the opposition coalition is headed in the wrong direction and will eventually collapse.

Kachikwu contested the coalition’s validity, pointing to ongoing legal battles over ADC leadership.

He asserted that Ralph Nwosu had no power to hand over leadership of a contentious alliance to chosen individuals after his tenure as ADC national chairman ended two years ago.

Speaking on the opposition leaders’ alleged bribery of ADC state chairpersons to support their adoption of the party as an alliance platform, Kachikwu stated that only the court has the authority to determine the ADC’s future.

They are travelling along a pretty slick path that leads to failure, he said. Nothing can be built on top of nothing.

“The decision by two courts in two distinct jurisdictions that this man’s [Nwosu] tenure had ended was correct.

Therefore, there is nothing that they [ADC] would do that would be rational. No national executive committee (NEC) or convention has been held since Nwosu’s term ended two years ago.

“The American Drug Club has been attempting to have a convention. INEC really refused to recognize the two conventions they conducted.

“That’s the party’s problem. We [ADC] are dealing with unique situations that our constitution never intended to cause a rift inside the party.

“All of these men are now realizing that they were wrong to come to this party without addressing these problems, as they are contacting me through multiple individuals.”

Joshua Balogun Of UK Charterhouse School Visits Ophanage That Rescues Killing Of Twins, Donates Items

A United Kingdom based Charterhouse School student, Mr Joshua Oluwadamilola Balogun, has visited Vine Heritage Home, Kuje, Abuja, where he donated relief items and share experiences with them.

Balogun, a twin, said he sees his coming to the orphanage as a duty to associate with the children and also feel their pains.

Vine Heritage Home is a private charity home, established in 2004 and is dedicated to bringing succour to not just twins, but other children set to be killed or abandoned before its intervention.

Others were willingly brought to the centre by their parents or relatives, who could not provide for them for reasons of poverty, death and outright lack of interest in parental care.

As at November 2022, the Vine Heritage Centre has 175 children, among whom are 22 sets of twins.

Balogun, during his visit played football, basketball and table tennis with the children.

He said as a twin, he could have ended up like one of the children in the orphanage home but was lucky and therefore, saw the need to identify with them

He said, “I know I am very lucky to have the things I have, I am also a twin like alot of these children here, so, I know that I could have ended up just like them, and honestly, even, at first I didn’t believe it but unfortuntely, it’s the sad truth.

“I just wanted to do my own part to help as well because I know that this children were just like me, they could have been in my position. I feel obligated to help, i feel it’s my duty, my responsibility as I have the ability to help.

This visit is to help the children play basketball. I also feel if you have the ability to help you should help and thanks to God, he gave me the ability to do the things I can, and I feel like he wants me to help the children, so, I just want to do that in the best way I can.

“So, I wil try my best to reach out to as many orphanages that I can and I will try my best to help as many that I can. I just think the more I try, the better the outcome will be and I want to do my best to make a positive impact in this world”.

Founder of Vine Heritage Home, Pastor Steven Olusola, said it’s been so far, so good since the home was established.

According to him, “men and women of goodwill, just as Mr Balogun is doing today have been supporting us”.

He described the visit as a memorable one which the children will remember for a long time.

Pastor Olusola said, “Well, it’s a memorable one in the sense that we have people from within and outside Nigeria coming to visit the ophanage home to support what we are doing. It goes a long way to strengthen our hearts to do much more for the children God has given us to care for.

“In the last 10 years, we have seen people coming to know what we are doing. With the help of good people within and outside Nigeria, it has lightened our burden because it would have been a bigger burden, if we are to rescue, nurture and do everything all alone without any body supporting us, no matter how rich and powerful you are, I don’t think you would have done this alone.

Well, for me, it’s not just a motivation, it’s a calling. It’s a calling of God because it was God that pointed to me what was happening in the rural community and gave us an instruction to go and save them, and for me it has been a world wide venture, because when you see someone like Wonder boy that you picked 4 hours after birth, Wonder boy is now 21 years old. You were there when he was a baby, toddler, go through primary and secondary school. now, if I am not here, he is doing exactly what I am doing today, he speaks on behalf of the home, when I am not here, he can attend to people, he can lead people to the community and say this is what my dad is doing, so for me, whenever I look at this children it gives me joy.

“These are children that would have been killed and forgotten but you can see them lively. Some of them are in higher institution, some are in secondary school, so, if we have not been doing what God called us to do, they would have been forgotten.

Federal Government Rejects Claims of JSS1 Admission Age Raised to 12

0

The Nigerian federal government has adamantly opposed raising the minimum age of entrance into the nation’s junior secondary schools (JSS) from 10 to 12.
The minimum age limit for admission to universities and other postsecondary educational institutions is still 16 years old, the administration added.
Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, reportedly provided the clarifications in a statement released on Saturday.

According to him, the Punch Newspaper published a false and misleading report claiming that the Federal Government has raised the minimum age requirement for admission to Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) to 12 years old.

The disputed information, according to Alausa, did not come from any official source and does not represent governmental policy.

Thus, he called on the public to ignore the first news.

According to the statement: “The Federal Ministry of Education has expressed concern about a false and misleading article in The Punch Newspaper that suggested the Federal Government had established a new minimum age of 12 years for Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) admission. The Ministry wants to make it clear that this report is completely untrue, did not come from a government source, and does not represent government policy.

The minimal age to be admitted to JSSl is still ten years old, just to be clear. No child should, therefore, finish elementary school before the age of ten. All stakeholders in education, including the general public, should disregard any suggestion to the contrary since it is deceptive.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed that 16 is the minimum age required for admission to Nigerian universities in a similar manner. This policy is standard, non-negotiable, and applies to all students, regardless of when they may have finished secondary school. According to the Ministry, pupils’ cognitive and emotional preparedness for increased academic involvement is guaranteed by this age criterion.

The Federal Ministry of Education requests that before acting upon or disseminating unconfirmed material, the general public, educational institutions, and media outlets always seek confirmation through official means. The Ministry is still dedicated to upholding developmental appropriateness and transparency in the execution of all educational policies in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu’s Aide Offers Update on Presidential Health

Daniel Bwala, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media, asserted that the Nigerian leader is “physically fitter than most presidents in advanced countries” in the face of fresh criticism over his early endorsements for the 2027 elections and frequent medical trips abroad.
According to reports, Bwala made the claim in an interview with DW Africa. In the same interview, he defended the surge of endorsements that followed Tinubu’s midterm in office, calling it an internal All Progressives Congress (APC) tradition.
When questioned about worries about Tinubu’s health and his medical trips, Bwala responded, “The president of Nigeria is actually physically fitter than most presidents in the advanced countries.”

He clarified that the early support for Tinubu’s second term was not a planned political ploy but rather a component of the APC’s midterm procedural review.

“There will be a mid-term assessment as part of our party’s procedure,” Bwala stated.

Therefore, President Bola Tinubu is not at issue. After each midterm, we shall evaluate the president, whoever is in office at the time, to see whether they have performed well enough that we would trust them to remain.

Tinubu passed the evaluation “with distinction,” according to Bwala.

“We measured that he has performed wonderfully well,” he said. Therefore, we are completely certain that we have the backing of our people in 2027.

Bwala emphasized local government autonomy as a crucial step in strengthening democratic governance while highlighting the Tinubu administration’s major accomplishments.

“Introducing local government autonomy is one way to strengthen democracy,” he stated. autonomy that provides administrators or chairmen of local governments with a wealth of resources.

“States have been able to recruit vigilantes and acquire equipment for surveillance, intelligence gathering, and law enforcement support because of this autonomy,” he explained.

Bwala also emphasized Tinubu’s leadership in the fields of agriculture and healthcare.

He added, “We also offered dispensaries, such as free caesarean sections for mothers who are having difficulties giving birth.”

He went on to say that the administration’s rice policy has made food more accessible, particularly for those with modest incomes.

Additionally, we have a rice policy that has made rice accessible to Nigerians at all levels, he stated. Additionally, there are local-level subsidies available to persons for specific prescription medications.

He claims that since the beginning of the administration, almost 10 million Nigerians have been enrolled in the country’s healthcare system.

School Holidays: CSOs, Anti-Human Trafficking Team Urge Public Alertness

A group of non-governmental organizations, including the Rivers State Response Team on Violence Against Women and Children and the Rivers State Taskforce on Anti-Human Trafficking (NAPTIP), have urged parents to keep a close eye on their children and wards during the state’s extended holiday.

As they enter the wider community, the CSOs also cautioned recent graduates and school dropouts to be resourceful and hardworking rather than desperate, emphasizing that the haste to quickly achieve a new status has led to many becoming victims of sexual exploitation and abuse, human trafficking, and organ harvesting.

The joint campaign has become necessary because human trafficking is not only gender-based violence but also a crime against humanity, according to a statement signed on Saturday by Queeneth Igbara, Communication and Public Enlightenment officer, and signed by Tombari Dumka-Kote, Coordinator, Rivers State Response Team on Violence Against Women and Children, and Secretary, Rivers State Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce.

He made a suggestion that the program is starting to commemorate the World Day Against Human Trafficking, which is observed on July 30 of each year as announced by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

It is necessary to get the word to their places of business because, according to Dumka-Kote, market buyers and sellers are not in any way excluded from the group of people who may be influenced by traffickers’ actions.

The Centre for Justice, Empowerment & Development’s Programme Officer, Queeneth Igbara, stated that human trafficking is an organized crime that impacts families, particularly women and children who are sexually exploited and abused.

She repeatedly stressed the necessity for parents to protect their kids from abusers and those whose only goal is to take advantage of the weaker segments of society in the Oroworokwo Community Marketplace.

The women were reassured by Donwile Apenu, a representative of the OLEGH Centre for Community Development, that the Taskforce and CSOs would support their collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in order to address all reported cases of child labor, exploitation, and trafficking in the State.

Other speakers at the Oroworokwo Community Market’s “Zero Tolerance for Human Trafficking and Gender Based Violence” awareness campaign included NAPTIP, Relief International Africa, and the Together to Win Foundation.

The theme for the 2025 World Day Against Human Trafficking is “End the Exploitation: Human Trafficking is Organized Crime.”

Yamawo Blasts APC Over Delegates’ Congress in Build-Up to 2026 AMAC Polls

0

The All Progressives conference (APC) delegates’ conference and the Abuja Metropolitan Area Council (AMAC) primaries have not yet been concluded, and party leaders are still accusing the event of irregularities.

During a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, Hon. Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, a candidate for the chairmanship of the 2026 AMAC council, accused the recent primaries “held on June 25, 2025” of “gross injustice, deliberate exclusion, and abuse of internal democracy.”

Yamawo apologized for the exercise’s secrecy and informed media that the chairmanship primary victor was a pre-selected candidate.

Additionally, he denounced as a sham the behavior of the party’s delegates congress, which was held throughout AMAC’s twelve wards.

After completing all constitutional criteria to run for the chairperson, including acquiring the nomination forms and expression of interest for 20 million naira (N20 million), Hon. Yamawo, who was clearly concerned, stated that he had anticipated “transparency and fairness” in the process.

In order to guarantee that delegate candidates would be eligible to attend the delegates congress, I also paid for and filed delegate forms and paid the three-year dues.

Inconsistencies, a lack of openness, and outright manipulation plagued the process,” he bemoaned.

The chairmanship candidate gave an explanation of the actions taken to settle the disputes through internal party channels, saying, “In response to this, I formally submitted a petition to the Delegate Congress Appeal Committee, rejecting the process and demanding a rescheduled congress that would truly reflect the will of the people.”

“Neither the appeal committee nor the APC National Secretariat have acknowledged or responded to me as of yet.

The APC National Headquarters-sent committee arrived with a predetermined agenda that was obviously intended to give preference to one candidate over others.

He voiced worries, insisting that “this degree of exclusion and manipulation sets a dangerous precedent.” It tells the world that internal democracy and fairness are no longer important to the APC.

If these serious injustices continue, our party’s future is in jeopardy. In our ranks, it demoralizes devoted members and promotes impunity.

“I speak not just as an aspirant in the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship primary election for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), but as a founding member of the APC in AMAC and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a devoted and active member who has paid his dues and served this party with unwavering commitment since its inception,” parts of a statement he signed said.

“I complied with all constitutional procedures to run for chairmanship as an APC financial member. The Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms were purchased by me for $20,000,000.00.

In order to guarantee that delegate candidates would be eligible to attend the delegates congress, I also paid for and filed delegate forms and paid the three-year dues.

In my opinion, this procedure would be open, trustworthy, and consistent with our party’s basic principles of justice, equity, inclusion, and internal democracy.

To our utter surprise, the delegates’ convention that took place on June 21, 2025, throughout AMAC’s twelve wards, was a total farce.

“The APC National Headquarters-sent committee arrived with a predetermined agenda that was obviously intended to give preference to one candidate over another.

There were anomalies, a lack of openness, and plain manipulation throughout the process.

I officially petitioned the Delegate Congress Appeal Committee in response, stating that I disapproved of the procedure and called for a new congress that would accurately represent the people’s will.

“Neither the appeal committee nor the APC National Secretariat have acknowledged or responded to me as of yet.

The party leadership at the national level remained utterly mute in spite of our repeated demands for justice, including a follow-up letter asking that the Chairmanship primary be rescheduled.

“Even worse, neither I nor any other candidate received any official notification that the primary election would begin on June 25, 2025.”

“There was a lot of secrecy around the process, and by the time the results were revealed, a pre-selected candidate had won an election that I and many others were purposefully left out of.

In addition to being unacceptable, this betrays every tenet upon which the APC was established.

In several wards, particularly Gwarimpa Ward, the councillorship primaries were equally rife with anomalies, as if that weren’t enough.

In one startling case, a candidate who lost the primary for councillorship was proclaimed elected and even given a certificate of return. We cannot tolerate this flagrant disrespect for due process.

A risky precedent is formed by this degree of exclusion and manipulation. It tells the world that internal democracy and fairness are no longer important to the APC.

If these serious injustices continue, our party’s future is in jeopardy. In our ranks, it demoralizes devoted members and promotes impunity.

The following demands are made by me as a devoted party member and stakeholder:

An independent investigative committee should be established by the party leadership and the newly appointed APC National Chairman, Professor Nantawe Goshwe Yilwatda, to examine:

The way the AMAC Delegates Congress behaved.

“The Primary for Chairmanship and Councillorship,

issuing unauthorized certificates of return.

“That the AMAC Chairmanship primary on June 25th be canceled and that a new, inclusive, and credible primary be held in compliance with the party’s constitution.”

“That the party publicly recognize and respond to petitions filed by candidates, including mine, and address all valid complaints.”

To be clear, I maintain my commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the principles of the All Progressives Congress, a man whose leadership continues to motivate many of us.

However, we run the risk of offending the same people who founded our party if we permit injustice, exclusion, and deception to continue.

“I implore all of our party’s members, leaders, and genuine progressives to stand up for the party’s core values.

“The selection of well-liked and competent candidates who can win the general elections is no longer reflected in the party ticket; instead, it now represents those who have the support of wealthy and influential sponsors. The future of our party is seriously threatened by this increasing tendency of imposition.

The party has seen a sharp drop in member loyalty, and many no longer believe the party can maintain justice and equity.

Therefore, it is imperative that we prevent the avaricious interests of a select few from destroying the foundation that millions of people have labored to establish over the years.

APC Chairmanship: Northern Christians Throw Weight Behind Prof. Yilwatda, Commend Tinubu

After the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda was congratulated by the Arewa Christian Youth Leadership Forum (ACYLF) on becoming the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group praised Yilwatda’s appointment as a significant step toward the political inclusion of Northern Christians and a tactical shift for the ruling party, calling him a “distinguished technocrat, patriot, and proud son of Plateau State.”

The ACYLF said in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dunijir Gatama, that Professor Yilwatda, a digital governance specialist and former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, contributes “a wealth of experience, innovation, and generational insight” to the APC’s leadership.

The statement reads, “This appointment is a bold and strategic recalibration of leadership within the APC—it is not just a routine political reshuffle.” “It demonstrates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visionary leadership and his determination to modernize the party by bringing in capable, young, and forward-thinking leaders.”

ACYLF also took advantage of the occasion to praise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his concerted efforts to promote religious parity and national integration in federal appointments.

The group underlined that Professor Yilwatda’s appointment further reflects the President’s commitment to inclusive governance, citing the prior appointments of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defense Staff and Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The group declared, “These appointments have restored hope and trust in the democratic process and are monumental for our community.” “They convey a strong and unambiguous message that minority voices, especially those of Northern Christians, are not only valued but also essential to the Nigerian project.”
