Success James, 35, was sentenced to prison on Wednesday by a magistrate’s court in Awka, Anambra State, for child labor and kidnapping young girls for prostitution in the region.

Genevieve Osakwe, the presiding magistrate, found James guilty on seven of the eight charges that were brought against him.

James was found guilty, and Osakwe, who handed down the sentence, sentenced her to five years in prison for count one, five years in prison for count two, two years in prison for count three, four years in prison for count four, two years in prison for count five, and two years in prison for count eight.

Osakwe added that there shouldn’t be a fine option and that all sentences should run concurrently.
In December 2022, the convict was found in Onitsha, Anambra State, and was charged with kidnapping four teenage girls from Akwa Ibom State and using them as slaves. The case was heard in Awka.

On December 23, 2022, representatives of the state Ministry for Women and Social Welfare eventually came to the four teenage girls’ rescue.

The victims claimed they were abducted by the suspect, who promised to arrange employment for them in Agbor, Delta State, where they would be selling drinks in a beer parlor. However, when they arrived, they learned that the work they had been brought for was prostitution.

Ify Obinabo, the state’s commissioner for women and social welfare, responded by expressing happiness over the ruling and revealing that the kids had been enrolled in school and were also taking classes at the state skills acquisition center in Awka to learn the skills of their choosing.

On Wednesday, thousands of Twitter users complained about difficulties using the service as the Elon Musk-owned social network started allowing paid users to post tweets up to 4,000 characters.

Early in the afternoon in Silicon Valley, reports of Twitter issues increased at the website Downdetector and persisted for about two hours.
Online users’ complaints included not being able to post messages, being informed that they had used up their daily limit of tweets, and not being able to send direct messages.

US media reported that Twitter set a daily cap of 2,400 tweets to ease the burden on its infrastructure.

Additionally, TweetDeck, a well-known dashboard for managing and viewing Twitter accounts, was said to no longer function.
The outages happened the same day that Twitter’s $8/month Blue subscription service in the US gained a length perk.

According to the tech company, Twitter Blue subscribers can now post tweets with up to 4,000 characters, far more than the 280-character limit imposed on free users.

In a lengthy tweet announcing the benefit, the tech company wrote, “But don’t worry, Twitter is still Twitter.”

They will be limited to 280 characters on your timeline and you will see a “Show more” prompt to click and read the entire Tweet because “we know longer Tweets could mean a lot of scrolling.”

After taking control of the San Francisco-based company late last year, Musk drastically reduced Twitter’s workforce, raising questions about whether the platform would have access to enough engineering talent to maintain its smooth operation.

On Wednesday, US tech media reported that Musk had instructed Twitter staff to put off work on new features in order to concentrate on troubleshooting.

After eight days in captivity, kidnappers of the Cross River State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Prof Gertrude Njar, have demanded N150 million for her release.

This is according to an update shared by the publisher of Cross Rivers Watch, Agba Jalingo, on his official Facebook page.

The commissioner was abducted within the Mayne Avenue-Atamunu area of Calabar South in the early hours of February 1.

The Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Eric Anderson, while announcing the unfortunate incident to journalists, said the police and the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Dr Alfred Mboto, had been contacted.

He also expressed worry that “such an ugly development could take place in the heart of the town.”

Njar alongside other commissioners was sworn in by Governor Ben Ayade recently.
