Presidential polls: Atiku, PDP files petition against Tinubu’s victory

Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally filed a petition with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu, the candidate for president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the President-elect of Nigeria. The petition is directed at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

, in his petition bearing the designation CA/PEPC/03/2023, is requesting that the tribunal overturn Tinubu’s victory and declare him the victor of the presidential election that took place on February 25.

In the first through the fourth respondents, he named the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The petition was submitted just a few hours after the petitions of three further presidential candidates of the Labour Party, (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, were submitted.

The people who filed the case want the tribunal to rule that Tinubu did not win the election fairly since he did not receive a majority of the legitimate votes that were cast for him.

They demand an injunction that compels the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to either retrieve the certificate of return that was issued to the APC candidate or, failing that, hold a new election.

The media aide to the president-elect claimed that Mr. Obi’s move to challenge the outcome of the presidential election in 2023 could be viewed in the same way that the election of MKO Abiola in 1993 was invalidated by IBB. This claim was made in response to Mr. Obi’s statement that he would challenge the outcome of the election.

In yet another attempt to drive a wedge between Nigerians of Yoruba and Igbo descent, Mr. Onanuga tweeted on Tuesday evening, “Peter Obi of Labour Party seeks the annulment of the election of President-elect Bola Tinubu just like the military annulled MKO Abiola’s election of 12 June 1993.” This was part of Mr. Onanuga’s ongoing campaign to pit Nigerians of Yoruba and Igbo descent against one another.

On the other hand, he stated that Mr. Tinubu and his followers were ready to defend his election victory and that “Team Tinubu would absolutely meet you (Obi) in court.”

Mr. Onanuga has continued to make incendiary anti-Igbo remarks ever since the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won the governorship election in Lagos last Saturday. These remarks endanger the long-standing peaceful co-existence of Yorubas and Igbos.

Mr. Onanuga said in a tweet alongside a photo of Peter Obi, an Igbo from Anambra State who supported Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a Yoruba from Lagos, in the election that “Let 2023 be the last time of Igbo interference in Lagos politics,” Mr. Onanuga said. “Let 2023 be the last time of Igbo interference in Lagos politics.” “May there not be a reoccurrence in the year 2027.”

Mr. Onanuga only seemed more confident in his description of Igbos as “existential threats to Yorubas,” despite the fact that his colleague Festus Keyamo had reprimanded him for his statements.

Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP was declared the winner of the recently concluded governor’s race, but the All Progressive Congress, or APC, in Kano has deemed the results to be invalid and unreliable and unable to withstand the test of time.

At a crowded press conference on Tuesday, Abdul Fagge, the legal advisor for the APC, stated that it was impossible for the election to be deemed successful with more than 270,000 votes being invalidated.

According to Section 65 of the Electoral Law 2022, he declared: “We have written to INEC to revisit and cancel the hasty, incorrect, and self-serving declaration of the NNPP as the election’s winner, and declared the conduct inconclusive.”
He claimed that since then, they have written to INEC requesting that they review the elections in accordance with electoral law provisions and declare them inconclusive within seven days.

According to Fagge, the INEC Returning Officer acted egotistically and in violation of the law.

He pointed out that since elections in Kano clearly descended into violence, if INEC could declare elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states inconclusive due to violence and excessive voting, it should do the same for those in Kano.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, compared the National Assembly election with the governorship election, of which the former has been deemed inconclusive, in his remarks during the briefing.

Doguwa noted that 12 of the 13 polling places were closed due to violence and excessive voting, and he has since accepted his faith while awaiting the election’s reruns.

Dauda Lawal, the newly elected governor of Zamfara State, thanked the state’s citizens for their support in the election on Saturday.

Governor Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress, APC, lost to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who received 377,726 votes to 311,976 for Matawalle.

The mission to free Zamfara from poverty, insecurity, and other problems has begun, according to a statement released by Lawal on Tuesday.
The banker vowed to keep his campaign promises and ensure everyone’s comfort, prosperity, and respect for the law.

“Zamfara State will be a reference point for new ideas, tenacity, dynamism, and limitless possibilities under my leadership,” he said.

Lawal praised the fathers of the kings, the clergy, the government, market women, the men, “and most especially our resilient and dynamic youths.”

The newly elected governor also praised security forces for upholding law and order and for acting quickly to address a variety of issues before, during, and after the election.

Supporters of the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State, Chijoke Edeoga, stormed the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Enugu on Tuesday, insisting that the party had won the March 18 election.

According to reports, Casmir Agbo, the Enugu State Chairman of the Labour Party, stated to the press that they were protesting because they did not want the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate the election outcome.

It should be noted that INEC had suspended collation of the governorship election due to discrepancies in the results from two local governments, Nkanu East and Nsukka, until the matter was resolved.

Following that, the Labour Party petitioned INEC regarding the Nkanu East LGA results.

“We are here because the PDP is attempting to manipulate the governorship election.” We easily won in all 17 local government areas.

“We won by over 11,000 votes. We’ve seen the outcomes. “The only issue is Nkanu East,” Agbo explained.

The statement reads: “The government of Zamfara state has noticed with dismay, the wanton destruction and vandalisation of government and public property and assets where several innocent citizens are being inflicted with various degrees of injuries in the name of celebration of yesterday’s declaration of Governorship election results.” “Reports available to the government indicate that in lives were lost, houses and personal effects destroyed and shops were burgled. “To guard against these acts, government finds it imperative to impose statewide curfew from 8 pm to 6am until peace is restored. Security agencies are therefore directed to ensure compliance.”

Following the announcement of the election results, the Kano State government, whose deputy governor Nasir Gawuna ran for office as an APC candidate but lost to Abba Yusuf of the NNPP, took a similar action, according to Legit.ng. A curfew had been imposed by Governor Ganduje’s administration to prevent violent celebrations, but some NNPP supporters disobeyed it as they flocked to the streets to celebrate the defeat of the ruling party.

Prophet Odumeje, the founder of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, has declared that his time on earth is at an end and that he will pass away soon.

This was said by the well-known Anambra-based pastor as he informed his congregation that it was time for him to leave during church service.

Odumeje, also known as Indaboski, claimed that he had a heart-to-heart conversation with his first son, David, and told him that his final days on earth are drawing near.

When he (Odumeje) is gone, he told the boy to get ready to be the head of the household who will look after his mother and siblings.
The cleric said that the reason he entered the world had been accomplished.

“I called your father, King David, and told him that I would be leaving very soon. Your mother and brothers are dependent on you.

“I had a reason for coming into this world, and that reason has been satisfied. I’ve completed my planetary ministry, and I’ll be departing soon,” he declared.

The 40-year-old Odumeje gained notoriety due to his peculiar method of performing deliverance, in which he carries members seeking miracles like WWE wrestlers and then throws them to the ground.

He has engaged in numerous conflicts and issued challenges to many native physicians to hold competitions regarding their capacity to work miracles. The man of God recently claimed that he engaged in combat with the devil in the underworld and emerged victorious.

In response to the recently completed presidential election in Nigeria, protests have broken out in Abuja, the capital of the country.

The Unity Fountain has been occupied by the protesters, who are mainly young people, to vent their rage.

With signs reading “We stand for Justice, we fight for a new Nigeria,” “President Buhari keep your promise,” and “Democracy not INECcracy,” the protesters were dressed all in black. The protesters pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to prevent the collapse of Nigeria on behalf of “the people.

Moses Ogidi Paul of Yell-Out Nigeria, who organized the protest, spoke at the protest site and bemoaned INEC’s shortcomings in the recently concluded presidential election.

It’s not too late, according to Ogidi, for INEC to repair its reputation.

Petro tweeted, “I have instructed the armed forces to reactivate all military operations against the Clan del Golfo.

“We won’t allow them to keep sowing fear and anxiety in the neighborhoods.”

The Clan and government agreed to a cease-fire as part of efforts to end the group’s involvement in Colombia’s internal conflict, which has claimed at least 450,000 lives.

It was scheduled to begin on New Year’s Eve and last for six months. In a radio interview from a few days prior, on March 13, Petro accused the group of destroying a municipal aqueduct in the province of Antioquia amid roadblocks related to unofficial gold miners’ protests.

At the time, Petro declared that the group had “broken the ceasefire” and that if attacks continued, negotiations with the group were out of the question.

Authorities stated earlier on Sunday that six vehicles were set on fire in the Bajo Cauca region of the Antioquia department in an incident allegedly related to the mining protest.

Ivan Velasquez, the defense minister, told reporters on Sunday night that the government was certain that the Clan was accountable for both the violent incident and the rifle attack on law enforcement, which Petro had alluded to in a tweet earlier that day.

According to Velasquez, orders had been given to military units and the national police to create “offensive operations against the Clan del Golfo.” More than 10,000 law enforcement officers worked in the area, he continued.

Truck drivers passing through conflict zones were urged by Velasquez to join scheduled caravans that would be guarded by security personnel in order to prevent similar incidents.

INEC declares Abba Yusuf as governor elect for Kano State

Malam Abba Yusuf, a candidate for the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), has been proclaimed the victor of the Kano State governorship election that took place on March 18.

Abba received 1,019,602 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the governorship candidate for the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, who received 890,705 votes, according to Professor Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, the chief returning officer for the election, who announced the results at precisely 6:47 am local time at the INEC headquarters in Kano state.

“That Abba, Kabir Yusuf having scored the highest number of votes and having satisfied the requirements of the law is returned elected dated this day 20, March, 2023,” declared the Professor.

The Chief Returning Officer explained that because the confirmed incidents of election-related violence occurred after the vote, these developments have no bearing on the margin of victory in accordance with INEC Guideline 2.

Difference of 128, 897 votes determines the winner.

Out of the state’s 44 Local Government Areas, NNPP won 30 and APC won 14.

2,320,955 ballots were cast in total, 1,977,872 of them were valid, and 27,092 were invalid.

The NNPP’s party representative at the collation center, Dr. Bappa Bichi, expressed satisfaction with the results and claimed that the declaration of the results represented the acceptance of the will of the Kano people.

It serves as a declaration of our commitment and will to democracy. Opportunity for Kano state and Nigeria as a whole to grow peacefully, together, and economically,” he said.

Suleiman Bichi, the party representative for the APC, responded in a different way, reiterating that the party would examine the legal provisions and take the necessary action while urging the Kano residents to maintain their composure.

“We reject the interpretation of Guideline Number 2 by the Chief Returning Officer in place of Guideline Number 6. However, I urge everyone in Kano, especially the supporters of our party, to maintain their composure. It’s not the end of the world if you lose an election because there are still more chances to win, he said.
