Yemi Osinbajo is set to deliver public lecture at King’s College, London

On Sunday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will leave Abuja for London, UK, where he will give a public lecture at King’s College, London. The event is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, said in a statement that the lecture was part of the activities for the school’s annual Africa Week 2023 events. Akande made the statement in Abuja.

When the University of London was established in 1836, King’s College London, which had been established the previous year in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington, was chosen to be one of the two founding colleges of the University of London.

Prior to delivering his lecture, the Vice President will meet with senior administrators of King’s College Africa Leadership Centre (ALC) as part of his visit as a Special Guest of the institution’s Africa Leadership Centre (ALC), which will be his host.

It is anticipated that the lecture will be organized around the topic of “Changing Africa in a Shifting Global Landscape”, which is the theme of King’s College Africa Week 2023.
The celebration of research, education, and outreach activities on Africa that takes place each year is called Africa Week.

It provides an opportunity for students, researchers, and academics to hear from African scholars, political leaders, and thinkers. It brings together students, researchers, and academics.
Osinbajo’s lecture, given in his capacity as a political and thought leader from Africa, will center on the question of how Africa can prosper in a world that is becoming increasingly complex.

It is anticipated that the vice president will return to Nigeria within the next week.

Unidentified gunmen kill two police officers at a checkpoint in Enugu

On Sunday, unidentified gunmen allegedly responsible for the deaths of two policemen resumed their attack on security checkpoints in Enugu State.

The University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, or UNEC, was the target of the gunmen’s attack.

According to a reliable source, the police officers on stop and search missions were taken by surprise.

Two of the officers are seen lying in a pool of blood in a social media video that is currently trending.

A statement on the incident has not yet been released by the Enugu State Police Command.

FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy arrives in Nigeria

On Saturday afternoon, the original FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy, which 32 teams from around the world will compete for from July 20 to August 20, arrived in Abuja.

The trophy was transported to the other three African nations that will compete in the finals—Morocco, South Africa, and Zambia—before being delivered to Nigeria.

 

 

 

Before traveling to Australia and New Zealand, the trophy will complete the fourth leg of its 32-leg journey in Nigeria.

The largest FIFA Women’s World Cup in history will be held in Australia and New Zealand, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

From Sunday at noon, the trophy will be on display at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, with a photo opportunity scheduled for a number of invited guests.

Only four nations—the United States, Germany, Norway, and Japan—have ever taken home the trophy.

It has been won four times by the United States, twice by Germany, once each by Japan, and once by Norway.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Oceania Football Federation will be the two confederations hosting this year’s finals, which will take place in 10 venues across the two host nations (OFC).

A FIFA World Cup championship will be held across two confederations for the first time ever.

In total, there are six venues spread across five different Australian cities, four venues in New Zealand, and just two venues in Sydney, Australia.

EndSARS: Sanwo-Olu reimburses Lagos Uber driver for court-ordered damages of N5 million

Adedotun Clement, an Uber driver who was assaulted on the first anniversary of the EndSARS protest, has been awarded N5 million in compensation by a Lagos court. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has announced that he will pay Clement’s award.
On October 20, 2021, police officers and representatives of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency attacked the victim at the Lekki Tollgate.

In a court in Lagos State, Mr. Clement and his attorney, Inibehe Effiong, filed a N500 million lawsuit against the police and the state agency.

On March 14, the Lagos division of the high court decided that Mr. Clement should receive N5 million in damages from the state government.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu stated in a series of tweets on Saturday that he was ready to make the payment, that he would uphold the law, and that he would defend the rights of the public.

He continued by saying that he had given the state’s attorney general, Moyosore Onigbanjo, the order to schedule a meeting in order to pay the damages determined by the court.

Good evening, Lagos. In my capacity as governor, I’m dedicated to upholding the rule of law and defending the rights of citizens with compassion and authority.

“I recently learned about Mr. Clement Adedotun’s case and the Federal High Court’s ruling, and I recognize the effect this legal dispute has had on him.

Following a review of Mr. Clement’s case, Mr. Sanwo-Olu stated, “I have instructed the Honorable Attorney General to schedule a meeting and pay him the compensation awarded by the Court.”

According to Mr. Sanwo-Olu, the state government will not challenge the high Court’s decision but will instead abide by it for the benefit of the general populace.

Despite the State Government’s appeal of the judgment, Mr. Sanwo-Olu stated, “I have intervened in this matter in the interest of the public good and requested that the State’s Attorney General comply with the court’s ruling.”

“I commend all parties for seeking justice through the proper channels, and I remain committed to upholding the rights of all Lagosians,” he continued. “As a strong advocate for the rule of law, I also applaud all parties for doing so.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s council of elders chairman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has stated that those who attacked Ndigbo in Lagos on March 18 during the governorship election will pay for their crimes.

Speaking at an event to commemorate Chukwuma Soludo’s first year in office as governor of Anambra State in Awka, Anambra State on Saturday, Iwuanyanwu called those destroying Igbo properties in Lagos “political rascals.”

He pointed out that there are no conflicts in the nation between the Igbo and Yoruba ethnic groups.

I called a meeting of the Ohanaeze council of elders worldwide on Wednesday, and we analyzed the events in Lagos, I want to let our people in Lagos know, he said.

“I want to let you know that attendees came from the American, Canadian, European, London, and Nigerian branches. Success of 2023 census depends on traditional, religious leaders, says Abari

Dr. Garba Abari, Director General of the National Orientation Agency, has emphasized the significance of religious and traditional leaders in order to ensure the success of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.

This was something that Abari discussed during his appearance on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum that took place in Abuja on Sunday.

It was stated by the director-general, who is a member of the National Publicity and Advocacy Committee on census, that traditional institutions and religious leaders, in addition to leaders of thought, play critical roles in the process of social mobilization.

He went on to say that the traditional institutions and religious leaders had shown support for the census after being engaged by the National Population Commission (NPC), which had achieved success in this endeavor.

According to him, the success of the census in 2023 will largely be dependent on the role that traditional institutions and religious leaders play as well as their participation in the census.

“The Chairman of the National Population Commission had visited key traditional leaders and made them census ambassadors in order to engage them for the exercise,” he explained further.

In addition to this, he (the chairman) had traveled to every state in order to meet with relevant stakeholders in preparation for the exercise.

The majority of traditional and religious leaders are also members of the census committees of their respective states, as well as the census committees of their respective local governments and communities, wherever it is applicable.

“As far as the role of these critical individuals and institutions is concerned, they have been sufficiently captured, and very soon we will see a saturation of their messages in the airwaves, markets, motor parks, streets, and even in Churches and Mosques,” said the author. “As far as the role of these critical individuals and institutions is concerned, they have been sufficiently captured.”

The head of the NOA emphasized how important an accurate census is to national planning and development, and as a result, he urged all Nigerians to make sure that they were counted in the upcoming census.

He also mentioned that the census, which was supposed to take place on March 29, will now take place from May 3 to May 5.

According to Abari, the date change was necessary due to the Independent National Electoral Commission moving the elections for governorship and State Assembly from March 11 to March 18. These elections were originally scheduled to take place on March 11.

On Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who was able to win in the election for the governorship of Oyo State on March 18, called on the other candidates who ran in the election to work alongside him to bring Oyo State to even greater heights.

“The electioneering campaign is behind us at this point, and we are now going to fight over the issue of governance.

During the course of a radio program, Makinde was quoted as saying, “This is our state and commonwealth and we must make sure that we move our state forward.”

According to him, now is the time for everyone to work together for the benefit of Oyo State, and he promises that he will expand his sphere of influence by developing the state’s infrastructure.

He stressed that he would continue to build on the solid foundation that had already been laid over the course of the previous four years, and he made the promise that he would continue to deliver high-quality projects that would affect all aspects of the state.

The governor continued by saying that he would also put into practice the lessons learned during the campaigns and would keep vigorously working to develop the state as he had been doing since he took office in 2019 when he took over as governor.

Makinde expressed his gratitude to all of the residents who supported him prior to, during, and after the election. These supporters included elder statesmen and women, businessmen, labor unions, market associations, and religious bodies.

 

In the same vein, he mentioned that during his second term in office, his administration would be able to provide infrastructure to an even larger population in Oyo State and reach even more areas.

He maintained that the hiring of educators and other non-teaching staff members, as well as the construction of additional educational infrastructure, would receive major priority during his second term in office.

Makinde added that the administration would reacquire the services of a significant number of the terminated employees provided that they were not connected to any fraudulent activity.

The contract for the rehabilitation of the Agbowo Shopping Complex, which is located directly opposite the main gate of the University of Ibadan, will be re-awarded to a contractor with the appropriate capacity as soon as possible, according to the governor. (NAN)
