Biafra Referendum: Northern groups bemoan another case adjournment

0

A Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned the hearing yesterday until May 24, 2023, delaying the hearing of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) lawsuit for more than two years in order to hold a referendum on the future of Biafra and other self-determination movements.

The court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, was unable to convene as scheduled, so the case was postponed.

The case is scheduled to be heard on May 24, 2023, according to CNG’s attorney, Barrister Sufiyanu Gambo Idris, who was briefing journalists at the time.

Even though it was supposed to be for a rejoinder, he claimed that the court did not meet yesterday.

The judge provided an explanation for his absence, and they chose May 24, 2023, as the new date for the motion, he continued.

Remember that CNG filed a lawsuit before the Federal High Court in Abuja to prevent the national assembly from moving forward with the constitution review until the issue of Nigeria’s unity, specifically the Biafra agitation, was resolved through a referendum.

The senate president’s office, the house of representatives speaker’s office, and the federal attorney general’s office all received the court document with the markings FHC/ABJ/CS/538/2021.

Speaking about the development, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, spokesman for the coalition of northern groups, expressed the coalition’s confidence that the court, as the supreme temple of justice, would ultimately uphold the lawsuit and make history.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has requested that the Department of State Service (DSS) invite Dr. Datti Baba Ahmed, vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to explain his comments regarding Chief Justice of Nigeria Kayode Ariwoola’s decision not to administer the oath of office to Bola Tinubu on May 29.
Recall that on March 22nd, the VP of the LP stated on national television that swearing in the President-Elect would be the same as inviting the military to take control of Nigerian affairs.

In response, Baba Ahmed should not be detained but rather summoned for questioning, according to the chairman of the APC in Cross River state, who spoke to journalists on Thursday.

I saw that Release on Channels Television yesterday, the man remarked. The Labour Party vice presidential candidate Datti Ahmed said categorically on March 22 on Channels that the Chief Justice of Nigeria should not appoint our President-elect.

“That there won’t be a swearing-in statement was too strong and seemed to have some coloration. In law, this is known as circumstantial evidence. He should come and clarify whether he intends to obtain a court injunction or what he really meant, as it might not be firm or correct but there is a connection there.

According to Section 75 of the Electoral Act of 2022, the Certificate of Return for the President-elect has already been issued, and only the Tribunal has the authority to overturn that.

Sons of a deceased mother rejected and threw away a casket brought by son in-law in Wannune, Tarka, BENUE state.

In the early hours of Wednesday 29th February, 2023. The family of Verlumun Shima rejected a casket brought by son in-law at St. Christopher Mortuary for the burial of mother in-law.

65-year old Verlumun Shima who died on 8th February, 2023 and her burial was scheduled to take place at
Tse-Iorsalem-kwer, Tombo-mbatie, mbaya, mbaju, mbanor, Buruku LGA, Benue State.

As the TIV tradition demands, when a mother or a father dies, the first female child who is married is saddled with the responsibility to make provision for a casket for the burial of any of the deceased parents.

And for the maintenance of tradition, the first female child in conjunction with her husband who is a son in-law to the deceased mother, tried as he could to bring this casket in the pictures below but only to be rejected.
According to the family of the deceased, they said the casked isn’t beautiful and too poor to bury a member of their family.

Nigerians reacts:

According to Facebook users;
Ter Mningem: In as much as the dead can be buried in any casket or coffin, this particular one is not befitting enough. The son-in-law if for anything would have consulted his brother’s inlaws and told them his inadequacies and they would have fashioned out a way rather than allowing him to bring it and later be turned away. The shame isn’t only for the son-in-law but the family of the deceased will also share in the shameful stuff. They have succeeded in making history in the Tiv land but is it worth it? This could have been avoided by all means.

Another Facebook user, Prince Bishop Isho Semberfan says ; To be frank,if it was my mother,I will not even welcome that casket in our house whether casket resurrects someone or not, some of us are just blaming the family just because it’s on social media,I don’t see anyone accepting that casket for his or her mother’s burial.

Elder Dzugu E T also expressed his emotional heartfelt about the ugly incident saying: Our people mentality about burial is disgusting.
I personally don’t want people to spend fortunes on my burial.
Even if I will be buried in a sack, I’m comfortable with that.

Kelvin Gomna
An average Tiv Man will rather referred to these type of casket as “mnguaorga Akpati ” – which opined ; ” i have nobody ”
The daughter has tried but her husband would have met with the family members and inform them on time since he could not afford a better or higher quality of casket.

Iorlumun Thomas Marriage na your mate? This is the highest height of disrespect, it’s obvious the dude had no regard for his mother in-law right from when she was alive, the man is a disgrace to Son-in-law hood mbum.

Orcham Theophilus Terhemba Tyungu Make inlaw no carry this kain kasket come for my mama Sha. I fit mend you join. Truth be told, this is not befitting at all! We are not Muslims. We respect our dead!

Bringing this kind of cutt and join – wooden Akpati was embarrassing seriously, I doesn’t portray any show of love from her daughter and son in-law to her deceased mother even before when she was still alive. May God grant her peaceful internal souls rest in peace.
I always tell my mum if I have any good to offer to her is when she is alive. If by chance she happens to die before me, I won’t go extra mile in the name of the so called befitting burial.

This is one of the major causes of hardship in Tiv land.
They spend so much for burial of a person then when he/she is alive.

PDP: Why I supported Ayu’s removal – Wike

0

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has reaffirmed his claim that he would not shirk an invitation to testify before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) once out of office.
Regarding Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s current struggles as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) embattled national chairman, Wike asserted that the party will be stronger without Ayu remaining in the position.
The Governor argued that under Dr. Ayu, PDP lost its strength and lacked the kind of leadership that would have made it a formidable political force because the embattled national chairman was preoccupied with grabbing any personal gains he could.
The charge was made by Governor Wike on Wednesday at the Rumuigbo Civic Centre, which hosted the opening of the Rumuigbo Internal Roads in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
The governor declared that he was unable to support Dr. Ayu because he was occupied with constructing a private university in Benue State with funds raised at party congresses rather than providing the PDP with strong national leadership.
We ought to have strong leadership, in my opinion. I am unable to support those whose only goal is to amass wealth.

“I can’t support people when we held congresses and raised about N12.5 billion, only for that money to disappear two months later. And someone who has held office for a year is building a university, which I will not support.
Governor Wike explained to the party that the reason he is in favor of Dr. Ayu’s removal from office is because of her ineffective leadership style.
“For this reason, if we want to strengthen the PDP, that bloody criminal must be removed from office. I owe no one an apology. We will win this fight, as I have previously stated, as it will be our last.
When the internal roads project was flagged off in December 2022, governor Wike promised that he would complete it and inaugurate it, and that promise has been kept.
Asserting with good authority that he served the Rivers people credibly without also disappointing or embarrassing his kinmen, Governor Wike said he was satisfied with his performance in office.
He pledged to start more projects up until the stroke of midnight on May 28, 2023, without abandoning any that were already in progress.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State opened the project and praised governor Wike for completing more projects for the Rivers people. He said that Governor Wike’s financial resources were not entirely to blame for this, but rather his dedication to improving living conditions for Rivers residents.
Governor Wike’s political cunning in ensuring that PDP in the State won the governorship, every State Assembly seat, three senatorial seats, and votes that supported his preferred southern president was also acknowledged by Governor Mohammed.
Dr. George Kelly Dakorinima Alabo, the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, described the project by saying that the roads are dispersed among 17 streets of various sizes.
He claims that they are 8.5 kilometers long and that they were delivered in just 5 months with no interference from the host community.

He thanked Governor Wike for being one of the few politicians to consistently deliver on initiatives that improved the lives of Rivers residents.

Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the leading sociopolitical youth organization in the South East region, has disapproved of the 10th Senate’s election of the nation’s senate president.

The group is rather adamantly requesting that Peter Obi, a presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), receive the mandate given to him by Nigerians.

In a statement released in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, COSEYL president-general Hon. Goodluck Ibem called it an insult for someone who was elected as number one to be appeased with a rubber stamp number three position.

They emphasized that the South East senators running for senate president of the 10th senate are doing so for personal gain and do not speak for the political interests of the region’s citizens.

Those were his exact words: “Ndigbo are united on this and we will not renege from our support for Mr. Peter Obi who won the 25 February 2023 presidential election.

We support Mr. Peter Obi because he has the skills to lead the nation out of its current predicament and because he won the presidential election, not because he is from the South East. The nation is heavily indebted, both internally and externally, and Mr. Peter Obi is fully prepared and equipped to pay off our nation’s debts and also shift the country from consumption to production.

DSS under fire over alarm on plot for interim government

The Department of State Services (DSS) has come under fire after a tip-off that some errant politicians are plotting the establishment of an interim administration.
Recall that the DSS claimed in a statement on Wednesday that it had identified people who intended to prevent Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, from being sworn in and to compel an interim government.

According to the agency, the plan to impose an interim government is to ignore the constitution and threaten the country’s civil order, which would cause an avoidable crisis.

According to the report, the individuals want to prevent the May 29 inauguration of the new administration by funding large-scale violent protests and obtaining pointless court injunctions.

The DSS, however, vowed that it would cooperate with all pertinent institutions, people, and groups to make sure that the inauguration went as smoothly and effectively as President Muhammadu Buhari had promised.

The secret police therefore issued a warning to those attempting to thwart Nigerian democracy to cease their cunning plans and orchestrations.

However, some Nigerians have taken to the microblogging site Twitter to criticize the secret police for preparing to detain demonstrators who are peacefully opposed to Bola Tinubu’s declaration as the country’s next president.

Additionally, some internet users criticized the DSS for issuing a statement to warn those plotting to impose an interim government rather than gathering proof and bringing those responsible to justice.

Couple realizes they are cousins after 17-year marriage, three kids

Celina and Joseph Quinones, a couple from the United States who have been married for seventeen years and have three children, recently made the shocking discovery that they are actually related to one another.

Following the completion of a family tree DNA test, the couple revealed that they came to the conclusion that they are related.

When Celina Quinones made the decision to investigate her family tree, she and her husband, Joseph Quinones, had been together for seventeen years and had been married for more than ten years.

In the course of her investigation, she found out that Joseph was her cousin.
She divulged the information about how the couple discovered that they were more than just man and wife through a TikTok post that she published under the handle @realestatemommas.

She wrote, “In 2006, my husband and I got married.” Without giving it much thought, we ended up having three children. It turned out that we were related and were actually cousins.

After that, Celina urged other couples to investigate their family histories.

The video clip quickly gained over four million views after going viral, and many viewers have expressed disapproval of the couple’s decision to remain married while suggesting that they should end their relationship.

She said it was “devastating” when she found out her husband was actually also her cousin, but she claims that their love is stronger than ever and that she has ignored negative comments suggesting that they divorce.

In her letter, she stated, “It wasn’t until three kids in that I realized we were related.” I took my DNA test in 2016, if memory serves, and the results were devastating. I remember asking my boyfriend, “babe, if we’re related, are we even supposed to be together?” This is very strange. It gave me the creeps in a big way.

“If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t change a thing… Inseparable until death do us part! There is a rationale behind why successful couples have a similar appearance. I’m just over here trying to get more people to pay attention.”

She wrote in an email that they had “looked past it” because “my kids and my husband are my everything,” which is how she explained how they had moved on from the news. Every one of our children has ten fingers and ten toes. It’s a great way to break the ice, lol.”
