The abductors contacted Omoniyi Eleyinmi’s family, friends, and acquaintances, the Faculty Officer in the varsity’s Faculty of Education, and demanded a ransom of N100 million.

However, following extensive pleading and haggling, the gunmen agreed to take N7 million in exchange for giving the family a day to make the payment.

However, Eleyinmi was rescued on Sunday when his family paid the gunmen an undisclosed amount to free him.

According to sources, the suspects were apprehended during the ransom exchange.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olayinka Ayanlade, the spokesperson for the Police Command in Ondo State, confirmed the occurrence, saying: “I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of two AAUA lecturers.”

“The suspects are being profiled and questioned at the moment.

“In the interim, CP Adebowale Lawal, the Commissioner of Police for the Ondo State Police Command, has instructed that the suspects and all recovered exhibits be turned over to the Anti-kidnapping Squad for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.”

EFCC Allegedly Serving APC’s Interests by Targeting Opposition, Says ADC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been charged by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a political tool against opposition MPs.
The ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, claimed in a statement on Monday that the EFCC’s recent actions—such as calling in opposition members and revisiting previous cases—were driven by political goals.
As a brave guardian of the Nigerian people’s confidence, the EFCC was established to enforce the law equally to all parties, whether they were allies or adversaries, the ruling party or the opposition. According to Abdullahi, “that vision seems to have been compromised today.”
The anti-graft agency had broken with impartiality, according to the ADC, and was now acting as “a department of the APC, deployed to fight government critics and opposition figures.”

Additionally, it charged that the EFCC had abandoned investigations against APC supporters while chasing opposition leaders with tenacity.

“The EFCC’s investigations into his administration have never been seen by the public again since a certain former governor defected to the APC with the entire political apparatus of his state. Nobody has posed a question. There was no document leak. Absolutely no updates. Party affiliation, not proof, seems to determine one’s guilt or innocence in modern-day Nigeria, Abdullahi stated.

The Nigerians, not the APC, own the EFCC.
The ADC said that the EFCC’s and Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts’ credibility was being harmed by the apparent partisanship.

“The EFCC is not an APC member. Nigerians are the rightful owners. The opposition party, represented by Abdullahi, emphasized that taxpayers, not the ruling party, are funding it.

He issued a warning, saying that utilizing public institutions to impose political will weakens democracy and increases public mistrust.

Protecting national institutions from political takeover is something that the ADC recommended stakeholders to do.

“This dangerous trend is eroding public trust in the institution and undermining the real fight against corruption. We must not allow public institutions to be hijacked for partisan objectives,” the party declared.

Gunmen reportedly carried out another deadly attack in the early hours of Monday, August 11, which has caused tension in the Benue State village of Yelwata.

According to reports, the irate locals demanded to be moved to Makurdi, the state capital, claiming they no longer felt comfortable in their houses.
One of the demonstrators said, “They should take us to Makurdi because the government cannot protect us,” according to the report.

Monday’s event was believed to have occurred less than two months after a nighttime attack in the same hamlet on June 13 that claimed the lives of over 200 people, including internally displaced people, and was purportedly carried out by armed herders.

That incident, which stunned the country and received international condemnation, reportedly burned many people alive.

As of the time this news was filed, authorities had not yet released an official comment regarding the most recent occurrence.

EFCC Raid Sparks Legal Threat from Obasanjo Presidential Library

0

Regarding Sunday’s raid on the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the administration has vowed to file a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Following a Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party at the OOPL, Rounda fun spot, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 officers attacked the venue at around two in the morning on Sunday, arrested ninety-three young people, and confiscated eighteen vehicles and mobile gadgets.

A widely shared video caught some of the young people running for their lives during the nighttime raid.

Credible intelligence regarding the youths’ potential involvement in online crimes led to the raid, according to a statement published by the EFCC on its official X account.

In a statement that reporters were able to get, Vitalis Ortese, the Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, responded to the incident by stating that the operators had over fifty armed men enter the facility, shooting firearms and threatening to kill individuals.

He bemoaned how the invasion, spearheaded by one “Olapade,” created chaos and fear, resulting in severe injuries to those attempting to flee the shooting.

In addition to violating OOPL’s rights as a corporate citizen, Ortese characterized the action as a glaring and flagrant violation of the rights of the attendees of the event and a clear case of invasion of private property.

A group of more than fifty armed men, resembling the Gestapo, stormed the OOPL premises this morning at around two in the morning, threatening to kill individuals, brandishing firearms, and claiming to be from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the statement.

In addition to causing fear among locals, the invasion, spearheaded by one ‘Olapade,’ resulted in severe panic and confusion, as well as catastrophic injuries to participants attempting to flee the ensuing shooting and near-carnage.

The “Olapade” told Mr. Vitalis Ortese, the Managing Director of the OOPL establishment, over the phone that they were responding to an intelligence report on a private event in the complex’s amusement center. The police have been properly notified of the operation, they also told management.

However, it should be mentioned that the event was private and had been heavily publicized for days before. Notably, the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates and the additional police officers dispatched from the Kemta Police Station at the request of the event organizers and management indicated that they were not notified of any EFCC-planned operation and did not produce a warrant.

“And OOPL security and supporting police officers just said, ‘We are doing our job,’ when the armed guys were confronted.

The EFCC’s action, according to management, is an obvious violation of the rights of the persons who attended the event, a clear case of invasion of private property, and an infringement of OOPL’s rights as corporate citizens.

The statement called for an explanation and an apology from the EFCC officials for violating its and the people’s rights, and it also stated that an investigation into the invasion was still underway.

If the anti-graft agency doesn’t provide the apology and explanation, it has threatened to file a lawsuit.

“Management requests that the commission provide an explanation for these egregious acts and that the EFCC authorities apologize for violating its rights, as well as to all those who attended and suffered severe injuries from the gangster-like chaos.”

According to the statement, “if there is a failure, the management will be forced to seek appropriate redress and sanctions.”

Five people were killed in an attack on the Babanla community in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area by gunmen, including a police officer named Adejumo Wasiu.
In what locals described as an unexpected and fatal raid, the attackers overran the community, leaving a trail of despair and terror in their wake.
To find the attackers, a rapidly organized squad of Nigerian Army soldiers, police officers, Department of State Services (DSS) employees, and neighborhood vigilantes was sent in.
Due to the violence, many inhabitants were compelled to flee their houses and seek safety in nearby settlements in order to avoid more attacks.

The Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the attack on Sunday.

On August 8, 2025, hundreds of armed criminals on motorcycles stormed into the Babanla community in the Ifelodun local government region, attacked the divisional police headquarters, and conducted a market raid, according to the statement.

Five individuals, including a police officer named Adejumo Wasiu, were killed by the attackers’ intermittent firing. Vigilantes, police officers, Nigeria Army soldiers, and local hunters responded quickly and concertedly to resist the onslaught, restore order, and launch a full-scale manhunt for the attackers.
In order to assess the security situation, the statement further stated that Adekimi Ojo, the commissioner of police for Kwara State Command, and the director of the Department of State Services (DSS) for Kwara State Command visited Babanla on-site.

The traditional Babanla monarch, His Royal Highness Oba Yusuf Aliyu Alabi Arojojoye II, visited with them.

“They had high-level talks with the goal of enhancing interagency and community-security cooperation and solidifying peace.” The combined security delegation visited the market, the divisional police headquarters, and other important places in the neighborhood to make sure that everything has returned to normal.

At the same time, the DSS promised ongoing intelligence assistance to capture all of the attackers. In cooperation with sister security services, the command reaffirms its steadfast dedication to protecting people and property throughout Kwara State. It is advised that locals maintain their composure, be alert, and assist security forces by giving reliable information.

Jonathan, Makinde Could Enter 2027 PDP Race as Party Plans Zoning Formula Announcement

0

Everything is now ready for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition party, to announce on August 25, 2025, the zoning formula it would use for the general election in 2027.
The zoning committee, which is headed by Senator Duoye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, is scheduled to meet this week in Abuja to discuss the assignment, barring any unanticipated events, according to the PDP’s calendar of events.

As reported by The Nigerian Tribune, the letter, which was signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Honourable Umar M. Bature, stated that the events will take place between August 24 and December.
According to Section 7(2)(c) of the party’s constitution, the zoning principles are as follows: “The party shall follow the policy of rotation and zoning of party and public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice, and fairness.”

The PDP’s major stakeholders have received copies of the program detailing the events leading up to the national convention in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, which is scheduled for November 15–16.

Separate sessions of the PDP’s National Caucus and National Working Committee (NWC) will kick off the main events on August 24.

The NWC will specifically discuss matters for the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which is set for August 25.

The meeting will be centered on reviewing and adopting the Diri-led zoning committee’s resolution, according to the document.

Additional key tasks highlighted in the documents include holding party primaries to select candidates for elections and holding congresses at the ward, local, state, and zonal levels to form executives who will be overseen by the PDP’s state and national executive committees.

Members of the zoning committee will meet in Abuja on Thursday, August 14, according to sources who spoke to The Nigerian Tribune, to suggest a zoning formula that will be submitted to the NEC for approval.

The governors of Oyo and Bauchi states, Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, respectively, have been tipped to enter the race, and there are some rumors that the zoning formula will be revealed in the midst of growing speculation about the potential return of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, former national vice chairman Eddy Olufeso stated that the PDP was making every effort to reclaim its top spot in the country’s political hierarchy.

“We are in good preparation,” he remarked. We are making every effort to pull the nation out of its current predicament by clearly identifying its problems and making sure that we provide answers. We are resolute, and because we are the underdog, we will have a lot of time to consider these issues and improve our collaboration with the Nigerian people.

Because our party has a strong historical foundation, we always know where to go and when. Our commitment is really strong.

When asked if the PDP should choose a candidate from the North or the South for president, Olafeso responded, “If the presidency comes from the South, definitely the national chairman will not come from the South.”

Regarding whether Umar Ilya Damagum, the interim national chairman, ought to run for substantive chairmanship, he stated: “He has the right to contest.” But the world has the last say. The PDP is a party of the people, not just one person.

Sowore Mocks Amaechi’s Pledge to End Corruption in a Month, Calls Him ‘Fool at 40’

Omoyele Sowore, a politician and human rights advocate, has criticized Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, for saying that if elected president, he could eradicate corruption in Nigeria in just one month.

The statement was made during a talk on X Space by Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He maintained that his political will and leadership style would be enough to quickly eradicate corruption.

However, citing Amaechi’s lengthy political career as proof that his pledge lacked credibility, Sowore rejected the remark as being both unachievable and hypocritical. Sowore charged Amaechi with political deceit in a video that was uploaded to SaharaReporters, saying:

“Amaechi promised to eradicate corruption within a month. Amaechi has 16 years of experience, having served as Speaker for 8 years and Governor for 8 years. He served as Minister for eight years, for a total of twenty-four years. What would you say if you took 24 out of 60? A fool at forty will always be a fool.

Sowore maintained that Amaechi had plenty of opportunity to fight corruption after decades in positions of considerable authority, but he fell short. He said that such impromptu campaign pledges were a betrayal of Nigerians’ intelligence.

The former presidential contender also emphasized the importance of being vigilant and exercising critical thinking, warning young Nigerians not to believe political hyperbole at face value. He underlined that Nigeria’s political system had continuously replaced leaders who contributed to the issue rather than solving it.

“They’re all lying to you. Indeed, we have options and will take part, but we are not constrained by any one of them because we are short on time,” Sowore stated.

He also bemoaned the short window of time that young people have to take control of the nation’s future and urged them to take advantage of it. Sowore observed that young people in Nigeria were being prematurely aged by the country’s severe socioeconomic environment.

“Time is running out. You may be young now, but you won’t be that way forever. Some young people from Nigeria tell me they are 24 when I encounter them, and I question whether we are the same age. They no longer appear their age because of the system,” he continued.

Many Nigerians now doubt the legitimacy of political pledges made by long-serving public officials in response to Sowore’s comments, which have generated new internet discussion.

‘Soname Will Feel It in His Business’ – KWAM 1 Fires at ValueJet Boss

The well-known artist from Fuji, Wasiu Ayinde, has been embroiled in a new scandal following the release of a leaked audio recording in which he threatened ValueJet airline owner Kunle Soname, claiming the businessman “will feel me in his business.”
Only a few hours had passed since the singer’s public apology for his disruptive behavior at the Abuja airport earlier in the week.
According to the claim, the artist almost got hit by a ValueJet plane on Tuesday morning when he tried to stop it from taking off. Prior to this, he was deboarded for allegedly breaking aviation regulations.
Social media users widely condemned the incident, which resulted in the aircraft’s pilot being suspended.

The musician was put on a no-fly list by the Airline Operators of Nigeria in retaliation, which prevented him from traveling on member airlines’ flights.

The artist, also known as KWAM 1, apologized to his fans, the airline, and all parties involved in a video published on Friday in response to the controversy.

However, the musician reportedly described what happened on the recorded recording that is currently making the rounds online, accusing ValueJet of embarrassing him in public.

He threatened Soname directly on the recording after warning that no one “messes with me and gets away with it.”

K1 said in Yoruba, “You won’t want to see me shut down because I’m a patient who needs water every second.” Let them swear on how the incident occurred using the Bible and the Quran. The pilot urged that I not bring the water flask inside after advising them not to make it a national issue. “Don’t let him go,” she said to one of them. And I replied, “Nobody is going if that’s how you want it.”

“I opened the flask and emptied the contents for everyone to see when they began to assemble. Your employer, Soname, is “omo mi ni,” or “my boy.” I promise Soname in government. I’m Wasiu Ayinde, and no one gets away with it because I didn’t try to cause trouble, skip the line, or do anything improper, but all I heard was, “You can’t go on our flight.” Soname will sense me in his business, even though I don’t want to take that flight ever again.

‘Neglecting Your Child Got Your US Visa Blocked’ – Alleged Baby Mama Taunts Cubana Chiefpriest

Another jab at Nigerian socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, has come from Kenyan woman Hellen Mutimu.
Recall that the nightlife entrepreneur was turned down for a US visa to Miami to attend his close pal Davido’s wedding.
Helen made fun of him, saying he might only reach America in his fantasies, in a recent post.

She linked his alleged denial of a visa to his refusal to submit to a DNA test to establish her son’s paternity.

She said his “ways are blocked” because he has neglected what she called his “flesh and blood,” and she urged him to “use his brain.”

“Pascal okechukwu, you never see anything, you’re not going to America, maybe in your dreams see, I told you that if you come for DNA, maybe you will be able to go to that America, but because you have neglected your flesh and blood that’s why your ways are blocked, use your brain man,” she said on her Instagram story.

The Cubana Chief Priest has refuted Helen’s repeated claims that she became pregnant after a one-night rendezvous with him in Nigeria.

Although she is demanding a DNA test, he insisted that she previously turned down his invitation to travel to Nigeria for the test and instead requested financial support.

Iweala, who is scheduled to attend, urged African countries to take advantage of the occasion to use their cultural and creative resources for faster trade and economic development.
