Under the auspices of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service, about 1,200 hunters from all Local Government Areas in Osun State have finished a four-day information collecting course.
In addition, at the exercise held on the campus of Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo, the trainees were engaged in the area of inter-agency relations, to better position them for the duty of assisting in crime prevention.
The National Provost, NHFSS, Kehinde Ogunlade, addressed the attendees during the programme’s concluding session on Monday, emphasising the necessity of training for security volunteers in order to keep them up to date on their responsibilities.
In a similar vein, Ahmed Nureni, the NHFSS’s Osun Commander, stated that the participants were trained by officers from the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Immigration Service.
“We had 1,200 hunters come from all around Osun State for the 4-day training,” Nureni added. Officers from the Nigeria Police Osun State Command, the NSCDC, the DSS, and the Immigration Service were present to instruct our soldiers on their responsibilities.
“The participants were divided into groups, and the trainers led them through various parts of our job.”
“More importantly, they were instructed on how to interact with traditional security groups in order to get the best results in maintaining the environment secure for state inhabitants.” We also underwent intelligence gathering training.
“We hope to do this on a regular basis.” It is part of our ambitions for hunters in this state. We are familiar with the entire state as well as the surrounding forests. We have decided to contribute our part by supporting conventional security companies, but we cannot do so unless we have the necessary knowledge.”
