Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, has explained why he chose not to file a legal challenge against President Bill Tinubu’s election victory like other opposition parties did.

He stated that he did not believe that justice would have been served if he had done so, adding that he had no faith in the tribunal because it had never previously rendered justice in election-related matters.

Asked why Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the presidential candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, would believe their case would be exceptional, Sowore responded that the courts in Nigeria had never annulled an election in the nation while fielding questions on Arise News.
His response came in response to the presidential election petition tribunal’s decision on Wednesday. President Bole Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election on February 25 had been upheld by the tribunal.

Recall that Obi and Atiku both contested Tinubu’s victory in court along with their respective parties. But yesterday, the tribunal invalidated their claims while confirming Tinubu’s victory.
Sowore responded, “What you’re saying about the Labour Party and the PDP is what people like us have always said—that they’re the same.

We don’t belong to that coalition or alliance. In addition, when someone steals your property and you try to recover it from him but he refuses, go to court. You need to wait until the court starts.

But I’m not likely to go to the same court when I’m cheated on this scale because it gave you a governor who finished fourth in Imo state. I can’t tell you that I have implicit or explicit confidence in the court because it hasn’t done justice for people like me since I was born in this nation.

“If you go to court, you can almost predict what would happen there.”

Further information revealed that the AAC candidate noted that opposition parties are frequently persuaded to file lawsuits in an effort to pacify Nigerians.
“In Nigeria, a presidential election has never been declared invalid by the courts,” he continued. Even in 2007, when there were no serial numbers on the ballots, the court ruled that you don’t need them, and Yar’Adua, the candidate for whom the election was rigged by President Olusegun Obasanjo, publicly declared that this election was problematic. Regardless, he took the booty.

So, in my opinion, we shouldn’t go to a court that might not be able to or hasn’t rendered justice in cases like ours in the past.

To calm Nigerians’ nerves and get them to accept this nonsense as a fait accompli, I believe the reason they are asking these people to appear in court.Furthermore, they made sure there were no street uprisings to reclaim the stolen mandate from any rigged elections they held.

Daniel Bwala, an attorney who also serves as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s campaign for president in 2023, has rebuked those who assert that he is only backing his principal because of the financial incentives.

Bwala said that he thinks it is absurd when his detractors mention Atiku’s wealth whenever he posts his opinions on social media, in an interview with X on Thursday morning.
He asserted that, in contrast to what his detractors believe, he is not an unemployed politician and that, among other things, he has a successful law practice.
Since Atiku is someone he respects and to whom he would always be loyal, Bwala said he decided to support his campaign for president.

Bwala claims, “One of the ridiculous things I read on social media from people whenever I post my opinion on any given subject they are uncomfortable with is ‘Atiku’s money,’ ‘cash out,’ etc. funny. The presidency has informed former President Olusegun Obasanjo that he will not be the one to decide whether or not Nigeria’s oil refineries will operate.

The former leader asserted that he attempted to restart Nigeria’s oil refineries but was unsuccessful, and he suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s plan to do the same will not succeed.

During an exclusive interview with TheCable, Obasanjo revealed that he had twice served as president of Nigeria, first as the country’s military head of state from 1976 to 1979 and then as a civilian president elected by the people between 1999 and 2007.

“Someone said Tinubu said refineries would operate by December. I explained that the refineries wouldn’t operate to the person. The information I received from Shell while I was president is the basis for this, Obasanjo said.

Obasanjo, according to the presidency, is not an engineer or expert in these fields, so he is not in a position to make decisions about Nigeria’s oil refineries.

President Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, stated that what Obasanjo said was just his opinion.

Because Tinubu relied on engineers’ projections to make his statement about the refineries, Ajayi advised Obasanjo to wait until December and see what transpires.

Olusegun Obasanjo, former president, is not an engineer, with all due respect. He isn’t the engineer who works at the refineries.

Ajayi said this in a Daily Trust segment titled “Analyzing the First 100 Days of President Tinubu” and under the heading, “So, the engineers and the NNPC gave the president a report and they have said that it will work by December this year.”

About four months remain before the end. I’ll say this with all due respect to the former president, who is a wise elder and our father, and with the understanding that what he said represents his own personal viewpoint.

I’d rather trust the engineering expertise of the refinery’s staff. I believe it would be best to hold off until December.

After the ongoing rehabilitation contract between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Italian company, Maire Tecnimont SpA, is finished, President Tinubu stated in August that the petroleum refinery in Port Harcourt will begin producing by December 2023.

If Tinubu follows through on his promise to revive the refinery, Nigeria will be less dependent on importing oil and using foreign refineries.

The refineries were completely shut down in 2021 after producing little to no fuel for the previous ten years, according to NNPCL, who has been working to modernize them.
