Osun APC, PDP trade words over Adeleke’s performance

0

The local branch of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has leveled accusations against the state’s Governor, Ademola Adeleke, saying that he is concealing the truth about the accomplishments of his administration.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the state chairman of the party, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, it was recalled that Adeleke, in his capacity as a guest at the 16th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service held at Love of Christ Generation Church, C & S, Victoria Island, Lagos, last Sunday, reeled out some of the projects that were unknown to his administration and some that were executed by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

According to the APC, Adeleke spoke about fictitious projects as well as those of his predecessor, which garnered him accolades from Olusegun Obasanjo, who praised him for mixing active public duty with dancing.

In continuation of his response, Lawal stated, “It is not an understatement to proclaim that Adeleke does not warrant any honors for any reason as he is yet to prove his mettle that he has what it takes to properly manage Osun State.”

“One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be a man and bold enough to tell former President Obasanjo that the rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Ikirun road, which his administration has been laying claim of having completed within 100 days in office, was already completed by 75 per cent by the administration of former Governor Oyetola. However, this did not happen. ” “One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be a man.”

“One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be truthful enough to inform the former President that the foundation of the Ilesa University was one of the landmark achievements of the immediate-past governor of the state,” the author writes. “One would have expected Governor Adeleke to tell the former President that the founding of the Ilesa University was one of the landmark achievements.”

But in response to the APC chairman’s claim, the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in the state, Sunday Bisi, criticized the APC for trying to minimize Adeleke’s performance and noted that the position of the opposition party would not change the fact that the current administration has accomplished a great deal.

Bisi stated that, “For Sooko Lawal, he will go down as a politician who is always at war with the truth no matter how blatant it is.” He took his well-known propensity for bending truth to the most disgusting height by openly contesting the lines of achievements of Governor Adeleke in the last ten months. This elevated his behavior to the level of most despicable.

“It is illogical, if not insanity, for Sooko Lawal and the APC to refuse Governor Adeleke the credit for the construction of the 10 kilometer Osogbo-Ikirun dual carriage road. The road is a dual carriageway. In contrast to the misleading position taken by Sooko Lawal, the road is in the condition it is in today because of the pragmatic leadership of Governor Adeleke, which was duly acknowledged by the contractor handling the project. If it hadn’t been for Governor Adeleke’s leadership, the road could have suffered the same fate as many other projects that were abandoned during the Oyetola administration.

“While we empathize with the APC for lacking the character and capacity to appropriately carry out its opposition role, we must caution that it would be making a grave mistake to imagine that it can hoodwink the public with lies and reckless stance that seems to define its strategy lately. This would be a terrible mistake,”

“You’re Not Abuja Governor”: FCT Senator Tackles Wike Over 8 Appointments

0

Abuja FCT – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senator Ireti Kingibe has warned Nyesom Wike, the FCT’s coordinating minister, against exceeding his jurisdiction without seeking approval from the national legislature.

According to reports, Kingibe requested that the National Assembly carry out the legislative functions for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in a way that is comparable to how the House Assembly carries out these functions for the state government.

She also criticized the nomination of mandate secretaries who reside outside the FCT, citing a recent private conversation she had with one of them in which she discovered to her dismay that the mandate secretary had no idea of the location of Kwali, one of the FCT’s area councils.

Kingibe claimed that because Wike was new to the FCT, he needed direction in order to carry out his responsibilities as the FCT Minister.

Regarding her friendship with Wike, Senator Kingibe remarked, “You must keep in mind that the minister and I have distinct objectives. Since I was elected by the people, he is not accountable to you, the people of the FCT. But I’m hoping that by working together, our interests can converge.

“I can’t push myself in front of the minister. The Senate is now on recess, so keep that in mind. As a lawmaker, I am. I have been absent. Therefore, they are not authorizing anything since a house that is not in session cannot grant approval.

“Last night, the election tribunal confirmed my election as a senator for the federal capital territory. That I may now begin the task that the FCT people chose me to accomplish makes me feel incredibly relieved. I’d like to start by thanking the best legal team and attorneys anyone could have. I’m incredibly fortunate to have had them.

“I have been so involved in my case, and the minister is brand new. It has not yet happened. When he called to congratulate me today (Tuesday), it was the first time we had spoken, and during that conversation, we gave each other our word that we would collaborate.

Senator Kingibe made the following statement in response to questions about possible demolitions in the FCT: “For one thing, I’m not assuring you that there will not be demolitions. Within the framework of the FCT, there are various issues. Take a look at the flooding that’s happening in the FCT—why is this happening? On flood plains and in flood channels, people are getting authorization to build estates, and houses are being constructed on flood channels themselves. There are a lot of problems that call for us to find solutions.

She cited the construction on the green areas and water ways as an example, using the Trademore estate as an illustration. She said that such would not be permitted to continue, but she added that the welfare and interests of the people living in the FCT would be maintained.

The ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) cannot have a special status was something that she and the other natives of the FCT were aware of.

“After the question has been resolved by the Supreme Court and if the same position is maintained, then we will agitate for a governor, three senators, and other status of a state; nevertheless, for the time being, let the problem remain as it is.”

N7 Trillion Uncovered”: Inside Details of Tinubu Panel’s Probe of Emefiele-Led CBN

0

FCT Abuja – New information has started to surface as a result of the ongoing investigation into the allegedly fraudulent activities that occurred during the nine years that Godwin Emefiele was the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. According to reports, Jim Obazee, a forensic auditor and former CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), is in charge of overseeing the ongoing special investigations.

Nigerians may soon witness the disclosure of the largest financial fraud in the history of the country, according to an early report on TheNigerianNews, as the team of special investigators established by Tinubu to look into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and related entities race against time to uncover a slew of crimes estimated to be worth over N7 trillion.

With a focus on the actions of the apex bank and associated entities under the governor, Godwin Emefiele, who is presently on suspension, the investigators are making every effort to untangle the web of frauds allegedly committed over the course of the last nine years.

Remember that President Bola Tinubu appointed Jim Obazee, a forensic auditor and former Chief Executive of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), as the “Special Investigator” of the CBN and linked entities in July. While the specifics of Obazee’s involvement were kept private, the President claimed that Emefiele’s letter of suspension was attached to the letter that Tinubu himself signed.

Exact one month ago, reporters for The News reported that the squad had expanded to include top-tier fraud detectives and auditors from Nigeria. In addition, it was claimed that the team had detained and released on bail officials from CBN consulting businesses while they were interrogating important bank executives.

Following the report’s release, the Department of State Security detained Kingsley Obiora and Aisha Ahmad, two deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, in connection with their participation in the bank’s activities during Emefiele’s nine-year presidency.

According to recent updates from several sources with knowledge of the operations, the team is reportedly examining documents, notes, and oral confessions that may lead to additional arrests in the upcoming days.

Some of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions abroad in the Gulf region allegedly took part in some of the “illegal activities” in an attempt to desperately excuse the financial crimes, according to certain sources that TheNigerian was unable to independently verify.

Although it is not yet clear to what extent international financial watchdogs are involved in the investigation, there are indications that they may contact a number of foreign institutions as the inquiry gains momentum.

Inquiries of some directors who “must have had active roles in sanctioning some of the deals” have already raised concerns at regulator offices across the country.

The panel’s main objective, according to a reliable source, was to wrap up the investigation and submit a report on “how the financial system was mismanaged and the regulations were compromised so that the President could decide what to do to clean up the system,” despite concerns that some people will be detained in the coming weeks.

In his inaugural speech, Tinubu promised a “housecleaning” at the monetary authority. A few weeks later, Emefiele was put on leave and then jailed for a number of charges. At a town hall meeting for the diaspora, the President referred to the financial system Emefiele controlled for nine years as “rotten.”

However, it is doubtful whether the President has a complete knowledge of how corrupt the system is in light of the panel’s findings. Top bank owners and their friends who are acting as chief executives are allegedly actively involved in the rot that Obazee and his colleagues are working around the clock to unearth.

According to sources, the panel has pledged to look into every scenario in an effort to hold the culprits accountable. Obazee had a reputation as a direct and unyielding regulator during his time at the FRC. He reportedly refused bank CEOs who offered bribes in an effort to get him to approve financial statements that weren’t accurate.

Unfounded reports claimed that he had declined housing and other gifts in order to purge the system. Because of his steadfast position on regulatory issues, he gained the nickname “Super Regulator” in the banking sector. When he took action against general overseers of churches in an effort to maintain the FRC’s Code of Conduct for not-for-profit organizations, which led to his abrupt removal from the organization, the pressure of politicking hit him hard.

The Executive Branch, including the President, is already exerting comparable pressure on the group he leads. People who are “very close to the President” are apparently using covert and cunning actions to limit or sway the panel’s work.

“Quickly understanding that it transcends politics and that the team wants to act morally and in the best interests of the public,” they said. Therefore, they want to influence or limit the investigations. However, a source argued that this is difficult because the task has already started and everyone is aware of it, adding that the team is solely accountable to the President and Nigerians.

The probe was decided to be limited since, according to information acquired, it is already focusing on a few of the President’s business and political allies.

According to The Guardian, Tinubu reportedly told the team earlier to find the problem’s root cause no matter who had their ox gored. According to sources, the President’s assistance will allow the group to continue its work.
There are worries that the President would be forced to accede to the demands of influential businesses and politicians, whose names have already been mentioned as potential offenders in the unfolding drama. But if criminal proceedings are allowed to start and are successful, it is rumored that Obazee already has enough suspect dossiers to throw a lot of people in jail.

According to a number of reports, the investigation focuses on payments made by the CBN through its numerous intervention programs and management of foreign exchange.

The investigating team asserts to have uncovered scams of over N7 trillion in relation to the CBN chief, who is currently under criticism. Numerous bank presidents apparently also faced questions regarding their participation in a number of the deals.

Despite the possibility that there is considerably more money involved, at least N7 trillion has been located so far. It is an ongoing project. TheNigerian reports that new information on the odd crimes committed by those in charge of managing the nation’s economy is becoming available every day.

In a conversation with our correspondent yesterday, a person acquainted with the intense strain the investigators have been under said that those directly involved in the investigation are “ready to buy anybody” given their desire to avoid accountability.

Additionally, incidences concerning the erasure of evidence within and outside of CBN buildings, commencing with Emefiele’s incarceration, were brought to its attention. Attempts to pinpoint precisely how some of the frauds were committed and some ongoing investigations have reportedly slowed significantly as a result.

As “conspirators” come under the spotlight, uncertainty about the extent of the inquiry is swiftly spreading throughout the banking industry. TheNigerian is still unable to access Obazee’s complete employee list. Most of the famous persons come from strong backgrounds in forensic auditing, international finance, banking, and fraud detection. Some have previously worked with the CBN on other projects, such consulting.

“In the next weeks, heads will roll all over the place. The level of institutional corruption that was apparent could not have come from one person. If so, then none of his associates could have been saints. I don’t know the extent of the repercussions that will follow, but I can guarantee you that a lot of people will not go unpunished, the insider told The Guardian on August 4, 2023.

The same source highlighted on Wednesday that Obiora and Ahmad’s arrest and questioning in the weeks since the inquiry began was the only way Nigerians could understand the level of the system’s corruption.

Obazee apparently kept a safe distance from even his longstanding friends after accepting the mission. According to a close acquaintance, he possessed a shield-like style that was distinctive of him.
Despite our best attempts, he won’t pick up the phone.

Total blackout as Nigeria’s power grid collapses

0

Following the complete failure of Nigeria’s energy grid early on Thursday morning, there is a widespread blackout throughout the whole nation.

On September 14, 2023, at about 12:40 in the morning, the grid reportedly fully failed, severely disrupting the nation’s electricity distribution systems.

On Thursday morning, our correspondent received confirmation of the news from numerous sources in the power industry as well as electricity distribution firms.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc published a warning on Thursday headlined “warning of Total System Collapse.”

The notification read, “The EEDC desires to notify her esteemed consumers of a total system meltdown which occurred at 12:40 am today, September 14, 2023.

The network is currently experiencing a loss of supply as a result of this. This situation leaves all of our interface TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria) stations without supply, preventing us from serving our customers in the states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.

We’re on alert while we wait for more information from the National Control Center in Osogbo about the supply collapse and restoration.

Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, signed the notification.

The TCN, which oversees Nigeria’s grid, is yet to comment on the situation.

A week ago, the transmission company celebrated what it called 400 days of stable electrical grid operation in Nigeria, claiming that throughout that time, there had been no grid collapses.

NSC’s dispute settlement saved N2.4b over five years – official

0

According to the Nigerian Shippers Council, its complaints processing procedure has saved stakeholders N2.4 billion over the last five years.

Mr Rotimi Anifowose, the NSC’s Director of Planning, stated this recently in Lagos, when the council received the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola.

According to Anifowose, the Port Service Support Portal is where the council collects complaints from regulated service providers and users.

Anifowose went on to say that among the complaints were arbitrary charges, container deposit refunds, and import and export fraud, among other things.

He also stated that the council’s creation of the Nigerian Ports Process Manual saved the country an average of $20,000 per day in vessel demurrage between 2021 and 2022.

“We have applied the Nigerian Port Process Manual and the International Cargo Tracking Note.” The council, as the principal agency in implementing the NPPM, oversaw the actions connected to joint vessel boarding, joint cargo examination, and the Operation Free the Corridor initiative. This amounted to $12.4 million, or N5.4 billion at the official exchange rate in 2022.

“The council is encouraging the digitisation and automation of all port procedures in Nigeria in order to reduce the instances of human touch in cargo transportation and eliminate manual documentation for efficient service delivery.” This led in the digitization of all processes by shipping and port service providers,” Anifowose noted.

Earlier, the minister expressed enthusiasm for the International Cargo Tracking Note, which was hosted by the Shippers Council, and stated that his administration will promote its implementation to enable effective cargo monitoring and transportation.

“Also, the port community system platform, which serves as a single point of contact for all actors in the sector, would facilitate doing business.” As a result, it is something we would strongly consider. I’ve been looking at the situation of our ports, and it’s really disappointing. “I’m not blaming anyone because the ports are ancient,” he said.

FG shortlists 42 companies for commercialization program: Gas flaring

0

The Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme will begin in 2022, the Federal Government stated on Wednesday, and 42 companies have received letters of award.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission made this announcement in a statement that was released in Abuja.

“The NUPRC hereby announces the outcome of the bidding exercise and issuance of letters of award to 42 companies/entities deemed successful in the fiercely contested bid for 49 flare sites put forward during the 2022 Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme auction process,” the statement said in part.

“For the creation of 40 independent single-flare sites, 38 of the companies/entities have received awards; for the development of nine cluster sites, four have received awards.

For the associated flare locations, “Reserve bidders’ status has also been granted to some organizations in the event the preferred bidders fail to meet the criteria and conditions required in the RFP (Request for Proposal).”

Award letters, according to the NUPRC, have already been sent to the relevant successful entities via the proper channels.

In order to comply with the Petroleum Industry Act’s requirements and to take into account the current operational and economic conditions in Nigeria, the NUPRC reorganized the gas flare commercialization project and re-launched it in the third quarter of 2022.

According to the commission, multiple interactions with pertinent parties were responsible for the NGFCP bid process’ notable success.

Among the players, according to the report, are domestic investors, foreign development organizations, oil and gas producers, technological companies, and financial institutions.

According to the upstream oil industry regulator, “The commission’s engagements were to energize and maintain interest in the program, attract investments, and drive participation by local and foreign organizations.”

It stated that 300 businesses/entities expressed interest in submitting a Statement of Qualification as new participants or revalidating their pre-qualification status as current participants in response to the Request for Qualification published in the fourth quarter of last year.

Following the review of SOQs, 139 applicants in total were chosen as qualified applicants and given that status. In order to allow competent candidates to put together their respective bids for any of the 49 flare sites on offer, the commission subsequently issued the Request for Proposal in the first quarter of 2023.

“88 entities, comprising individual enterprises and consortiums replied to the RFP and submitted a total of 137 proposals,” according to the NUPRC. “Each proposal contained technical, commercial, and financial paperwork for one or more of the 49 flare locations for either standalone or cluster development.”

The proposal evaluations were properly completed by the commission, and clearance was obtained to name 38 firms and entities as the successful bidders for 40 sites for freestanding, single-flare site developments and four companies and entities for nine sites to be developed as clusters.

In the event that the preferred bidders are unable to comply with the RFP’s terms and conditions, other companies were also granted reserve bidder status for the appropriate flare sites.

According to the statement, “at this point, the preferred bidders would separately proceed to negotiate the series of commercial agreements with pertinent parties and effect payment of the specified award fees to enable the awarding of permit to access flare gas by the commission.”

The upstream regulator announced that KPMG, a global network of professional firms, had been given the go-ahead to collaborate with the commission in carrying out the award in order to ensure the commercialization of gas flare-outs was carried out successfully.

The commission thanked the winning bidders and encouraged them to continue with the program’s final stages in order to get permits and carry out viable projects that would use flare gas to generate value.

Tinubu: Over 6,000 family members of Slain soldiers to get insurance claims

0

The president, Bola Tinubu, ordered the Group Life Insurance claims, which will benefit no less than 6,732 relatives of Nigerian Army personnel.

The recipients are the kin of those who died in duty between 2011 and 2022.

During a conversation with our correspondent on Wednesday, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, director of Army Public Relations, revealed this.

There are around 6, 732 group life insurance beneficiaries, he stated. From 2011 until 2022, this.

On Wednesday, Tinubu ordered that all unpaid Group Life Assurance payments owed to the families of fallen soldiers be made without delay, according to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

The head of the Army observed that the insurance firms declined to pay the claims because there were unpaid premiums.

In an effort to give the families of the fallen servicemen some relief, he claimed that the president had cleared all backlogs.

“We have a backlog between the years 2012 and 2022 when claims were not paid and some persons died while serving the country,” Lagbaja added. Due to the insurance companies’ lack of freedom to pay claims for unpaid premiums, the federal government decided to act now to clear the backlog and provide relief to the families of our lost colleagues.

Premium PFA reimburses contributors N216.8m for residential mortgage

0

One of the country’s pension fund administrators, Premium Pension Limited, reports that 14 of its clients who requested access to 25% of their pension resources as equity contributions for a home mortgage had been paid successfully.

The National Pension Commission’s rules on accessing Retirement Savings Account balances towards payment of equity contributions for residential mortgages for RSA holders, which were published in September 2022, were in line with this, according to a statement from the organization.

The agreement was created to make it easier for RSA holders to own a home, to strengthen the mortgage industry by supplying sustainable long-term financing, and to promote socio-economic development by reducing the persistent housing gap in the country.

The company has successfully paid the total of N216.8 million to the 14 consumers, according to the statement. The company is glad to have played and will continue to play a significant role in making this goal a reality for our members since we recognize that house ownership is a key component of financial security and retirement planning for them.

The company’s managing director and chief executive officer, Mr. Umar Mairami, made the following statement in response to this development: “The payment of equity contribution for residential mortgage has been a long-awaited development for pension contributors, and we are proud to be among the first Pension Fund Administrators to successfully implement this new guideline.

“We are thrilled to have reached this tremendous milestone,” said the team of professionals who worked nonstop to guarantee that the mortgage payments for our members were handled quickly and effectively.

He reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to helping qualified members access a portion of their pension resources in order to purchase a home that complies with the rules.

Russian Woman Dies After Whole-body Liposuction, Family Sues Clinic

0

Anna Andrea, a 47-year-old woman who had fat suctioned from every portion of her body, passed only two days after having the procedure done at a Russian facility.

A single treatment reportedly involved Andrea having fat removed from her face, neck, chin, breasts, stomach, hips, flanks, back, inner and outer thighs, buttocks, knees, calves, and ankles.

Maria Burlova, the head of the Abriell Clinic in St. Petersburg and a leading plastic surgeon in Russia, is credited with performing the treatment.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Andrea’s daughter Kira Fedora claimed that although her mother had just intended to get a facelift, she had instead been “pressured into surgery on not only her face but her complete body, which the clinic aggressively promotes.”

“We have already brought a lawsuit against this clinic,” continued Fedora. Dr. Burlova hasn’t responded.

The Russian Investigative Committee is looking into the case, and the police are looking into how the woman passed away after her condition “catastrophically” worsened two days after the treatment.

Libya floods: Nigeria is prepared to assist, says Tinubu

0

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu announced that his administration is prepared to offer the Libyan people affected by the disastrous floods that followed the Mediterranean storm Daniel on Sunday every necessary support.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, said, “Nigeria is ready to provide all necessary support to assist the Libyan people in overcoming this harrowing tragedy.”

President Tinubu expresses his condolences to Libya regarding Storm Daniel and the ensuing floods in the statement.

In the worst-affected area, the eastern port city of Derna, where more than 34,000 people were forced to flee, at least 5,300 bodies have so far been found.

The shocking death toll and destruction caused by storm Daniel, according to experts, attest not just to its intensity but also to the vulnerability of the North African state it tore apart after more than a decade of internal strife that undermined vital infrastructure.

Two dams whose maintenance histories have been questioned since the tragedy severely damaged Derna.

Only on Tuesday and Wednesday, roughly 48 hours after the catastrophe, had outside assistance from Turkey, Egypt, and Italy reached Derna.

This is due to the fact that additional foreign rescue teams and humanitarian relief organizations are anticipated in the upcoming hours.

Tinubu sent his sincere condolences to the Libyan government and people in the wake of the catastrophe.

He expressed his sympathy to all the families who had suffered the loss of a loved one in what he called a “monumental disaster.”

To everyone hurt following the unfortunate incident, he expressed his warmest wishes for a quick recovery.

Assuring the Libyan people of Nigeria’s “unwavering solidarity and goodwill during these trying times,” the Nigerian leader also said that “this disheartening loss of lives, homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure remains a shared grief that further unites the people of both nations.”
