Supreme Court begins Atiku’s appeal against Tinubu Monday

As the Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for the appeal of an election petition filed by former vice president Atiku Abubakar, the front-runner of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February presidential election, the legal struggle to remove President Bola Tinubu will continue at the court on Monday.

Section 26 of the Interpretation Act, 1964 shall apply, since the date of service by post is material.”

It was also confirmed by Dr. Festus Akande, the Director of Information for the Supreme Court, that Atiku’s election challenge was scheduled for hearing on Monday.

The notification was made in response to concerns raised by the House of Representatives regarding the supreme court’s workload.

As of right now, the Supreme Court consists of 11 justices, rather than the 21 necessary by section 230(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

All Progressives Congress candidate Tinubu was proclaimed the victor of the election on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Atiku, who finished second in the race, has filed an appeal with the presidential election tribunal to have the results of the election void.

Nonetheless, the tribunal unanimously affirmed Tinubu’s election victory and rejected the complaints submitted by Atiku and Obi as being without merit.

Then he heard them say that since the operation had been leaked, it should be cancelled. They later claimed that the leaker was inside their workspace. He was taken into custody for two months and only made it out by luck. After two months, he came to my house to tell me everything that had happened to him and how, by God’s grace, he had survived.

Father accused of flogging teacher to death for disciplining his son in Delta

Nnajiofor Nweke, a father suspected of being responsible for the death of a teacher at Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State, has been placed under arrest by the Delta State Police Command.

The regrettable event happened on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, after the suspect’s son was disciplined for allegedly stealing palm wine.

A representative for the Delta State Police Command stated that the suspect’s son, DSP Bright Edafe, and other students pilfered two kegs of palm wine from a nearby store.

After this incident was quickly reported to the school administration, who named the students involved, they implemented a punitive strategy that included physical punishment.

The suspect arrived at the school brandishing a cane and began flogging the teachers after finding out about the disciplinary actions implemented against his child.

During the assault, one of the teachers gave way and passed away.

Edafe wrote, “Parenting gone wrong! evolved into a homicide investigation. On October 18, 2023, the father of a student at Alihame Mixed Secondary School Agbor, Nnajiofor Nweke, whose name is withheld, went to a palm wine shop with other students and is suspected of stealing two kegs of palm wine.

The students were flogged after the issue was brought to the attention of the school administration. With a cane in hand, the suspect arrived at the school in protest and began flogging the teachers.

Interior Minister promises to reduce passport delay

The interior minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has promised to address the problems that Nigerians living abroad face when trying to get passports.

In an effort to lessen the difficulty of obtaining a passport for people living abroad, he announced that more passport desk offices would be opened globally by February 2024.

The Minister talked during his Thursday guest appearance on Arise News.

Tunji-Ojo promised that within the following three weeks, captured Nigerians living abroad would receive their passports.

He mentioned that now that the backlogs in the nation have been cleared, his focus is on people living abroad.

“Canada has only one passport office, which is unacceptable,” stated Tunji-Ojo. While it may not be financially feasible for the government to open passport offices everywhere, we must work with private organisations to make this happen. For example, in the UK, you have to come to London for your passport, wherever you are. Corrupt practises arise when there is an excessive demand for a particular item.

We will have passport front offices all over the world by February of next year, I promise. Additionally, we are putting a lot of effort into making sure that Nigerians who have already been apprehended and living abroad will receive passports. The minister said that using technology would greatly aid in reducing corruption in the nation’s passport administration process.

“Avoiding human contact as much as possible is the best way to prevent corruption,” he stated. In order to stop this and improve the services we provide, we must implement technology. Nigerians should also refrain from using proxies to obtain their passports.

Former SGF Babachir Lawal has criticised President Bola Tinubu for his attempt to stifle press criticism and for keeping Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in detention.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Lawal addressed Felix Morka, the APC spokesman, challenging him on his previous claim that Peter Obi, not Tinubu, emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential contest. Lawal stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had changed since its formation in 2013/2014.

In addition to the APC turning into an Islamic party, the former SFG claims that Nigerians are denied the right to free speech.

The former SGF criticised President Tinubu’s administration for the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission’s threats against journalists, calling them disrespectful and intolerable.

“We imagined the APC would be a national party that would carry along all the different socio-political and religious tendencies of the nation when we founded it way back in 2013/2014,” the speaker stated.

“We took care back then to ensure that the party’s leadership and membership represented all of the nation’s religions and tribes.

“We aimed to create a party that would welcome every Nigerian.” The idea that the National Chairman and Secretary would not come from the same tribe, religion, or geographic area was based on this.

Regretfully, the APC has now changed its name to the Islamic Party of Nigeria. The National Working Committee (NWC) is composed of some members from the South and all Muslims from the North.

“Now that Kadmul Islam is the national chairman and a Muslim is the national secretary, the party just needs to change its name, which might not take too long.

“A Nigeria that benefits all is what we seek.” We envision a Nigeria where everyone is free to follow their goals in peace in the pursuit of prosperity and a good life, and where even sycophants can relate.

“Like you and I are doing now, we want a Nigeria that ensures citizens’ right to free speech. Should Bola Tinubu assert that he opposed Abacha on the grounds of democracy and freedom of expression, it is disgraceful and intolerable for NBC to intimidate reporters while he is in charge.

“It is unacceptable to use political parties as a means of intimidating and harassing people who are voicing their opinions in public,” the CBN governor and the chairman of the EFCC should not be kept in custody for lengthy periods of time without being tried.

“I’m confident that no Nigerian is relishing the sense of shame and embarrassment that permeates our country as a result of the constant disclosures about the identity and status of our “President”; nor is it comforting to know that the majority of Nigerians no longer have access to a daily meal; nor is it comforting that we are unable to attend wedding ceremonies in Imo or Zamfara States because of insecurity.”
